You can't aid a disable device to pick a lock, FYI.
Badriyah successfully pops the lock on the door, and the two slowly open the door together.
DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!
A loud alarm bell, audible both inside and outside of the chandlery, rings freely. No one immediately appears within the back room.
The back office is decorated with a nautical theme. A shelf along the south wall holds a collection of ships in bottles and other sailing collectables decorated in the Taldor’s blue and green shades. A desk stands in the middle of the room on top of which rests a glass-fronted shadow box containing a shattered shield. Multiple paintings depicting Taldan naval battles and historical scenes from the Shining Crusade line the walls.
You now must go in initiative as your time in the back office is - obviously - severely limited. Those who don't roll initiative I'll assume are frozen with panic.

![]() |

Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Her satisfied smile at the sound of the opening lock, quickly turns to panicked fear when the alarm sounds. Nearly dropping the pin she spends an extra few precious seconds fumbling to get it tucked into a pouch while stepping through the door. Wide eyed, she frantically looks around the room to try and find the wall safe or the source of the alarm.

Damnit. Everyone inside. Giovanni looks around and sees an empty Chandlery. If you're not disguised, get in the office and help crack that safe. I'll buy us time if guards come.
Giovanni looks round for reachable windows.

![]() |

init: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
"Bah! Giovanni, your skills will be needed at the safe. Those who can crack a safe should get to work quickly. The rest should hunt for a written combination. If it comes to deflecting guards perhaps I'll use a bit of chicanery that kitsune are known for."

![]() |

Fine. Just buy us some time. Giovanni jogs it into the office. I'll work on the safe, someone find the damn combination.
Disable Device to open safe: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (17) + 8 = 25

![]() |

Giovanni, please give me a separate Perception roll.
No safe is visible upon cursory glance of the room as the group rushes in.
Awaiting Lady Finley, Amelia, and Lovissa before advancing initiative.

![]() |

Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Lady Finley looks around for interesting documents, and any secreted things outside of the safe. "Hurry."

![]() |

Lady Finley, I'm moving you inside the back room of the chandlery on the map.
DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!
The alarm sets everyone on edge as Lady Finley, Giovanni, Marcus, and Badriyah spill into the backroom and cast their eyes about, hunting for signs of the elusive safe.
Just before Badriyah is able to act, a small ship in a bottle on the table nearest to your group rotates slightly as the poorly-disguised grippli moves into the room. In slow motion (as it would seem to Badriyah), she can see the tiny ballista inside the glass bottle retract and then fire directly at Lady Finley, shattering the bottle in spray of shards that pierce the presently-gathered Pathfinder force.
I'm ruling that Lady Finley is surprised - and flat-footed - at the attack, even though you're already in initiative. The initiative is more a time-keeping device, and none of you were expecting an attack from a ship in a bottle.
Ranged Attack on Lady Finley, Flat-Footed: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 131d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 HIT! - 4 hp bludgeoning dmg, Lady Finley

Shatter Spray special attack dmg: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Lady Finley - 2 hp piercing dmg; Giovanni - 4 hp piercing dmg; Marcus - 4 hp piercing dmg; Badriyah - 4 hp piercing dmg
Round 2!
The tiny ship levitates from the table and rotates to aim the tip of its prow at the reeling grippli.
Lady Finley, Giovanni, and Marcus may act!

![]() |

Blast! Knock that ship out of the air, I need to get to the safe! Giovanni darts over to the suspicious looking painting and rips it off the wall.

![]() |

Did we lose Amelia? Also if we're in combat rounds now I think Lovissa needs to be added to the initiative whether she took any action leading into this or not.

![]() |

As I mentioned earlier, "those who don't roll initiative I'll assume are frozen with panic". I have reached out to Amelia privately, and Lovissa hasn't posted in about 18hrs. You can ask Lovissa to come inside, but she's a martial character, not an intrigue/safecracking character, so she would assume her best place to be would be outside unless otherwise notified.

![]() |

Sorry for the delay. Yesterday turned out to be crazy.
Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Hearing the commotion inside, Lovissa storms into the room, leaving her post outside, and looks around for the source of the minor explosion with her longsword in hand.
"What's going on in here?!" she asks.
Perception: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Seeing a strange floating ship she exclaims, "Ah-hah! A delightful guardian!"
Not trying to take any more actions right now since I missed this first round. But entering the room if I can.
Hey! I can crack a safe! Haha.

![]() |

Seeing Giovanni head for the same picture she had spotted, Badriyah draws her sickle and does her best to knock the magicked model out of the air or at least disrupt its aim. At the same time, her eyes frantically look around for a tapestry, loose rug, or other large piece of heavy cloth that she could grab easily.
Sickle Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
Damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 5

"There's a pearl on that seal with some kind of arcane marks. I don't have the knowledge to know what it is, but a magical person should check it out." She steps back drawing her crossbow and loads it.

![]() |

Still awaiting actions from Lady Finley and Marcus. Badriyah, your action takes place after the ship, as does Lovissa's entry.

![]() |

Marcus nearly panics at the sight of the hovering ship, and quickly draws his sword, spits out a curse, and slashes upward in a classic rising vertical strike. While it technically meets the criteria for the cut, it is very clearly done in an incredibly ham-fisted frustrated manner rather than with the elegance and grace of a trained duelist.
Move: Draw weapon, Free: Rage for +4 Str w/ Reckless Abandon and 5-ft step, Standard: Attack
"What a stupid defense! Too poor to employ proper guards and has to resort to a child's toy?"

DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!
The tiny ship, the name The Precursor emblazoned on its prow, moves back a wee bit in the room and fires again at its main target, Lady Finley!
Ranged Attack on Lady Finley: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 91d3 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
The shot flies wide as the alarm blares on. Lovissa comes into the room (I moved you on the map) as Badriyah slashes at the ship, though she notes her sickle does far less damage than she thinks her blow should have done.
Round 3!
Lady Finley, Giovanni, and Marcus may act!

![]() |

Giovanni rips off the painting, revealing bare wooden labelling underneath.
Something you’d like to do this round?

![]() |

Thanks!

as Badriyah slashes at the ship, though she notes her sickle does far less damage than she thinks her blow should have done.
"The ship may be protected. I'm not much of a sword swinger, but I should have done more to it with that last blow." She shouts out. Hearing Lady Finley's warning about the pearl, she ducks and dodges over to the table to get a closer look at the pearl and its arcane markings.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

We need to find this safe and get out. We're running out of time. Giovanni moves across the room searching for a safe.

Lady Finley lets a bolt fly at the flying ship. She then reloads. Hurry find that safe.

Giovanni scans the wall behind the painting that he's ripped off, and is just about to move away when he spies a sliding wooden wall panel. Sliding the wall panel to the side...
...he finds another painting. This one is unmistakably of General Arnisant in Shining Crusade-era mail effortlessly fending off a pack of ghouls. Lady Finley in the meantime fires her crossbow at the floating ship, striking the Precursor but doing no discernible damage to it.
Awaiting Marcus' action.

![]() |

Did my previous attack hit? If so did it do full or partial damage?
Marcus completes his lousy display of swordplay with a horizontal cut, followed by a.... chomp? Where he learned his swordsmanship is a mystery to say the least.
"The Precursor? Pffft! I call thee Boaty McBoatface!"

Apologies, Marcus. Your last attack did indeed do some damage to the ship, though not as much as you would've thought. Giovanni, I moved you back on the map to where you're investigating. We'll use your actions above in the next initiative round.
DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!
Marcus, slashing successfully at the ship previously, attempts a further parry, but misses the tiny construct. Gnashing with his teeth instead, the unorthodox duelist connects with the ship, but his bite only meets firm fortified wood, leaving him sore gums and a puzzled look on his face. It's at that moment that the ship fires its ballistae again at Lady Finley, a singular focus to its purpose.
GM roll: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
Ranged Attack on Lady Finley: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (14) + 6 = 201d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 HIT! - 4 hp dmg, Lady Finley
The Precursor successfully fires on Lady Finley again while Badriyah examines the lustrous pearl more closely and the alarm rages on.
Only 18 seconds have passed since the alarm first started, FYI. Lovissa, you may act!

![]() |

Seeing the tiny ship blasting her companions, Lovissa stalks over to it and swings her longsword.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 4 + 1 = 18
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 2 + 1 = 9

DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG! DA-DONG!
Lovissa brings her longsword down savagely on the ship, shearing off a chunk of the prow, but not doing as much damage to it as she thinks she rightly should have.
Round 4!
Giovanni pulls up the painting of the venerated General Arnisant and spies a wall safe underneath. It's at that point that everyone in the room (and Amelia as well, I'm assuming, wherever she is) hear the sound of a signal whistle blast three times in the night air over the klaxons of the alarm bell.
The cavalry has been called for...(evil chuckle)...
Lady Finley and Marcus may act!

![]() |

Lady Finley loads and fires her crossbow again. "The guards are on their way. We need to get out of here. Have you found anything yet?"

Four-digit combination. I can try to crack it with my tools but I'd wager that would take me too long. We need the combo. Sink that ship and help me find it.
Giovanni goes to the desk and looks for secret drawers or compartments.

Badriyah snatches the pearl from its resting place and slips it in her pocket. She frantically searches the desk for a few seconds, grabbing any papers, journals, ledgers, or anything else that might contain some information of interest. Knowing she is running out of time, she finally grabs the fragments of the shield, not thinking twice about shattering the glass of the shadowbox. With the shield pieces secured, she dashes for the door taking a quick look to see if anyone is in sight before moving back into the alley.
"Come on." She shouts. "We've no time left. Have to find another way or try again."

Marcus cuts through a few more inches of wood and fabric, but still the boat presses the gang and fires on Lady Finley after shifting a few feet to the side!
Lovissa, you may take an AoO on the ship!
Ranged Attack on Lady Finley: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 71d3 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 MISS!
The ship misses and Lovissa comes up swinging as Badriyah snatches the pearl from the table top and dashes to the desk on the far side of the room to search for paperwork.
Lovissa, you may act after your AoO!

"Ha-ha! You are a fierce toy!" Lovissa exclaims, clearly impressed with its craftsmanship.
If it's still flying, Lovissa attacks again:
Attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 4 + 1 = 12
Damage: 1d8 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 2 + 1 = 10

![]() |

Only a natural roll of 19 or 20 would threaten a critical, FYI.
Lovissa connects with the 'flying toy' but her sword glances off the side of it, inflicting no damage on the thing. Her second attack misses wide.
Round 5!
"Four-digit combination. I can try to crack it with my tools but I'd wager that would take me too long. We need the combo. Sink that ship and help me find it."
Wall safe in orange on the map.
Giovanni moves to the desk that the flying ship previously sat upon, tears open a drawer and begins rifling through papers.
Lady Finley and Marcus may act!

"Why aren't you at the safe, Giovanni?" she asks over the alarm.
Lovissa dashes over to the safe and tries her hand at picking it, despite its complexity.

Safe to say she fails. Haha.
EDIT: Actually, that probably takes me two rounds. Sorry. Move action to get to the safe and another move to pull out her tools. Next round will be picking the lock.

With the ship no longer protecting the other desk, Badriyah searches it for the combination or any other information useful to their investigation.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
Unable to really find anything quickly, she slips the pearl back into her hand. "I wonder if this has something to do with the safe or that blasted alarm?" She says, seeing if there is a way to activate the stored spell.
Use Magic Device: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

![]() |

Lovissa, to be fair, we'll keep your Disable Device roll for this next round. Badriyah, your search is this round; you can try to activate the pearl next round.
Lovissa moves to the wall safe and draws her lockpicks while Badriyah rifles through another desk fruitlessly.
Round 6!
