Cyrus smiles as Kregimie flies away unsteadily.

"I think you should compliment Kregimie's courage more then mine." he laughs [b]"Braveing the skies like that"

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

I couldnt agree more Cyrus. He's been as stalwart a companion as one could have...and he never seems to stop smiling. Which is very welcome in these dark days.

"Ok but where is he? That mist is thick and I'm not sure flying is, after all, very helping... I'm waiting a minute longer, but then I'm going."

I'm assuming Kregimie will return to tell you want he saw, which is why I didn't put it in spoilers.

M Gnome Rouge 7

Fly:1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Kreg waits to see if can see anything moving, but decides to return to his companions after a while. He is able to land very gracefully, and hopes the others didn't see his instability on the way up.

I relay what I saw.

"Mist and waterfalls? Dark Faë may not be my speciality, but I'm sure the Queen can conjure some wicked creature that might lurk there. Abigail is right, if they could somehow pierce the veil of the mist with their eyes they could rain arrows and worse upon us without giving us the chance to retaliate. Anyone have a good plan to suggest?"

"The waterfalls act as a bottleneck. Since this is the source of the mist, we should be prepared for trouble. I say we walk up to the stones and "negotiate" access with the denizens there. Kregimie could scout, as he can be almost invisible when he wishes. Cyrus, I think you should follow our scout and lead our group, with Koremar at your side and me at your back."

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

Well if they can see us then we should presume that they already have. Abigail has it straight. Lead the way Cyrus and Ill be behind and to the left of you.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

The trail leads up for about 30 feet to a series of slick, mossy boulders that you have to climb over to continue.

DC 20 climb checks; don't forget your animal companions for those of you who have them. I didn't want to just do the checks myself in case you want to get around this obstacle some other way.

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

The elven magus looks up the cliff face dubiously.

Well my friends, it looks like we will actually have to get our hands dirty now. If anyone has rope I'll be glad to tie it off somewhere when I reach the top.

Koremar will wait for the rope if anyone has any and then he'll start to nimbly climb over the boulders.

Climb - 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25

Cyrus looks at the face of the cliff with a slightly nervous look.

"These cursed heights..."

"I would gladly accept your offer, not much of a climber myself... Cyrus trails of as he searches his backpack for his rope "Ahh here it is. Good luck! Don't fall down on us"

Silk, 50 ft.

M Gnome Rouge 7

If the fly spell is still going (5-6 minutes), Kreg will fly up and scout. Otherwise he will offer to climb up first.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

The fly spell is not still active, Kregimie.

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

Koremar laughed off Cyrus's cynical good wishes about falling and had put the rope in his Bag of Holding before the climb. After arriving at the top he set about finding a good place to tie it off. If nothing looked promising he was just going to have to brace off and hold it for the next person.

Perception - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15

"That rope is a blessing! I will climb last."

Meanwhile, Sacha bounces gracefully on the boulders, visibly in its zone of comfort.

Ace takes a second to study the face of the cliff and scrabble up, jumping from rock to rock like a oversized mountain-goat. Weee !! Seeing that Sacha is hesitating, Ace gives the cat a playful bump for motivation.

"Looks like I'm going next then. See you on the upside."

The armoured knight takes his time climbing the braced rope, trusting that Koremar managed to secure the rope. It strains under his weight, but the silk is strong enough.

The DC to climb a rope with something to brace agianinst is only 5, so Cyrus should make it if he uses the Take 10 rule (10+4-5=9, 9>5)

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

While most of you are able to make it up the hill easily, Sacha apparently grew overconfident with her natural ability. The moss gives way beneath her paws and she slides 20 feet back down the boulders. Bruised and battered, she tries again, again struggling to find her footing and slipping back, though only 10 feet this time. 13 hp damage total Finally, the third time appears to be the charm and she reaches the top, rejoining the rest of you.

Past the boulders, the path smooths again and you reach a large bowl-shaped depression in the middle of the ravine that lies half-filled by dual waterfalls descending from sheer cliffs above. The pool seems quite deep, with no bottom discernible from the shoreline, and remains turbulent as water funnels through the rocks to drop deeper into the gorge. Every few seconds a large swell of mist rises from the pool, obscuring all sight before slowly drifting into the forest.

"Now we know were the mist is coming from. But not why - do anyone recall if Devarre mentioned anything about a pond here?"

As he speaks, Cyrus reaches out to touch the bruised cat, as if to pet it.

Lay on hands -> Sacha 3d6 ⇒ (2, 3, 4) = 9 5 uses remaining

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

I dont recall if he did or not. The mist seems to be a natural occurence. Although I admit that Queen Rhoswin has me trepidicious about any mist these days.

The magus scanned the pool for anything out of the ordinary.

You probably don't both need to heal Sacha, so if one of you wants to retract that, let me know.

Koremar, other than the mist regularly coming out of the water, you don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Abigail, you sense overwhelming abjuration magic coming from the base of the northernmost waterfall.

1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21

"It's coming from that last waterfall. Let's have a look."

She doesn't break rank and keeps to the back.

Got plenty of Lay on Hands so I'm still game. Lets just hope that I wont regret that later : )

"That waterfall? We should go and have a look then. Ready your blades, and lets hope we won't have to use them."

Cyrus draws his sword and does a quick check-up of it and his armour. Satisfied that all is well he waits for a short moment when the rest of the group does their similar preparations and when they start moving again Cyrus takes point, with Koremar on his left flank and Ace on his right.

I assume we use the same formation as previously ?

M Gnome Rouge 7

Kreg takes his longspear and steadies it in the direction of the mist. He puts on his fiercest expression, which looks slightly comical on the ever-chipper gnome.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Just want to make sure, you're all going into the water? That's the only way to get to the base of the waterfall. Are the animal companions going as well?

There's a strong current (though it looks like it eases up a bit between the falls) and don't forget visibility is fairly compromised by the mist.

M Gnome Rouge 7

"Should we go on then? Anyone coming besides Cyrus and myself?"

Kreg wouldn't mind checking out the base of the waterfall, but if there is some magic there maybe someone should warn him of what to expect.

Abigail frowns: "I sensed an aura, abjuration, from the fall... How deep is the water? Sacha will follow you, but I'll stay on the shore as long as I can see you. My bow will be more helpful this way."

"Good question Abigail - If it is deeper then four feet I'll probably need help to get out of this suit of armour. Probably safest to remove it anyway ... "

Cyrus starts to remove his armour, preferably with help. He then ties one end of his rope around his belt, then anchors the other end around a nearby three. He then ties Ace to the rope about 5 feet from himself.

"Since we don't know how strong the current is here, this feels safest. Anyone else got a length of rope, or do you want to tie yourself to mine ?"

M Gnome Rouge 7

Kreg turns to Abigail, "So, if I remember what my grandfather taught me about magic, I think that means there may be a trap or alarm up there. It's possible that I could disarm it. I think I should go alone at first."

"I have a rope also. Tell ya what. I'll go up there and fasten my grappling hook to a rock, then through the rope to all of you." Kreg says matter-of-factly.

When others are ready, he will make his way into the falls. He has his grappling hook in one hand with the other end of the rope dangling down with his friends.

Possible rolls needed:

At the moment, I'm assuming Kregimie is going in solo, with the rope.

Surprise round
As Kregimie cuts through the pool, barely fighting the strong currents, he suddenly finds himself caught in a watery vortex. The roiling waters buffet the small gnome 7 hp damage and he finds himself caught, suddenly being swept toward the lower falls and a potentially deadly 50-foot drop.

That's fine, Cyrus. Would one of you mind "DMPCing" Koremar while he's away from his computer? Would really help me out.

I am completely unfamiliar with the magus... I can try to have a look, though, but don't wait for me!

M Gnome Rouge 7

Not sure what I can do, so here is a roll. Just apply whatever mods I need.

1d20 ⇒ 12

Male Elf Bladebound Magus 7

The elven magus was unprepared for the vortex carrying away his gnome friend. It looked like Abigail had the situation well in hand though so Koremar made sure of his own footing so he didnt add to the situation.

Round 1:

Abigial (and Sacha): 25
Koremar: 24
Kregimie: 23
Antagonist: 10
Cyrus (and Ace): 3

Abigail grabs Kregimie, who tries to swim for shore, but can't break free of the vortex of water. The vortex tries to surround the priestess, but in her larger form, it can't seem to move her.

However, next to her, a massive wave seems to rise up out of nowhere and slams into the cleric. Still, her armor seems to serve her well and other than a drenching, she suffers little ill effects from the seeming attack.

Seeing the fearsome vortex attempting to grab his companions, Cyrus vague recollects reading about a similar occurrence in an old dusty tome once. While he thunders down into the water blade first, he tries to recall what creature that usually causes these kind of turmoil.

Koremar was delighted to see that Abigail was able to get ahole of Kreg. He didnt like the pull of the water on him and the sight of the wave hitting the cleric had him muttering the incantation to lend him a bull's strength.

"Stay with me Kregimie! Sacha, attack the moving waves!"

Round 2:

Abigail (and Sacha): 25
Koremar: 24
Kregimie: 23
Watery antagonists: 10
Cyrus (and Ace): 3

Cyrus, you believe you're facing a pair (that you've seen so far, at least) of water elementals.

Your blade cuts through the vortex, and while some of it seems no different than as if it had just passed through a normal wave, you also feel it seem to bite into something, water somehow slightly more solid than the rest of the falls around you.

Ace launches himself into the water, but the current appears to be too strong for him and he begins getting swept downstream, quickly heading toward the falls.

As Koremar casts his spell, Abigail tries to pull Kregimie as he tries to swim for freedom, but can't seem to get any traction against the strong pull of the elemental. I thought the drag rules would work well here, with you operating against the elemental's vortex. While Abigail seems to be too large to be hurt by the water, Kregimie continues to be buffeted by the pounding. 13 hp

Sacha also tries to leap into the water, but like Ace, is quickly pulled downstream toward the falls. The strong current makes it a DC 20 swim check.

The second elemental rears up out of the water, two armlike pods seeming to extend from the mass, one of them slamming Abigail in the face. 10 hp

"Elementals! They are elemem - Ahhw - what the?"

Cyrus is interrupted mid-sentence by the sharp yank of the rope connecting him with Ace, pulling him away from the fight.

"Hang on there Ace!"

Ace and Cyrus is still connected with a rope (and a three) so I guess Cyrus also have to make that swimming test.

Swim 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

If Cyrus makes it against all odds he will try to haul Ace towards him, and if he fails he will try to haul himself and Ace back towards safer water with the rope.

Cyrus (and Ace): 3

As Sacha again pulls unsuccessfully at Kregimie, the gnome continues to be unable to escape the vortex. The water continues to slam against him, and he can feel his bones creaking against the pressure. 6 hp to Kregimie

Sacha, continuing to be unable to advance against the waterfall, moves perilously closer to the edge -- a 50-foot drop and potential death looming below her.

Meanwhile, Koremar leaps into the fight, his blade slashes through one of the elementals, spraying water though also finding a strange solidity. 4 hp damage; elementals can't be critted

As Cyrus barely keeps his footing, he's able to use the rope to keep Ace from floating any closer to the deadly drop, though his faithful companion is unable to make any headway against the current back to shore or the fight. The precarious situation leaves him open to the second elemental's attacks, but neither seems to be able to penetrate his armor, leaving him only blinking against the sting of the water.
