Sivantanpisil swims through the tunnel towards the aggressive sea creature.

Jirah falls prey to the monster's howl, dropping her bow and fleeing from it.

Frēodwēn attempts to counter the howl with some singing, but he's currently off-key.

The weird sea creature dives under the water and moves to bite Xakon. It manages to leave a savage bite on the rogue's left shoulder and neck, but fortunately misses an artery. Xakon takes 9 damage from the bite. He will take an additional 1d6 ⇒ 2 bleed damage on his next turn.

Yes, I failed to mention it, but Mudk does still have Bull Strength active.

Xakon tumbles through the water to avoid the creature's bite and stabs it in the heart, while Sivantanpisil hits it in the throat with her longspear, killing it.

Afterwards, Frēodwēn's singing ends Jirah's panicked flight.

Combat is over, but Xakon is still bleeding. Unless someone who hasn't acted yet can make it over to him to do a Heal skill check or heal him with magic, he takes another 1d6 ⇒ 5 bleed damage this round.

Since it will take a round for Sugarsnap to make her way to Xakon, he takes the 5 additional bleed damage before she heals him. My math indicates that he still has 7 damage after that and Truffles is still sitting at 6 damage

There's two doors in this room, one to the north which probably leads to the flooded hallway, the other west door probably to an unexplored area. You have about two minutes left of Bless and Mudk's Bull Strength. Let me know what you're doing.

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

Xakon finds no traps on the door and opens it to reveal a flooded hallway. Thanks to whatever magical barrier exists, the water on the other side does not pour into your dry room. There does not appear to be any immediate dangers in the hallway, but there are three doors: one to the west, two to the south.

As before, you'd need to make a Strength check to push through the barrier and swim checks to move down the hallway. As long as we are out of combat, we can forgo both checks for now assuming you get them eventually. Once we're back in combat, you'll need to make them again as the situation warrents.

Once you move into the flooded hall, you can feel a strong current pulling water through the grate on the west door.

That plan is fine with me.

Gamemaster | CC Map | S4 Map

Swimming through the hallway, the group discovers the north door leads to the long hallway they were in previously, while the two doors to the south only lead to empty storage closets.

The west door, however, leads to another enclosed space. This room is octagonal, shorter than it is wide, with a small platform overlooking the water. Near the floor on the west side is another magical portal.

Unfortunately there is no magic barrier here and all the water from your hallway rushes into it, threatening to carry those in the front into the waiting jaws of a sixteen foot long eel!

Xakon and Mudk need to make DC 15 swim checks immediately or be swept adjacent to the eel. You cannot take 10 since combat is starting. If you fail the swim check, you can make a DC 20 Reflex save to grab the doorway and stop in one of the squares by the doorway. If you choose to fail both checks for a quick way into the melee, that's fine, but you may provoke from the eel.

Anyone who moves into two squares above the doorway (i.e., the squares Xakon and Mudk are in at the time of this post) this round or the next needs also to make the same checks listed above to stop from being flushed into the room.

The eel opens it mouth wide, perhaps waiting for a tasty morsel to come straight to it. Readying an action, so it may interrupt your initiative sequence.

Also, I'll say no soft cover at the moment, but water is flowing into the room is increasing the water level so this may change.

With the eel unable to attack Xakon with a paladin in its jaws, the halfling makes good use of the distraction and Sivantanpisil's flank to injury the oversized fish with his rapier.

Although Mudk is unable to pry himself from the eel's teeth, he does manage to heal himself a little.

After asking Truffles to stay put, Sugarsnap advances down the hall and casts a Produce Flame spell. She then attempts to launch a small ball of fire at the eel, but a wave of water snuffs it out before it can hit.

Sivantanpisil moves to form a better flank with Xakon, but her subsequent attack fails to hit the quick eel on its home turf.

Jirah fires an arrow at the eel, but she also misses.

Jirah bow - soft cover: 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 7 - 4 = 14

The eel easily maintains Mudk in its jaws, as its teeth begin to saw through the paladin. As it swallows a bit more of Mudk, his body endures more injury from another set of back jaws. Mudk is still grappled, and takes 20 damage total from the eel's two sets of jaws.

I noticed that my chronicle from level 2 didn't have the Hex. I'm sure this was due to being absent at the end due to the birth of my daughter. I would have taken B1.

I took D2 in my GMed level 3 chronicle and B5 in my GMed level 4 chronicle. Just FYI.

So, I would now have A, B1, D2, B5, and B6.

I'll be applying both of the level 3 & 4 chronicles at "slow" progression. So, along with this one, I'll be level 5 for the next level of Emerald Spire.

I'm going to have a bunch of purchases as I've built up gold with 3 chronicles being applied at once. I'll work up a list this week.

ok I believe that the new animal companion knows only the druid bonus tricks and Sugar will have to train him for the rest.

I get 1 check per rank in handle animal.

so a level 5 druid new truffles starts with 2 free tricks

which will be basic ones:
Come
fetch

So with an Int of 2 New truffles can learn up to 6 more tricks (but I only get 5 checks as a level 5 druid)

now if these checks need to be done before level up then it will be 4 checks only.

Your pally is pretty awesome. Weapon focus falchion or Tougness is recommended for 5th level feat. I suggest saving for a adamantine full plate to soak damage.

Sugar, you can roll to combat train (DC 20) as a general purpose your pets for a slew of learned tricks.

Combat Trained:
An animal trained to bear a rider into combat knows the tricks attack, come, defend, down, guard, and heel. Training an animal for combat riding takes 6 weeks. You may also "upgrade" an animal trained for riding to one trained for combat by spending 3 weeks and making a successful DC 20 Handle Animal check. The new general purpose and tricks completely replace the animal's previous purpose and any tricks it once knew. Many horses and riding dogs are trained in this way.

Leveled up. Took Deadly Aim as level 5 feat and added Comprehend Languages to Spells Known. Also bought a belt of dexterity, which bumped up a bunch of stats (and made me feel comfortable with taking Deadly Aim). Should be really meting out some damage for our next module.

Is there a 1800gp item that would be useful? It turns out the Adaptive quality for composite bows is not CORE.

Maybe a magic buckler to bump AC up by 2. If I remember the rules correctly archers can benefit from those while attacking. Would take a -1 to melee attacks rolls while wearing it, but true opportunities to switch-hit have been few and far between.

Yes, barding is essential to keeping Truffles alive. I recommend masterwork studded leather at 200 gp for +3 AC if you want to avoid the armor check penalty. Or if you're feeling REALLY generous, taking mithril breastplate for 5,400 gp for +6 AC. It only has -1 ACP.

As soon as I get enough prestige, I will retrain and take the Mounted Combat feat to help with his survival.

I am purchasing a darkwood lance +1 and upgrading cloak of resistance to +2.

It's time to roll Day Jobs and let me know what Land Rush Hex you want to buy.

Link to Land Rush Chronicle Sheet.

Also, since Jirah disappeared do you all want to try to find a 6th player? If so, do you want to look specifically for an arcane character or just open it up to anyone with a 5-7 Core Character? I don't have a preference, other than to keep it at 6 or less players.

No land rush this time. Saving prestige. No day job either.

Also, a pure arcane caster would greatly help us. I'm all for adding a sixth.

I'm fine with finding a replacement, I think. A pure arcane caster would be great, but I would be fine with any level of arcane skill. We have combat ability pretty well covered I think.
