I'll get a post up later tonight, but real quickly, just want to chime in that I'm of the same mind as Kiri here. I personally found Boldren's posts amusing, and am not offended by them OOC.

IC though, I'm trying to use this as a chance for some character development. Mira's a woman in a field that's traditionally masculine, especially in all the stories that she grew up reading. Comments on her looks/attractiveness make her wonder whether she's being judged by her gender. Somebody with a bit better social skills may have picked a better way to articulate that, or at least might have waited until they weren't in front of strangers. (-1 CHA penalty has to show up somewhere other than skill checks, right?)

Uori shakes his head as he replies to Draco. "Worship Aroden? No, no... He was a god of humanity, and gone now. This place must have been dedicated to Aroden long ago, but my people come here for the holy waters." He gestures, indicating the pool in which he was kneeling when you first observed him.

Mira draws the Uori's attention and he watches as she speaks. "My people wear cloaks like that, but it is not mine. Likely it was lost by one of those who perished here recently. Beware, they are restless nearby." He points to the east, his face solemn as he says this.

When Uori points to the east and warns, Wei nods to the gillman and moves a little bit closer to the east, and pulls out the big blade and his shield, watching the tunnel warily. Every so often, though, he'll give the western tunnel a glance, just to be sure he's not missing a possible avenue of visible access.

He'd love to chat more, but going through a third party is making it way too difficult for the basic information to get out, and a set of eyes on the possible routes of the restless dead should be a bit more helpful.

Really wish this guy could understand me better. Seems decent enough. Still... Explore, Report, Cooperate. Gather the story and come back with it.

Captain Havok wrote:

"Could you tell us some more about these holy waters and the tiny city behind you?

Also what do you mean by restless? Surely not undead?" Havok asks Uori, clearly more at ease with the gillman.

Uori nods his head solemnly, "I am afraid so. I only went a short way down the passage and turned back when I saw them. Such a tragedy, what has befallen those wayward souls. My people must submerge ourselves completely at least once a day to stay in good health. This natural spring produces waters that are especially restorative to my kind. Without places like this, we could not travel upon the land."

He turns to regard the miniature city as he speaks about it. "This has been here as long as I have known of these caves. I believe it may have served as some kind of altar for making tribute to Aroden. Beyond that, I don't know much about it."

He considers for a moment, "You folk look as if you can handle yourselves in a fight. If you would agree to deliver the undead gillmen to their eternal rest, I would be willing to lone you the use of my wand to do so."

Uori offers you his wand of shield of faith (CL 6th, 10 charges), if you agree to destroy the undead in the eastern passage.

Uori nods as he hands Jorag the wand. "The casting lasts a while, you may be able to make use of it before you engage. Some of the undead I observed were stripped of their flesh and some were not. You need not worry about infection, but do consider your tactics. Blades are of little use against skeletal undead, try to crush the bone instead. Those who still wear their flesh possess more power as their strength still lingers in the muscle. Use blades to slice and pare the flesh away as stabbing or bludgeoning does little to them."

Uori seems genuinely helpful and his advice is sound. (He is explaining that you want to use bludgeoning damage against skeletons and slashing damage against zombies as they are resistant to damage of other types)

The cave’s damp air becomes increasingly stale as you continue down through the eastern tunnel, the stench of decay growing increasingly evident. Jorag and Kiri mistakenly kick small pebbles down a slope in their attempts to move quietly and you hear the rattling of bone on bone as something responds to the sound ahead.
The passage turns and opens into a small cavern littered with bits of broken glass, rotting pieces of paper, and other unusable detritus.

I'll assume Jorag cast Shield of Faith on Wei Ji and Havok as soon as you smelled the decay and that everyone entered with weapons drawn. Wei Ji gets one action before the Skeletons attack and then can make his round 1 action after they attack.

Two skeletons shamble out of the small cavern toward the party, slashing with their bony claws at Captain Havok, but his armor rebuffs their scrabbling attacks. One of them actually seems to not be targeting Havok at all, but someone behind him, completely unaware of the Tengu that blocks the path.

One of the reasons that Wei wears a board versus just a mace on his one arm is highlighted during this encounter. Given that it was almost as much of a surprise to the skeletons as it was to him, his gut reaction is to whack at the skeleton in front of him with the shield, throwing his strength behind it, then following up with a sideways crack of the bastard sword and a beak-jab.

Shield Bash( Surprise Round Attack): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 171d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Bastard Sword (Surprise Round Attack): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 131d10 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
Beak (Surprise Round Attack): 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (12) - 4 = 81d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

And as soon as the skeletons get done with their flurry, he returns the favor once more, eschewing defensive fighting for an all-out assault. He doesn't anticipate much success with the sword, but it's the weapon that does the most and might be able to overcome the boney bodies...

Shield Bash: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Bastard Sword: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d10 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Bite: 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 41d3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Aside from any clanging and banging he is notably *silent* as he fights.

Wow, that was a lot of whiffin' but... kinda had to. There's no room to really move tactically without triggering an AoO.

Wei, the way you are quoting my posts, you used up a roll of 15 and 20 in the fields for my skeleton attacks. There is no need to use the reply function unless you want to quote a specific bit of text to reply directly. Also, you can't full attack in a surprise round. Only one standard action or one move action. Give me a minute and I'll make sense of it all.

Wei Ji bashes the skeleton in front of him with his shield, and it smashes against the cavern wall, crumbling to a heap of bones before the stealthy Tengu. Only one skeleton slashes at Captain Havok with it's bony claws and then Wei Ji promptly repeats the maneuver, crushing the skeleton to dust as he scores an especially powerful hit with his shield.

The sword and beak would have missed, not that it matters since nothing was left to swing or peck at! ^_~

But the clatter has drawn the attention of the heavier footed undead. They shamble toward you, their clothing hanging in tatters from their rotting fleshy frames. They raise their putrid limbs and slam them down at Captain Havok and Wei Ji. Fortunately, they are even less accurate than the skeletons and the front-liners remain untouched.

Jorag technically goes before the Zombies, but I decided to go ahead and get their attack out of the way so the rest of the party can act. Wei can still 5 ft step if he wants.

Sorry Draco, if I called for initiative rolls and then waited for everyone to roll their own, it would take another day before I can post the order we begin the combat! Also, I need you to put the abbreviated line in your Class/Race/Gender fields on your profile like I mentioned in the recruitment post. =)

Zombies

Captain Havok's roundhouse kicks look powerful enough to knock a living man out in one blow, but these undead with their spongy putrid flesh rebound in a disconcerting way. Still, he hears the distinct crack of rib-cage from the first one.

Unable to find a suitable position, Kiri moves behind Wei Ji and waits for an opening. Boldren fires his ray of frost and hits his target, but he sees no indication that the spell has done anything beyond further chilling already cold flesh.

Mira opens fire on the Zombie in front of Captain Havok and the deafening crack resonates in your eardrums, which now hum uncomfortably if you failed to heed her warning. She punches a hole in the creatures chest cavity and you can indeed see that his ribcage is shattered. But still it stands, raising it's arms for another battering.

Draco boldly moves in, his Elven Curve Blade held high and slips between the Tengu and the cavern wall to a small alcove. But his movement draws a swipe from an undead arm that knocks the breath from his body for a second. (Draco takes 6 damage from the Zombie's Attack of Opportunity) But his resolve holds as he slashes down with the gleaming blade, slicing away a significant chunk of decomposed torso and releasing a terrible stench of decay.

Both Zombies are looking seriously weakened. Over to Wei Ji and Jorag before they attack.

Realized *after the fact that I'd forgotten to roll for damage. Easily fixed, though.

Tne tengu pauses briefly as the last two undead are destroyed, and offers what sounds almost like a prayer for the fallen.

Tien:
"May your spirits find rest and come back in better shape on the next step of your journey."

After, he'll glance up at Mira, then Kiri. "Explore, Report, Cooperate, right?"

His tone is sober as he starts attempting a rather precise and methodical search of the room, taking notes as he goes.

Taking 20 would be acceptable here, but it's always fun when someone hits the DC with a roll. ^_~

Kiri, Havok and Wei Ji quickly spot the body of a male dhampir which lies facedown toward the back of the cavern. A quick search of his corpse reveals a note written by the dhampir that details plans to start an army of undead made from the “fish people” who have been frequenting this cave. It seems the deceased dhampir was a necromancer who used this secluded place to practice his craft, but must have made a mistake and his creations turned on him. He also wears a few interesting baubles, an amulet of natural armor +1 and a pearl of power.

Boldren detects the fresh air of a slight cross breeze as he nears the northeastern corner and moves some debris out of the way to discover a narrow passageway that goes east. He hears the faint sounds of steel ringing on steel and raises a hand for quiet as he listens closely. A familiar woman’s voice echoes from a distance, half-shouting and half-reciting, “As the legendary Gregaro Voth successfully battled the wild beasts in the deepest reaches of the Mwangi Expanse, so shall I defeat you, foul servant of Lamashtu!”

Inwardly, the tengu hopes to heck they can get there in time. Janira Gavix is good people.

"If folks know how to use any of the gear Janira had in her bag, this might be a good time for it. We're reasonably fresh, but I've never fought a minotaur before and it looked kinda beefy."

The tengu will then attempt to move along with some expediency, but will not get in front of Draco or anyone else seeking the lead, while keeping an eye out for traps or the like. He's not being stealthy due to sounds of combat -- halfling vs. minotaur isn't an ideal match-up, to say the least.
