I thought magical fire wasn't immediately extinguished when it hits water? otherwise the water elemental's drench ability is kind of a useless thing. I think there is a caster level check to allow it to continue to work (as steam instead of fire) DC 20+spell level.
caster level check DC 22: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23 yes! it worked (lucky dice dice)
| GM Harker |
The write up for Flaming Sphere says that anything that extinguishes a normal fire will extinguish the sphere, so my thinking was it would fall into the water since it can't fly and would move towards the ground.
Since I did allow it to work over water last time, however, I'll allow it to remain here as well. We'll assume it hovers over the water.
A water elemental's drench ability would still be useful if it's fighting on land, though.
Sugarsnap's flaming sphere remains on the battlefield despite initially appearing to be about to fall into the water.
Sivantanpisil channels energy to heal the wounds of Xakon and Mudk, then swims over by the paladin.
Mudk attempts to crack the crab eidolon's shell once again to little effect and heals himself further.
Jirah is up.

Jirah attempts to swim into the room, but cannot coordinate her movement and stays in place for the moment.
Jirah Swim check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The summoner's spell finishes, and a man-sized frog pops into existence next to her. The frog attempts to bite Xakon, but the rogue easily dodges the attack. The undine then attempts to cast a spell defensively, but loses it. She then take the opportunity to arm herself with a dagger.
The crab eidolon attacks Mudk with two bites and claw, hitting the unarmored paladin all three times and rendering him unconscious. The eidolon then moves 5 feet to attack Sivantanpisil with one claw, but its last attack misses. Mudk takes 29 damage from three attacks for a total of 41 damage which is enough to render him unconscious.

You get two move actions to try to swim.
Xakon

At the time of Jirah's swim check, the square in front of her was occupied by Freod, so to move at all she had to make a full round action swim check.
You may consider using a reroll if you have it Jirah. Your wasted round may be a turning point in the battle.
Jirah Aurellion

I don't remember if I used my reroll for this chronicle or not. If I haven't...
GM Star Reroll for Swim Check: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
This floor has absolutely plagued me with low rolls. Ugh.
| GM Harker |
I'm afraid Jirah already used her reroll to attack the crab swarm. In this round the group has just about defeated the undine though, so things are looking up.
Frēodwēn swims very quickly into the room and fires an arrow into the undine.
Xakon doesn't manage to swim as acrobatically as he likes and leaves himself open to an attack of opportunity from the construct. Fortunately, it misses.
The rogue then does a cleaving strike that hits both the summoned frog and the undine summoner.

It's not dead yet. However, if Sugar moves the flaming sphere to undine, then there is a chance undine will die if it fails its reflex save. Thankfully, she just barely has line of sight.

Leaving the sphere on the robot thing, Sugar tries to clear her head after the death of her beloved and bestest friend in the whole world. Sugar peers around the corner as Mudk falls.

We really need that flaming sphere on the undine, Sugar
Sivantanpisil
|
Yea, but if you hit the undine this round, it should die, and then the eidolon will disappear. So removed two monsters with one move! Then we can all focus on the construct. As it stands, we'll have all 4 monsters to deal with next round.
Lady Sugarsnap
|
I guess this is one of those moments where I am conflicted as to what is mechanically a sound choice and what Sugar would actually do. I mean that robot just sliced truffles in two. that is a pretty big deal to a druid. she has revenge on her mind at the moment. I actually do feel a little conflicted as to what to do to be honest.
| GM Harker |
Overcome with grief and anger at the loss of her companion, Sugarsnap directs the flaming sphere into the construct again, burning it a bit more. She then casts a orison that instantly stops Mudk from succumbing from his wounds.
The Emerald Automaton then swims 5 feet out of the sphere's reach and swings its reach weapon at Xakon. The rogue's defenses easily prevent both attacks from striking.

Double Move. Next round maybe I can do something.
When she sees the scene in front of her she shouts.
Sugar! I know that construct just killed poor Truffles, but if we want any hope of avenging him or getting out of here alive to bring him back, we need you to hit that Undine with your sphere!
Also Sugar, the rules prevent me from donating PP to bring Truffles back, but I am willing to chip in the GP for the Raise Dead spell. If everyone does, it becomes rather cheap, and then all you have to do is use PP for Restoration, and he's as good as new!
| GM Harker |
Sivantanpisil heals Xakon and Mudk a bit, and the grievously paladin wakes up.
Jirah finally makes it into the room and attempts to talk strategy with the vengeful Sugarsnap.
To keep things moving, we'll say Mudk delays for the moment. Since he was unconscious, he dropped his falchion. Remember, picking up a weapon provokes an AoO.
The undine attempts to cast another spell defensively and this time succeeds. She then manages to press her acid palm against Xakon's throat, causing severe caustic burns. She crit with a Corrosive Touch spell, Xakon takes 26 acid damage.
Her summoned frog then follows up with a bite on Xakon, but misses.
The Crab eidolon turns its full attention now on the healer Sivantanpisil and hits her four times with two bites and two claws. Siv takes 24 damage in total, leaving her at 0 HP.

Cleric Down!
My previous turn, I had backed up 5'. It doesn't make a difference in the crab attacking me, but may make a difference for Mudk. I was on my iphone and unable to move the token. I'll move it now and the crab will need to move as well to attack me.
| GM Harker |
Siv, you aren't unconscious at 0 HP. You are Disabled.
A disabled character may take a single move action or standard action each round (but not both, nor can he take full-round actions, but he can still take swift, immediate, and free actions). He moves at half speed. Taking move actions doesn't risk further injury, but performing any standard action deals 1 point of damage after the completion of the act. Unless the action increased the disabled character's hit points, he is now in negative hit points and dying.
Frēodwēn fires two arrows at the undine, but only one hits. The severely injured undine looks like a swift wind could knock her unconscious.

| GM Harker |
Let's just go with your first LoH roll for 7 hp, Mudk.
As the situation grows increasingly desperate, Mudk makes a last ditch effort to get back into the fight by swimming over to the undine and attempting to punch her. He first gets bitten by the crab eidolon as he provokes an opportunity attack by swimming, then he gets jabbed with the undine's dagger as he prepares to punch. The summoner's attack is quite ineffectual, however, more of a slap than a stab. After weathering both attacks of opportunity, he finally punches her in the belly, and the undine summoner falls to the ground unconscious. The crab growls in frustration before it pops out of this plane of existence. Mudk takes 5 damage from the eidolon bite and 1 nonlethal from the dagger.
Unfortunately, the construct still remains a powerful threat. It swims five feet towards Frēodwēn and attacks twice with its ranseur. The first attack hits hard, but Ranger/Bard just barely dodges the second attack. Freod takes 18 damage from the attack.
