What age category would you like me to use for this custom race?

Liberty's Edge

Not to speak for the DM but tor those wondering about the learning center ...

This^ implies that you can take a bit of liberty with your background so long as it fits the theme of the game and the intro provided in the 1st post.

Thanks! Much appreciated. I had specific reasons in mind for asking since I am making an experiment. This is factoring in to the backstory a lot. It was the way my creativity took me. :)

Thanks, Flashohol, I just offer details when asked.

@GMV: I'd probably use the ages listed for vishkanya here.

Liberty's Edge

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Players are supposed to help build and shape the world so I figured I'd try and nudge people in the right direction early, and save the GM some hassle with the 'little things'

@Gmv could I see that race build I'm interested in seeing what it can do

Sure! Sent you a PM.

Oh alright! Just this once. :P

Done.

Well, you certainly got popular, GMV :)

True that. I think it has to do with so many GMs not allowing custom races. I saw this game and leaped at the chance. I have been wanting to make a race based on that picture so much. And here we are!

I'm also not one for building races so I like to see what people come up with when they do it.

Added a little to include the Lohnen lore you posted GM Dust.

Good luck to everyone.

@GMV - Sharn awaits for Tarragon and Glaive.

That it does. I will finish up some things and be right over.

Shadow Lodge

Still room for more interest GM Dust?

I'm thinking of building a race, and you mention 16 RP max, would there be any issue with spending 8 RP (maybe more) to get dimensional door at will? The race building guide only allows 3rd level at wills at the highest, and having dimensional door at will is really the only way to get the dimensional agility line of feats to work if the range of dimensional door is too high, I would have no problem with reducing it, even as far down to say 25 feet + 15 feet per 4 levels (so 100 feet at level 20), or even 5 feet/level (which is again 100 feet at level 20), as long as the character could take the Dimensional Agility line of feats.

If you are familiar with X-men, the idea would be similar to Nightcrawler, and probably be a rogue.

Liberty's Edge

A teleportation wizard can do it plenty of times per day as a swift action so lowering it down to close range or lower isn't that OP.

Right, it just needs to be a (Sp) rather then a (Su) so that it allows access to the Dimensional Agility line.

I'm thinking you'd better be prepared for having dealt with some pretty harsh lockdown restrictions once it's known you can teleport.

I feel like the school would've cast Dimensional Anchor on you anytime your not in the practice area

Wow, I don't even need to answer questions anymore :)

Put something together, Dylos. I've only received 3 complete characters.

@Dr. Gideon: You plagiarized my intro for your backstory and even failed to make changes at the end. I think that speaks volumes.

I have the background done. I am beginning to select equipment at this stage.

Also, I don't know what to name the race. I am trying to avoid over-the-top and cheesy names, while choosing something that is descriptive yet cool. Basically trying to balance it between cool and realistic.

Ideas anyone?

Liberty's Edge

Raubtier - German for Predator.

Teiidae? Scientific name for whiptail lizards.

Yes I was going to say somehing predator-like. Though if you are not a race per se, but an experiment then a common word applied by your creators like Raubtier might work.

Spined One.

Scalus.

GM Dust wrote:

There is a poster on the boards by that name. Shares my love of Lizardfolk. Now I know why he/she uses that name!

The funny things that are stumbled upon, heh.

Shadow Lodge

As far as languages go, you said Lohnen is a free language, does this replace common?

Liberty's Edge

It sounds like it's a regional language, but I don't know.

Raubtier sounds cool. I'll take 3.

The character was simple to choose gear for, she uses her claws and bite for the most part.

And I have finished. I present Amara Nacht, a Raubtier Slayer.

If I missed anything I will rectify it as soon as I can. Tired today and it was hot too. Like almost 100 degrees fahrenheit.

Nice one GMV, small, sleek and deadly. Plus madchen Night can sleep in her leathers. ;)

Yup. I tend to forget that about endurance. I chose it to represent the racial hardiness actually.

Yes, it was my draft that I'm continuing to rewrite. With such a specific background, I put it as the skeleton to start individualizing.

However, you're reaction and club-like environment here make me believe that there is no point in my submission.

So have fun in your game.

Hopefully third concept is the charm. Please accept Jubal's submission: Dr. Gideon Renselaer - Alchemist (Chirurcheon & Crypt Breaker). He is very intelligent and disarmingly charming. His excellence in alchemy and healing almost matches his bedside manner.

And you missed GM Dust's point entirely. In your post you never mentioned anything at all about it being a draft. Your post is quoted for clarity here. You submitted a complete character. So the fault is your own. May you have better luck making future characters of higher quality.

Lohnen is regional and doesn't replace Common. It'll come into play later.

@GMV: Thank you.

Shadow Lodge

Is there any problem with the race I'm making being an Aberration? Also, I'm contemplating it having 4 arms, though two of the arms would be substantially smaller (like a T-rex's arms) and unable to really do anything in combat, though the race builder doesn't really allow for this type of option.

Liberty's Edge

I think it would depend on what you plan to use the arms for.

There is the Trox race you can look at for inspiration, but keep in mind the limits I've set.

Shadow Lodge

Flashohol wrote:

Probably about as much as a T-rex uses their arms, they wouldn't be used at all, perhaps they were useful for something earlier on in their evolutionary line but they are now more or less vestigial. I don't plan on gaining any sort of mechanical benefit from the extra arms, they are just there. I could scratch the idea, but I'm mainly trying to play with the aberration type as they are described as having bizarre anatomies, strange abilities, alien mindsets, or any combination of the three.

EDIT: If I were to give them a mechanical advantage, I'd say they would allow the character to wield two additional weapons of the size diminutive, which would never threaten anything that wasn't in the same square. The race is currently small for reference.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Would certainly be useful for things like scrolls, wands, potions(if the can reach your mouth)while weilding a weapon.

Shadow Lodge

For now I'm just going to forget the extra arms, GM, sent you a PM.

Looking it over now.

Alrighty, as promised...here's Rose! Rosalina Luri, the Gun Slinging Tailor with a heart of gold....LOL. I tried to go for a darker character....but, I just couldn't do it. It's just not in my nature I guess. *sigh* Just think of her as like the Center's version of Little Orphan Annie...Lol, but don't expect me to sing.

@ Aneirin, Hey there again...just me. I just wanted to let you know that I used your character a bit in my backstory. I hope that's okay, I was trying to get a feel for her personality a bit and I thought that was the best way of doing it. So, I kinda dragged you and some of our more flavorful students into my story...just a bit. Oh, and also...she's gonna have a nickname for you...I was just wondering which one you would like better, Ani or Rin?

Haha. I read your background. Nice. Gives a few more edges to the tale. I'm sending you a PM on the name...

Thanks, like I said...I wanted to give it a bit of flare. It took me about 20 minutes early this morning to come up with her appearance and back story, so I wanted to make sure it didn't seem sloppy and that it made sense.

The Exchange

I want comments on my backstory. I just finished it up this morning and if anyone's willing to help (I'm creating a divine caster, in case you want to know if I'm stepping on your toes or not) I'd appreciate it. Let me know and I'll PM you.

@UT - I'll take a look if you want. I may not be able to provide much in the way of GM Dust's lore, but I can offer some critique… :)

As for the toe-stepping, personally I'm never worried about such things. I'm more concerned about cloned or clashing personalities than classes or party roles...

@UT I'd like to review it kinda bored at work

And feedback sent UT...
