Nevis Lodge: First Steps, Part 1 - In Service to Lore (Inactive)

Game Master Paizo Fan

Part 1 of the First Steps trio, played by Nevis Lodge.

Greetings,

A friend and I are looking to run some Society modules online, as getting a local game is difficult due to family commitments, etc. We're looking for three like-minded individuals to set up a regular group that will play via PbP preferably from the UK as we intend to attend PaizoCon UK 2012.

- We plan to run the season 3 modules but we will run season 2 modules as well to make up numbers.
- We intend to run with level 1 characters.
- We intend to 'round robin' DM so that everyone gets a chance to play although candidates need not feel they have to DM if they don't want to.

We haven't yet chosen characters but I think we'll want to keep numbers as close to 5 as possible purely to keep the tempo going as it is easy for PbP games to get bogged down.

If anyone is interested, please post below with character details and whether you would want to DM or not.

DM Wellard, we met at PaizoCon UK a couple of years ago and you gave me your email address which I unfortunately lost before I got home, but I recall you were interested in getting a game set up back then. Is that still the case?

Would be interested, might find time to run, but the new erm is on me, and there will be a lot of teaching going on. Btw., just saw you are in Scotland, where exactly if I may ask?

We're both North of Aberdeen.

I'm not from the UK, but is it okay if I play? Also, what's the point buy total(20, 25) allowed?

Sovereign Court

I'd be interested in this, the last time I tried PFS on the boards people started disappearing after a couple of games, but it was good while it lasted.

I'm happy to take my turn GMing, I found that the PFS modules were a really good fit for PbP.

Character-wise, I've got a bunch of ideas for new characters floating around, so I'll choose the one to fit with the rest of the group.

Liberty's Edge

I want to join this group! I'm from Spain, so there isn't a big time difference between us.

I have a lot of experience in Society PBP. I have been running and playing for a couple of years. So, you can count me in as GM and player. I have a few questions:

-how many games will we be running at the same time?
-I have a few level 1 characters, but with a couple of exp points in them. Is that a problem to join as a player?

What do you say? Am I in?

Sovereign Court

I'm not from the UK, but I'd love to join up if you can't find enough locals. I like the round robin plan, and I'd be willing to be in the DM rotation.

North of Aberdeen you say, how far North Inverness? If you live not to far and have time occasionally and want to play PFS, you could come along.

We're both just outside Peterhead so Inverness is a bit of a hefty drive as both of us have young kids.

I'm going to keep this post open until the weekend and then we'll look at who is interested and make choices from there. We'll also put anyone who doesn't make it onto a waiting list as I'm aware PbP games have a fairly large turnover.

To answer questions:

@Barong: Character creation will be as per standard Society guidelines. All characters MUST be Society legal.

@Ravenath: To begin with, we'll run a game at a time. If we can handle multiple game threads at once, then we'll ramp up slowly. Level 1 characters with a couple exp points is no problem, as long as you clearly outline which modules you have already played to prevent any legality issues in the future. Multi-part scenarios will be run in order, and probably by the same GM.

Current list of applicants:
PeteZero, UK, potential GM
Barong, non UK, GM status unknown
Calixymenthillian, UK?, willing to GM
Ravenath, Spain, willing to GM
Kobash, non UK, willing to GM

Shadow Lodge

I'd also be very interested. I am not in UK, either, sadly, but am deployed in Afghanistan (Time zone +0430). I am fairly familiar with PFS (less with the administrative parts). A little experience with PbP, and might eventually like to run one, if I can get the tech to do so while deployed. PFS #5274

Are you looking at officially sanctioned games?

About GMing, I've never done it before and I don't really feel comfortable with it. I'm sorry. Here's my character:

Hi. I've never GM'ed PFS scenarios, but I've done plenty of GM'ing with other things (about 9 years now) so would have no problem with that.

I have no experience with PFS at all, actually, but I do have the character creation guidelines so making a PFS-legal character should be no problem.

What is your intended posting schedule? I'm way over in NY State, but I'm currently pretty flexible with my posting time. The only times I'd be unavailable to post are when I'm sleeping (usually 1am-8am EST) and during classes (9a-1p EST and 2-3p EST).

And since every group can use explosives, say hello to Borador! :D

His Tale:
Borador hails from parts unknown. Due to what Borador calls his "moral flexibility," he was cast out of his clan, stripped of his surname and thrown to the wolves somewhere in the woods of Varisia. He barely survived several animal attacks before eventually finding his way to the city of Korvosa.

There, he began training in the alchemical arts under the tutelage of an elven alchemist named Varion Silverstar. A brilliant but troubled elf, Varion eventually took to drinking more than handing out lessons. In the interim, Varion's sister Tessara gave him a few lessons in the finer points of skullduggery. She expanded upon many of Borador's previous underhanded skills and taught him a certain amount of finesse and subtlety which he previously lacked.

Unfortunately his lessons eventually came to an end. There came a time when Varion no longer bothered coming home from the taverns at all, and his sister was too preoccupied with her brother's condition to continue their lessons. Borador had no idea what caused such anguish for the elves (he often saw Tess in a melancholy mood as well) and he never bothered to ask. Now it looked like his stay with the twins was at an end. Deciding he would learn no more from his tutors, Borador pocketed several items and fled the Silverstars' home. He later learned of the legendary Pathfinder Society, and the dangers--and riches--that could be had as one of their members.

Using the coin from selling off his pilfered alchemical supplies, he found a ship to take him along the coast to the city of Absalom. He has since allied with the Qadira Lodge, finding kindred spirits in their lust for power through control of trade routes.

I'm interested in playing. Haven't DMed before and I might be willing if there's an interesting enough module.

Like a few of the others, I'm not from the UK (originally USA, in the sandbox for the next few months). However, it shouldn't be too much of a problem.

If we want to run multiple games side by side, they can't be with the same characters, but it would certainly be a good idea to have two games if there are more players interested than would fit onto one 'table'.

Yep, we may have met at a convention sometime... I go to a lot of them.

Peterhead, not to far from Aberdeen, if you can make it though...

Is there a limitation on playing scenarios with the same characters at the same time? My friend and I were at PaizoCon UK 2009.

I actually work in Aberdeen, but it takes a while to get back home. Is that Knights of the Trinity?

We're limited to playing our characters in only one scenario at a time, which is why it's pretty much mandatory to play PbP games with a dedicated character, since you can't play that same character in an off-line game until the PbP is over. Hopefully it won't be too difficult to schedule a break around PaizoconUK 2012 so that those of us attending might get a game in person.

I've been at all the UK Paizocons, so we might have bumped into each-other. I don't think we were on the same table though; if I remember correctly, at that convention we kept the same groups and rotated between GMs.

Left a lot of stuff out about my character. I wanted to get it posted quickly.

Originally named Klug, Aram has had a hard life. Born the result of orc breeding experiments with humans, his mother escaped the first chance she had when he was five. After suffering continued abuse for five more years, and beginning to manifest sorcerous powers, he ran away. He was starving when a kindly androsphinx named Myrix found him. Taking pity on him, Myrix took him in. He gave the name of Aram to him to replace his harsh gutteral orc name. Myrix tutored Aram on how to use his powers, and inscribed him with magical tattoos to better control his powers. Myrix was a devotee of the Empyreal Lord Kelumarion, and passed on his morality to Aram. Some time after his 16 birthday, Aram began to feel a wanderlust. He wanted to develop his powers and help people, but there was another side of him that kept feeling he was destined to live in the lap of luxury, but didn't know quite why. Myrix was worried about the source of his powers, but thought Aram should find out for himself. He gave Aram some gold and told him to find his destiny. Wondering into the nearby town, he heard about the Pathfinder Society, and knew immediately that was his destiny. He quickly made ship to Absalom, where he joined the Andoran Faction, that most closely aligned with his beliefs, although a part of him wanted to join up instead with the wealth-seeking Sczarni Faction instead.

I've got three characters ready to go: a human paladin of Sheylin named Maximo (he's a lover, not a fighter.. But he's a fighter too so don't get any ideas), a human gunfighter called Maps, and a gnome cleric of Pharasma named Bartleby. They're all first level, and only Bartleby has a scenario under his belt (actually, he's in the last encounter of his first one now, which should wrap up in a day or two). Their full info can be seen in my Society character aliases.

I'm willing to make new characters if wanted.

No it is a private game, Monday nights in Westhill, if you wanna come around an evening just give me a shout.

I have currently one character fre as it looks like, all others are tied into online adeventures....
A 1st lvl gnome heaven's oracle.

I'd be interested in joining a Society game, I play a few pbps here and would be willing to GM. I have GM'd in real life, but never a Society game. One day I hope to get to PaizoCon UK, but life often throws things up. I'm not that familiar with Society games, although I have downloaded the pdf and can make a character when you're ready...

Just let me know...

Hi Guys unfortunately I have to rely on public transport so Mondays are not feasible coming in from Inverness.

The Exchange

Hi, I'm one of the other local folks along with Nostrus. Haven't done any PbP gaming in a while, but they can be fun and while I'd prefer to be a player to start, would be happy to take a turn at running a PFS game. Really flexible on what character to play, will probably see what we have first and design a character according to what might be most needed. Looking forward to this!

We would be looking to do officially sanctioned games, yes. This is so that we can use characters at our national Paizo convention in 2012.

Current applicants
PeteZero, UK, potential GM
Barong, non UK, not willing to GM
Calixymenthillian, UK, willing to GM
Ravenath, non UK, willing to GM
Kobash, non UK, willing to GM
Beckett, non UK, willing to GM
Apoc Golem, non UK, willing to GM
Deevor, UK, willing to GM

So it looks like we can build two groups, one which meets our requirements of having UK players for potentially meeting up at PaizoCon 2012 and then another group for the non-UK players.

UK group
Nostrus
PeteZero
Calixymenthillian
Deevor
CrazyHedgehog

Non UK Group
Barong
Ravenath
Kobash
Beckett
Apoc Golem

I suggest that the second group nominate an initial GM to run the first scenario.

For the first group, I will make an OOC thread at lunchtime which wil contain all current valid first level scenarios and we can discount any that are invalid for those who have played already. The first scenario will be run by me, #3-01 - The Frostfur Captives.

Anyone reading this thread after the groups are announced, feel free to leave a note and we can add you to the waiting lists for either group as I'm aware that PbP games can have a high turnover or people needing to duck out due to personal reasons.

Shadow Lodge

Anyone in the Non-UK want to step up for the initial DM slot? I don't mind giving it a try, but I have limited internet while deployed, so may or may not be able to post something once or twice a week, and may or may not be able to do any sort of maps. If that's ok with everyone, I'll give it a try.

Secondly, how do we register as Gms, or do we need to do so?

I also opened up a Non-UK Discusion group Here, if anyone wants to jump there for the non-UK only.

As I'm currently unfamiliar with the PFS scenarios and do not, at this time, have my hands on any, perhaps it's best if I don't GM first. I'm also curious if we have to register as PFS GM's or not.

Shadow Lodge

I don't believe so. I think you just need to have a PFS number.

Grand Lodge

I'm seeing this a little bit late - but count me as interested.

Ive been a GM at the last two PoaizoCon UK conventions (the GM with the 3d terrain from DwarvenForge) and I'm also a GM for Carrion Crown on this boards.

To get a character would take me a day. To GM a little bit longer as it needs proper preparation. On the positive - I do have GMed lots of low tie scenarios already.

Thod

Dark Archive

I am still new to this but if there is room I would like to play. I have a few different toons I can bring.

Dark Archive

I am still geting use to playing the PBP and PFS but I would love to play with this toon My Paly. Please let me know He is Level 1 and has never played before.

Dark Archive

Uh, check the date, my friend. This was from 2011. Chances are good that this campaign has long since been completed or died.
