Nienna fires at the undazed giant, her arrows striking him down. 42 dances up to one of the dazed giants and cuts it down, feeling its life ooze into him. Alden torments the dazed giant and boggard, who don't seem to hear him. Lavode's bralani manages to lightning bolt the giant in front of him! Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15, who twitches and tics, but does not fall... yet. Lastly Exiel eviscerates the boggard, who falls to the ground, a mere twitching thing that used to be a living soul.

The last giant is dispatched quickly before the dazing wears off, leaving a storeroom transformed into a charnel house.

Out of combat!

The crates and barrels prove to be filled with mouldering foodstuffs stocked here ago by the Way and lost to the ravages of time. The only door that remains lies to the north. Nienna thoroughly examines the door and opens it, revealing a submerged library. Water seeps through a thin, vertical crack that runs from the waterline of the north wall to the center of the ceiling in this tall flooded chamber. A stairway leads from the south door down into the dark waters that nearly fill this large library. Tall bookcases rise only inches above the waterline as they trace
the edge of the room, and a second set of wider shelves spiral about the room’s interior. Four algae-covered pillars support the ceiling above.

Two masked men, wearing the elongated masks you saw on the lookouts above, stand flanking a kneeling thin man who looks dazed and disoriented. The kneeling man matches the description King the kappa gave you of Hamade Sora, his flautist. The two masked men look in your direction but make no move to attack.

As always, Ralph goes invisible as soon as the previous combat is over, and is invisible well before the next door is opened.

"Of course, Lavode, I am perfectly aware that excessive application of arcane might at the wrong time and place can be devastatingly unproductive. I have...other means."

When he sees the flutist seemingly enchanted between the cultists, he quickly flies over into Hamada Sora's square. If he encounters opposition along the way (which should only happen if they can see invisible creatures), Ralph will cast emergency force sphere as an immediate action to protect himself. If he reaches Hamada Sora without incident, he will cast emergency force sphere to cover both himself and the flutist in the force sphere.

Bonekeep Slides

Ralph flies invisibly toward the form of Hamade Sora, who kneels, eyes unfocused, upon the bookshelf. Ralph can feel the hum of magic in this room, which seems focused on preserving the books from the ravages of time and moisture. However the magic is taxed by the presence of so much water here and seems to be humming almost with an audible tone as it fights to fulfill its purpose. Ralph hovers above Sora and activates his force sphere. The two masked figures are pushed roughly back by the sphere and raise their tridents to attack!

Creatures, even your enemies, can provide you with cover against ranged attacks, giving you a +4 bonus to AC. However, such soft cover provides no bonus on Reflex saves, nor does soft cover allow you to make a Stealth check.

In this case it was not a ranged attack, it is a melee attack.

Nienna races up the wall with her spidery climbing boots and casts a misty spell of obscuration! I put a fog cloud on the board and gave the players the ability to move it. Please place it where you want it.

42 resists the worst of the evil eying, and races up to line up his lightning bolt, but the squidzard lashes out as he casts! Tentacle!: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20, but he misses as his attention is drawn elsewhere! The lightning bolt goes off, but it hits the force sphere and the far cultist is saved! Reflex: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 The cultist in the line of the lightning takes the full brunt, twitching as he is hit!

Lord Rybos, the Squidzard, lets out a screech of anger at the loss of his wand and lashes out!

Bite vs Exiel: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (12) + 19 = 31 for 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4) + 5 = 11 damage!
Tentacle vs Lavode: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (4) + 19 = 23 for 4d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2) + 5 = 13 damage and a grab attempt if successful grab: 1d20 + 29 ⇒ (12) + 29 = 41 If the grab hits, it constricts for 4d6 + 15 ⇒ (2, 2, 5, 6) + 15 = 30 damage!

Lavode, Ralph and Exiel are up!

With smite evil up, Lord Rooibos pretty much needs a natural 20 to hit me. XD

will save: 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (13) + 20 = 33

Exiel easily shrugs off the worst of the hex, and what remains of its dark power barely puts a dent in the powerful divine protection that Torag has granted Exiel against his calamari adversary. Lord Rooibos might as well have been flailing at the air, for even his 3 mirror images remain unscathed! (AC is 42 vs Lord Squid even after the hex reduction. Bite my maximised CHA smited evil!)

With an easy grin, Exiel returns the favour!

Woop woop! 2 crits threats! Oh and btw, because Exiel is smiting, he ignores any DR Lord Calamari might have. ;))

It looks like it prefers melee, and is actually not bad at it. I'm happy to just blast it into orbit.

It looks like Rybos is partly submerged. Does this give it any reduced damage or save bonuses against a fireball? What about acid?

Reconsidered. On the off-chance Rybos has our MacGuffin, I don't want him teleporting or plane-shifting away.

Seeing that the battle is going well, Ralph decides to seal Rybos' fate.

Defensively cast dimensional anchor using arcane bonded headband, DC23: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (8) + 19 = 27
touch attack vs Rybos: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
caster level check if he has SR: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 Will use my reroll if this is not enough.

I still want to know whether the water gives him any advantages against a fireball, since I will be blasting him next round.

Exiel's full attack lands and penetrates the stony skin of the squidzard with holy ease but his katana does not seem to find a deep vein Missed the confirmation by 1! Strange inky blood spills into the water. Ralph casts a spell of anchoring, locking down any teleportation the squidzard might have.

Lavode is up! I'll research the water/fireball issue and post when I know.

Attacks from Land: Characters swimming, floating, or treading water on the surface, or wading in water at least chest deep, have improved cover (+8 bonus to AC, +4 bonus on Reflex saves) from opponents on land. Land-bound opponents who have freedom of movement effects ignore this cover when making melee attacks against targets in the water. A completely submerged creature has total cover against opponents on land unless those opponents have freedom of movement effects. Magical effects are unaffected except for those that require attack rolls (which are treated like any other effects) and fire effects.

Fire: Nonmagical fire (including alchemist's fire) does not burn underwater. Spells or spell-like effects with the fire descriptor are ineffective underwater unless the caster makes a caster level check (DC 20 + spell level). If the check succeeds, the spell creates a bubble of steam instead of its usual fiery effect, but otherwise the spell works as described. A supernatural fire effect is ineffective underwater unless its description states otherwise. The surface of a body of water blocks line of effect for any fire spell. If the caster has made the caster level check to make the fire spell usable underwater, the surface still blocks the spell's line of effect.

Lavode finds himself dragged into the water next to the squidzard! He does his best to break free, but the tentacle is too tight and when he tries to cast, it squeezes, breaking his concentration!

The masked men both cackle madly, extending the evil eye hex AC negatives another round. The masked man nearest to 42 throws a javelin at him! Alden is up for Round 2! Then Nienna and 42 are up for Round 3!

Unable to get within reach to help Lavode, Alden aids Exiel in the hopes of taking down the squid before it kills poor Lavode.

Umm...I think he already needs a natural 20 to hit me without Alden's help. My AC against Lord Calamari post-evil eye hex is 44 due to smite evil. Perhaps he could help 42 instead? XD

Either way, with another round of Exiel's full attack, Nienna sneak-full-attacking and Ralph starting to blast, this fight should be over relatively quickly. Just be careful about excluding Lavode from the AoE, Ralph!
