Assuming everyone else is ok with this plan.
Once everyone has moved down, Amnur takes hold of the ladder and hefts it, waddling over to the far wall and leaning it against it at a climbable angle, even shaking and hopping on the lowest rung a few times to ensure stability. Once confident it's secure, he clambers up the other side and takes a ready stance, waiting for the others to join him up top.

![]() |

Varian follows Amnur up the ladder, waiting at the top to help any others up the final step.

![]() |

Assuming everyone follows the plan.
Other sogging up some boots, everyone will make it across safely to the ledge on the other side. It follows down to a long hallway with a framework of old timbers that shore up the cracked and uneven ceiling. In the middle of the hall, a large stone block lies on top of the corpse of a crushed goblin. Amnur and Varian, you both see something clutched in the hands of the deceased.
Level 2 map updated.

![]() |

Varian moves forward carefully so as not to cause further rockfall and takes teh item clutched inthe hand of the dead goblin. He examines it, casting detect magic if necessary.

Varian Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Varian Acrobatics: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 2 = 6
Falling block chance: 1d100 ⇒ 65
As Varian approaches the goblin, the hallway shifts slightly and a block falls right behind the aasimar, landing with a loud thud!
@Varian: Now that you are closer, you see that the goblin was clutching a suit of chainmail sized for a human. After a quick incantation, you find out it is indeed magical, although only faintly so.

![]() |

Shilyn decides to show off a bit using the columns instead of the ladder to span the hole. When the block falls, she shakes her head and mutters, "Another fine mess we're in, but hey.. it's dry." Slipping her bow from her shoulder she knocks an arrow and prepares for the usual..

![]() |

Orion follows, looking around.
perception: 1d20 ⇒ 6

![]() |

Varian looks to Mylv and FLori.... "Can either of you identify what this does - it is slightly magical, but that's all I can tell. Since it offers more protection than the chain shirt I'm wearing, I might just put it on if it's safe."

![]() |

Amnur watches the others make their way into the unstable room, his rock senses tingling with the danger therein, but takes a breath and rumbles forward as carefully as a steel-covered-dwarf can. "Roanock!" he whispers intensely as he moves.

![]() |

Amnur Acrobatics: 1d20 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 1 - 4 = 8
Falling block chance: 1d100 ⇒ 72
As Amnur tries to emulate Orion who is emulating Shilyn, his bulky armor makes each step a slow clang. The dwarf almost reaches Varian when the hallway shakes a bit with the last step and a rock lands between him and the more nimble Orion.
@Mylvwara: It is +1 chainmail.

![]() |

Blocks the path? Or is it scaleable, pushable, etc etc?

![]() |

"Let's get out of here before someone gets crushed."

![]() |

Amnur nods and hurries onward once the others have each made the traversal, standing stoutly with upraised shield for some protection as the stragglers hurry over.

![]() |

Now that all of the armored people crossed, the others can take 10 and make their successful Acrobatics checks to cross without disturbing the hallway further.
Moving ahead, the hallway winds up to a staircase. The staircase leads to balcony above on the upper level of this dungeon.
Continuing this will lead you to the diamond-shaped balcony on level 1; level 1 and 2 maps updated.

![]() |

Looking around as they've come full circle, Amnur chuckles to himself, wincing a little as he's still a little weakened by the blood suckers from earlier. "Lets go open that door then." and (assuming the others are amicable) heads that way until he's standing before it. "Shi, if ever your skills were needed, I'm betting this door is it." he states.

![]() |

sure Varian will wear it if that's ok with everyone else

![]() |

While Shi is checking the door, Varian takes a few moments to put onthe chainmail armor.

![]() |

You'll have to head downstairs to reach the door; the quickest way to is to set up some ropes and climb down, although for those who wish not to finagle with such things, you may take the long way around via the crypt room, down past the pool room, and around the pit hallway to reach the bottom floor with the door. Regardless of which path you take, it'll be a safe experience.

![]() |

I was hoping my post would take into consideration the travel times... since it's a safe experience and all.

![]() |

Amnur needs the exercise. He can go the long way.

![]() |

Sorry for all the off handed comments Amnur, it's just that I can't tease the "women" of the group about their weight. YOu know how that is... Also, I would tease Varian as the other guy, but the profile pic is just so Emo, that I am afraid to hurt it's feelings for fear of what measure the ridicule would cause ;) .
I'll make sure the girls take the majority of Orion's sexual harrasment, and keep you out of that at least.

![]() |

Walking over the the door in front of Amnur, Shilyn sets her bow down to give the door a good going over before trying to open it.
perception: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27

![]() |

@Shilyn: Looking over the door, there are no notable keyholes or handgrips for the door. The only thing that stands out is the ring of circular indents on the door. It appears that something must be inserted into the indents. After carefully making sure that a handpress won't trigger anything, you close your eyes and drown out the sound of the others; you feel a gentle, magical hum in the door and your instincts tell you that attempting to insert something into slots incorrectly may result in something unpleasant happening.

![]() |

Amnur takes the news in stride, looking into a few pockets and pouches, "Did we get a key or somethin'?" he asks the others, not looking forward to going back through the entire dungeon looking for a single key.
How long to take 20 on a search of the whole place? Days?

![]() |

The goal is to get through the door. :P
Amnur comes up empty on a search of his pockets, "Well? Anyone have any ideas?"

![]() |

I look at Amnur, "Red star at the top. Do we have any red shiny things?"
Then I turn to Shi with a grin and a cocked eyebrow, "Don't make me search you for that gem: Orion will faint."

![]() |

"Red Star? Didn't we find some stones of various colors while searching this place?"

![]() |

Giving a soft giggle at Mylvwara's words, Shilyn reaches into her pouch and pulls out a handful of gems that she's acquired since entering the ruins. "That's true, we wouldn't want to embarrass him so," she says as she hands over the gems. "One bunch of family gems, coming up."

![]() |

Amnur feels some relief, and he was seriously considering putting his fingers into the indentations, just to see what'd happen. "So- stick 'em in!" and if not ones steps forward the impatient dwarf moves to do it himself.

![]() |

"If the red one goes in the center there is likely a set order the others need to go in as well. Just sticking them in willy-nilly is likely to end in some kind of disaster."

![]() |

Amnur pauses and sighs, "Well how'r we supposed to know the right order then?" and examines the door more closely, trying to get a clue as to how to proceed.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 13

![]() |

"Well, the colors of the rainbow are red orange yellow green blue indigo violet... maybe they go in that order if we have those colors of stones. What exactly do we have in the way of colored stones and how many places are there to insert them?

![]() |

"Well, the colors of the rainbow are red orange yellow green blue indigo violet... maybe they go in that order if we have those colors of stones. What exactly do we have in the way of colored stones and how many places are there to insert them?
BPC? Keeping track of stuff on pbp is hard...

![]() |

Amnur comes up with the gems they've found so far while in this place, hoping someone smart can give a little guidance. He finishes listing them and looks around, "Any other gems I forgot?"
- 5 green peridots - chest with sleep arrow
- purple garnet - mist room of fear
- 5 rubies - statue & pouch
- 2 orange gems - evil idol statue
- small, bluish-purple lapis lazuli - shadow creature
The Level 2 map has a picture of the door. There are seven small circles (probably where the gemstones go) around a larger star-shape. Is the star shape indented as if something goes there also?

![]() |

Amnur has it correct! Those are all the ones you found. Now, what to do with the missing stones? /evilGMgrin
And on that note, you guys have basically cleared out the dungeon aside from the one door. Unless you're doing something specifically risky, I'll assume people will take 10 or 20 on skill checks as necessary.

![]() |

Amnur thinks back, "Some of the badduns we faced had gems, others did not. I'm thinkin' it'd be good to check a few places with an eye for gems. The empty sarcophagus and the undead we faced, the giant bugs we fought, and the entire goblin area. Also maybe the pit where I fell down? I think we need to find a few more gem types for those spots. Any other ideas?"
If the others agree, Amnur will thoroughly search the aforementioned areas with the others.
Amnur does get a +2 on perception with his Stonecutting ability with unusual stonework like traps and hidden doors, etc...

![]() |

"Sounds like a good idea... seems like we are missing just 2 stones - yellow and blue."

![]() |

Amnur Intelligence check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Spending more time in the pit than anyone else, Amnur recalls the yellow crystals lining the walls in the stirge-laden room. Using rope for a quicker trip, he heads up the balcony, to the west and heads downstairs towards the cavernous chamber. A couple of whacks with his warhammer produces a number of yellow quartz crystals the size of his finger.
If anyone else is stumped, they may make a DC 15 Intelligence check to recall possibly seeing anything else of particular note :)

![]() |

1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
"Does anyone else recall seeing any bluish gems along the way? Varian asks, clueless himself.

![]() |

Holding up the yellow quartz triumphantly, Amnur places them into a pouch with the rest of the stuff. "The shadow creature coughed up the blue-ish gem, I think." as he strives to recall where else they'd searched. "Wasn't that pool sparkley somehow?" and heads that way to investigate the fountain.

![]() |

remembering from earlier
Amnur gets to the fountain and quickly notices the blue shards at the bottom, and scoops some out with his weapon, examining them closely to see if they're of value.
Afterward he also makes a point to check out the greenish pool in the area of the goblin battle.
