Serah Farron
|
Serah Farron attempts to aid in searching the carriage for clues, but apparently her attention is focused on her large falcata stained with zombie blood so she'll wipe it off clean.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6
She will try to assist the ranger regarding the weather in the next day or two. (Will also be rolling a Knowledge Nature check whether it's applicable to the situation or not.)
Survival Regarding Weather: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
Knowledge Nature: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18

It would seem that this man was frozen solid by some sort of breath weapon, something you've never heard of any fey having. Additionally, after being frozen alive, he was also hacked at likely by the blades of the bandits who stripped off the armor and weapons from all of the other bodies.
As far as the weather goes, well, it's supposed to be summer, but clearly it has been snowing in the border woods, but it looks like it will be clear enough for the weather not to hamper your movement.
The bandits seem to have left behind some broken chests and boxes strewn across the ground which contain three courtier’s outfits.
Ceobryrn
|
Ceobryrn let's the others know "They may have something that can breath cold on there side!" befor checking out the other carriage on its side, then helps bury the dead.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Once everything is done, the ranger suggest "Let's follow the tracks south, should be easy enough with all the men and horses. Unless anyone has a better idea?"
Aponyaye Msomi
|
"That is a fine plan, Ceobryrn! Let's be on our way if there is nothing else here."
Lars Boulderstep
|
Lars after reciting finished the litany for the dead, shoulders his pack, his face grim.
"Let's us leave. A long journey apparently awaits us."
| GM Æbsolutæxistance |
While finding nothing of note in the carriage that is on it's side, Ceobryrn does notice that it appears the bandits missed something when going through the carriage that they placed the zombies in, and he happens to find a small jewelry box under the seat of the upright carriage. The Jewelry box contains a signet ring, a pair of earrings worth 25 gp, a set of pearl-inlaid bracelets worth 90 gp, assorted gold and silver necklaces worth a total of 75 gp, and one sapphire pendant worth 50 gp.
Knowledge Nobility to notice whose signet ring this is.
Deciding that there is little else to do here, the party then moves on, following the tracks. Should anyone not be wearing cold weather gear or under the effects of Endure Elements, please make a fortitude saving throw now, you have time to use a wand on anyone who may need it before you would need to make the save.
As it enters the full expanse of the Border Wood, the trail passes through a small clearing among the taller trees before continuing uphill and out of sight. A large chest lies half-buried in the snow, apparently dropped or discarded by those who hastily passed this way.
Sterk Birgunsen the Wordy
|
Sterk uses his rope to tie it up around the chest, with care, and then, from a safe distance, drag the chest towards and open area.
If he is able to drag it without setting up a trap he will signal the rest to stand away, while he cautiously tries to open it.
| GM Æbsolutæxistance |
As Sterk approaches the chest to tie his rope around it, he notices that in the snow there was a tripwire, and he notices this with his foot as he trips the trip wire, causing a spiked log to come flying at the man.
Spiked Log: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Sterk takes 11 damage, no one else is hit by the log.

"My friend! Be careful!"
Aponyaye casts a spell and his pet dino runs up to snuggle against the Ulfen.

Sterk Birgunsen the Wordy

Sterk don't much like Aponyaye making his "magic" on him. But after being cured he looks at the Mwangi, and makes a gesture that can be thought as a smile, with some imagination.
"Thank you"
Then he proceeds to open the chest.
| GM Æbsolutæxistance |
Underneath the chest is a hidden cache, the cache contains what would seem to be the majority of the weapons and armor stripped from Lady Argentea’s guards, including five sets of leather armor, three sets of studded leather armor, a masterwork chain shirt, two light wooden shields, seven longswords, two spears, a masterwork dagger, and three light crossbows with a total of 25 bolts.
Aponyaye Msomi
|
Aponyaye will take one of the crossbows and the bolts but leaves the rest of the loot the party.
"I can hold on to your wand if you like. I have training in those wands."
It's ok. Spells are free; I prepared them to use them. And I get +2 instead of +1.
Ceobryrn
|
Earlier before leaving the ambush sight, Ceobryrn shows the signet ring to the others to see if anyone recognizes it. "The lady will undoubtably what this stuff back, we'll keep it safe for her. Brom, it wouldn't hurt to see if any of it is useful magic though."
At the trapped chest, the ranger starts to suggest that it is a trap, but doesn't have a chance to say anything before Sterk finds it, and the weapon stash. " I think you earned the the right to wear the chain shirt. From the zombies and this it's obviousness the bandits expected to be followed. We should expect more such things even an ambush.". If no one else clames the master work dagger, Ceobryrn will.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 +2 for human
surival tracking: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 +2 for human
(gm. If the bandits are mostly human, should it start adding the +2 in, or keep it as an option?)
Aponyaye Msomi
|
Aponyaye will detect magic on the loot they have found so far and also in the area near the trap.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11
Aponyaye Msomi
|
"Let us continue on then! Shall we?" Aponyaye will let one of the others take the lead, pulling his stretcher along through the snow with his dinosaur in tow.
Lars Boulderstep
|
Continue On. Will take a crossbow and 25 bolts
Aponyaye Msomi
|
Lars: can we split the bolts? Aponyaye doesn't have any and he took one of the light crossbows as well. You can take 15, I'll take 10. I don't anticipate using it much except as a last resort.
Lars Boulderstep
|
Sure. I don't anticipate using it much though. I'll take whatever is remaining.
Lars looking up to see the party taking what they need.
"Seems like whatever these creatures want, the guards equipment is not what they want. Curious these bandits are."
| GM Æbsolutæxistance |
The snow becomes increasingly deep in this part of the forest, where a windswept gully carves a path through a tree-covered ridge. A soft cascade of snow falls from an overhead branch, hissing softly as it strikes the ground.
This encounter lacks an actual map, so I did the best I could with what I could find, sorry if the white on top of it bugs you. Map has been updated, and I'm going to put it in the description now.
Also, note: Because of the deep snowdrifts in the gully, entering a snow-covered square requires 4 squares of movement. The gully is the white space
Ceobryrn
|
Ceobryrn pauses to a moment to check the tracks.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 +2 vs human
survival tracks: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 +2 vs human
( do the tracks lead down into the gully? Can we see into the gully?)
Corsario
|
Sterk put his snowshoes on and ties himself with rope on the waist. He gives the rope to Ceobryrn and, using his new javelin as a prodding pole, starts to move into the ravine, cautiously, probing the snow in front and at the sides for traps or pits.
In case it applies Survival Roll: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Natural 20! Yoohoo! With the snow shoes entering a square cost should be 3 or even 2 1/2 squares of movement. Moved Sterk on Roll20
Lars Boulderstep
|
Lars will put on snowshoes and follow as well.
Aponyaye Msomi
|
Aponyaye grabs some of the vials from his stretcher and stuffs them in his coat pockets before slogging through the snow after his companions.
Ceobryrn
|
Shaking his head, Ceobryrn keeps hold of the rope Sterk handed him as he follows the group into the gully. The ranger keeps looking round thinking this would be a great ambush spot.
perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 +2vs human

Lars looks around him while grumbling about snow and making a slow dwarf even slower
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Aponyaye Msomi

Aponyaye is more concerned with not tripping and falling in the snow. He is unfamiliar with this terrain.
