Round 4

Varrel comes in to a graceful landing, his boots touching down in front of a rather startled wererat as he attempts to send it to sleep...

Wererat #5 save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22 - it blinks and carries on.

Shakhan is in the zone, axe swinging towards the next foe - which is poor Wererat #5! Shakhan's blow misses, however.

Wererat #4 closes with Gronk, and attacks with a short sword.

Wererat #4 attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19, damage 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5

Ashe finally manages to make himself heard. Wererat #5 stops its advance and turns towards the Paladin, saying "Why are you attacking us, then?"... at which point two of Una's bolts thud into its back and it topples over, stone dead!

Wererat #3 says "We thought he had the best interests of our people at heart...". From the north wall, Wererat #1 says "I surrender... we didn't mean any harm"

Gronk's mystical flail continues its assault, the second blow striking Wererat #4. He reaches out to touch it, gathering his powers, but fails to connect...

To sum up the situation:

Wererat #1: Is standing looking at Ashe, over by the north wall.
Wererat #2: Dead.
Wererat #3: Healed by Ashe, still huddled on the floor.
Wererat #4: In combat with Gronk still.
Wererat #5: Dead.
Wererat #6: Being healed by Ashe this round.

All dire rats are dead or fled. The rat swarm has gone back whence it came. And the shrieker is dead too.

OK, next round!

[Megan: Are the Dead Wererats 'dead- DEAD' {Into negative hit point greater than their constitution scores} or just unconscious currently - at negative hit points, dying but not dead yet? I'm asking cause Ashe can save those not in negative hit points greater than their constitution scores. ALSO.. Ashe is NOT healing the wererats... merely stabilizing them from dying. He has not expended even one of his Lay On Hands paladin abilities. His 'Sacred Touch' is a {Faith} Trait.. it has unlimited uses.

I think we also needed a list of wererats before last round as Una targeted wererat number 6# from her post... which would not make sense since he was already down and recently stabilized by Ashe - unless she is specifically trying to sabotage all Ashe's efforts. Which is fine .. but it needs to be made clear that IS what is going on.]

------

Ashe speaks looking at the party, "Are were done with the fighting now.. they want to surrender?"

Then addressing the Wereats, "Girrigz 'the warmonger' does NOT have your best interests in mind... he is fueled by mere hatred and lust for violence! Embattled as Korvosa is now it is STILL powerful enough to begin another 'purge' of the were-beings living below its streets... something that Eris Yelloweyes does not want to see happen..as I'm sure neither do you! Girrigz would only start another war the were -beings of this city could NOT win."

"We are only here to end Girrigz's threat... HE is our prey. I am here to kill him..."

Una stares grumpily at the wererats and Ashe.

"Fine, if they want to surrender, let them. I'll leave it to you to determine that they actually surrender and don't just pretend to to save their skins."

She goes to the far wall where her crossbow bolt flew and begins searching for it.

OK, the situation begins to stabilise.

Wererat #4 puts up his sword and changes, his body squirming horribly for a moment as he assumes his human form.

"OK," he says. "Are we making a terrible mistake here? We thought Girrigz made sense, that we had to defend ourselves against the walkers above, and that the best defence is a good offence, but maybe we are wrong."

Ashe, Wererat #5 (looking like a pincushion) is close to death, Wererat #2 is out cold and ought to be relatively easy to save.

Wererat #1 says "Girrigz is our leader, but if you guys are correct we may have made a mistake in following him... unless that is you intend to kill us - he looks hard at Shakhan - just because we did follow him."

Turning to regard wererat 4# and 1# Ashe says, "No. We are not here seeking vengeance upon you for being misled... only Girrigz is our target. My... companion's eagerness is only from the evil reputation that wererats have. We were asked to spare your lives - if we could, by the word of a woman wererat... Eris 'Yeloweyes'... who IS NOT EVIL... and it is only because of her example that I am being merciful! She is NOT EVIL... so potentially you may turn from evil. Gather your wounded, leave and follow her example... turn from the path of evil and go in peace."

Ashe positions himself in the middle of the room ready to react one way or another... he knows 'typically' wererats are conniving, devious, treacherous, evil and chaotic creatures. But right now, they are a distraction... from the even More Reprehensible enemies of Korvosa {those posing as its leaders and saviors offering healing while spreading disease and painful Death to the innocent} - there are BIGGER 'fish to fry' and he wants this resolved quickly! His desire is to encourage Eris 'Yelloweye's' efforts... hopefully by being merciful in this instance.. it will have longer reaching effects when Eris' evident change of heart and trust in the kindness and mercy of Korvosa's 'Grey Knight' shows by example - it can have positive results to the other wererats.

Moving through the northernmost entrance to the cavern, your nostrils are assailed by the vile smell of charred hair and flesh, vying with the general sewer miasma. The scrapes and scratches of tiny claws cover the uneven walls of this crudely carved cave. Amid these marks, dozens of dark, fist-sized holes dot the stone like a rocky bee's hive. Hundreds of bones — of rats, horses, fish, and humans — lie scattered across the floor, and a cleft in the earthen wall leads off to the east. There is also an opening to the south, and the light of a fire flickers there.

Worse, the remnants of the rat swarm are here, mostly injured from the magic used against them earlier. They cover the floor, a writhing mass of agonised rats, those capable of movement nipping at others in their pain.

Ashe is advancing cautiously through C5. Apart from dead and dying rats, which squeak as they are pushed aside by his boots, he sees nothing untoward on the floor here. Looking south towards C3, he sees several pieces of broken furniture, dried hay, and fragments of lumber burning in a small fire at the center of this open, ruggedly carved cavern. Short alcoves filled with filthy, oversized rats' nests dot the walls, and the disgusting drip of polluted black condensation echoes through the chamber. A thick flow of sewage spreads across the western edge of the chamber, seeping from a crack in the western wall to another in the south.

The only occupants of the cavern are several fat black rats are tormenting an alley cat which is imprisoned in a cargo-crate cage.

Even though Ashe had never been able to keep a cat as a pet for long in a city with flocks of Imps roosting about. It always seemed as if the devilish pests took perverse pleasure from killing cats in as many horrific ways as possible.

Ashe made no comment but his brief motion to move to the caged cat's assistance was obvious to all.

Ashe whispers to Gronk {as he cannot see Varrel}, 'There is one evil being down this hallway... inform the others.'

Ashe prepares to move down the hallway hefting his shield & shortsword.. But holds position awaiting direction for Una.

[OOC: Thanks Megan, loot updated with new stuff]

Half-Orc Cleric 6 of Groteus AC 21/ f f20/ t11, HP 38/38, F8/R4/W11

Gronk turns and mutters to Varrel, Sir Asherick says one evil being down hallway. Remember evil is not only potential danger. Could still be mercs, animals, and traps.

More loyal wererats as well.

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

Una moves along, finally, following behind Ashe.

"Aye, we're ready Ashe. Watch for traps again. And don't be afraid to go slow if you need to."

Ashe glances Una's direction.. giving only a silent nod of his vizored helm in acknowledgement.

Pausing for a few moments Ashe analyzes the trace of evil he is detecting [3 round scan] getting a feel for its exact location and strength.

{OOC: This is relative. Megan is the Evil being/creature/ Item Caster level greater than 5 - Ashe's current HD? If so it is a strong source of evil, I'd like to know if possible}

Ashe creeps along the narrow hallway shield held high in a maximum defensive posture as he moves slowly down the hall toward the source of evil ready for the inevitable ambush.

Not sure how to put it in game terms but Ashe, you sense that the source of evil is about as powerful as you are a source of good!

Ashe advances toward the source of evil ready to do battle.. glad the party is letting him proceed first as he is immune to contracting the disease of Lycanthropy.

Alchemical Silver Shortsword glowing with magic in hand, he advances shield at the ready...

Human Crossbow Weapon Master 4 / Sniper Rogue 2 / Hunter 2

Una follows along, loading her crossbow with another alchemical silver crossbow bolt.

Advancing cautiously, Ashe comes to the next cavern. Several crates, mismatched boxes, and poorly kept weapons lie stacked and scattered about this dingy stone chamber. Pinned to the side of one stack is a crudely sketched map of Korvosa. A large rat’s nest, strewn with mouldy pillows, fills an elevated hollow in the south wall.

A large and ferocious-looking wererat, in hybrid form and with a chain shirt adorned with 2 immense shoulder-plates, rises up with a rapier in his hand.

"Walkers-above are not welcome here!" he snarls. "Why are you intruding into my domain?"

And here's a map - Ashe is now in C6 with the rest of you tagging along behind.
