You can't aid a disable device to pick a lock, FYI.

Badriyah successfully pops the lock on the door, and the two slowly open the door together.

DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!

A loud alarm bell, audible both inside and outside of the chandlery, rings freely. No one immediately appears within the back room.

The back office is decorated with a nautical theme. A shelf along the south wall holds a collection of ships in bottles and other sailing collectables decorated in the Taldor’s blue and green shades. A desk stands in the middle of the room on top of which rests a glass-fronted shadow box containing a shattered shield. Multiple paintings depicting Taldan naval battles and historical scenes from the Shining Crusade line the walls.

You now must go in initiative as your time in the back office is - obviously - severely limited. Those who don't roll initiative I'll assume are frozen with panic.

Her satisfied smile at the sound of the opening lock, quickly turns to panicked fear when the alarm sounds. Nearly dropping the pin she spends an extra few precious seconds fumbling to get it tucked into a pouch while stepping through the door. Wide eyed, she frantically looks around the room to try and find the wall safe or the source of the alarm.

GM roll:

Lady Finley, I'm moving you inside the back room of the chandlery on the map.

DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!

Initiative Order:
  • Lady Finley
  • Giovanni
  • Marcus
  • Badriyah
  • The alarm sets everyone on edge as Lady Finley, Giovanni, Marcus, and Badriyah spill into the backroom and cast their eyes about, hunting for signs of the elusive safe.

    Lady Finley:
On the table in the centre of the room beside the glass case bearing the broken shield rests a small statuette of a sea lion balancing what appears to be a pearl on its nose. The pearl appears to be more than a simple gem - you think you see arcane markings etched on it.

    Giovanni:
Amongst the numerous paintings on the walls, you spy a work on the western wall that depicts two Taldan ships at anchor while a landing party of armoured soldiers pulls a boat onto a beach and an over-dressed Taldan nobleman plants a flag in the sand. The over-dressed Taldan noble in the painting bears a curious likeness to Earl Vernisant.

    Marcus:
The only other door to this room is in the far eastern wall. There are no windows in the room. The shield in the shadow box is an obvious replica of the Shield of Aroden.

Just before Badriyah is able to act, a small ship in a bottle on the table nearest to your group rotates slightly as the poorly-disguised grippli moves into the room. In slow motion (as it would seem to Badriyah), she can see the tiny ballista inside the glass bottle retract and then fire directly at Lady Finley, shattering the bottle in spray of shards that pierce the presently-gathered Pathfinder force.

I'm ruling that Lady Finley is surprised - and flat-footed - at the attack, even though you're already in initiative. The initiative is more a time-keeping device, and none of you were expecting an attack from a ship in a bottle.

    Ranged Attack on Lady Finley, Flat-Footed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 HIT! - 4 hp bludgeoning dmg, Lady Finley
    Reflex Saves: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 151d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 Lady Finley - SUCCESS!; Giovanni - FAIL!; Marcus - FAIL!; Badriyah - FAIL!
Shatter Spray special attack dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Lady Finley - 2 hp piercing dmg; Giovanni - 4 hp piercing dmg; Marcus - 4 hp piercing dmg; Badriyah - 4 hp piercing dmg

As I mentioned earlier, "those who don't roll initiative I'll assume are frozen with panic". I have reached out to Amelia privately, and Lovissa hasn't posted in about 18hrs. Wall safe in orange on the map.

Giovanni moves to the desk that the flying ship previously sat upon, tears open a drawer and begins rifling through papers.

    Giovanni:
You are not spying anything of use.

Lady Finley and Marcus may act!

Lady Finley tired of being shot at tries something a little odd. She moves up and tries to grab the small ship out of the air. She misses terribly.

    CMB: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

    Sovereign Court

    Male Kitsune Barbarian 6 | N | HP 20/59-6, AC 19 (-2 while raging, +1 while next to 2 foes), T 12, FF 17 | F: +8-1, R: +5, W: 2 | CMD 20 (24 vs Dirty Trick) | Perc -1 | Init +2 | Rage 16/16

Marcus moves around to flank with Lady Finley ducking and weaving as he complains. "It's a tiny flying boat! What an I going to sink it into... A teacup?"

    Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 8 + 2 = 15
    Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10

Marcus swings his sword, knocking the boat out of Lady Finley's grasp and into a broken heap of wood on the floor.

    COMBAT END!

    DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!

We're still in initiative order, however...Badriyah and Lovissa may act!

"Why aren't you at the safe, Giovanni?" she asks over the alarm.

Lovissa dashes over to the safe and tries her hand at picking it, despite its complexity.

    Disable Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Safe to say she fails. Haha.

EDIT: Actually, that probably takes me two rounds. Sorry. Move action to get to the safe and another move to pull out her tools. Next round will be picking the lock.

    Sovereign Court

    Human Rogue (unchained, Investigator) 5 | HP 33 | AC 21/14/17 | F+2 R+8 W +1 | Init +4 | Perc +10 (+11 Danger Sense) | Active Conditions: Heightened Awareness, Evasion, Feather fall (1/day)

We need the combination. Help me look for it. Our tools won’t do it. Giovanni keeps searching for clues.

    Scarab Sages

    Female Keleshite Alchemist 2 | HP: 13/13 | Init: +2 | Per: +5 | AC: 15/13/12 | F: +2 | R: +5 | W: +1 | CMD: 11

With the ship no longer protecting the other desk, Badriyah searches it for the combination or any other information useful to their investigation.

    Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7

Unable to really find anything quickly, she slips the pearl back into her hand. "I wonder if this has something to do with the safe or that blasted alarm?" She says, seeing if there is a way to activate the stored spell.

    Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

Lovissa, to be fair, we'll keep your Disable Device roll for this next round. Badriyah, your search is this round; you can try to activate the pearl next round.

Lovissa moves to the wall safe and draws her lockpicks while Badriyah rifles through another desk fruitlessly.

    Round 6!

  • Lady Finley
  • Giovanni
  • Marcus

Landy Finley looks around the room for four numbers. "Hurry. Why didn't anyone say something about the code before. At least that thing isn't shooting at me anymore."

That time someone said something about the code ;)

Think, Giovanni. He's a narcissist with delusions of grandeur. Where would he hide his code? Giovanni tries to put himself in the Earl's mindset to diving the code's location.

    diplomacy: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29 Looking for a creative solution to understand where he might have hid the code.

Holy smokes i hope that roll counts for something :)

    Giovanni:
You have a flash of insight. 'Four digits' would easily equate with a year. The earl might be narcissistic, but he is realistic - he knows his power derives from the heroic legend of his long-dead relative, General Arnisant. Perhaps an important year in reference to General Arnisant's life.....or death....might be the combination.

    Lady Finley:
You don't find anything more interesting than what you've already found.

    [bigger]DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG![/bigger

Badriyah fiddles with the pearl taken from the centre table as the group searches and thinks frantically.

    Badriyah:
As you've not cast any 1st level spells today, the pearl of power doesn't do anything for you, though you're sure you activated it properly.

    [ooc]Marcus and Lovissa may act!
