It is just a small snake.
Latharel tries to take the basket and turing it over he tries to place it upside down on top of the snake to capture it.
Move action take basket and turn over for content to drop out.
Free action - 5 foot step (to ensure key dropped not in same square as snake (could be done in any order)
1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
This will likely cause an attack of opportunity unless it already used it's AoO this round and I win initiative. I leave it to the GM as we are not in Init order so far.
Or someone killed the snake before I'm able to do that. Wouldn't even catch a dead snake ...

Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
As Latharel attempts to up-end the basket onto the tiny snake, it darts out quickly and attempts to bite him on the leg.
Attack (bite: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Damage (poison): 1d2 - 2 ⇒ (2) - 2 = 0
If the snake hits, it will be one point of non-lethal damage followed by a Fortitude save at DC 9.
I'll roll the Fortitude save, just to speed things along. Viper hits, giving 1 point of non-lethal damage.
Fortitude (Latheral): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
As the tiny viper's fangs nip Latharel's calf, his muscle involuntarily clenches but nothing else seems to happen.
Saved the poison and no more!
Init order:
Viper - turn 1 taken
Targ
Lillia
Crar
Kernsten
Latharel

As the glow dies down, the woman allows her hair to fall back into place, and from deep in her throat comes a high pitched metallic screeching, which almost sounds like laughter.
Standard action, Evil eye against the snake: -2 penalty to AC for the next 7 rounds, with a DC14 Will save to reduce the duration to 1 round.
Move action to cackle, increasing the duration of the evil eye by 1 round.

Kernsten watches the snake as it writhes around...
"Little nasty creature" the big man raises his foot trying to stamp down on the viper with all his might.
Unarmed Strike Power Attack1d20 + 4 - 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 1 = 22 non-lethal damage 1d3 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6 attracts AoO, AC=18.

As you turn the key and lift the lid, you hear a faint mechanical click that seems to flow through the floor and up to the ceiling where you see a small crack appear and a key drops down six inches or so from the ceiling which is 15 feet high.
Inside the chest lies a key forged into the end of a jeweled scepter. The jewels and scepter appear to be quite exquisite.

Crar watches in wonder at the mechanical shifting when the key drops down from the ceiling. He's never see anything like it.
Re the glass jar, last mention Crar had it in hand, was hovering near Targ on the suggestion he pour the contents of the jar on the snake. Now that that has been addressed, he is probably still holding it or if there is somewhere next to him to set it down he will have done that.

Kersten looks at the others, "Why don't we just break that jar and get the key out? What can be difficult about that?" Kernsten starts towards the jar, going to pick it up.
If no one stop Kernsten, he will pick up the jar and throw it at a wall farthest from the party, hoping to smash the vessel and release the key.

"Anyone here having some magic to get the key down? Where is a mage with a mage hand if you need him?
I could try to build something to catch it in the air - but it would take a while."
I do have a Pathfinder adventuring kit. The best option I came up with is to slice open the waterskin to get a square piece of leather, take my clay mug and shatter it - hoping for 4 equal sized pieces, using the sewing needle and thread to sew some 'weight' aka pieces from the mug on the four corners - attach some rope with the thread and needle and try to use it as improvised weapon to catch the key and get it down.
But looking at Lillia I noticed her strange mastery of her hair. as you get reach, that might work. If nobody posts in the next day or so, then I will go ahead with smashing my mug and start sewing - but I'm happy to give a magic solution the precedence it deserves.

"Perhaps," Lillia answers Crar, nodding thoughtfully, "but it might be better to hold your summoning in reserve in case things turn ugly later on in the docks."
With that, she shakes her silvery hair back and it seems to swirl slightly as though in a brisk wind, small crackles of energy sparking from strand to strand as the movement increases in vigour. After but a moment of concentration, the silver strands coalesce into a single mass rushing upwards to grasp at the key hanging from the ceiling and pull it down into a waiting hand.
Sorry I've not been posting the last few days, I've been without an internet connection.
But looking at Lillia I noticed her strange mastery of her hair.
You're right, I didn't think so at first but I forgot to consider her height... also it seems that the hair isn't subject to lasting damage, so it might be able to retrieve the key from the liquid too.

"So is someone able to deal with any unexpected surprises from trying to open these boxes? If so I suggest you try now, or by the strength of Iomedae I will crush such a container to reveal its secrets."
Kernsten would never suggest trying to use the liquid in the jar to break into either of the other boxes, it could be used to break the band of copper or eat into the steel box perhaps? Worth an investigation......Also I am expecting Lillia to try using her hair to get the key out of the liquid, so Kernsten won't do anything until she has tried that.

Lillia stoops down to look more closely at the locks, but wrinkles her nose and shakes her head, "I don't know much about trapmaking, to be honest... something clockwork perhaps, but otherwise I'm just taking a shot in the dark."
Perception 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Rising from the chests, she focuses once more and extends a coil her hair into the odd smelling liquid to recover the remaining key.

Latharel marvels in the skills that Targ shows in disabling the trap. For a moment he had contemplating if he should try his feeble skills - learned while traveling with the Szarni - but having no tools he would never have been able to do it as well as Targ.
An interesting question occurs to me - can you assist in a disable device check? What happens if the assist fails? Would you get the bonus (or at least no malus) of tools if the lead character uses some tools?

Hovering around nearby, Crar wonders how he can help. Growing up in the wilderness, he never needed to know how to break locks and bypass trapped items. Now, he's thinking it would be something worth knowing.
Happy to aid with a Disable Device check if it's possible, though unfortunately Crar is untrained in that skill.
