Marcus successfully pulls down the struggling smuggler's pants, wreaking a clothing conundrum. The smuggler shrieks in embarrassment.
You've got Improved Dirty Trick, Marcus. You're all good.
The two other smugglers stay aboard their ship. One fires a crossbow at the reeling Lovissa as she scrubs at her eyes to remove the sand.
Ranged Attack on Lovissa, Partial Cover, Target Blinded: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 2 = 41d8 ⇒ 6 MISS!
Round 2!
Gray Maiden, it is your turn!

Almost in combat!
Stepping out from the tunnel and into the fray beside Marcus, the Maiden stands in a combat position with her weapons drawn. She speaks to the smugglers in a cold, monotonous, dead tone.
"This is your one and only warning. Drop your weapons or I will kill you."
Demoralization Intimidate: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
Targeting the Smuggler in front of Lovissa.

"Watch Out!" Badriyah shouts out to warn those near the tunnel entrance. "There's something else moving around out there behind the crate. Just caught a glimpse of it but it looked like a big dog or something."
Sling Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 4 = 1
She then steps up and whirls a bullet from her sling only to watch it fly over everyone's head and eventually land somewhere out in the river with a quiet kerplunk.

![]() |

Badriyah, we'll have that action occur on your turn in Initiative.
The Gray Maiden makes eye contact with the uninjured rapier-wielding smuggler. She notes the tip of his sword quivering in his grip after her words.
"Blast!" the entangled smuggler curses as he hops to the side (out of the doorway) and pulls a potion from his pockets to drink.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Lady Finley and Giovanni may act! Lovissa, you may act as well, but you are still blinded.
Badriyah shouts a word of warning and fires a sling bullet at no one in particular.

Lovissa reaches into her belt pouch and pulls out an ancient jade figurine of an angelic being. Holding it in her hands she draws out the shards of psychic power she'd stored in the object, mixing it with the statuettes own historic psychic impressions.
The statuette glows for a moment and a celestial eagle materializes in the air before Lovissa. It swoops forward and attacks the nearest enemy it sees, raking it's talons across the smuggler's face.
Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4
Lovissa draws her conjuration implement as a move action and uses her Servitor ability as a standard action. Servitor functions as summon monster I with a duration of one minute (and is a standard action instead of a full-round action). She summons a celestial eagle within arm's reach which immediately moves to attack her nearest enemy, as per the summon monster spell.

Giovanni draws his bow again and fires across the door at one of the smugglers.

Which one do you want to attack, Lovissa? Left or right?
Giovanni, you have a line of sight on the left smuggler only.
Giovanni's arrow plunks one of the smugglers in the shoulder.

Right!

Note for both allies and enemies: The effect of a dirty trick may be removed by spending a move action. As much as I'd love the good to permanently remain pantsless, he can spend a move action to pull up his pants.

I have a Gnome Unchained Summoner who uses Dirty Trick himself when he fights (Doesn't have Improved Dirty Trick, because Extra Evolution, but does have +7 for it) and he uses a Longspear. Hitting them with a Dirty Trick to blind at reach and then 5-Foot stepping back is one of my favorite tactics, because then they have to choose between fighting back or unblinding themselves, can't do both.
Dirty Trick is just really fun to play.

The eagle successfully rakes the pantsed smuggler in the face. He cries out in pain.
Lady Finley, it is your turn!

![]() |

The quivering smuggler reacts to the eagle popping out of nowhere and clawing his friend by attacking it in a panic.

The eagle, skewered by the smuggler at its flank, pops out of existence.
Marcus, it is your turn!

![]() |

Marcus at this point is fuming. "Ok... make up your Zon-Kuthon damned minds! Is this a duel of blades, a duel of disrobing, a duel of fisticuffs?"
He lets out a growl, then steps forward and bites down hard on the thug's arm and pulls him hard into the wall.
Controlled Rage for +4 STR, using Reckless Abandon for +1 Attack and -1 AC, 5 ft step forward, bite with nonlethal penalty.

"How about I change the rules then? Biting duel! Let's see how you like that! Well, ready to yield yet?"
He appears to be in a full-on temper tantrum.

![]() |

I’ll assume that Marcus is attacking the smuggler that he pantsed previously.
Marcus gnashes his teeth and bites the harried smuggler. The smuggler’s eyes roll up in the back of his head and he goes down.

![]() |

My bad, yes, that's what I intended.

![]() |

Lovissa, you are no longer blinded.
The kitsune bites one of the smugglers into submission. As he does so, the two smugglers on the ship continue to fire on the group. One of the smugglers, firing her bow twice, says in a strangely-accented voice: "I accept your challenge of a biting duel. Hypatria here will fight in my place."
Suddenly, a huge centipede crawls out of the wall behind Lovissa, its mandibles clacking together as it stands up on its erect thorax and bites at the occultist. At the same time, a lumbering hippopotamus rushes forward over the prone form of the unconscious smuggler towards Marcus. Its jaw opens wide...

Melee Attack on Marcus: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4 MISS!
Multiple arrows streak toward the kitsune but only one finds a mark. The hippo's jaws close inches away from Marcus' leg. The centipede bites down on Lovissa's arm and despite a few initial paresthesias, the occultist feels no further taint to her wound.
Round 3!
Gray Maiden, Lovissa, Giovanni, Badriyah, and Lady Finley may join in the fray! Please check the map to ensure line-of-sight and positioning.

Giovanni carefully drops his bow and circles to flank the centipede with a newly drawn rapier.
rapier: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 2 = 131d6 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (5) + 1 + (4) = 10

EDITED: Fair enough, Giovanni. No AoO, but thanks for letting me know how you were planning on moving into position.
Giovanni unsheathes his rapier and moves into a flanking position through his two allies. His rapier fails to puncture the centipede's chitinous hide.
Gray Maiden, Lovissa, Badriyah, and Lady Finley still may act!

Badriyah steps forward to get a better look at the smugglers coming off of the barge. Seeing a clear shot she whips her sling around to send a stone flying toward the culprit.
Move forward 10 feet and attack 1st smuggler coming off the barge.
Sling attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (14) + 2 = 16

![]() |

Neither seem to be coming off the barge at present, Badriyah. Do you want to hold your attack until they do, or fire at one of them? Please indicate your target if you do.

![]() |

Badriyah's aim seems true, but at the last moment, she has to make an adjustment for her allies fighting in front of her. Her sling bullet flies just wide of the smuggler.
Gray Maiden, Lovissa, and Lady Finley still may act!

![]() |

Blinking the sand out of here eyes, Lovissa looks at the beast that bit her--a fierce insect! She swings her sword straight for its head.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 2 + 1 = 7
Hearing loud breathing behind her, Lovissa turns to see a fierce beast attacking Marcus!
"Ha! A worthy opponent! Your head will decorate my mantle alongside the Minotaur!"

![]() |

Lovissa hacks through the centipede, cleaving it in twain. As it falls, the creature snuffs out of existence.
Gray Maiden and Lady Finley may act!

Lady Finley fires her crossbow at the smuggler to the left. The one right next to the boat.
Then she reloads not moving.

Lady Finley's shot just misses the smuggler as she tries to thread the maze of flailing foes and allies in front of her.
Gray Maiden, you're up!

With the wall of people And creatures before her, The Maiden ducks low and moves past Marcus and the Hippo, attempting to avoid its attack as she sets up a better position.
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (1) - 6 = -5
I have an odd feeling I'm going to trigger an AoO.
After moving into position, she thrusts her sword forward at the beast, pivoting her hip and driving the blade deep.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
I don't believe Dead Bodies inhabit the field of play, so she's currently occupying the square where the first smuggler died.

![]() |

As the Gray Maiden moves through the doorway, the hippo and the other smuggler attack!
AoO #1 on Gray Maiden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 91d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8 MISS!
AoO #2 on Gray Maiden: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 101d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 MISS!
Both attacks miss wildly, and as she lands, the Gray Maiden skewers the side of the hippopotamus, causing it to squeal loudly.
"Hypatria!" the female smuggler cries out.
Since it worked once, the smuggler nearest Marcus decides to scoop up a handful of sand again and toss it in the kitsune's face.
Dirty Trick Combat Manoeuvre: 1d20 + 5 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 - 2 = 16 FAIL!
Marcus knows that dirty trick, however, and averts his face as the sand rains down on him.
Marcus, it is your turn!

"YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF DISHONORABLE LOUTS! I do believe I have given you all manners of flexibility in dueling styles yet you will not abide by YOUR OWN SUGGESTIONS!"
Spittle coming out of his mouth, Marcus adopts a classic fisticuffs pose and punches the Hippo in the face.
Using Unarmed Strike. Would provoke from the thug except for the cover.
Attack: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 6 + 1 = 11 Yeah... probably not hitting with that.
Nonlethal: 1d4 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
With that he takes a step back to nurse his wounds and fume. "Someone FETCH ME MY BLADE!"
Full disclosure: Marcus is going to continue to be a brat. Feel free to not give him his blade. Giving him his blade would make no tactical sense and I, the player, will not feel one bit upset if you deny me my blade. But vulpine hissy fit must ensue.

The smuggler doesn't get an AoO, but the hippo does.
Marcus attempts to punch the hippo in the face. The moaning hippo responds with a chomp.

The hippo chomps down on Marcus' fist as it glances off the beast's thick hide.
In the meantime, one of the archers backs up and fires two shots at the armoured warrior while the other pulls a vial from his belt and lobs it at the Gray Maiden.

Ranged Touch Attack on Gray: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 201d6 ⇒ 3 HIT! - 3hp dmg, Gray
The arrows miss their mark, plinking off Gray's armour, but the acid hits. A further yelp from the hippo indicates that she felt the sting as well, and the hippo attempts to roll away from her armoured foe and escape.
Acrobatic Check to avoid AoO: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19 SUCCESS!
The hippo avoids Gray Maiden's vengeance and runs away from combat through her smuggler companion, splashing into the water.

Round 4!
One smuggler lies unconscious at Gray Maiden's feet. The hippo has run off; both the eagle and the centipede have been dispatched. Three smugglers remain, all glaring at the Gray Maiden.
Gray Maiden, it is your turn! Also, Lovissa, Badriyah, Giovanni, and Lady Finley may act!

Yup. I figured one AoO was an acceptable risk to avoid outright murdering the lot of em. Two was just pushing it.

Looking around at the group of foes glaring at her, a cool, collected voice rattles out from the helm. The tone is quiet and dangerous.
"Surrender if you want to survive. Die if you will fight."
Without waiting to see what those aboard the ship have to say, The Maiden takes a short step forward to the nearest smuggler, her Longsword still dripping fresh blood. "What will it be? Live or die?"
Assuming the thug doesn't surrender, if he does however ignore this part.
"You've made your decision."
With a flash of glinting steel she brings her sword down in a sudden overhead arc, her blade angled to cut from shoulder to abdomen.

Marcus continues to rant, sending bits of spittle out in all directions.
"At least the hippo is smart enough to yield once clearly outmatched! I'd say the beast is the MOST honorable of you lot! I don't know if you're overconfident or stupid, but you engage in a duel via lethal means and DON'T EVEN HAVE THE FORESIGHT TO DESIGNATE A SECOND?"

Lady Finley moves forward to get a better look at the enemies. "Why do you want your blade? You are doing just fine with your fists." Lady Finley says to Marcus. She fires at the enemy straight ahead of her.

With a quick glance at the bloodied blades of the Maiden and Lovissa, she turns back to the remaining smugglers. "If you hand over the helm and tell us how you came by it you might walk away. If not...well I guess the fish will eat well tonight."
She grins wickedly and then fires another bullet, this time at the other smuggler not wearing the helm.

Lady Finley's bolt flies wide of the smuggler wearing the old helm as the sling bullet from Badriyah takes the other smuggler in the face, bloodying his nose. More importantly, Badriyah's words of parlay finally seem to sink in. Both smugglers put up their hands in surrender.
COMBAT ENDED!
"We don't want to die; we yield." the smugglers say.
"You can have the helm," the female smuggler offers, pulling the old relic free to reveal her pug-nosed face, "I received it as payment for our shipment a fortnight past, same as these fellows received their studded leather. That's our drop point, back in those tunnels there, and that's where I found this last week. We used to have a fence when we first started our business - they were the one who got us these tunnels to use, but I never got a name or a look at his face, and we haven't seen his hide in months. Payments still arrive on time, though."

"YOU DON'T WANT TO D-" Marcus's eyes go wide, then he grins. "Hah! You DO..." He breaths heavily. "... have brains."
He pants as he strives to catch his breath. "I accept your surrender. Tend to your wounded. Hippo included."
If anyone wishes to rebuke Marcus be my guest. I however am quite happy to let them patch up.

When the smugglers surrender, the Maiden immediately sheathes her blade. Now with combat over she goes over to the crate and opens the lid, inspecting its contents. "How does your contact pay you?" Face to face? A drop point?"
