Messengers found you across Absalom before sunrise and summoned you to the Grand Lodge on orders from Venture-Captain Drandle Dreng. His milky, half-closed eyes, normally offering a bearing of regal decrepitude, instead looked sour as he apologized for the early hours and introduced a thick man bearing the scars of many horrific burns seated in a chair in Dreng’s office, his feat soaking in a small metal bucket of steaming water. Behind him stand two enormous, heavily armored half-orcs, their arms crossed over their massive chests and all four of their eyes constantly scanning the room for danger. "Pathfinders, this is Grandmaster Torch," Dreng muttered sleepily. "He’s an ... associate of the Society. We owe him a favor after that business in Sedeq, and it seems he’s looking to collect."

"You wound me, my lord," said Grandmaster Torch, leaving Dreng chuckling softly to himself in the background. "I come in the interest of the common good. You see, my good friend and occasional business associate, Nuar Spiritskin, is missing. You may know him better as the Minotaur Prince of Absalom, the head of the Taurean Embassy and something of a famous foreign dignitary, what with his assertions that he speaks for all Minotaurs everywhere. A collection of papers recently entered my possession that spoke of a grand maze beneath the city; naturally, my first instinct was to discuss the matter with Nuar. He seemed as intrigued as I and after I elicited his help, he set out at once for the maze. It has been several days, more than enough time for a minotaur to solve a maze, and I grow worried for my bovine chum."

"Clearly, I cannot take this matter to the guard. Poor Nuar would be scandalized if word got around that he couldn’t solve a simple maze. I can provide you with directions to this maze, called Delirium’s Tangle, if you promise to return Nuar quietly to his home. I’m even willing to let your organization keep the artifact I believe lies in the maze’s center. Some ancient, elven hourglass — my notes aren’t specific as to what it does. Just ensure the Prince’s safety."

Dreng looks incredulous, but solemnly nods. "Nuar is a useful ally to the Society and a lost labyrinth below Absalom herself is too convenient to pass up. Take an hour to prepare and then head out. And be thorough; no telling what you’ll find down there."

Grandmaster Torch has cross paths with the Pathfinder Society a number of times. The most recent one involving acquisition of some artifacts required certain favours from him.

You sense that Grandmaster Torch is not being completely honest, especially with regards to the involvement of Nuar, the Minotaur Prince. Also, he does not seem like the sort who would so readily give up an artifact.

Eadric stares, bleary-eyed at Grandmaster Torch throughout the briefing, and aside from an occasional yawn does little else. When the briefing is finished, Eadric gives Venture-Captain Dreng a tired salute and says "No worries, Sir. We'll find the dude in no time!" Blinking away his tiredness, Eadric shuffles after Luurg "Wait up Bro, I kn..." His sentence is cut short by another yawn in response to one from Luurg "Dude, stop yawning. You're making me do it..." he says as he leaves the room.

I'm sure we'll find Mister Spiritskin very soon and we'll all become great friends!"

"Hey Bee! Not as wel..." Eadric begins to reply to Begrilda, before she changes the subject How can she be so... so bouncy this early in the morning? "Friends... yeah, totally! I'm sure things'll go better than last time."

Eadric looks at Mariana with surprise "How can you love mazes?. They're full of all those gnarly squiggles! I mean, Sis, they're soo confusing." He says while leaning on the door frame which, given his tiredness, is probably just an attempt to stay vertical.

He looks at Grandmaster Torch with a little bit of discontent. The society works with the likes of him now? However, after hearing about the maze, Kitt's eyes opens up with a hint of excitement. "Mazes huh, those things are designed meticulously and are magnificently engineering! Any of you have a torch? It could get dark down there!"

My notes detail how to reach it although they are needlessly convoluted. Beyond that, I couldn’t possibly tell you how deep, or even its surface relation. You will just have to find out."

Grandmaster Torch frowns as he replies. "The notes mention a large hourglass of elven design. I believe this may be Izryen’s Hourglass, an artifact left behind when the elves first fled Golarion. It appears often in elven astrological writings, and sounds like a complicated timepiece." Torch pauses briefly, before adding, "Should the Pathfinder Society have no interest, I’d love to add it to my own collection.”

Dreng sits up suddenly, clearly awake and quickly responds, "Oh, oh, I am sure there would be interests among my associates to look at it in detail." Torch merely snorts in reply.

Let's go minotaur hunting then!

Dreng bids you farewell as you take your leave, while Grandmaster Torch stares at you, expressionless, body all tense. Following the convoluted directions from Torch's notes, you find a sewer entrance near the abandoned gallery. After about an hour of searching, you eventually find the secret door hidden cleverly among the bricks and mortar along the walls of a cul de sac. The door opens into a narrow man-made ancient tunnel which gradually descends over an hour of travel before eventually joining into a natural tunnel.

The tunnels and caverns is in complete darkness so let me know what your light sources are and carried by whom,

The tunnel shortly opens up into a large series of natural caverns, which opens up to new tunnel branches which twist and turn, some which join back to other tunnels and others that seemingly dead-ends unexpectedly. You spend a frustrating few hours navigating through the natural maze before getting some sense of direction.

Survival DC15:
You notice the tracks of bizarre medium-sized humanoid footprints from time to time and signs of large insects.

Eventually, the tunnel you are in opens into a cavern that opens from the bottleneck into a large, smooth cavern of striated blue stone and pale, sandy floors. The walls glisten with moisture, and a small pool sits on the western side of the chamber. All across the area, thick carpets of fungus blanket the stones.

Luurg walks along, yawning frequently until the sun starts to come up as they hunt for the secret door in the wall "Oh, look dare. Dis it?" He heads off down, down, down he goes at the front with 'Bro'. He walks along with his leafy spear at the ready, not needing such things as light sources. The pad pad pad of his bare feet making little sound for such a big individual.

After a while of moving through the twists and turns, and a few head scratches and belly rubs from the rotund Orc, he finally pulls out his Wayfinder to help get his bearings. "Oh, dare we go, dis way we go!"

He stops once the cavern opens up and holds out his green arms to signal stop. He looks down to the ground and nods, as he takes a bite out of yet another orange fruit. "Sorry, missed breakfast, Luurg don't miss meals, get cranky. You no like cranky Luurg heh." He chortles softly.

"Oh! Ya, see deez here prints? Big beetle buggies and someting people sized. Not seen no mini-tar prints yet. Dey got hooves right? Careful dey could be anywheres!" He spies the fungus and tries to see what it is. "Hrm what's deez shrooms? Shrooms is like fruits but from under ground plants!"

Mariana casts light on her inkpen as the group enters the underground complex. As they navigate the caverns, she attempts to take notes.

"Was that left back there closer to 60 or 75 degrees, do you think?"

When Luurg points out the footprints, she seems skeptical, "What people would be down here?"

Kitt sticks close to Mariana for light. Looking like an excited puppy,Wowee Terra, isn't it exciting? An underground maze.

Following her lead as well, he cast Mage Armor using his wand on Terra and offers anyone else if they need it.

"Well, if we want to get technical about it." Kitt removes some measuring tools from his gear and starts to draw some lines in the ground. "73.5 degrees to the dot."

"Terra, you're a perceptive dog right, why don't you take the lead?"

"That Torch dude... I don't trust him! He, like, totally lied about how Naur ended up down here. Don't think he'll wanna let us keep the hourglass thing either." Eadric shakes his head "Nope, that dude is totally up to somethin'!" He stops to notice Kitt drawing on the floor "Dude! Can you do that? Isn't it, like, vandalism or something?"

Eadric whips out a shiny new lantern as the tunnels open up "Woah! This place is awesome! I thought it was all gonna be like, square and stuff, but it's totally natural." he steps cautiously into the cavern, following Terra and keeping an eye out for 'beetle buggies', but is slightly distracted by the local flora "'Shrooms! Careful Bro, they'll make your head go funny. You should like, only eat them when chillin' out at home... Trust me Bro, you don't wanna' eat 'shrooms on the job." he quietly chuckles to himself What a trip that was!

Luurg catches 'Bros' last comment about Torch and stops and thinks out loud "Really? Guess dat makes sense if he sells people stuff he knows. I wonder if bossman knows he's lying? We best be careful, mebe there ain't even a mini-tar down here at all!"

Begrilda follows along at the back, quietly praying to all the dwarven deities to guide and protect her and her companions as they venture underground. When the group finally reaches the hidden entrance, she gently lays a hand on Eadric's shoulder and whispers reassuringly, Don't worry, Riccy, if the lights go out, I won't let you get lost." And a smile crosses her lips.

Traveling further down into the tunnels, Begrilda is awed by the extent of the tunnels. "My goodness! Absalom truly is a big place, to have something like this right below people's feet without them even knowing it!"

As the discussion turns to Grandmaster Torch's deception, the cleric pouts slightly, "Oh, but I thought we could be friends. That's no way to treat your friends, lying to them about some old minotaur. How disappointing!" Begrilda continually keeps an eye out for signs of any kind of threat as they walk through the darkness and into the glistening chamber with its still pool.

Terra, Eadric and Luurg move cautiously forward to the edge of the fungal field, examining the area carefully. Luurg pays special attention to the mushrooms growing abundantly, but fails to recognise whether they would make for good munching, for a nice experience or lay you in your coffin. From the distance, however, Begrilda notices distinct jaw marks on patches of the fungus, as if some creature has been feeding on them. Before she can warn the party, however, two over-sized beetles burst found from amongst the fungi, screeching at the foreign invasion of their nests!

One of beetles mandibles is unable to penetrate Terra's magical protection, but the force of the charge of the other allows him to punch right through, tearing a gash in his side.

Luurg knowledge:
Luurg recognises these as mining beetles. As vermin, they would be immune to mind affecting effects. They are so names because their powerful claws in the front legs, although ineffectual for attacking, allows them to burrow underground easily. Luurg also recalls that such mining beetles are occasionally reared by underground denizens for excavation work.

Kitt, any reason why Terra's token is elongated? :)

Mariana moves forward to study the beetles more closely, while Begrilda provides some guidance to Bishop. Luurg, recovering from the surprise, moves up and stabs a beetle with his spear but the attack glances of its carapace. Terra, driven by rage, bites down hard on the same beetle, crushing it into smithereens.

As the bug falls, Kitt complete's his mathematics. "Their not that strong! If we can focus our physical attacks, we can take them out!" Kitt moves towards Terra and touches her with a touch of guidance. "This should do the trick!"

Botting Bishop. Just noticed he had not checked in the gameplay thread so might not know that we have already started. Will pm him.

Kitt, deciding that the beetles are pushovers, decides to simply provide guidance to his eidolon. Bishop moves up towards the remaining beetle and manages to aim his dagger between the cracks of the its carapace, digging into its soft flesh underneath.
dagger, guidance: 1d20 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 5 + 1 = 18 dmg: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

The beetle, quite badly injured, attempts to bite at Bishop in return but he dodges out the way easily. The beetle then burrows itself slightly underground, leaving just its front exposed.
bite: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
It took 5-foot step to go 5 foot underground. So it would get cover bonus and no line of sight unless you are in the square next to it.

Eadric, slow to the party, snaps himself out of his mushroom musings to see what's left of two great beetles scuttling around his friends "Ew, ew, ew!" he approaches in a wide arc around the hind quarters of the half buried beetle, drawing his shield as he goes. That mouth... All that twitching... Suppressing a shudder, Eadric starts stamping at the ground, body leaning back so that he can be as far away from the creepy thing as possible.

Atk. Boot; Flank: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 2 = 24
Dmg. Bludgeoning: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Free action to draw shield, move action 20' avoiding AoOs, standard to attack.

Luurg once again attempts to stab the beetle with his spear but the angle is awkward and again merely scrapes past its carapace. Eadric circles around, finds an opening an stomps hard at its more vulnerable head, crushing it. The beetle twitches violently but briefly as its life drains away.

Combat over!

Examing the bodies of the beetles more closely, you notice that one of the insects is wearing a crude rope harness, obviously neglected for several months. It seems that these mining beetles are reared by some intelligent creatures and managed to escape.

Lifting up the carapace reveals glowing glands that shed light in a 10-foot radius, which do not fade despite the demise of the vermins. Digging through the mushroom field, you find a few isolated nests of beetle eggs. One nest in particular is lined with a scroll and three potions.

As you search the whole cavern, you find a number of cramp and dusty tunnels lead off of this chamber in several directions. From the construction and directions, they seemed to have been used by the mining beetles. To the northwest of this area is a large tunnel that seems heavily traveled as of late. Looking down the tunnel, you can see that it turns sharply as it opens to another large cavern about 30 feet away.

Survival DC15:
Not only has a minotaur been here, but it looks like he was attacked by a dozen or more creatures and dragged into the large tunnel. The footprints of the creatures match those that you found along your journey.

Kitt looks over and inspects the items, "Why on Golaria would there be a bunch of items here? Lost adventurer's maybe? Nonetheless, these items will come useful to us. It's a scroll of lesser restoration and a potion of cure light wounds." Pausing for a moment, he looks to his injured companion. "Speaking of which, could someone be so kind as to cure my little Terra here?" He says as he withdraws a wand of cure light wounds from his wrist sheaths.

CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

After the curing, he takes about a minute to store them back."These here are spring loaded, very handed when you need them in combat." Observing the paths, he suggest, "Terra, why don't you take the lead down the path? It seems it would make sense if we travel the one most travel, higher probability we'll run into somebody. Like whoever it was we're suppose to find."

Terra thanks however heals her."Much Thanks." Showing momentarily a softer side of her. But later as Kitt puts back the wand, she digs a few holes in the mushroom field without a care in the world.

As she is told to head up front and search, she rolls her eyes and moves at a very relaxed and lazy pace.

Luurg picks up his spear to check to see if its broken or needs to be sharpened after he fails to pierce the beetle shell yet again "Dis look ok to you Bro? I'm tinkin' dem beetles could be very much anti spear beetles crossed with diggin beetles."

Luurg grabs the wand from Kitt and looks at it quickly before asking for the password and healing Terra. "Dat must be applewood, good stuffs." He hands it back, and as he does he stoops down and sees something interesting in the dust and mushed mushies "Damn look here! Deez mini-tar prints! And mini-tar blood? And... " As he follows the tracks a bit up the hallway

"Deez may be mini-tar drag marks? Lots of dem people sized prints from earlier. 'Member Half lady? You didn't believe Luurg? Luurg doesn't ferget." He leans down close to Mariana and raises an eyebrow "Luurg knows his stuffs, no question Luurg." Before he raises himself back up to full height with a smile.

He heads off to the north with Terra and hollers back to Bishop "We gonna see real soon!" Heh I forgot he was even here, so quiet! Like a dark little mousey! And away he goes, stooping over to watch for tracks and anything else that catches his black beady little orc eyes as he goes. Take 10 on perception and survival as he goes, 16 each.

Eadric listens with growing concern as Luurg describes the ambush of the Minotaur they came down to find "Woah, how many dudes does it take to kidnap a Minotaur?" He pats Kitt on the back "Keep that stuff safe Brah, the prince might want it back." He rushes off to follow Luurg "Okay dudes and dudettes, time to like, totally save the day!"

I just learnt how important it could be for a fighter to hold a potion of CLW, so I'll take one if no-one objects.

With Terra leading the way, the party make haste down the wide tunnel, yet keeping the lookout for danger. The natural caverns suddenly give way to worked stone and metal fixtures. Dangling glass balls flicker and cast a weak, greenish glow across the chamber. Ahead, a series of greentiled, wide, terraced stairs slope up to an imposing bronze door, partly torn from its hinges. The stairs bear hundreds of symbols that seem to warp and flicker.

The reek of decay, along with a pungent, acidic smell fills the chamber. Heaps of bones and garbage are scattered about the room. On both sides of the bronze doors, numerous small idols sit in niches and nooks. Their clumsy design clearly contrasts the delicate swoops and strokes of the walls and door. The party huddle together in looming flickering green light, approaching the broken door.

With the confusing lighting, however, most of the party fails to notice the greyish humanoid hanging along the walls like a spider. He waits for most of the party to past before leaping down, charging at the most vulnerable member of the party at the back, smashing down on Mariana with his club. He looks bewildered, however, when his club smashes into a magical field around her. The sudden attack takes everyone by surprise as for the ever-vigilant Terra.

At the sight of danger, Terra immediately reacts by moving herself closer to the odd humanoid. "Stay away!" Grr.." She moves as quickly as she can, but not quick enough to stop it from attacking Mariana.

Bishop is quick to act and he races by Begrilda calling out to the others, "Ambush!" and moves until he can flank the creature with Kitt's rock pet.

Terra moves up to threaten the creature, while Bishop takes advantage of its momentary distraction to strike deep into it's back. The creature snarls in pain and yells out in a screech, "You no disturb our home! You no disturb our god!"

He ignores Bishop behind, and instead continue waving his club at Mariana. Strangely, he suddenly crouches down and with a mighty leap, jumps away from between Terra and Bishop, and swings at Mariana at the same time. Unfortunately, for him, his club smashes against her magical armor. His jump not landing him at far as he wanted, he turns his back to Bishop and races to the south and climbs up the wall easily like a lizard!
acrobatics, jump: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 7 feet
club vs Mariana FF: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9

When he jump out of the square he is in, he does not provoke an AoO from Terra or Bishop. He does subsequently provoke from Bishop as he ran away, but Bishop would not get his sneak attack as there is no flanking. Will mark out his path on the map.
