I wasn't entirely sure either, that's why I phrased it as a suggestion to make sure.

If its any comfort, I am struggling with knowing when to move on from rp scenes in my own game, so I can say with first hand experience, it is not easy, and you are doing fine.

Yeah, seriously, me too. It's bloody hard.

Thanks, guys. Definitely interesting seeing the difference in pacing and whatnot between PBP and RL games. Just feel free to holler in this thread too if you think I'm waiting too long before moving on to the next "scene."

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I've figured out what Edrukk can't roll even halfway decent. Another character of mine keeps rolling 20s on perception checks.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hopefully the dice will eventually turn in your favor. My RL game on Sunday, I couldn't even roll in the single high digits. I think I tried every one of my d20s and they all sucked. It was just brutal, culminating in me warning one of the other players to watch out for traps and then me forgetting to actually even bother to look for them and getting poisoned for my trouble. (And of course my character's so arrogant he couldn't even acknowledge that he'd been poisoned...)

Vistarius/Xanwell's not posted in a while, obviously. If need be, I'll run him in combat, but hopefully he'll pop his head back in soon.

However looking at his recent posts, sounds like he's got a lot going on and won't be joining in:

So things have been even more hectic than I wanted them to be, and thus I have to apologize. I'm not cancelling the game like I am pretty much all other involvement with these forums, but it may be a few more days before I can get started.

At any rate, I think we'll probably need to replace him. Anyone want to suggest any favorites from the last recruitment thread?

http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/community/gaming/connection/recruiting 3ReplacementKingmakerPBPPlayers

I figure it's probably easiest to cull from there and see if whoever we like best is still interested in joining in. Wilkes seems interesting, or possibly Betony Avilia (I realized my disdain to cavaliers probably won't apply as much to this campaign as there'll be more opportunity for mounted combat than usual).

I might also pitch the idea of a Houndmaster cavalier if anyone's interested (from the Superstar archetypes round), since I thought they sounded like they'd be made of awesome.

Betony would be a good solid choice; she was rped a bit in the tavern thread, and seemed like a fun character, and one that would fit reasonably well into this group. Her wolf would also ensure a bit of front line muscle, which without Xanwell, we would be lacking a bit of.

Hey, now!

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I didn't mean to say that we would be out of front line fighters, just a little short, which for a party this big could be an issue in protecting the casters. Betony also really seems to be a good nature based character which would be useful in the exploration portions of the campaign. Others may fit the various roles left vacant by Xanwell as well, but Betony is the one I know about, and so the one I can comment on.

Just kidding. I checked her profile and it looks like she's already picked up a game, but it can't hurt to ask.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Aside from Betony, who looks like she got accepted into another game already, I would probably go with Havrin Stahl, the ranger. That gives us a good nature type capable of tracking that can be front line if need be.

There's another cavalier who originally posted in the first recruitment thread that's still looking for a game

Sorry guys, I'm going out of town tonight until Tuesday. My Ultimate Frisbee team is going to a tournament in Vegas, and I won't have a laptop with me. I might be able to find a hotel computer at times, but probably only once or twice: the games keep us busy during the day, and the drunken shenanigans at night. If it comes to combat, (or anything else important) feel free to control my character.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

If Rupert's not available for a few days, would someone else like to play him? Considering he's playing the key role at the moment, I feel like I'd be playing with myself if I do it (since I've already got the bandits, Vandar and Xanwell), which has its place but isn't as satisfying as playing with others. ; )

Otherwise, I'm kind of inclined to wait for his return.

Male Wandering Nomad 3

If it's necessary, and anyone has the time to pick up for me, go ahead. However, I feel like most of the talking has been dealt with. Seeing Edrukk's bluff roll, I'd expect combat to break out any minute now, and so long as Rupert's first action is something along the lines of blowing that whistle, the rest of the weekend should be straight forward tactical decisions, which I'd trust to any one of us.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I could probably handle the tactical aspects of running Rupert. It'll mean splitting posts between Edrukk and Rupert for the weekend, so fewer posts each, but it shouldn't be a problem.

Male Human Dad/17

I'm going to be out of town this weekend for a family wedding. Won't be able to post until probably late Sunday/early Monday.
Thanks,
V

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

OK, we've got three players out, so let's call a break for the weekend and pick up Monday. I'll post the first round of action and when people return they can post their second rounds.

Hi everyone, thanks for having me in the game. The DM has graciously allowed me to re-roll my ability scores, since the original ones were more "better than average" than heroic. So here they are:

Ability score rolls:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 5) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 3) + 6 = 15
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 = 9
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 5) + 6 = 17
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 6 = 11

Well, definitely more varied than my first run at it. Higher highs and lower lows. I can definitely make an effective character from it though.

Welcome!

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

If you want to take one more shot at those rolls, Draelen, feel free. You can use the better of the two arrays.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Welcome and it will be interesting to see what you come up with, Draelen.

Quick question, are we rolling for hit points or using averaged? Obviously Draelen has max for 1st level, but his war hound won't.

Hit point rolls just in case they're needed

War Hound HP rolls:

2d8 ⇒ (8, 5) = 13

Third time's the charm?

Ability score rolls:

2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 3) + 6 = 14
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 = 16
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 2) + 6 = 13
2d6 + 6 ⇒ (3, 1) + 6 = 10

Nope! I'm actually fine with the ones that I rolled above (17,15,15,11,9,9), they should work fine for my character.

I'm mostly finished, still doing all the accounting for gear, but that's the only thing left, so I'm pretty much ready to go.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

People can choose either average or rolled hit points. I've got no preference. 1s can be re-rolled.

The character should be ready to go, let me know if you have any questions about anything on it. I decided to go with averaged hit points.... not sure if I trust the dice to be good to me after those ability score rolls.

I've read up on the game thread and should be ready to be brought in whenever it is convenient. I figure that Draelen was probably delayed on the road (maybe his warhound was injured and was lame for several days), so he missed the initial party leaving Restov. He's been marching hard, trying to catch them ever since.

Good luck in the ambush everybody!

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I think you need more weapons. You don't have enough yet to qualify as a walking armory.

Erdrukk's probably right, although I'm pretty much out of money, I'm sure that I can fit in a few clubs and a sling somewhere :)

But, hey, if you're going off to start a new life in the Greenbelt, best to go prepared (and the net and whip will hopefully come in handy if I get to start my own kennel and try to capture some wolves to cross-breed in).

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

Don't worry. Edrukk is a weaponsmith so if the issue really needs to be fixed, it can be.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Other than the lack of weapons (come on, it's a dangerous world out there, you probably want at least something!), the only other thing I wasn't sure about was the handle animal (war hounds) skill. Where did you get the additional +4?

Also could you just add that you're in the Order of the Lion somewhere in addition to your background? (For my easy of reference.)

Also, a link to the Houndmaster archetype, so I don't have to look it up all the time (http://paizo.com/paizo/messageboards/paizoPublishing/rpgsuperstar/round2/h oundMasterCavalier).

Thanks! I'll get you in as soon as I can, though it won't be until after this combat.

Actually, I'll be out of town this coming weekend (Friday through late Tuesday/early Wednesday) and don't know how much Internet access I'll have, so it may be a week or so. Sorry about that.

The +4 bonus to handle animal for my war hounds is from the Link ability for animal companions. It only applies to my "pets" that I get at 1st and 4th level:

Link (Ex)
A druid can handle her animal companion as a free action, or push it as a move action, even if she doesn’t have any ranks in the Handle Animal skill. The druid gains a +4 circumstance bonus on all wild empathy checks and Handle Animal checks made regarding an animal companion.

Updated the profile with a link to the Houndsman archetype and a note about being of the Order of the Lion. Let me know if there's anything else missing.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Hey all, as mentioned, I'm out of town through Wednesday. I suspect I'll have some Internet access and time to post, but I'm not at all certain. Feel free to get Rupert healed up if you want and roleplay/decide your plans for the prisoners. I'll deal with Xanwell when I get a chance, but don't act as if he's missing; he'll show up in the clearing very shortly.

Draelen, I'll try to get you in ASAP. Thanks for your patience.

No problem, I'm following the game thread, pretty entertaining so far...

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

That works out, because I'm going out of town again this weekend as well.

Just as a head's up, it's frisbee tournament season, and that means I'll be travelling most every weekend for the next month or two. I'm always fine with somebody running my character while I'm gone--I'd hate to be a cause of the game slowing down and delaying everyone else's fun. I just wanted to let you guys know, in case there is ever animosity or confusion.

Male Dwarf Bard (savage skald) 3

I find taking Saturday and Sunday off or at least having them be slower is fine with me and works well with my schedule as well, Rupert, so you are not alone.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Do we want to have a policy for lack of posting?

Obviously skipping a day or even two is going to happen sometimes, and I don't want to get rid of anyone who wants to play, but Wandslinger/Lirisial's only posted twice since Feb. 28 (two and a half weeks). Looking through his aliases, he doesn't seem to have posted much elsewhere either, so I don't know if he's having some RL issues/posting problems, but there's only so much NPC'ing I want to do with PCs.

This is still my first PBP game to get beyond the first week or so, so I don't know if there's a standard timeframe in these sorts of things.

(FWIW, if someone does want to stop playing, I completely understand. I'd just ask you let us all know, though.)

Draelen, haven't forgotten you. Hope to get you in very shortly.

Given that we seem to be at a convenient point to insert new people, I would say make the call now if it's going to be made. I would say reopen the thread to get a new healer type, and make a list of possible alternates from whatever else is provided, or see if one of the people who wanted to play an oracle is still bouncing around. Randall might still be around as he is DMing at least one active game. Between an oracle, the witch, and the bard, we should be able to cover healing well enough at higher levels once everyone gets more spell slots to work with.

Male Human Rogue 3 (Swashbuckler)

If Lirisial has been that inactive indeed, without an explanation or warning, I'd be inclined to move on without her.

I'm struggling with the same issue in a PbP that I'm DMing. I think that missing a full week of posting unannounced is a pretty good sign that someone has dropped the game. I posted a warning message saying that we'd replace them if they didn't post to let us know what was going on in the next few days and then move forward with recruiting a new player.

Which reminds me, I need to go post that recruitment thread now....

It is indeed a shame that we seem to have lost Lirisial. Wandslinger didn't strike me as someone who would leave a pbp game without warning. I think we should post a "Wandslinger, where did you go?"-thread in the Gamer connection section and give it a few days before we start looking for a replacement.

RPG Superstar 2014 Top 16, RPG Superstar 2012 Top 16

Perhaps I'll do that, Patrik, and start taking applications, just in case.

On a different note, feel free to move that point in your bluff skill to spellcraft for Treshiell. I suspect she should never have a point in bluff. (Though you/she cracks me up almost every time you post, I have to admit.)

Thanks, i've made the update to her statblock. I'm glad you're enjoying Treshiell :)

You might watch the current thread taking submissions for Kingmaker, and see if there are any ideas left after the selection that would fit the healer role. Personally, I am enjoying all of the current characters; the varying personalities are great.

So, grad school rammed into me from out of nowhere, and is still attempting to dance all over me until I'm a ruined mess. I'm desperately trying to open up some time for all the games I'm in, and it's slowly working. Just bear with me and I can still contribute!

If you guys want to move at a faster pace, then I can understand that, and will make way for those who can stay more active if you so choose.

Wow, 'Slinger, you managed to post at the perfect time, as I was literally just posting for a replacement (now edited to an Emily Litella-esque "never mind"). I'm willing to wait if you can try to give it more time (I had lots of grad student friends, so understand timing can be difficult) and will run you as an NPC. I'd just appreciate a head's up if you're going to not be around for a bit.

Male Wandering Nomad 3

Speaking of heads ups, this coming week is my Spring Break (whooo!) and I'm going on a road trip with some friends. We'll be stopping at various places along the way, mainly houses of other friends, so I'll have internet periodically, but for the next week my posts will probably be rather limited.

EDIT: Also, not next weekend but the weekend after that I will be gone, and two weeks after that, and then my frisbee season is basically over.

Male Human Dad/17

Just an FYI,
I'm going to be out of town on vacation this week from Tuesday through Saturday and in the interest of Domestic Tranquility I won't be brining my laptop with me.
I will have my phone with me and can follow the thread but won't be able to post much, if at all.
So feel free to DMPC my character as necessary.
Thanks,
V
