The goblins still don't appear to have noticed you. You can try to move closer, or take your surprise round now.
Nectanebo the Vulture

"Seize the moment!"
Nectanebo opens up with his bow while his skeleton advances.

Simon's missile injures one of the goblins, but doesn't drop it. They spring to their feet with shouts of alarm!

The goblins rush forward and attack the nearest target! Unfortunately for them, it's the skeleton, and they're using piercing weapons. One misses cleanly, but the other manages a significant hit! The skeleton is hit for 7 HP; with its DR, it takes 2 HP.
Party up!

I’m still affected by the negative level, right? We haven’t rested while I was gone?
| DM Carbide |
Correct.
The bloodrager advances and cuts down the last goblin. Out of combat!
The armor you found in the last room turns out to be chainmail +1. The goblins were apparently playing dice; the pot includes a pair of nonmagical silver earrings, 110 silver pieces, 60 gold pieces, and a potion of lesser restoration. A rough tunnel winds away to the northeast and down.
Nectanebo the Vulture
|
Nectanebo takes a closer look at the chainmail, then asks the party, "May I?"
Muunokhoi Korchinovog
|
"I don't know, Nectanebo--that armor will look funny when the skeleton is wearing it," says Muusa with a wide grin. She looks at the group. "Aeilin is still unwell, and Simon is out of spells. I wonder if we should 'hole up', how you say, and sleep here."
She looks at the tunnel. "Or somewhere safer," she adds.
Simon Zoraelius
|
Simon gives a smirking laugh at Mussa as he shrugs agreement to Nectanebo's request. "I don't know ... I think old Bonesy might look quite fetching in some fancy-pants magical armor."
He rifles through the collected gear with the toe of his boot. "Resting is smart," he says, as if he hadn't suggested it multiple times already, and I'd suggest climbing back across that pit. Put it between us and," he nods to the unexplored tunnel, "whatever we don't know is down that way."
He looks over at Kerastes, "Either way, you should take this potion. That plus some rest could undo what those stirges did."
| DM Carbide |
So, resting for the night?
| DM Carbide |
The save won't happen until 24 hours after the negative level was imposed.
ETA: Also too, she made the save already, a couple of weeks ago in the Discussion thread.
Aeilín Ardghail
|
With Muusa, Nect, and Simon suggesting a rest, I think we have a majority. If we do that, are there any kinds of rolls any of us can make to try to boost Aeilín's save against that negative level?
I’d already rolled it, since Simon suggested resting, and I thought it would happen while I was away. Unless Carbide wants another roll.
Kerastes
|
We rest!
Kerastes will take one of the watches, preferably so that he still gets enough rest to regain spells
Nectanebo the Vulture
|
And presumably that's all it takes to heal my Strength damage.
Muunokhoi Korchinovog
|
I had forgotten that damage, Nect!
Muusa agrees with Simon. "Let's put the pit between us and the tunnel...it betters our chances," she says, nodding.
I'll update Muusa's spells and hexes providing we don't have a nocturnal encounter. :D
| DM Carbide |
As far as you can tell, the night passes uneventfully. What now?
Muunokhoi Korchinovog
|
Muunokhoi spends a quiet hour sitting with her weasel, occasionally muttering and pointing to the sky, the earth, and various cardinal directions. Eventually she stands up and smiles.
"I'm ready for the tunnel. No hair today; I'd rather give bad luck to anything we might meet," she chuckles.
Kerastes
|
Kerastes has spend an hour in silence, looking at his iron key amulet.
"Let's investigate the tunnel" he says while moving slowly towards it.
| DM Carbide |
On returning, you find that the goblin bodies have disappeared, along with any of their gear that you didn't take. From that room the tunnel winds and ascends through numerous switchbacks, eventually opening out into a much larger chamber. Most of the room appears to be a natural cave, although some work has been done to finish it--thick, square columns support the low ceiling, and the floor is partially paved.
And I have to go do some actual work, so the rest of the room description will have to wait.
Simon Zoraelius
|
Simon wakes up as he does every day ... in a foul, cloud-headed mood. It's become a welcome reprieve when he spends the first hour of the day sitting by himself, petting the fiery-pelted cat.
After about an hour, he walks back over by himself, still yawning. He scratches at his always-mussed hair, "Oh, look ... trail tack for breakfast. Again." Then he looks over at Muusa with a look of confusion. "Wait ... what? Your hair is right there."
Without much more said, he readies for another day. The prospect of more dungeon-delving does brighten his disposition a bit.
Refreshed and ready to rumble. :)
Muunokhoi Korchinovog
|
"I could show you the power of my misfortune curse, Simon, but you wouldn't like it," says Muusa with a grin. 'I don't swear loyalty to any spirits, so I can choose different ones each day. I like my hair to be long, but I think curses are better around here."
She puts her weasel in its usual carrying pocket and it sticks its beady-eyed face out, whiskers twitching.
Nectanebo the Vulture
|
The others find Nectanebo already up and wearing the enchanted chainmail when they finally awake. He is playing a complicated-looking card game with an exceptional-looking deck of cards...and strangely, it seems that he is trying to play against his pearly orb and his coat, both nestled against walls as he plays their hands for them. Stranger still, though, is the fact that he sometimes seems genuinely surprised by his 'opponents'' actions. At one point he gently but firmly accuses the orb of cheating. Out of the corner of your eye, it seems to be winking.
| DM Carbide |
Now that I have more time....
There's what seems to be an improvised campsite further in--tattered furs, a few small and foul-looking bedrolls, sacks of food, and battered old crates and casks. No one seems to be occupying it at the time, though.
As you're preparing to advance cautiously into the chamber, the occupants make themselves known. Nectanebo is the only one who has any inkling of their presence, though. A quartet of goblins rushes into view; three are typical, while the fourth wears a chain shirt and carries a longspear that's rather taller than she is.

Nectanebo the Vulture

Being at the rear, Nectanebo has the time to actually listen to what's ahead of him, so he is hardly surprised when he hears stirring up ahead that is decidedly at odds with the steady drumbeat of Kerastes' footsteps.
Oh, how thoughtless of them - they left their midden right at the entrance, He thinks as some unseen wind ruffles his coat. Suddenly, a tangle of old bones from their refuse heap organizes itself into a decidedly unnatural facsimile of a coherent skeleton, and lunges at the nearest goblin.

The goblin with the spear steps a little closer and chitters out the words of a spell. An intense wave of fire washes out over Kerastes and the skeleton for 10 HP; DC 12 Reflex save for half damage.
Everyone except Kerastes can act!
| DM Carbide |
A short life, but a merry one. If you hadn't done that, she probably wouldn't have used that spell right away, with only one target in reach. Kerastes might not be very happy about it at the moment, but at least Aeilin and company are still unhurt.
Kerastes

Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
"Don't worry, it looks worse than it is!" Kerastes says when he emerges from the flames.

Muusa winks at the tall goblin. Misfortune Hex, DC 14 Will save. She moves up a bit, but not so far that Aeilin cannot take a good swipe at the goblins.
"Bad luck to you!" she calls gleefully to the goblin.
