As the pathfinder discuss what to do, two sling stones fly out of the darkness at Zimti

The pathfinder team
Zimti (1 damage)
The creatures in the darkness.
You are all up. Stones probably came from the other side of the river.
Zimti |
Would that one be lethal or nonlethal?
Zimti flinches from the harsh stone that struck him. "Argh! Something ahead, about 60' out, seeing as I can barely see it with my dark sight." Zimti moves ahead and ducks into a nook to the right, nearly vanishing in the process. "And another one just behind it and to the left! Be careful!" He ponders how he can cross that pesky river separating them.
In frustration, Zimti quickly puts a bomb together and lobs it over the river at the first critter he sighted.
Bomb 20' range splash weapon splash dmg 5, aiming 50' out for -4
Bombs Away!: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (1) + 5 - 4 = 2 Damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
miss direction: 1d8 ⇒ 4
It flies 3 squares up and to the right on the map since Zimti threw it in the 3rd range increment, so no splash on either one.
In his haste, the bomb flies high past the target and wide to the left, ending with a harmless flash and splash.
Best as Zimti can estimate it, how bad is the swim in that river?
Fenrik Wolfblade |
"Well these things attacked Zimmi so they therefore forfeit the right to breathe!" Fenrik calls out and rushes forward un-slinging his longbow to attack. if Fenrik can see them then...
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
if it hits then
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
I thought the walls had some glowing lichen on them to allow us vision in the caverns...?
//Jazmine\\ |
Giggles and Jazmine both run up the tunnel towards the water. As she gets closer, Jazmine will whip out her sling and try and hit the closest of the assailants.
Both will take 30 ft moves
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
GM Aerondor |
The river is a slow flow. Without testing you can't be sure, but it is probably fordable (slow, counts as difficult terrain) at least in the wide spot (near the trap).
Not that it matters as
Fenrick downs one of the creatures with a single arrow, while Jazmine drops the other with a sling stone to its head.
Avoiding the trap, the team checks the bodies. Kobolds.
There is another exit from the area, a tunnel that winds upwards..
The only real choices here are continuing onwards, or going back to the main chamber with the gillman.
Zimti |
Zimti looks over the bodies, rummaging them for the rest of the stones as well as any other goodies they might have. "Kobolds is bad business. May be the other gillmen fell to them?"
"Let's see if there are more of them further on. C'mon!" The alchemist takes one glance at where his bomb landed, and shakes his head as he forged onward, muttering all the while, "How could I have missed by so much? Must'a have been the wind...an updraft from the river? No..."
//Jazmine\\ |
Jazmine snorts at the mutterings of the little man, and claps him on the shoulder as she passes. "Fear not my friend. I have full faith that you will redeem yourself. Taking the lead, she peers down the tunnel leading away from the river.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
GM Aerondor |
fate: 1d6 ⇒ 6
The group continues on up through the tunnels. After a while they can hear was sounds a bit like sound from outside filtering down through the mountains. Could it be Janira?
The group starts to hurry... and then comes to a halt. Ahead is a large patch of fungi.
Fenrik Wolfblade |
Fenrik stabs the fallen foes to ensure they were not playing possum. Then he rejoins the rest of the group as they view the disturbing fungi...
GM Aerondor |
No magical auras linger.
If you are trained in knowledge(dungeoneering) you may want to make a check.
Zimti |
Zimti takes a step back when Riften calls out a warning about breathing it. To be safe, he follows it with another step back. But, the voice outside...
He eyes the plant suspiciously. "What is that thing?"
In case K(Nature) is a thing, I'll try for it too
K(Nature): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14
"What if I try to burn it with a bomb?"
As the noise outside echoes in his head, Zimti grows impatient. He uncorks a flask and downs its contents. Then, he makes sure everyone is far enough away as he prepares a bomb...
Drink cognatogen (+2 NA, +4 INT, -2 STR, 10 minutes). Making a bomb for that plant, from 20' away. Let me know if anything happens between now and when I lob that bomb...
Zimti |
"Wait! It's just a patch of fungus! What am I all worried about?" Unfortunately, Riften's warning put just enough of a fear in the little man, and he decides to pull out a club and throw it at the fungus. Zimti holds his breath as he watches the club fly through the air, and cringes instinctively as it lands...
He's 20' out still, so -2, +1/+1 for PBS, and no str to damage because of the -2 to STR (at 10)
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
Zimti should not be throwing things. Anyone else want to try stirring it up, hopefully from a distance?
GM Aerondor |
The club lands in the middle of the fungus patch. Suddenly the whole patch of fungus ... moves
fungus patch: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (16) - 1 = 15
Zimti: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Zimti, from 20' out, lobs a bomb at the fungus. Uncertain what the bomb will do, the wee man steps back as he watches the bomb fly toward the...thing.
PBS +1/+1, INT at 22(+6), splash 7, followed by 5' step to go behind cover.
Bomb!: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8 Damage!: 1d6 + 7 ⇒ (5) + 7 = 12
Fenrik Wolfblade |
"Wee man what did you do???" Fenrik exclaims as the fungus moves.
if Zimmi's attack destroyed the fungus then Fenrik advances with the others, if the atack does not destroy the fungus then Fenrik shoots it with his longbow
Longbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 4
//Jazmine\\ |
Giggles attempts to jump at the.. thing.. but Jazmine pulls her back. "No, Giggles!! We dont know what that is yet!" She will draw her sling and fire away.
Atteck: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Jazmine is just too freaked out by the fungi and distracted by wrestling with Giggles to land her shot
GM Aerondor |
Zimti lobs a bomb. The aim is not the best, but the target is big. The bomb lands with a bang. Lots of the fungi are blown apart.. revealing something underneath. A something that continues to slither towards the group.
Fenrik fires his bow at the odd mass of substance. The arrows hits it easily and hard but still it comes on. Jazmine, upset by the odd things approach doesn't manage to do much with her sling.
The patch of ooze flows forwards at a remarkable rate, trying to engulf Zimti and Riften.
Choice time, Zimti and Riften can each either attempt a DC13 reflex save, in which case you have been pushed clear of the ooze (move your token backwards if successful) - or attempt an attack of opportuntiy against the ooze as if flows over you. If it doesn't die you will be pinned underneath it.

With shadow like reflexes, Zimti dodges backwards and manages to to escape the engulfing thing. Alas, he watches in horror as Riften falls prey to it.
"Hey! Give him back!" Zimti shouts as he takes another step back and flicks a second club at the ooze.
Club 2: 1d20 + 5 - 4 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 4 = 9 Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
//Jazmine\\ |
Giggles breaks free from Jazmine and runs at the ooze with a howl of indignation.. hitting the blob right where Riften disappeared.

Screaming in fear for her little friend, Jazmine unleashes another bolt at the creature
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
The dice do not like Jazzy today...
GM Aerondor |
Zimti is pushed backwards just in time, and then throws a club at the thing. It is quickly absorbed but the ooze certainly reacted to it.
Fenrick is pinned, that doesn't totally rule out all actions, but they are quite limited. One option is an escape artist check.

Fenrick
Jazmine
Riften 6 damage, engulfed. Fort DC15 required against a disease.
Fungus 6 damage (you guess it is immune to fire)

Fenrik Wolfblade |
"Get this thing off of me!" Fenrik screams before he gets engulfed. He tries to wriggle away...
CMB: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20 CMB or Escape Artist, his CMB is higher
and in case that fails here is his Fort check...
Fort check: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
well...poop... both bad rolls...
GM Aerondor |
oopse my bad. But things are looking up.
Giggles charges in and tears shreds off the horrible creature. It still keeps coming though.
Jazmines own attack is not too good.
Fenrick using your CMB roll as an attack sticks his sword through in. Slowly the ooze starts to break apart. Little bits slither off in this direction and that, but the thing has lost it's internal cohesion.
Riften emerges, covered in sticky oozy stuff, and looking a little the worse for wear.
The words of Janira are louder here, you think you must be near the surface. Horribly however, you can also make out the bellow of a minotaur - it sounds like Janira has't been able to shake it, and may be in trouble...

Riften 6 damage
Fenrik Wolfblade |
"Hey! Someone needs to heal Riftman and quick. He seems to be bleeding out. I can't heal him. But maybe I can stop the flow of blood."
Heal: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Zimti |
Seeing the poor state Riften is in, Zimti takes a moment and pours an elixir of healing down his throat.
CLW elixir: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Then, he dashes onward, beckoning the group as he does. "C'mon! I hear our fearless leader Janira! She may need us!"
GM Aerondor |
Racing through the caves the team soon comes out to the surface. It is night, but a full moon illuminates the scene in front of you. Janiva, tired and bloodied leads the minotaur in chase. For a moment she stumbles and the minotuar almost catches up.
--
Okay map up in a moment. Green is difficult terrain (no running or charging). The stream is fast (difficult to swim) but there is a slippery log you can cross (athletics dc7).
You have all got a single free action you can use before we roll for initiative (so you could close a bit, or those of you more ranged may take to the ledge for a good view of action, etc.
Fenrik Wolfblade |
That is a Tarrasque sized Minotaur on the map. Is that accurate? 14x13 squares? Is that past Gargantuan size?
Fenrik Wolfblade |
Fenrik sheaths his dueling blade, unslings his bow, knocks an arrow and moves towards the mouth of the cave. "Wee man, I'd advise against throwing a stick at this one..."
//Jazmine\\ |
Jazzy just shakes her head at the idea of clubs and arrows against the mammoth brute and looks for Giggles... who happeno to be planted a ways back in the tunnel with a very obstinate look
