Our Mysterious Benefactor |

I'm not seeing that anywhere in the invisibility rules, Ralph. Can you provide a reference?

![]() |

Invisibility operates as a form of concealment.
Total ConcealmentIf you have line of effect to a target but not line of sight, he is considered to have total concealment from you. You can't attack an opponent that has total concealment, though you can attack into a square that you think he occupies. A successful attack into a square occupied by an enemy with total concealment has a 50% miss chance (instead of the normal 20% miss chance for an opponent with concealment).
You can't execute an attack of opportunity against an opponent with total concealment, even if you know what square or squares the opponent occupies.
Ignoring Concealment
Concealment isn't always effective. An area of dim lighting or darkness doesn't provide any concealment against an opponent with darkvision. Characters with low-light vision can see clearly for a greater distance than other characters with the same light source. Although invisibility provides total concealment, sighted opponents may still make Perception checks to notice the location of an invisible character. An invisible character gains a +20 bonus on Stealth checks if moving, or a +40 bonus on Stealth checks when not moving (even though opponents can't see you, they might be able to figure out where you are from other visual or auditory clues).
The perception check gives him my location, but does not negate the concealment.

AC is 31 with haste but without Alden's assistance.
swing #1: 1d8 ⇒ 2
swing #2: 1d7 ⇒ 2
Exiel is far easier to hit without the aid of his shield spell or the watchful Alden to pull him out of harm's way. However, his illusions manage to confound the elemental enough to keep him safe as the elemental's swings connect with two of his images, destroying them but keeping him untouched.
6 images left.
Exiel returns the favour with two quick jabs from his spear.
attack roll 1: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 5 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 3 + 1 = 34
damage roll 1: 2d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (3, 5) + 7 + 2 = 17
attack roll 2: 1d20 + 5 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 5 + 5 + 1 - 1 + 2 + 3 + 1 = 36

confirmation roll: 2d6 + 7 + 2 ⇒ (6, 1) + 7 + 2 = 16
Alden, Nienna, 42 and Naala are also hasted for 5 rounds.

A blue frost covers 42's blade, emitting more power as he dances forward and attacks the electrical elemental with two powerful swings.
attack: 1d20 + 4 + 5 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 5 + 7 = 18
attack: 1d20 + 4 + 5 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 5 + 7 = 17
and finds himself swinging in the wrong direction..
If the 18 hits, here is the damage.
damage: 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
frost damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2

Nienna does her thing.

[dice=Dmg Rapid]1d8+5[dice=Atk Haste]1d20+13+5-3+1
[dice=Dmg Haste]1d8+5
Pssst. Attack 2 needs a confirmation roll.
Also attack haste should be at full attack bonus, not iterative attack bonus (so extra +5 to hit). Though you're hitting its flat-footed AC so you might hit anyway... =p
Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Ralph, I think I need to do more research on this. It seems fuzzy how invisibility and concealment interact. In the meantime, we'll go with your interpretation.
Exiel stabs twice at the elemental, dealing damage to the cloud! Nienna fires a barrage again, hitting the cloud with deadly accuracy!
The elemental snarls, a sound of wind and fury and lashes out at Exiel! Slam: 1d20 + 24 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 24 + 3 = 36 for 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (8, 8) + 8 = 24 and 2d8 ⇒ (1, 6) = 7 electric damage and Slam: 1d20 + 24 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 24 + 3 = 46 for 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (5, 3) + 8 = 16 and 2d8 ⇒ (8, 6) = 14 electric damage! Image chance (1 hits): 1d7 ⇒ 6 and 1d6 ⇒ 5
42 dances forward and swings at the elemental twice, but his attacks miss as the cloud twists and turns. However the elemental lashes out reflexively at him! Slam: 1d20 + 24 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 24 + 3 = 34 for 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (4, 1) + 8 = 13 and 2d8 ⇒ (8, 2) = 10 electric damage!
Alden, Lavode and Ralph are up!

Ralph (still invisible) puts on the coronation crown and then casts infernal healing on himself.
"It should just be a matter of mopping up now. I really need to get that staff of entwined serpents from that shop back in Absalom."

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

42, keep in mind you're not currently adjacent to Alden.
Lavode's bralani attacks, his first slash cutting deeply into the cloud, his second missing as it recoils. Ralph crowns himself and begins to heal.
Alden, any actions other than defense?
Round 7:
30 Nienna
24 Exiel and Lightning
21 42
14 Alden
9 Lavode and Ralph
Nienna and Exiel are up!

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Exiel stabs the elemental twice, but Nienna proves to be the undoing of the elemental as it suddenly disperses, the electric tang in the air fading as both elementals are gone.
End of combat!
Now that you have time, you search the room and discover the following magic items: +2 light fortification o-yoroi, a +1 shocking burst katana, and a thundering robe (a variant shocking robe that instead grants sonic resistance, augments spells with the sonic descriptor, and deals sonic damage) In addition you can gather 1,200 gp worth of loose coin and gems if you wish.

![]() |

Lavode asks the Bralani to begin healing any who were hurt.
I've lost track of who got hurt how much, so I will just roll the remaining rounds as cure serious wounds. I would assume we will be longer than 6 minutes searching the room, so anything else it could do for us (Blur)will be worn off.
cure serious wounds 1: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) + 6 = 16
cure serious wounds 2: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 4, 3) + 6 = 14
cure serious wounds 3: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 6, 5) + 6 = 18
cure serious wounds 4: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2, 8) + 6 = 17
cure serious wounds 5: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 6, 4) + 6 = 23
cure serious wounds 6: 3d8 + 6 ⇒ (7, 6, 7) + 6 = 26

![]() |

Alden accepts the first two touches from the Bralani, which heal him to full.

![]() |

Exiel grins as he sees the katana. Noting the composition of the group, he assumes no one will mind if he helps himself to it.
Lost 4 images, but did not take any hits.

![]() |

42 accepts two touches from Lavode to bring him back up to full health.
"Thank you Lavode"

![]() |

If no one else has any sonic spells, Ralph will take the robe. I may find it useful if I need to use spell study to cast a sonic spell. Lavode would you get any use out of it?
Once the room is fully looted, Ralph looks at the set of double doors to the North.
"Nienna, at the risk of making this request too many times, do you suppose you could take a look at those doors and check them for traps?"

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The crown is finely made under the dust of the years, but does not appear magical.
Treasures are divided, tools sought and wounds healed. Does anyone take the loose coin from the elemental room?
After a few moments, you turn your eyes north to the stairs that ascend 30 feet before ending in a set of heavy double doors.

![]() |

Agreed.

![]() |

We take the kitchen sink.
And the fridge, the oven and the bath-tub.
We take anything that is not physically bolted or nailed to the floor.
Heck, I'm sure Ralph can just fabricate all the precious metals on the floor into ingots or something that we can carry, but just assume we do that on the way out. XD
If Nienna does not detect any traps on the doors, Exiel will gladly push them open...unless they are locked, in which case he asks whether Nienna can unlock them. XD

![]() |

Nienna squints at the hinges before gingerly wiggling the door handles.
Perception (traps): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (7) + 21 = 28
Disable Device: 1d20 + 25 ⇒ (14) + 25 = 39

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Nienna checks the door thoroughly and notes that it does not appear to be locked. However, she does hear some rough voices inside, too low and deep to understand through the thick door.

![]() |

Nienna moves back down the hallway and informs the rest of the party about the voices.
Do our spellcasters have any scouting spells we could use to see/hear what's on the other side? Does anyone want buffs before opening the doors?

![]() |

Exiel has no way to scout the room, but will use his create magic tattoo ability to re-create the spell tattoo on his familiar.
He will also cast shield, divine favour and monstrous physique on himself (this will replace the enlarge person, but I get to use the katana) and adhesive spittle on Lucien just before the door is opened.

![]() |

42 pulls out a wand and taps himself with it. Giving him some more AC.

![]() |

Either Lavode or myself could summon an Earth Elemental to earthglide through the walls, if we really wanted to. But at the moment it sounds like there will be combat behind the door, so I'm thinking of just buffing up, kicking the door down and charging in Exiel-and-Alden-first.
Ralph reactivates his invisibility.
When the pre-door-opening castings start, Ralph also casts bull's strength on Exiel and mirror image on himself.
mirror image: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

![]() |

Perhaps 42 could use his ring of blinking to take a quick peek through the door?
If not, Exiel will buff up (as described earlier) and kick the door down.

![]() |

sure.
42 activates his ring of blinking and blinks through the door. looks around the other side and blinks back.

![]() |

Nienna moves to have a good firing angle depending on 42's description of the room.
I'm ready for the door to open.

![]() |

If 42 doesn't see anything, He'll just open up the door and let the others in.

![]() |

Exiel does not start combat flat-footed, so probably best to let me take point. I also have the best AC (fully buffed to 36, 44 against a smited target).
My monstrous physique spell would replace the enlarge person spell, so could I also be shrunk down to medium-size? Changing my token to a gargoyle is optional. ;)

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

42 activates his ring and slips into the door. On the other side he finds a storage room. Sets of heavy double doors sit in the north and south walls of this musty room. Crates and barrels are piled against the walls, and a lone table sits in the southeastern corner. A boggard and three large moist looking fish-like green-skinned obese giants stand in the room, weapons in hand watching the door suspiciously. They spot 42, but before they can act, he slips back through the door.
Initiative!
Lavode: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
42: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
Alden: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14
Ralph: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19

Round 1:
19 Ralph, Nienna and Foes
14 42 and Alden
11 Exiel
8 Lavode
Ralph, Nienna and the Foes are up!

![]() |

42 hops back to the other side of the door. "They are waiting in ambush on the other side of this door." he quickly says.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

The door opens as one of the giants pulls it open! Another giant strikes out at Exiel! Gaff: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (3) + 16 = 19 for 2d6 + 13 ⇒ (2, 3) + 13 = 18 damage!
The third one throws a rock at Exiel! Throw: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21 for 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (2, 4) + 9 = 15 damage!
The boggard in the back darts between the legs of the giants and steps up to Exiel! Handaxe!: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 for 1d6 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 damage!
Nienna and Ralph are up!

![]() |

Ralph laughs aloud as he sees their packed formation.
And throws an intensified empowered dazing fireball into their midst (the orange circle).
fireball damage: 22d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 4, 2, 4, 5, 5, 1, 5, 1, 4, 6, 6, 3, 6, 6, 2, 4, 4, 3, 4, 2) = 85
"Boom," he says snidely as their world is engulfed in fire.
DC 22, anyone who fails is dazed for 3 rounds.

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Ralph, how do you end up with 22d6 for your fireball damage?
Reflex Boggard: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (5) + 8 = 13
Giant Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (17) + 7 = 24
Giant Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14
Giant Reflex: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16

![]() |

Sorry forgot to mention I was using focused spell as well to boost my caster level. Caster level 17 empowered fireball, but damage capped at 15d6 x 1.5. With dazing.
Looks like only one of them is not dazed. This should be over quickly.
Could you mark the giant that is not dazed?

Our Mysterious Benefactor |

Nevermind, got it.
The fireball explodes with a roar, leaving three of the four combatants dazed. Only one giant managed to avoid the dazed fate! Marked with a purple dot.

![]() |

Exiel's training in defensive strategies from his time with the church of Torag allows him to easily evade the attacks directed at him. Even his images remain untouched as he deftly maneuvers them out of the way of the clumsy incoming attacks.
Also...they rolled crap.
He gets a faceful of heat from Ralph's fireball, but the spectacular results bring a smile to his face.
Looks like they are all still standing but significantly hurt? Taking a full 85 damage would kill me outright. Nice work there, Ralph!
I'll see if there are any other developments before declaring my action, but unless something surprising happens and the fight gets bigger, I reckon Nienna will pin-cushion the un-dazed giant and 42 and I will finish him off, then we'll all pick off the dazed guys before they even get to recover. XD
GM, if the fight is not going to get bigger (i.e. new combatants joining), do you want us to just roll our next 3 rounds of attacks to speed things up?

![]() |

GM, if the fight is not going to get bigger (i.e. new combatants joining), do you want us to just roll our next 3 rounds of attacks to speed things up?
FOUR rounds. The giants already acted in round 1, so they are dazed in rounds 2, 3 and 4. If you are rolling all at once, you should roll for rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Ralph at this point is thinking of just sitting back and sipping cocoa for the rest of this fight. GG.
