You have been summoned to the Pathfinder lodge in Almas, capital city of Andoran. Venture-Captain Brackett, a middle-aged swordsman both fastidious and professional in his duties, welcomes you in his office. Brackett appears to be extremely busy: he obviously has little time for foolish questions and dislikes repeating himself. With a thump, the Venture-Captain sets a rounded granite stone on his desk. The stone is polished smooth and veined with shallow carvings reminiscent of constellations.
“This is a lorestone, from the depths of the Verduran Forest. It’s rumored to hold all of the secrets of the druids of that ancient wood. Just over two years ago, a group of Pathfinders recovered this stone for us. We’re not much closer to cracking its secrets than we were on the day those agents put it into our hands, but we have gleaned one interesting bit of knowledge. The lorestone tells of a lengthy ritual using an artifact called the Atavistic Splinter, a piece of charred bark touched by Gozreh himself. The ritual transforms humanoids into bestial creatures with preternatural resilience. We could use something with this kind of power for the upcoming Ruby Phoenix Tournament in Goka, so we need you to recover the Atavistic Splinter for us.
We believe the artifact is near the gnome town of Wispil, deep in the Verduran Forest. A Pathfinder operative there—a gnome herbalist named Falbin—was investigating increased lycanthrope activity south of Wispil. Falbin discovered that a sinister cabal of druids in a compound called Briar Henge is using the Atavistic Splinter to perform the ritual, probably to drive out the local loggers, but he couldn’t recover the Atavistic Splinter from the druids by himself. Go to Wispil and contact Falbin there. He will provide you with directions to Briar Henge and recent intelligence regarding the situation around Wispil. Then use this information to infiltrate Briar Henge and acquire the Atavistic Splinter. Your transportation to Wispil has been arranged, you're leaving within the hour. Any questions?” he concludes with a sigh, anticipating your inquisitive nature.
You can start by describing your character, then aasking the VC any questions you might have. If you have ranks in Knowledge (History) and/or Knowledge (Nature), you may make those checks (two separate rolls, one for each skill) that represent stories you've heard or things you already know that might be helpful to prepare for your mission.

Cha-Ka is a young Tengu, standing about 4'5" in height. His clothes look like he woke up some time in the middle of the night and decided to go the desert. And he didn't bother to turn on the lights as he got dressed. Around his head is what appears to be a scarf just recently, and rather poorly, dyed a streaky off-black. The color clashes with his glossy black feathers, which are in turn a stark contrast from the light sandy color of the rest of his clothes. On his back is strapped a long, curved blade.
His eyes light up when he sees the stone artifact. He begins rummaging through his various pouches and packs, eventually pulling out some paper and charcoal. Completely oblivious to potential social repercussions, he moves towards the sphere and starts attempting to make a charcoal rubbing of the engravings.
Still with his eyes fixated on his goal, he addresses Brackett. "What kind of supplies will we have access to in Wispil? I'm thinking if there's lycanthropes we might want to pick up some silver weapons or weapon blanch."

Ardisen is late in his seventeenth year, a tall young man with a slender jawline. He typically wears his dark brown hair in a modern style designed to draw attention to his handsome face. His appearance is no accident, as he goes to great pains to make the most of his pale Chelaxian complexion. Ardisen is garbed in tailored and well fitted travelling attire, but it seems to have seen very little actual exploration. The only clear sign of Ardisens magical talent are the spellbook poking out of his backpack and the viper familiar that often weaves absent-mindedly around his arms and shoulders. A light crossbow and sheathed dagger appear to be the enchanters only weapons, but a wand slipped through his belt and a strange wooden tube slung over his back may suggest otherwise. A well polished and clearly newly acquired wayfinder hangs from the Chelaxians belt.
Ardisen listened intently to the Venture-Captains instructions, smiling knowingly at a few of the Pathfinders he'd already recognised from their Confirmation together. While he wasn't too keen on being in Andoran, a country devoted to multiple ideals that stood against those of his homeland, he welcomed the new assignment. His journey here had been fairly uneventful, the time only broken up by his study of a book he'd found on route, detailing the life and culture of goblin tribes (written by some lunatic who'd likely ended up eaten by the very creatures he'd been researching).
Focusing his train of thought, he felt the task sounded simple enough and he could read enough into his superior to understand that a string of queries was only likley to frustrate the man. Instead he nodded along and absorbed the information, his eyes scanning across the Pathfinders he was unfamiliar with. Waiting for the man to finish he stepped forward and nodded, accepting the assignment without further query. Hoping the others would take the hint he turned to face them, his trademark smile ever present.
"Sounds like a relatively simple task. For those of you I'm unfamiliar with, allow me to introduce myself, I am Ardisen Greymore."
Ardisen offers his associates a perfectly executed courtly bow, trying desperately to maintain his composure as Cha-Ka meddles with the lorestone and quizzes the Venture-Captain.
"I'm looking forward to working with you all, some of you for the first time. Perhaps we could take our leave of our clearly busy superior and talk further outside?" The enchanters request is clearly directed at Cha-Ka, suggesting that the tengu let the Venture Captain be.

A touch over six feet tall, with white hair and fair skin, Castien Galondiir is not an unimpressive figure. Curiously, his strong arms and lithe build would lead you to believe that he is a fighter of some sort - using a bow, primarily, if the beautiful piece of craftsmanship across his back is any indication - but he wears no armor. He also carries a finely made longsword at his side, but it has seen noticeably less use.
Grateful for the Venture-Captain's gruff demeanor and swift dismissal, Castien breathes a sigh of relief and begins readying himself to join the others in the hall.

The doors to the room where the Venture captain was located were opened and the scent of a musky tiger scent hung heavy around him as he made his entrance. Dressed in a dark green cloak with the hood drawn over his features and the rim just hanging above his eyes. From his nose down that part of his face was covered in a scarf and all one could see was the dark eyes taking in those present in the room. On his back there was a composite longbow that had seen it's fair share of adventures and on his side a long sword placed in a scabbard. The rest of his attire consisted of a well fitting leather armor.
Following him was a massive white tiger with blue eyes. The soft padding of claws could be heard as the beast made it's way into the office and stopping next to the hunter he was following. Letting go of a bored yawn when the Venture Captain was speaking but letting go of a soft throaty purr when the hunter let his hand rest on it's hand and scratching his head.
Letting his eyes glance over the party present and recognizing Cha-Ka and Ardissen a smile caressed his lips under the scarf before he turned his attention to the venture captain. There was nothing much to say for now, but it was more important to ensure their supplies were in order and to make sure that they had the means to defeat lycanthropes if needed be. Adressing the Venture Captian "Sir, could you let us know where our transportation is awaiting us so those of us who want to can do some quick shopping before making our way towards Wispil and meeting Falbin there? Also, can you inform us how we can recognize him so we know we are talking to the right person?"

![]() |

"Recognize him? He's a gnome, that should be enough. Oh, and he likes cultivating all manners of things. As for supplies in Wispil, I'm afraid you'll have more trouble finding what you want there rather than here, so you'd better stock up in Almas while you still can."

Castien, realizing that their assignment might involve battling fey as well, suggests, "You m-may want t-t-to have c-c-cold iron, as w-well. The d-druids m-may have f-f-fey allies."

![]() |

Ardisen stopped at the door, giving the other Pathfinders chance to ask their questions despite his hopes to the contrary. The talk of druids and fey made him uneasy, despite how well he hid it. He didn't know much about the nature lovers or their allies and last time he'd encountered something he knew nothing about, he'd watched a slip* ally brutally cut down.
"I'll be outside."
The enchanter gave a curt nod to Brackett.
"You can count on us, sir."
*Slip is pejorative Chelaxian name for halflings.

Marodais stands there like his own life-sized graveyard statue. He is a dwarf clad in black studded leather with gleaming studs which are quickly revealed to be made only of brass. Underneath he seems to wear a grey linen vestment of almost the same hue as his grey, leathery skin.
A jackal-head wooden mask is dangling loosely in front of his chest. Another jackal-head is displayed on the end of a wooden scepter that is fixed to the left side of his belt. On the right side he carries, not drawn and secured against accidents with an additional leather strap, a flail with an angular head.
There is a certain acrid smell about him, reminding of chemicals used to preserve specimens, which a more scholarly oriented pathfinder might recognize. Often the smell is - wrongly - assumed to come from his oiled beard, into which wodden bands are woven. Later, most people come to realise that the origin might just be Marodais' skin. It is quite possible that a few of the present people were relieved when the musky, but much more natural tiger smell invaded the room together with its master.
Calmly and composed, Marodais takes in the various displays of impatience, either leading to conversation with the venture-captain or away from it. The air is too cold and too humid in this country, and everyone seems to know more than him about this mission. First he faces only the venture-captain but soon turns to face the speakers that impart such knowledge as to specific metals being suitable for combatting specific foes.
He is perfectly happy with letting the other, obviously much more experienced people in this group speak, and restrict himself to listening.

Suin Ko stood there and listened intently to the Venture-Captain's words on the matter, nodding his head towards Castien as the man expressed the fact they may require silver weaponry. The man was wearing a hood so that, despite the inherent rudeness of the act, many people walking the street could not see his face except for the glowing dark blue of his eyes.. He was dressed in long robes of deep red trimmed with gold, and an amulet of Sarenrae hung proudly from his neck. Whatever armor he wore wasn't visible immediately, hiding underneath the clothing. For weaponry, a scimitar rested on his right hip while a heavy mace was on the left; both of them having the symbol of the Dawnflower engraved on the butt of both weapons.
Bowing his head towards the Venture-Captain, he went to speak, and when he did so he had a clearly Osiriani accent. "We shall not disappoint you, Venture-Captain." Suin Ko didn't move to leave just yet however, deciding that it was more prudent to wait to see if the white haired man and the man in a green cloak had any other pertinent questions for the Venture-Captain.

![]() |

Actually, I was the one suggesting silver. Castien suggested cold iron.
Cha-Ka gives a soft caww of approval at his rubbing, pausing briefly to admire both his work and the intricacies of the beautiful artifact.
"Right then! Off to the market and then off to Wispil."
Half-way to the door, he turns abruptly around. "Errr, actually. Where did you say we were meeting our transportation again?"

He would wait with stepping out of the office till the Venture Captain told them where they would meet. Once that information was given he would go to look for a few items on his to shop list.

Not sure what the prices will be so feel free to provide me feedback if the price is to high :)

My bad! Sorry about that Cha-Ka.
As the lot went shopping throughout the city, Suin Ko would cough and rub the back of his neck slightly before speaking. "I'm afraid I do not have enough coin to get both a silver scimitar and a cold iron one. Since we know for certain from the Venture-Captain's report that there was increased lycanthrope activity I'm going to grab myself a silver weapon."
Silver Scimitar - 35 gp
Total - 35 gp
4 Gold, 5 silver remaining.

Aiva was struggling to concentrate on what the venture captain was saying, she was too busy trying to acclimatise to the strange group of people around her. From what they were saying they seemed friendly enough, but there were a number of things that had her feeling distinctly on edge; There was the strange, chemical smell that she found herself unable to acclimatise to, the Tengu with appalling dress sense, not to mention the terrifying white tiger with a piercing blue gaze, she felt like it was watching her every time she looked away. Yes, they were certainly an odd group, but what had she been expecting? The pathfinder society employed all sorts, she had to trust their judgment.
Aiva herself is a slightly taller then average, slender, tanned, girl of seventeen. She has thick chestnut hair that falls to her broad Varisian hips and deep brown eyes that are filled with a sczarni mischief. She obviously takes pride her appearance, her attire is fashionable, neat and well cared for despite being somewhat cheap.
When she eventually zones back into the conversation, she realises that people are leaving to go shopping, to buy- silver? Oh God. Lycanthropes. Aiva wished she had paid more attention, or at least had a chance to introduce herself to the Captain, she had so many questions, but was afraid to ask, incase he had already answered them. The last thing she needed was the Captain to think she was stupid, so instead she gave him a broad smile and a quick nod, before following the others out of the office.
Silver crossbow bolts (10) - 3 gp
10 days of trail rations - 5 gp

Some kind of response is in order, apparently... Marodais manages "I'll do my best to suceed, sir!" or something ... he doesn't even remember half a minute later.
After getting the piece of Information about the departure location, Marodais goes along with the others without interacting too much. He ambles around the markets, looking at this and that, trying out some silver things, weighing them in his hand... in the full knowledge that he can afford none. Maybe the others exaggerate with this silver business.

Regarding Silver blanch and reduced damage: I think you don't have the damage penalty, but be aware that it only lasts for the first hit.
With your last questions answered, you quickly leave the grounds of the Almas Pathfinder Lodge to shop for silver weapons of all sorts. You then catch your coach leading you to Wispil, where your urgent mission awaits.
Wispil is a bustling town built on a small scale—although humans and elves walk the streets, most buildings are built to accommodate the gnomes who live and work in Wispil. The scent of fresh-cut lumber wafts through the town. Falbin’s home is not difficult to find. It is situated on the south edge of the town, with a large garden spreading out behind it. Most of the garden is obscured by high growth, but the sound of a violent argument carries into the street. Although it is not yet dark, firelight glimmers from within the garden walls.
As you arrive at Falbin's home, your attention is immediately drawn to the fires in the gnome's garden, that have apparently been lit by three hardy-looking men who are about to leave. A gnome corresponding to Fabin's description lies unconscious in the northern part of the garden, next to a shaggy scarecrow. The three men spot you and draw their silver swords immediately with the clear intent to get rid of witnesses.

Sorry to be a killjoy, but you can't charge (full-round action) and draw your weapon (move action) at the same time unless you have a base attack bonus of +1 or more. Cha-Ka can do it (BAB +1), but Suin Ko can't (BAB +0). Suin Ko, your action would be draw and move to melee. As a side note, if you roll a threat you roll the confirmation roll in the same post unless it's too late to edit when you realize, in which case you'd make a new post. Lastly, you can only charge in a straight, unimpeded line Tenaka. Since your tiger was behind you at the start, he can't have charged. Waylander must take a double move to get there. Disregarding both Waylander and Suin Ko's attacks.
About the goodberries, you roll for the number you get when you cast the spell. Unless it's your round's action, you'll have to wait until you roll that.
Cha-Ka charges at one of the brigands, almost felling him in one expert blow. Suin Ko tries to imitate him, but the dervish is not as experienced and has trouble drawing his blade from his sheath as he moves to strike the third man, thus is unable to attack him just yet. Tenaka's arrow flies, but falls short, whereas the hunter's tiger springs forth, ready to attack!

Marodais quickly scans the confusing battlefield that he expected to be a peaceful garden. His first instinct is to race to the help of the gnome - if indeed anything can still be done for him. He trusts the battle-hardened silver-swinging veterans of his group to deal with the ruffians and dashes, as fast as he can, towards the prone gnome, desperately trying to catch some hint as to his current condition.
He manages to call out: "I'll tend to Falbin!"
I wanted Marodais to run at x4 speed towards the gnome. Do I assume correctly, that the fence around the gnome cannot be overcome easily while running? However, it seems that running has to be also done in a straight line. There is no reference to how fast one can run in a non-straight line, so... I assume one can't? In that case, instead of running, he is going to "hustle" at x2 speed towards the poor gnome. If possible, I'd like to make a check to find out about his condition, so if he needs to be stabilized, healed, etc. I don't know if that is a perception check, a heal check, or neither because impossible. I'll just roll both and let the GM decide ;)

Hoping the others will assist him, Ardisen pulls his waterskin from his backpack and begins to move towards the nearest fire, his progress hindered by his heavy backpack. Worried the others may not have heard him before he shouts out again.

I'll be going to bed now. In order to not slow things down, I'll state that marodais is going to continue double-moving towards the square just below Falbin if nothing unexpected happens to the area in between in the meantime. Ardisen breathes a sigh of relief as the eye catching Varisian woman moves past him pulling her waterskin free. Almost forgot to spread fire after Aiva acted. Done! As for water/tools needed, you may know that spreading reduced amounts of water may actually help spreading the fire, whereas trying to "choke" the fire with the use of a blanket or similar piece of cloth might be better. Unless you have access to large quantities of water of course. ;)
Ardisen: You'd need to move next to a square that's burning, and use an appropriate standard action (for example, pouring water). No roll needed. Consider that the contents of one waterskin can douse one square's "worth" of fire.
Tenaka: Could you specify who attacks along with the roll (for example: "Attack (Waylander): 1d20+X" etc.) for next time, please? It would be easier to read and understand.
Suin Ko: please remember that using the Diplomacy skill takes one full minute. Thus it isn't usable in combat. Would you choose another action instead?
Tenaka, Waylander and Cha-Ka all endeavor towards taking the thugs down, but none of their blow reach their target...

Marodais said earlier that he would continue moving towards the fallen gnome, attempting to determine his state.
Seeing the flames continue to burn and the so far limited success of his companions, Cha-Ka calls out again, "If you need it, I have a waterskin and blanket in my bag!"
Not really sure if the free action to drop applies to backpacks, but if someone heads towards him, he will drop it for them. Or take a move action to do it if necessary, but then you'd have to wait until next round.

Castien fires two more arrows at the most distant man.
Full-round action: Attack northern-most firestarter
Attack (Composite Longbow, Rapid Fire): 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 6 - 2 = 9
Damage (Composite Longbow (+2 Str)): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Attack (Composite Longbow, Rapid Fire): 1d20 + 6 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 6 - 2 = 15
Damage (Composite Longbow (+2 Str)): 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10

I thought it said one minute of continuous interaction, wouldn't it still be possible unless the bandit cut off contact and attacked then?

Back awake and ready to change course!
Marodais sees the injured Cha-Ka step back towards him and quickly changes his mind. He takes a few steps towards Cha-Ka's side to avoid startling him.
5' step NE
Then he holds out his left Hand and touches Cha-Ka with it, touching with his right hand at the same time the jackal-head scepter on his left side. He briefly closes his eyes, mutters a few words in Ancient Osiriani - "Nahur Anubishem, shelaf na raban takim!"
Spontaneously casting CLW instead of the prepared "Bane"
cure light wounds: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 = 9
He hopes this will be enough and continues, now walking, his way towards the fallen gnome. In the corner of his eye he notices the growing flames with equally growing unease... but securing the contact must come first!

Cha-Ka nods to Marodais. "شكرا لك، يا صديقي. هو محل تقدير مساعدتكم بكثير"
Sorry, I don't know what language you were using for Ancient Osiriani. But Arabic seemed appropriate (yay Google translate)
Also, there seem to be a lot of us Osirion faction in this group.

Just to clarify Ardisens actions. 5 ft step up to fire, douse square next to he and Aiva as a standard action and pull off his cloak as a move action.
"These fires are getting out of hand, we need help!"
