Deseri |
Nerd :D this is a good thing. Who wants it?
Not wanting to waste the magic, "Is anyone injured?" I have a cure in hand
Turel Garaldo |
Deseri: No one other than Ra-Khefer is injured so I would use the healing on him. Keep in mind you need to make a CL check in order for the healing to work.
Aleris Somciel |
"Thank you! With the way things are right now, I'm sure we'll end up putting it to use sooner rather than later," Aleris responds to Bal Themm's generosity. "If you're certain that you'll be able to hold the gates we'd probably better head on to the Grand Mausoleum. Do you need us to pass any messages along or anything while we're there?"
Polux |
I'll just come out and say it - never played any instance of Zelda. There! :D
"You are welcome" - Polux nods at Bal Themm, his eyes still staring beyond the gate, hands flexing open and closed as if waiting for another attack.
"We continue to the Tooth?" - he inquires of his companions.
Turel Garaldo |
Neither have I...must be too old. I played some Zork II back in the day though :D
Turel nods in agreement with Polux, "Yes, once we have relayed our message to the Grand Mausoleum," he adds giving a brief hug to Bal Themm. "I am...relieved to see you unharmed."
Kito the Scholar |
"Don't we need to bring the holy symbols and blessed water back here from the Grand Mausoleum?"
Deseri |
I was botted into holding a charge of my own cure. And I suck at hitting things that's why I offered. Also I don't think you need to make a check if you know the spell, right?
Moving over to Ra and touching his shoulder.

Kito the Scholar |
You are correct that normally a caster level check wouldn't be required. The problem is that the injuries that Ra took when fighting the mummy resist any attempt to heal them. That is why those injuries need a caster level check. It is also why we aren't using a wand to heal them -- the chances of that working are much lower than us casting a spell.
Polux |
Isn't the Tooths and Hookah along the way?
Aleris Somciel |
I had to dig into the Google Drive folder to find the numbered map for Wati but depending on where we currently are, the Tooth & Hookah is located more to the north and the Grand Mausoleum is more towards the east/southeast part of the city. That said, to save time discussing back and forth we should probably just go to whichever place is closest to our current location first.
Polux |
I'm good with whatever. Was simply in lazy mode to look it up :P Thanks Aleris. Turel will probably want to go to the Mausoleum first. 'Turel and Bal, sitting on a tree...' and all that :D
Harmose Al-Nefer |
“Yes, let’s head to the Mausoleum,” Harmose says. “Is everyone ready?”
Aleris Somciel |
"Ready here! I was born ready," Aleris replies, looking around this way and that for signs for more approaching undead. "Well...I mean, I was probably born ready to eat or something and not slay the walking dead, but you know what I mean..."
_______
I've only played Ocarina of Time and Link to the Past as far as Zelda games go but my husband says those are the best ones anyway :3 We've got Majora's Mask and Windwaker sitting around somewhere too.
Samy |
You make your way back to the Grand Mausoleum, where a middle level lieutenant for the Voices of the Spire (the militant wing of Pharasma's church) receives you and reads Bal Themm's missive with a furrowed brow. "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. The situation at the gate seems serious. Please, take this box of supplies to Acolyte Themm." He motions to a lidless wooden crate full of holy water and holy symbols. "I will also mobilize additional forces to assist her but that will take a little time."
Aleris Somciel |
"Hey, happy to help out since we know you guys could use all the help you can get," Aleris replies. "Um...but while we're here, and I hate to ask, but one of our own has been infected with mummy rot, I think it was. You wouldn't happen to have any spare scrolls or maybe someone who could help us with that, would you? We know supplies and resources are tight right now but we figured we'd ask while we're here."

“We will continue to destroy the undead loose in Wati, but it would really help us do that if Ra-Khefer was healed.”
Samy |
Spellcasting services are fully booked (Panic Level still allows only lvl 1 & 2 spellcasting), but the lieutenant does admit that there are some scrolls of remove curse available. As per Panic Level stats though, they are sold at 100% markup, so a 3rd level scroll that would usually cost 375gp now costs 750gp.
Kito the Scholar |
Kn: Religion: 10 + 6 = 16
Frowning, Kito says "I guess we will have to wait then. As I understand it, to completely cure the affliction you need to both remove the curse and the disease."
"Thank you for your time."
Deseri |

Yep. I wasn't using a wand but my own spell as I had it in hand after the fight
Aleris Somciel |
Kn. Religion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
"Ooh...that's right," Aleris sighs, hanging her head. "And I'm not sure we've got quite that much money now...I know I spent a fair deal of mine at the auction."
She turns and gives Ra-Khefer another encouraging pat on the shoulder. "Don't worry though! We'll get you fixed up good as new as quick as we can!" She turns to the others. "I know it's dangerous, but I guess we'd better get out there and see what else we can do to help get things under control. We should make that deliver back to Bal Themm and then go see what's happening at the Tooth & Hookah like we've been wanting to do."
Qari Falexia |
Qari starts rifling through her pockets. She pulls out a few coins here, a gem there, and more coins. She counts them out. And smiles. ”I didn’t spend much, so I’ve got almost 2000 gold on me right now. If we need to get Ra healed up, I’m happy to help with that.”
Ive got 1900 gold.
Deseri |
I have 367gp, 7sp, 6cp written down. Since all I bought was a wand.
Quickly digging though her purse, "Qari you want to get half of it and I take the other?"
Kito the Scholar |
I have about 1K gold left after the auction.
"I can pay a share as well."
After a brief conference with the lieutenant, Kito says "For one scroll of each, it would be a total of 1500 gp. Then we would have to hope that both managed to get rid of the curse and disease."
Looking to the other three ladies, she suggests "Can we each pay in 375 gold?"
750 gp ea, two scrolls.
Polux |
"Count me in" - Polux nods.
CL check is made with the Scroll CL?
Kito the Scholar |
Yes, it would use the scroll CL. After one of us does a caster level check to activate it.
Note that since it is two rolls, it is very likely one of them will fail.
Samy |
The rolls for condition removal, I believe, are at +5. Since both are 3rd level spells, they require a 5th level caster to have made the scrolls, therefore +5. (Correct my math if I'm wrong, I'm feeling fuzzy headed today.)
So:
1) Pay 750gp for Remove Curse
2) Deseri or Harmose rolls 1d20 + caster_level vs DC 6 to activate scroll, very likely succeeds
3) Roll 1d20+5 against the curse's DC 16
4) If fail, go back to 1. If succeed, move on to 5.
5) Pay 750gp for Remove Disease
6) Deseri or Harmose rolls 1d20 + caster_level vs DC 6 to activate scroll, very likely succeeds
7) Roll 1d20+5 against the curse's DC 16
8) If fail, go back to 5. If succeed, mummy rot removed!
I believe that's how it'll go, but my head's not all here.
Aleris Somciel |
So it basically sounds like we need to decide if we want to take the risk of trying the scrolls now and possibly losing our money or go back out and try to help reduce the panic in the city until the priests can just cast the spells themselves - which I think would reduce but not eliminate the chance of failure, yes?
Turel Garaldo |
Exactly Aleris. I would hate to lose all of that money so I think we should try to reduce the Panic level by clearing out some more areas. We should be able to keep Ra-Khefer alive until then. I would not mind getting him another weapon though he he.
Kito the Scholar |
The probability of it working first time are .5*.5 = 25%, not very good.
I would need to review my old statistics books to figure out the combinational probability for three trys. I believe it is going to be about 33%, but it may be higher.
In any case, it is very costly which is why I originally said we couldn’t afford it
Spellcasting services would only cost 300 for the equivalent thing we are considering paying 1500 for.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
Harmose bites his lip. “Ra, it is up to you. Do you want us to take the scrolls now, or wait until we can get a priest to cast it himself? I don’t mind us spending the money to make you better, but I’m not sure that scrolls will work.”
He looks out at the city. “I think we may need to reduce the panic level a little more.”
Deseri |
Shifting on her feet, "Ra it is up to you. I will happily pay that price again if it fails but I will run out of money soon after."
Ra-Khefer |

Ra grinned.
"Have you not heard? I am of the Pah-Met! No mere disease can take me down!
"Unbreakable, remember?" He said righteously.
"We also like saving money."He said with a broad wink. "Let's save some people first and get a priest to break the curse/disease in gratitude for free!"
Ra-Khefer |
"Though, with respect Deseri, before heading back into the fray I would like to pick up something more substantial than your light mace." He said, shaking Deseri's silver light mace.
Harmose Al-Nefer |
“Then let us sally forth!” Harmose says. “Ready, team?”
Turel Garaldo |
I believe the plan was to deliver the supplies back to Bal Themm and then go see what's happening at the Tooth & Hookah.
Samy |
When you return to Bal Themm, she gives you an additional reward donated by local residents and businesses, consisting of 5 pp, 483 gp, 358 sp, a gold ring worth 35 gp, and an outlandish silk hat worth 75 gp (donated by an enthusiastic haberdasher).
We can round that to 100gp per character, regardless of whether you keep or sell the outlandish silk hat donated by an enthusiastic haberdasher. Do let me know if anyone takes the hat.
Additional rewards:
If Bal Themm’s guards are bolstered with extra supplies from the temple, reduce the Panic Level by 1.
If the PCs deliver her report to the temple of Pharasma and return with the needed supplies, award them an additional 800 XP.
Panic Level: -1
XP: +800Honestly though, I'm seriously considering ditching XP bookkeeping and just levelling when the AP says so. If you want to weigh in on that, one way or another, feel free to give your thoughts on the discussion thread. For reference, in Book 1, you levelled at almost exactly the times the adventure said you should.
Qari Falexia |
Im fine with leveling as the adventure says.
Qari declines the flashy hat...that certainly wasn’t her style. She was ready to go check on the inn however, when the group was prepared to head out again.
Turel Garaldo |

Turel politely declines the offer of the hat, inwardly shuddering in terror all the while.
Polux |
"The people donated this to... To us...?" - Polux stammers as Bal Themm produces the items, not used to such kindness - "Why..?"
I think I know someone who would enjoy this one - a shame we put her in custody. Candy to who guesses the V :D

"I...yeah, we're happy to help but wouldn't the local folk need the money more?" Aleris agrees, both touched but also a little embarrassed by the generosity of Wati's citizens. "Now, the hat...this is a marvelous hat," she continues, unable to help but grin as she takes in its outlandish majesty. "I'm just not sure which of us should wear it! Not right now I mean, things are too ugly out there to risk wearing it right now and getting it lost or damaged, but later...I bet Meehr would get a big kick out of this!"
Deseri |
We still bought the scrolls?
Waving her hands in front of her, "You all did not need to do that."
Grinning at the hat that seems to instill so many strong reactions. Happily putting the hat on her head and smiling at everyone, "Well?"Just a moment of levity.
