Frēodwēn recognizes these creatures as constructs known as Clockwork Servants. He immediately recalls that along with the net device, they are especially vulnerable to electric attacks and naturally repair themselves at a fast pace. Moreover, they can repair some additional damage to themselves or to other clockwork constructs in the space of 6 seconds.
Mudk steps up and swings his falchion at one of the constructs and lands a solid, damaging hit.
Frēodwēn then casts a Grease spell, but both clockwork servants manage to keep their balance over the slick area.

Xakon motions Truffles to step forward as he stabs the injured construct with his rapier.
rapier: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 7 + 1 = 9
magic, adamantine: 1d4 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 = 11
What time is it!?! Time to get a new clock.
Sivantanpisil
|
Sivantanpisil moves behind Mudk and uses her longspear to hit and damage the other clockwork servant.
I intended to hit the same construct as Mudk, the white one.
GM Harker
To make it easier for me to keep track of when Truffles acts and how many actions he's taken, he'll always act on Sugar's turn. So, Xakon can make a Handle Animal check as a move action to get him to do a Trick he knows, but it'll happen on Sugar's turn. If there is a conflict between what Sugar wants Truffles to do and what Xakon wants him to do, whoever has a higher Handle Animal check will succeed in commanding the boar, with ties going to Sugar. Otherwise, things can easily become confused and/or can slow the game down.

As Xakon urges truffles into combat Truffles tries to gore the clock.
Truffles attack - magic fang and power attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27

Sugarsnap casts a spell to augment Truffles' natural weapons.
Xakon then urges the boar forward into battle and Truffles readily complies, goring the construct in front of him. Xakon follows that up with a rapier thrust, but misses and almost loses the grip on his weapon.
As the clockwork servants prepare to retaliate, some of their damaged parts begin to show signs of self-repair.
Both constructs attempt to slam Mudk and Truffles respectively. Only the (black) clockwork servant to the south manages to hit his target, causing some minor injury to Truffles. Truffles takes 7 damage.

yeah! get 'em Truffles. Sugar cheers on Truffles.
but then he gets hit and Sugar almost starts to freak out. Stop hurting my Truffles!!! she yells
Freo, get in there and help my Truffles and Xakon she says as she pats him on the butt (its as high as she can reach)
cast guidance on Freo
GM Harker
I believe Freod only started Inspire Courage now in this round, so you didn't miss it last round.
Frēodwēn begins to inspire his colleagues to greater heights in battle, while Mudk continues to press his attack on the same (white) construct, but doesn't hit this time.
Truffles has more success with his (black) target, goring the clockwork creature again. Sugarsnap does her best to encourage everyone else, and casts a Guidance spell on Frēodwēn.

...but fails miserably.

Xakon shakes his head at the previous attempt and tries again in a fit of rage.

GM Harker
Sivantanpisil and Xakon both attempt to attack their respective enemies, but neither strike hits its target.
The gears inside the clockwork servants continue to fit themselves back together as the constructs renew their attacks. The previous round of action seems to repeat itself as the northern (black) construct misses Mudk, but the (white) one in the south slams Truffles again. Truffles takes another 7 damage.
White Slam: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12

Mudk hits the (white) northern construct and it begins to emit smoke as some of its gears begin to leak out of its torso before falling to the ground inert. The paladin then follows that up with a cleaving strike against the (black) southern construct which also destroys that creature with a decisive blow.
Combat Over
Neither Clockwork Servant appears to have anything valuable on them, nor do the piles of scrap, which appear to consist heavily of damaged pieces of Emerald Automatons. There is another door to the north, and a red lever in the down position on the eastern wall.

did we search the room already?

I thought our SOP was for Xakon to search the room with aids from the rest of the party. Is that only for doors, or did we move away from the SOP at some point?

Taking 10 with 3 aids is good enough for me. Add +2 for trapfinding. Is there any way to disable the levers?
Xakon offers his healing wand to heal the bloodied Truffles II. He searches around the room and inspects the red lever and northern door for traps. Afterwards, he climbs aboard Truffles and waits for the door to open.

Frēodwēn joins the party at the door, ready to move forward.
-Posted with Wayfinder
GM Harker
Mudk opens the door which leads to a small bronze hallway. After moving through it at a 90 degree angle, you return to a stone passage that leads you 25 feet to the north before making a turn to west that goes to another 90 degree angled bronze passageway that turns to the south. After the third turn, the walls are composed of stone once more and you come across some doors. These double doors to the west are made of bronze plate. They are inscribed with runic lettering and the images of strange, partially formed creatures with blank faces and featureless bodies. The lettering appears to be in a language no one in the group understands.
An examination of the doors reveals that they are unlocked and are not trapped. Behind the doors you can hear a loud ticking sound. Assuming Xakon taking 10 on Perception with three auto-aids.

Frēodwēn murmurs a spell comprehend languages and studies the runes more closely.

Using his Comprehend Languages spell, Frēodwēn translates the inscription to the following, 'Glory to the makers, the shapers, the fashioners of servants. In this crucible let artifice and theurgy be joined in noble purpose for the dominion of derrokind!'
We'll move forward through the door tomorrow unless there's something else someone wants to do. I believe Truffles still has 14 damage unless I missed someone healing him.

Mudk heals up Truffles as he gets ready to move through the door.

After healing Truffles completely, the group proceeds to open the doors. This chamber seems to be the origin of the ticking sounds heard elsewhere. A heavy brass housing in the middle of the room covers a clockwork arrangement of gears and cogs, that clank loudly as they slowly move. Revolving camshafts and rocker mechanisms extend from the housing to various points in the ceiling, driving unseen mechanisms.
The room also seems to serve as a workshop. Nine alcoves contain unfinished automatons in various stages of assembly. A panel with a red lever and a black lever is set in a curved wall at the west end of the room, and doors lead east and north.
Standing in the middle of the room next to an Emerald Automaton is a tall and gaunt human man who looks at you expectantly. Gold plating is joined to his flesh in various places, making him half man, half automaton. After taking a look at those of you he can see, he imperiously greets the group, "I have visitors, it seems! Yet I do not recall inviting you. Explain yourselves!"
