Chiggo drinks the mystery potion, then whispers, "Chiggo have big idea. Chiggo get up and make Horse come after Chiggo. Chiggo make Horse come to Licktoads so you can chop it!"

Without waiting for approval, Chiggo leaps up from cover, shouting at the Horse and charging it. Once the horse starts to charge him, he'll turn tail and draw the horse into the midst of the group.

That's too much to do in just one surprise round (limited to just a single standard or move action). However, since he's been contemplating the potion so much, we can say it was already out and so he can drink it.

Chiggo feels a rush of power as he downs the strange liquid. He thinks he can almost see his muscles grow larger. He feels much stronger. It was a potion of bull's strength. Chiggo gains a +4 enhancement bonus to his Strength for the next 3 minutes.

Just waiting for Poog's and Pussl's actions...

Map Updated

Pussl briefly considers shooting Reta to shut her up but instead moves around the gate to a secure position where he can keep an eye out for greater dangers than the wicked four-legs.
Stink follows him and takes a position in the grass beside him.

Move to P6. Stink moves to O6.

Poog readies to fire a fire bolt at the stinking monstrosity should it come within 30ft of the group.

The hated horse neighs angrily as it notices the party.

Wow, lots of really low rolls, but the horse is the lowest. It might not survive long enough to get an action. :)

Active Magical Effects:
None.

Map Updated

Celestial Thylacine| HP 65/65| AC 19 T 13 FF 13| Fo +9 Re +6 Wi +4, Evasion, DR 5/evil, SR 11| Init +2| Percep +7

Chuffy will delay until after the horse moves, then try to come in behind it and and give it a dog slicer enema.

"Kill the beast! In Zarongel's name!"

Attack, ranged touch 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8 damage 1d6 ⇒ 6

Female Goblin Sorcerer (elemental: fire) 1

Old Foofelah drains her vial, then strolls casually to the foot of the gangplank. "Bah. Old Foofelah is not afraid of horses. Horses too scared to attack Old Foofelah."

Drink potion; Move to N 9

DM:
That's her potion of hide from animals. :)

I'm not sure if Stink can receive instructions until it's Pussl's turn or not. But given that Poog shouted out an attack, Pussl will follow that up. If you want to delay Stink until Pussl's turn, Navior, that's fine.

"Stink! Attack that hideous four-legs!"

Stink should be able to reach the horse in a charge.
Charge to J13.
Bite Attack: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4

Chiggo will drink a dose of his alcohol and ready to breath fire on the horse when it gets within range. Then, he realizes that he had put his torch out to be sneaky. He looks back at the others, his eyes wide, and says, "MMMM! MMMMM MMMM MMMM MMM MMMMM MMMMMMM!!!!!" and waves the unlit torch around.

So instead he readies a dirty trick to spew the alcohol in the horse's eyes, trying to blind it.

Dirty Trick Combat Maneuver: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20

Not that it matters but I forgot to add Stink's charging bonus to his attack roll. It should be a 9 rather than a 7. Whoopsidoo.

Poog yells and waits for the horse to come in range. Chuffy waits for the right moment. Amidst the tenseness of the situation, Old Foofelah simply drinks the content of the vial and strides casually to the gangplank.

Horse Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15 -- pass

"Stink! Attack that hideous four-legs!"

Speaking is a special free action that you can do any time, even when it's not your turn (within reason). You're not flat-footed since there was a surprise round, so it's absolutely possible to order Stink forward right away.

Stink rushes forward and sinks his teeth into the horse's leg (yep, he hits! the horse is still flat-footed)

Chiggo takes a gulp of alochol before realizing he has no flame. He waits.

Next Up: Reta, Pussl, Horse, Chuffy, Poog (subject to readied action), Old Foofelah, Stink, Chiggo (subject to readied action).

Female Goblin

"Reta tired of waiting for stoopid horse." She says as she moves within range of her bow and fires.

Move to L 7; attack horse.

Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6

Didn't take off the -4 for shooting into melee, since the horse is large and the wolvering is medium. I'm not sure if the -4 still applies or not. Obviously it doesn't matter this time, SINCE I ROLLED ANOTHER STINKING ONE, but I would be interested to know if it does.

This. Is. Absurd. Hope you really aren't looking for your dogslicer back, Chuffy. I'm afraid next time I use it, maybe the last time I use it.

Reta huffs in anger as her shot goes way wide. "WHY ALL YOU STOOPID WEAPONS NOT WORK!" She screams at the bow.

Pussl aims the crossbow and pulls the trigger, even though this is the first crossbow he's evern seen, much less used.

Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 - 4 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 4 - 4 = 0
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 5

As the bolt goes wild, he snarls in disgust and throws it aside. "Ugh. Useless!"

Then he moves closer.

Move to L10.

The penalty actually works out to -2. See the OOC thread for the full explanation (not that it makes a difference here).

Reta and Pussl both move up and fire at the horse. Both arrow and bolt fly far wide.

Horse hoof 1 on Stinker: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (14) - 2 = 12 -- miss
Horse hoof 2 on Stinker: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (7) - 2 = 5 -- miss

The evil horse neighs wickedly and kicks at Stink, but the wolverine ably avoids the hooves.

Next Up: Chuffy, Poog, Old Foofelah, Stinker, Chiggo, Reta, Pussl, Horse.

Map Updated

Poog hussles closer, gibbering with battle glee, "Zaaaa-rooooong-uleeeeee." To K10 or thereabout

Attack, firebolt 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 18 damage 1d6 ⇒ 4

Celestial Thylacine| HP 65/65| AC 19 T 13 FF 13| Fo +9 Re +6 Wi +4, Evasion, DR 5/evil, SR 11| Init +2| Percep +7

Chuffy will go up the ladder onto the ship. At the top of the ladder (N12) he'll look around for the fireworks.

Using the battle as a distraction, Chuffy hurries to the ganglplank, passing Old Foofelah and starting up it. The gangplank is vinechoked with a mossy handrail. One handrail is encrusted with a large ball of dried mud. The gangplank is quite steep (and requires a DC 10 Climb check to ascend).

Chuffy Climb: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14

The steepness does not prove an obstacle for Chuffy and he makes it to the top. He makes it to N 12, but because of the climbing, it ends up a double move to get there instead of a single move.

ROUND 2

Active Magical Effects
None.

Poog moves up closer to the raging horse and lets loose a bolt of fire. The bolt bursts across the horse's neck and main, burning away much of the main and causing the beast to cry in pain.

Next Up: Old Foofelah, Stinker, Chiggo, Reta, Pussl, Horse, Chuffy, Poog.

Map Updated

Female Goblin Sorcerer (elemental: fire) 1

"Goblins should show respect to elders!" Old Foofelah cries angrily as Chuffy shoves past her. She follows him up the gangplank. Climb 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14 and the chief's magic ring makes the difference! Stopping once she has reached the deck, she moves to the railing and calls to Reta, "Reta! Come up on ship! Horses is too stupid to climb ladders like Old Foofelah!" Move to M 13

Once on deck, Old Foofelah sees that the main deck of the shipwreck is cluttered with objects both natural and artificial. Thick swaths of leafy vines grow over the deck, and shiny green patches of algae and moss grow where the vines do not. The central cabin's roof has a wide edge, creating a canopied walkway along the ship's sides. A flight of steps leads up to the roof of the ship's main cabin, the entrance to which is blocked by a door decorated by a large number of rodent and bird skulls. A smoking stovepipe chimney extends up from the ship's highest point above. She suddenly hears the barking of dogs.

Next Up: Stinker, Chiggo, Reta, Pussl, Horse, Chuffy, Poog, Old Foofelah.

Map Udpated

I've also added a map called "Full Shipwreck Map" to the sight. This shows the upper decks of the ship as well. The map is a bit confusing to figure out (it took me a while and my copy has labels on it!). The bottom one is the main deck (which Old Foofelah is on now). The one above that is the upper decks, and the one above that is the rigging. The confusing part is the one showing the surrounding (where the battle is taking place). That one seems to be somewhat superfluous and tries to show all the decks overlapping. However, it's convenient for the rest of the battle to keep the tokens there for now. Just keep in mind there's a walkway around the outside and to get inside, you have to use the door on the other side. Once everyone's on the ship, I'll switch to using the other maps for the battlemap.

Stink erupts into a rage and fiercely attacks the four-legged beast with tooth and claw in a frenzy of stiff fur and angry eyes and ferocious growling.

Bite Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Claw Attack 1: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Claw Attack 2: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Damage: 1d3 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Stink launches a vicious assault on the horse, which successfully rears away from the bite attempt and the first claw. However, Stink's second claw manages to tear a gash along the horse's stomach. The devilish beast is bleeding heavily now and screeching with unholy rage.

Next Up: Chiggo, Reta, Pussl, Horse, Chuffy, Poog, Old Foofelah, Stinker.

Chiggo gives up on waiting for the horse and charges in with a flying kick, waiting for the horse to turn around and aims for its goods (not a stunning attack, though).

Attack: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
Unfortunately, he gets its vicious tail in his face which knocks him off stride, nearly causing him to give the horse an alcohol enema.

The horse neighs as Chiggo stumbles. It almost sounds like laughter. Of course, it's an evil horse. It probably is laughing at him. :)

Next Up: Reta, Pussl, Horse, Chuffy, Poog, Old Foofelah, Stinker, Chiggo.

Map Updated

Pussl takes another step closer, draws his spear and chucks it at the horse.

5-foot step to K11.
Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 2 - 4 = 0
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

Pussl stomps his foot on the ground. "Chiggo blocks Pussl's throw with clumsy steps!"

Female Goblin

"Maybe if Reta get closer." She talks to herself as she moves closer and fires again.

Move to L12; So if I attack square H 15 or I 15, does that mean no -4? Or -2 since we all are 2 sizes smaller? Adjust accordingly please. I'm gonna leave the minuses out.(I should probably type this AFTER I roll, seeing how I tend to spit out those lovable 1's.)

Shortbow: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Damage: 1d4 ⇒ 1

"Stoopid bow finally not broke this time."

See? Those lovable ones. To hit or damage. Just like I said. They seem to be alternating. Hm. Interesting. :)

Reta Bigbad wrote:

It's no penalty, since you can target a square that is at least 10 ft away from all the horse's opponents. I get confused by this too, as evidenced by Nazard and I correcting each other in the OOC thread. :)

Reta finally hits with one of her arrows, but alas, it's a mere scrape and only succeeds in enraging the hellbeast more.

Pussl moves up a bit closer and tosses his spear, almost hitting Chiggo in the process. The spear lands in the mud beside the horse.

The horse screams in rage (actually pain) and kicks out in sheer ferocity (actually panic) at Chiggo and Stinker.

Horse hoof 1 on Chiggo: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 -- miss
Horse hoof 2 on Stinker: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (18) - 2 = 16 -- hit
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3

One hoof knocks Stink across the side of the head.

Right at that moment, back on the gangplank, the vines snap tight, and the ball of dried mud falls and smashes on the ground, releasing a swarm of wasps! The wasps spread out, buzzing angrily, over Chuffy, then Old Foofelah, and even Reta, Pussl, and Poog, stinging over and over. Chuffy set off the trap last round, but there was a 1 round delay.

Chuffy Fortitude: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 -- fail
Old Foofelah Fortitude: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (20) - 1 = 19 -- pass
Poog Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13 -- pass
Pussl Fortitude: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 -- fail
Reta Fortitude: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8 -- fail
Chuffy, Pussl, and Reta all take 1 point of Dex damage.

The wasps then quickly disperse. They were not a "swarm" in game mechanics terms. It was merely a trap. On the updated map, I've left an outline of where the effect occurred just so you can see the area it covered.

Next Up: Chuffy, Poog, Old Foofelah, Stinker, Chiggo, Reta, Pussl, Horse.

Round 3?, Initiative 5
AC 17; HP 10/10

Poog is completely undeterred by the sudden appearance of wasps. He instead screams bluddy murder and casts more fire at the equine beast.

Attack, firebolt (2nd) 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19 damage 1d6 ⇒ 3

Female Goblin

Hearing the trap go off, Reta turns her attention to it momentarily and then the next thing she knows she's having to swat at a swarm of bugs. Quite angrily. "CHUFFY WHAT YOU DO?! WHY YOU LET BUGS BITE US?!" Reta blames him instantly, knowing Old Foofelah would never make such a mistake. "WHY YOU NOT KILLING HORSE WITH GORGE?! STOOPID CHUFFY!"

Celestial Thylacine| HP 65/65| AC 19 T 13 FF 13| Fo +9 Re +6 Wi +4, Evasion, DR 5/evil, SR 11| Init +2| Percep +7

Chuffy screams in anger "SWEET DAISIES!!" as he moves away from the swarm of wasps. That's the loudest anyone has heard him speak in forever. Once he gets to L15, Chuffy lights a paper candle and prepares to throw it.

Female Goblin Sorcerer (elemental: fire) 1

Chuffy's scream is loud enough for even Old Foofelah to hear, although she pays little attention to the wasps. "You watch language, Chuffy!" she snaps at him. "You is in presence of ladies!" She shuffles down the railing of the ship around the edge of the cabin to see what might be on the other side. Move along the north edge of the ship until she sees something; Perception 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15

Chuffy lights his paper candle as Poog sends another bolt of fire, which flies straight into the horse's face. The horse lets out one last raging scream and collapses.

COMBAT OVER

As Old Foofelah moves along the north side of the ship, the barking gets louder. It's clear that there are at least two dogs. It sounds like one is at the back end of the ship and the other is on the deck above.

Chuffy has a lit paper candle he needs to get rid of and quick! :)

Map Updated

Celestial Thylacine| HP 65/65| AC 19 T 13 FF 13| Fo +9 Re +6 Wi +4, Evasion, DR 5/evil, SR 11| Init +2| Percep +7

He does. He'll still toss it over the rail.

Female Goblin Sorcerer (elemental: fire) 1

"Birdcruncher traitor!" Old Foofelah cackles to Pussl. "Here is more dogs for you to love and walk on strings!"

Chuffy tosses the paper candle over the side and it explodes with a loud bang. The barking of the dogs intensifies, and a mangy dog appears at the end of the north walkway just underneath the ladder to the deck above. It pulls on a chain that is holding it back from moving any farther. It barks and growls, drool running over its sharp teeth and onto the deck.

Female Goblin

"Dogs." Reta's eyes narrow as she puts her bow up and pulls out Chuffy's dogslicer. She then remembers her prize. She stops a moment and pulls out the Dragon Brew gourd and drinks it. "Dogs will BURN!" She heads toward the ship, but realizes she is gonna have to climb up.

Climb: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6

Is it possible to take 10?

You're not in combat at the moment, so yes.

Female Goblin

Reta moves up the plank, towards Old Foofelah. "Reta see doggie." She says in a singsong psychotic way. "RETA HATE DOGGIE! RETA WILL CUT DOGGIE INTO BITS! THEN MAYBE RETA BURN DOGGIE!" She pulls Chuffy's dogslicer out again.

Climb onto ship. Take 10 to climb. Attack dog first chance I get.

Tsk, tsk! Such slapdash and slovenly fighting! A party of gnomes would have defeated everything in sight by now, and would be sitting comfortably on the deck drinking tea with their pinkies up. Up, I say!

Pussl turns at the sound of Foofelah's voice. "Dogs? Stink! We go kill dogs."

He turns and heads over to the ship, making his way to where Foofelah is with Stink at his heels.

2 people marked this as a favorite.
Female Goblin

Reta quickly moves behind the monologuing snooty gnome, thrusting her dogslicer through his back, while angling the blade to where it slices his lungs and pierces his heart. Pulling the slicer out, she stabs him several more times over and over. As he falls to the ground, she bends down, grabs the hair on top of his head pulling his head back, takes the slicer and draws it across his throat, forming a neat little crimson waterfall. Slamming his head into the deck of the ship a few times and then driving her blade through his skull for good measure, she gets up ready to face the dog. ;)

Vorka, the cannibal, sneaks up behind the Snooty Gnome and eats him. Back to the goblins now... :)

Dog Strength Check: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

As Reta moves along the walkway towards the growling, barking dog, it starts to pull harder on its chain. The chain is clearly straining, but it holds for now.

ROUND 1

First Up: Reta

Map Updated
I've moved the tokens to the main deck level of the map, so the position of walls and such is clearer. Those not yet on the ship, I've put in their relative positions where the ground would be. However, I've presumed their moving to the ship, so have placed them closer to the gangplank than they were fighting the horse.

DM:
Have you rolled the dog's Will save? Old Foofelah's hide from animals should still be active, as she never touched the horse.

Female Goblin

Reta moves in for the kill. "DOGGIE MUST DIE!"

Move to AW 13

Dogslicer: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Poog, after slaying the humongous horse-shaped beast goes to dance over its corpse, singing, "Zarongel! Zaaaarongel! Greatest of goblin gods! Fire burns horse churns! Zarongel Zaaaarongel!" He's quite oblivious to the shouts of dogs until his song is concluded, then he looks up sharply and bounces up the plank in a looping goblin gait, "ZAAA-ROOOONG-ULEEEEEEeeee!"

@ Old Foofelah: Whoops! Thank you for reminding me of that. I should have been including that in the active magical effects list. Luckily, they haven't done anything actively against you yet. Their actions have been in response to the whole party. :)

Dog 1 Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 -- fail
Dog 2 Will: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 -- fail

Reta moves in and attacks the feral dog, her aptly-named blade slicing into the beasts neck. It howls in pain, blood pooling beneath it. It is barely able to stand now. It tries desperately to bite her.

Dog bite at Reta: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3 -- miss

It slips in its own blood, however, and collapses.

Well, that was the shortest combat ever. :)
COMBAT OVER

Female Goblin Sorcerer (elemental: fire) 1

"Too bad, dog-loving Birdcruncher traitor!" Old Foofelah chortles as she steps through the pool of blood and around the corner. "Reta is too fast for you."

Female Goblin

Reta grins maliciously. "RETA HATE DOGS! DOGGIES MUST DIE!" She revels in her victory, sword held high. "Are there more doggies?" She then asks.

Pussl grunts, baring his teeth. "Reta only good for killing dogs. Anyone can kill a dog," he mutters.

He moves around the room to the door. "What in here?"

The dog on the deck above continues to bark as Old Foofelah, Reta, and Pussl make their way around to the aft of the ship. At the same time, Chuffy sneaks that way via the south walkway, and Chiggo and Poog head up the gangplank.

Chuffy Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Old Foofelah Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Pussl Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
Reta Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Stinker Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Vorka Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (1) + 10 = 11
Giant Frog Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30

As Pussl gets close to the door, he suddenly hears a voice softly on the other side say, "Ready. Now."

The door opens right at that moment to reveal a cabin with air that is thick and close, stinking of swamp and sweat, with a thick, glistening layer of mud on the floor and swaths of oily fungus clinging to the walls. Even more dangling decorations of goblin bone and animal-part fetishes hang from the ceiling on lengths of sinew here, and what appears to be a nest made of rags, sticks, mud, and castoff bits of clothing lies against the westernmost wall. But scattered amid the filth and clutter are several exotic-looking man-made objects—including a tantalizing red chest.

Most notably however, is a huge frog by the central mast, and just inside the door is a goblin with a fearsome mouth. It's a bit too wide,
even by goblin standards, and has a snaggletooth grin of mismatched, filed teeth that leaves little doubt as to her preference for tough, stringy meat. Like goblin meat. She wears rags and bits of stained cloth over her equally patchwork leather armor. On her head is a floppy, pointy leather hat. She holds a ball of fire in her bare hands. She is Vorka the Cannibal!

Chiggo Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Chuffy Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Old Foofelah Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Poog Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Pussl Initiative: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 1 = 12

Stinker Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Vorka Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Giant Frog Initiative: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Order: Reta, Vorka, Chuffy, Stinker, Pussl, Chiggo, Giant Frog, Poog, Old Foofelah.

There will be a surprise round during which only Pussl, Vorka, and the giant frog can act.
Giant Frog Will: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7 -- fail

SURPRISE ROUND

Active Magical Effects:
Hide from animals (Old Foofelah)

Vorka takes a step away from the door (5-ft step to AX 12). "You have tasty-looking ears!" she says to Pussl, pointing at him. As she does so, she throws the ball of fire at Pussl.

Vorka ball of fire at Pussl, ranged touch: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 -- miss

She hisses as the ball just skims above Pussl's head, not inflicting any damage. The ball fizzles out of existence, but a new one forms in her hand.

Next Up: Pussl, Giant Frog, Reta, Vorka, Chuffy, Stinker.
