Natalia Markovich |
Natalia checks the door for locks or traps in response to Lulu's suggestion.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
"Doesn't seem like anyone is home, I agree that we should probably let ourselves in. Well, after Muroi finishes his look anyway."
GM Lamplighter |
Muroi can't tell much beyond the information he already notices. He does manage to localize the other two auras, as they move around the house. By correlating the auras with some strange fluttering of papers and movement of dust, he deduces that they are probably unseen servants. The third aura under the sofa is a conjuration aura.
Dismoon: you checked the entire area thoroughly.
Muroi I |
"Well, my friends. As I told you, there are three auras, two are moving around, that makes me think they probably are unseen servants, I really hope so. The other is under the sofa, as a precaution, take care when you are moving around it. Said that, Muroi waits for his friends.
Natalia Markovich |
If the door is locked, Natalia attempts to disable the lock.
Disable Device + MW Thieves' Tools: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
If that fails, then take 10 or 20 as necessary.
Lulwa "Lulu" al Qaisi |
"Stealing my thunder, Natalia..." Lulu shakes her head with a grin. "Muroi, what would something conjure under the sofa? That sounds odd..."
Lulwa "Lulu" al Qaisi |
"Are you asking me to crawl under a couch with you?" says Lulu, her green eyes twinkling. "And yes, but let's be ready for conjured nastiness. I heard that's how you get jin."
Soumral Arlindil |
Soumral enters the room and positions herself to watch the stairs, the couch, and any other places that a person or worse could come from while the others search about.
Natalia Markovich |
Natalia steps into the doorway and looks around, apparently not eager to take the lead after the incident with the festrog.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Lulwa "Lulu" al Qaisi |
sorry, can't post for a few more hours :(
GM Lamplighter |
You enter the room and spread out. As you do so, Muroi senses the aura under the couch flare to life. Around the room, small black globes appear hanging in mid-air about a foot off the ground and expand to about two feet in diameter. The interior of the globe appears black, but is dotted with stars in unfamiliar patterns. From within each globe a multi-legged insect with glowing red eyes pulls itself free of the globe and lands on the floor, mandibles clacking!

Everyone but Muroi is up!
GM Lamplighter |
Knowledge (planes) - Dismoon: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
Knowledge (nature) - Muroi: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Dismoon: these creatures is tainted by the lower planes - it's probably resistant to fire and maybe also cold.
Muroi: they look like fire beetles, but horribly twisted and nasty versions. The glow is harmless, but their mandibles are strong. They can also fly clumsily.
Dismoon |
She shouts "A summons from the Outer Sphere! Fire and cold will not harm them...but perhaps this will!" she raises a palm at the nearest beetle and a small portal seems to open in mid-air, revealing a sky with sun-lined clouds. From within a solid beam of light emerges...

Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
...but harmlessly dissipates upon the stone floor.
Soumral Arlindil |
Soumral steps toward the closet insect Red drawing her rapier. She jabs at the thing hoping to skewer it before it starts skittering off.
Attack (Flanking): 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 5 + 2 = 15
Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Natalia Markovich |
I'm not sure if Dismoon has a weapon out that threatens, so I'll leave the flanking bonuses out of the rolls.
Natalia draws one of her daggers and stabs at the giant beetle next to her.
Natalia dagger vs. Blue Beetle: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18 (+2 if flanking)
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Additional Precision Damage if flanking: 1d8 ⇒ 2
Lulwa "Lulu" al Qaisi |
"Conjured nastiness. Why are wizards like this?" quips Lulu, and unleashes a ball of aether wrapped around some lint.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 = 17
for: 1d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 5 + 1 = 11
She'll risk the AoO.
GM Lamplighter |
The fiendish beetles, slow to react to their new environment, prove woefully ineffective guardians. Therin crushes one with his morning star, and Soumral skewers another on her rapier. Natalia manages to wound one with her dagger, which Lulu finishes off with a blast of aetheric force. (Wrapped up quickly for sake of brevity - with them all going last, you easily dispose of them.)
There are no sounds beyond the ones you make. A large double door to your left and two single doors on the right beckon.
Where to?
Muroi I |
"Well done, guys." Muroi is fascinated with those creatures. He takes a moment to observe them before to follow to Dismoon. While he walks behind of Therin, "I would love to have more time to study these monsters, don't you, guys?"
Natalia Markovich |
I took the liberty of restoring the map after its unintentional move, as well as placing Dismoon and Therin by the double doors.
Natalia joins the others by the double doors, dagger ready. "Normally, I'd check it for traps since the couch was trapped, but let's hope for the best."
GM Lamplighter |
Muroi: I forgot to mention, all of the beetles disappeared into smoke when they were killed.
Dismoon sees a well-appointed bedroom with a desk. Bookshelves line the wall on either side of the bed, and one of the corner towers sports a fine telescope with an ornate embossed leather tube. No creatures are visible.
Soumral Arlindil |
Soumral wipes her blade clean on the couch. It seems only fair if the gnome trapped it.
She walks over to keep a watch on the stairs as the others investigate the next room. There are plenty of them there, and the stairs are an easy route to approaching them from their rear without eyes on them.
Natalia Markovich |
Since the bedroom appears to be a bust, Natalia strolls over to the northeast door, checking it for traps and listening behind it.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8
If it appears to be clear of dangers, she opens it and looks inside.
GM Lamplighter |
This chamber contains enough chairs, pillows, and desks to accommodate at least six visitors. An examination of the table in the southwest corner reveals a neatly penned letter:
"Well, you got me!
"I’m not here anymore, and my house is filled with an incredible array of illusions to discourage the curious. But you just had to break in. I respect your gumption and assume you’re either a petty burglar or someone looking into Eylysia’s affairs.
"I’ve left Absalom to look for my friend, for she’s been missing for some time; however, I’ve attached the name of a particular Pathfinder you’ll want to investigate at the Wall of Names at the Society Grand Lodge. I assure you, it’s quite important, but I’ll leave you to figure out why.
"Oh, and the password. It’s ‘Wiffle.’ You’ll find it important, should you learn where to use it.
"—The Illustrious Fimbrik"
Underneath the letter is a small scrap of paper with the name "Karina Clamp" inscribed on it. (Recall that this is one of the three names that Elyssyia had inscribed on the Wall of Names that Adolphus said were "false Pathfinders".)
Lulwa "Lulu" al Qaisi |
"So, we know which of the three names to choose. I assume we...speak? write? the password at the wall? And I do wonder where Fimbrik went..."
Lulu eyes the telescope with interest. "What a fascinating place," she says wistfully. "One day I should like to have a home like this." She shakes her head. "Onward to the Wall of Names, then?"
Soumral Arlindil |
When she hears the others talking about their find, Soumral goes to join them. Looking over the letter, she asks "How old do you think this letter is?"
Muroi I |
While leaving the house Muroi was thinking: I expected more from this gnome. Well...
"Guys, we should keep going to that famous Wall of Names at the Society Grand Lodge. Everything points there."
Soumral Arlindil |
"Yes, on to the Wall of Names. Is it not a memorial where the names of killed Pathfinder agents are inscribed?"
