Bria's arrow strikes the man at the bow of the boat. Liz's arrow lands near the man, but skirts off the wooden planks.
The men aim their crossbows and take shots at different members of the party. After they fire, the men reload their crossbows.
M1 vs Bria AC: 1d100 ⇒ 561d20 + 3 ⇒ (15) + 3 = 181d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
M2 vs Liz AC: 1d100 ⇒ 491d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
M3 vs Garuneh AC: 1d100 ⇒ 141d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 41d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
The shieldless dwarf is struck with a crossbow bolt along with Elizabeth. (5 & 7 pod, respectively)
Captain Walren cries out, "They are shooting us! Return fire, return fire!"
All Heroes May go!

Garuneh Lasandarman |

Garuneh moves past Liz to get a better shot, and unleashes a magic stone.
Magic Stooone: 1d20 + 4 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (18) + 4 + 1 - 2 = 21
for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
I have to move to G6 to get two range increments, right?

Aldous Mor'esti |

"Let's see if this works. It's new to me."
Aldous casts sleep
Full round action, waiting until all allies fire at the baddies, so you can move me to the end of the init order
DC 15 Will or fall asleep for 3 min.

Garuneh walks across the desk just in front of Elizabeth to throw off her shot. He gives a sheepish shrug with an apologetic look on his face.
Garuneh then loads one of his magical marbles and launches it. It says across the seas with a faint stream of light and knocks the second pirate in the arm.
Bria coolly draws back her bow and with natural grace strikes the first pirate. He appears to be quite bloodied.
Aldous pulls out some rose petals. He tosses them in the air with an arcane chant. As they fall, he blows them to sail over to the pirate ship.
Gunder is up. So Aldous, bad guys will go, and then the Sleep spell will go off. What square are you targeting, Aldous?

Round 2
The sailboat continues to move closer to the Black Mist.
All pirates fire their crossbows the party member that are directly across the seas from them.
M1 Crossbow vs Liz AC: 1d100 ⇒ 911d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
M2 Crossbow vs Garuneh AC: 1d100 ⇒ 791d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 191d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
M1 Crossbow vs Bria AC: 1d100 ⇒ 11d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 131d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Garuneh is struck by a bolt, piercing his left thigh.
"Prepare to board!" the bloody leader calls out. Everybody man then drops their crossbow and readies their shield. The second and third in command take a 5' step forward.
The rose petals continue to flutter across the boat's deck. Pollen sprinkles down upon the men.
1d2 ⇒ 1
M1 Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 10
The lead pirate on the boat's bow collapses onto the deck, asleep.
All heroes may go!

Bria Svartlensbinsbanedottir |

Bria sees her designated target collapse. Judging there isn't time to do an adequate job of penetrating another with arrows, she drops her bow and equips her axe and shield.
She waits until the two vessels are near to touching. She intends to board the other craft and smite anyone awake.

Aldous Mor'esti |

"And see your fellows fall! Surrender now and we'll let you live!"
Aldous steps behind the mast and unleashes another Magic Missile from his wand.
20 charges remain. 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (4, 4) + 2 = 10 damage to M2.

Bria strikes an imposing figure as she readies her axe and shield on the edge of the boat in the shadowy light. She looks like she can take on the world by herself.
You are using the Msw dwarf war axe & +1 bashing shield now, right?
Aldous unleashes another volley of melon-sized rainbow colored orbs. They pound into the pirate, almost knocking him off the deck. He still stands, bloody, but standing.

The ships are 30' away from each other. From Gunder to the nearest bad guy is 55'. You are aware there is a Battle Map right? Link posted at the top of the page as always.
Gunder & Garuneh are up.

Garuneh Lasandarman |

Garuneh slings off another magic stone, this time at M2.
Magic S: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 1 = 25
for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19
for: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
"ha ha!" he shouts heroically. He then uses his move action to duck down, pragmatically.

Gunder lies in wait among the shadows, waiting for the boat to continue to inch forward.
Garuneh fires off another marble, cracking the man in the head. It blows out his eye socket and he falls down dying.
Round 3
The sailboat reaches the Black Mist. The lonely man looks nervously around at his fallen companions.
"Oh, frak this!"
The pirate pulls out a flask. Sensing the threat, Gunder emerges from the shadows with the simple command of Drop!
Will Save: 1d20 ⇒ 19
The man shakes off the spells effect and tosses the flask at the Black Mist's sails.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 91d6 ⇒ 4
Striking the mast, the flask bursts open into gas and fire. The explosion quickly sets the sails aflame. The explosion forces the man back 5'.
"No, my sails! Ewem, the rigging, the rigging!" Captain Wlren cries out.
The Captain and Ewem quickly try to untie a series of knots and loops.
Heroes may go!

Garuneh Lasandarman |

"So, shall we see what these erstwhile pirates have in the way of loot? Consider us part of the Nirmathas Reappropriation Committee," Garuneh says with a grin to the presumably dead or unconscious group of pirates. "Cap'n, do we have a few minutes to search before continuing on our way?"

Liz adds a quick nick to the last man standing.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Gunder follows up with his Command by opening a port of space under the man. The man looks down into the abyss and for just a moment, a tiny moment, he saw a tentacle appear around the edge of the Void. The man lets out a mad yell and falls to the ground, unconscious.
Congratulations, you defeated 3 Molthuni Privateers. Each PC earns 240 XP.
Captain Walren becomes immediately relieved to see minimal damage has been done to his sail. "Ewem, get up there and patch up what you can so we can get into harbor."
He then walks over to the Mist's edge and looks at the privateer's boat.
"What a piece of junk. No wonder they moved so slow. Ye' should board her and quickly look around for spoils. Then put a few holes in her bottom to scuttle. Otherwise, other privateers from coming along to claim her. Be quick about it, there maybe other raiders near by."

Aldous Mor'esti |

"Aye, captain!" Aldous, getting in the spirit, affects a jaunty piratical swagger as he checks out the pirate's boat.
"Dragon, keep a lookout up top, would ya?"
"Bria, would you kindly make sure these fellows donate their belongings to the Reappropiration Committee's campaign fund, while I check out the boat?"
1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 perception, as he searches the boat.

Gunder Undertable |

Once he sees that the battle has ended, Gunder looks after those who were wounded - and casts a healing spell on everyone who needs one.
Last chance to get a CLW. Just roll for hit points yourself if you were harmed.
Afterwards he attempts to follow the others onto the pirate ship. But as he jumps, he slips and falls into the dark water. He sinks immediately.
You could swear you saw a tentacle grabbing him and dragging him down into the water.
When you rummage through his personal belongings in the cabin, you find his ring of swimming in his backpack. Ironically, he forgot to put it on.

Captain Walren walks over to the edge of the boot with his hat in his hand.
"I cannot see him. He's drown too deep. The Locker has him now. He was a good lad. In the short time we sailed together, I liked him."
Searching the bodies of the privateers, the party finds 3 sets of the following:
Potion of cure light wounds; longsword, light crossbow with 18 bolts, leather armor, & heavy steel shield
There are also 5 alchemist's fires.
The boat is loaded with mostly worthless remnants from past hauls. But Garuneh & Elizabeth find a small lock box stashed away in the cabin.
Liz takes a few moments and is able to pop the lock
Inside the party finds 12 pp, 28 gp and 16 sp, a privateers' charter signed by the Molthuni governor, and a metallic token.
It radiates strong conjuration magic, but you don't know what the item is.

Aldous Mor'esti |

"Hmm...some kind of magic metal token. Wonder what it does."
Upon seeing Gunder sink to the bottom: "Noooooo....another one gone, just like that."
In elven: "Go in peace, and find your endless happiness, my friend. You will be missed."

Garuneh Lasandarman |

"I can't believe he is gone...did anyone see something, like an octopus? I didn't think those were in lakes...perhaps it was a darkmantle bent on revenge..."
"humph, fairly unsuccessful pirates. I suppose that's why they are dead now. Well, may nature's kindly scavengers feast on their bodies, and all that, praise the Green," he says nonchalantly.

Aldous Mor'esti |

"Eating intelligent humanoids is a good way to turn oneself into a horrid ever-hungry undead creature. Not like frog's legs or dungeon-monsters, after all."
Swinging one of the longswords experimentally, Aldous shrugs, "Hm. So that's what these things are like. Haven't used one in ages."

There is nothing else of worth to be found on the ship.
After the sails are fixed, loot hauled onboard and the ship is scuttled, the Black Mist sails on in the twilight.
Within a few hours, Tamran draws near. In the dark, Tamran glitters with hundreds of tiny lights, emanating from the windows and lamps that dot the city. It has the look of a new town, built primarily of wood, though some older buildings linger here and there, many showing signs of damage from the war with Molthune to the south. Cracked walls and burnt remnants can be seen even from this distance, fresh scars from the long conflict.
Once the Black Mist has docked, Captain Walren puts out his meaty paw to shake each of the party members as they disembark.
"Thank you once again for your assistance. They are getting braver every year. I hear if you take that charter to the militia, you'll get a reward. If you are looking for a place to stay I recommend Gar’s Last Meal. It is a good, safe establishment down near the water."
The captain makes a noticeable effort to assist Bria off his ship.
"Of course, for you, you can stay in my cabin any time. I will be here a few days and Ewem could use the shore leave," Captain Walren says with a wink.

An armorer who appears to be closing down for the night says that he will buy the items for half the going rate. (Figure out what you want to sell, then 1/2 of that from the CRB price)
There are temples to Erastil, Gorum & Iomedae that could provide most divine service. You are pointed to Echgter's Enchatments for any other magical inquires.
