Seeing that Kilarra and Vorya are deep in a discussion with the troublesome -- or cowardly -- dwarf, Uruelleth decides to let them work, although he remains close enough that he could swiftly respond to a fight.

He folds his arms and stands attentive to their conversation out of the corner of his eye. It's not long, however, before he is called away by Thrim.

"I should be your lieutenant? I am fine with this. What additional duties will you need me to do?"

While learning the use of the siege weapons, he makes some small talk with the dwarven gunner, asking him where he learned to work with these massive weapons.

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

Jimell shakes his head at Talia’s words. “Well you’re certainly humble, I’ll give you that much. But you shouldn’t doubt yourself. The monarchs didn’t pick you for nothing. I’m sure you’ll find the skills you need when the time comes. Speaking of which…”

The man trails off as something catches his eye. He looks away from Talia and stares at what he sees in the distance.

-----

Thrim smiles when Uruelleth agrees to be his lieutenant. The dwarf says, “You won’t be just another ballistae crew member, for starters. You’ll be overseeing all of them. If I need to relay orders, they’ll go through you. If you see anything that needs improving, I expect you to speak up and tell me. If the ballistae crews need a bit of prodding or encouraging, you’ll need to be able to administer that, too. With eight different ballistae on board, you’ll probably have to oversee at least half at anytime if we come under fire. I can give you some tips, but I suspect you…”

The master gunner’s words come to a halt as he looks out over one of the ship’s ballistas at something in the distance.

-----

Makori just listens as Talivar speaks. She betrays very little emotion on her face, but seems to nod slightly when he mentions that they’re all damaged in some way.

The navigator’s emotionless demeanor fractures as Talivar finishes. She says, “Those bastards killed your wife and took your daughter? I would hope I would do the same thing you’re doing now if I were in your position. Since I’m not, money will have to do as motivation. For what it’s worth, I hope you…” Makori stops speaking as she looks out a window in the Captain’s quarters.

“That’s not good…”

-----

Ragnar seems overwhelmed by the number of questions Kilarra asks him. Still, it appears he does his best to answer them truthfully, if only to avoid a beating.

“Death. She threatened me and my family with death. I would tell you again that she came to me at night, but if you know anything about dwarves, you know we have exceptionally good eyesight in even the darkest conditions. I thought she was short, but she might have just been hunched over as she wore a heavy cloak, so I couldn’t see her face. She wasn’t wearing weapons that I could see, but again, she could have been hiding a horse with that heavy cloak of hers.

“She approached me at the inn we were staying at. The rest of the crew was already asleep or drinking at other taverns. I was just preparing to set sail earlier in the day. We weren’t sure whether or not you people would show up that day or the next, so we were ready to go for most of the day till we finally got word around dusk that we wouldn’t be departing till the next day.”

Ragnar Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20

Ragnar narrows his eyes before pointing at Kilarra and saying, “I don't trust you."

Then he looks over at Vorya and says, "But I’ve told you what you want to know. What about that protection you were talking….”

The dwarf’s words are cut off abruptly as a thunderous noise sounds off in the distance.

-----

What Jimell, Thrim, Makori, and Ragnar saw becomes apparent to all of you as you turn to the ship’s starboard side which is currently facing to the northeast. In the distance, a section of the Eye of Abendego appears to be behaving in a particularly volatile manner. There’s a flash of lightning and another boom sounds from far away.

Captain Fineas and First Mate Driara rush onto the deck at the commotion and both quickly assess the situation.

“If you plan to do any of those drills you were talking about,” Captain Fineas says, “I suggest you get started right away or they may not be much use.”

Makori has also joined the others on deck at this point and says, “The Captain’s right. Storms like the one that’s brewing there are extremely unpredictable. It could be a day or two before it’s on us or it could be a matter of hours.”

First Mate Driara says, “Whatever you plan to do, please do not antagonize the crew. That storms looks like it’ll do enough antagonizing on its own.”

"That's the point, Ragnar. You shouldn't trust anyone. Least of all suspicious women in heavy robes who pay for treason and utter threats."

As the crew's attention turns to the storm, Kilarra gazes off into the distance. After the captain and First Mate speak, Kilarra turns back to Ragnar. "Good thing you didn't succeed, hey? We're going to need trust, teamwork and a sh**load of luck to get through that..."

She lets Vorya speak with Ragnar again, if he wants too. When the conversations over she eyes Ragnar.

"It's time to earn that protection, Ragnar. Instead of trying to drive us all apart, you need to bring us all together. You need to undo the damage you've done. Before it's too late, yeah?"

If Vorya doesn't assure Ragnar that we'll get him the protection he needs for his family, then Kilarra finishes with: "We'll get word to our contacts about your family. Now you get to work."

---

Once Ragnar's gone Kilarra looks at Vorya seriously. "What do you want to do about him?" she asks.

---

As the Captain and First Mate make remarks about the drills, Kilarra looks to Talivar.

"They're still happening?" she asks, clearly not excited at the prospect.

If Talivar says yes or otherwise indicates we are, which I assume he does, Kilarra sighs.

"Beats swabbing, I guess."

"Good luck, old man," she tells Vorya. "You're gonna need it!" she jokes.

Kilarra wanders off to hang out with her fellow swabbers until it's their turn for the drills.

Uruelleth's attention is instantly drawn to the distant storm. He scowls, not at all familiar with what one is supposed to do to weather a storm on the high seas. He's lived through many severe storms that blasted across the Hold and even survived two flash floods, but being on a ship in this vast ocean was ominous.

He watches the eyes of the captain and first mate for signs of how bad it would get. "Well. What do you need done? I do not think the ballista will be of use."

When it's Kilarra's turn for the drills, she looks up from her labours, stands and stretches. She jokes with her fellow team-mates until it's time to begin. During Talivar's speech she smirks at him, but otherwise makes no mocking comments, listening with the rest of the regular crew. Her fellow teammates look riveted, and inspired. She rolls her eyes, but manages to suppress the urge to scoff aloud.

Fire Drill: They safely make a lot of smoke with some smoldering rags in a metal brazier, placed in a random part of the ship. Those on fire suppression duty are timed as they race to put it out, with time penalties for pratfalls or dangerous mistakes as judged by Driara.

Perception to spot the smoke: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Acrobatics to race around the ship with buckets of water to put out the fire: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
Perception to notice any obstacles in the way: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19

Torn sail: The crew are timed as they replace a "damaged" top sail. Again they've got to do this as fast as possible without endangering themselves.

Climb to get up there quickly: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16
Acrobatics to perform her duties up there: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Disable Device to remove the 'damaged' sail: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Dexterity check to help replace the 'damaged' sail: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

Man overboard: A volunteer jumps overboard and the crew are times as they race to rescue them.

Are we still doing this, or refraining because of the storm? How are the waves? Do we have to stop sailing to do this?

If we are doing it, Kilarra volunteers to be the man overboard while the others save her. She strips off her armour, weapons and boots and drops her backpack on the deck. "Now, don't leave me hanging, guys," she jokes. Then she climbs the rail on the ship and dives into the ocean.

Acrobatics to not slip or fall off the rail: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Swim to dive: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Swim to stay afloat: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26

When she's eventually saved from the ocean Kilarra exclaims "My hero!" at her teammates and gives them high-fives. "Whooo! That was brisk!" She rubs her hands through her hair and shakes them about, drying off her messy hair a bit. She whips off her shirt (yes, she's wearing undergarments) and rings the ocean water out of it for a while. She doesn't seem embarrassed in the least. Eventually she gives her shirt a shake and puts the sopping wet shirt back on. Then she plops down on the deck and puts her boots back on. She tosses her armour into her backpack, straps her blades back onto her belt and tosses her backpack over her shoulder. She doesn't put her armour back on until after she's dried off.

Sea monster attack: Talivar summons the image of a Sea Monster (Sea turtle perhaps) and the crew practice using the ship's weapons.

As noted, this isn't being done with live ammunition. Are we just going through the motions, then?

Kilarra lets either Thrim or Ruel, whoever's showing them the ballista and such, show her where to go and how to use the thing. "Got it," she assures them.

Perception to figure the thing out by watching: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Wisdom to remember how to load and aim the thing: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Dexterity to manage the thing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Mock Attack Roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (1) + 9 = 10 not including any penalties for using a siege engine untrained, etc.

Kilarra messes up using the ballista completely. She lets out a laugh. "Wow, I'm horrible at this! Hang on, let me try again. This goes... here? And then like this? Right?"

Kilarra gets guidance from her teammates, or Ruel, and then tries a second time.

Wisdom to remember how to load and aim the thing: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Dexterity to manage the thing: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Mock Attack Roll: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (18) + 9 = 27 not including any penalties for using a siege engine untrained, etc.

"Ahah!" she exclaims happily, giving her teammates a high five. "I've got this now! Thanks!"

Repelling a boarding action: The crew need to learn where their battle stations are, and they're timed as they rush to arms and to their stations.

Kilarra pays attention to whoever tells her where to go and stand during combat. She rolls her shoulders, tilts her head this way and that, with a crack, crack! Then waits for the signal.

Acrobatics to get to her station: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Mock attack rolls at boarding ropes and imaginary pirates: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15

Did I miss anything for the drills? How did my team do?!

---

Kilarra looks around throughout the rest of the day, seeing if there's anything else she can help with, watching to see if Ragnar's holding up his end of their bargain, and watching to see if she can discover any other compromised crew members.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

Ragnar nods at Kilarra and leaves to help around the ship.

At Uruelleth’s question, the Captain says, “Make sure all the sails can be lowered quickly. The last thing we need is a torn sail from high winds. And the ballistae may not be much use in this situation, but you can also make sure they are securely attached to the ship. We had to repair a few before we left port.”

Perception and/or profession (sailor) check to see if the sails can be lowered quickly. Perception or knowledge (engineering) to check the ballistae. I know it’s tedious, but realistically it would be one check per set of sails for a total of 3 checks and one check per ballista for a total of 8 checks.

-----

When the time comes for the drills, the storm has already grown closer. The time between lightning strike and thunder clap has grown considerably shorter.

Still, Kilarra is able to motivate her team to participate in the drills.

During the fire drill, Kilarra’s team is able to quickly put out the fake fire.

For the torn sail drill, the operation goes smoothly till it comes time to replace the damaged sail. Kilarra has to let other crew members handle that part.

First Mate Driara shakes her head at Kilarra when the slayer asks about the man overboard drill.

“That storm is going to put enough lives at risk as it is. We’re not risking your life or anyone else’s, if we can help it. Besides, the storm’s speed is volatile. It could increase and be here before we could rescue you.”

For the sea monster drill, the crew go through the motions and simulate using the ballistae without actually using them. Since they aren’t actually using them, the drill is considerably less helpful than the other drills, but it at least provides the crew with where they need to stand in the event of an attack.

Since Kilarra doesn’t actually attack with the ballistae, she avoids complete embarrassment with her first try. It’s painfully obvious, however, that she has no idea what she’s doing.

Kilarra’s second mock attack goes much smoother and she manages to restore most of her reputation with the crew.

For the repelling a boarding action drill, Kilarra’s able to effectively lead her team. As with the sea monster attack drill, it’s not the most helpful since there’s not another ship to practice with, but it’s better than nothing.

At the end of the drills, Driara nods at Kilarra’s team and says to the slayer, “You’ve got leadership potential, I have to admit. I can see why the monarchs picked you. Even when you fail, you keep going.”

As Kilarra goes about the rest of her day, she sees Ragnar swabbing the deck. He isn’t the most enthusiastic crew member, but he seems to be trying to do his job. Everyone else seem to be doing their jobs, but also seem to be growing increasingly nervous at the approaching storm.

If there’s anything you all want to do, any other drills you all want the crew to do, or if you want to participate in any yourself, now is the time to do it. Storms like the approaching one are quite volatile, so it could strike at a moment’s notice.

Aghast Talivar stared at the storm and swore, "By the Dreamer that thing is coming our way! Should we turn NNE and ride out the headwinds?"

When Kilarra asks about the drills Talivar answers at once, "Unless the winds get dangerous yes, the crew needs something other than that to occupy their minds!"

The drills
When it comes to the drills, Talivar was pleasantly surprised that Kilarra tried her hardest. Not that he would mention it, she'd only smirk.

The Captain wrote:

Talivar agreed, "Aye we'd best save that one for a calm day. I mislike the look of this storm no telling what it will do, I only hope we can out run it!" Talivar's nightmare was getting shipwrecked somewhere on Mediogalti island. Most of it was supposed to be uninhabited jungle so even if they survived, completing their mission before they starved would be near impossible.

When Talivar asks about turning NNE to ride out the headwinds, Makori says, “I’ve been through one these before. We’re just as likely to get sucked into the Eye as be better off if we turn more northward. We may have to lower the sails, but we shouldn’t change our course.”

The Captain and First Mate nod in agreement with Makori. This is what the Quintumvirate are paying her for. If anyone should know what to do in this situation, it would be Makori.

Talivar’s pretty confident that the rigging for two of the ship’s sails will hold just fine. He’s not quite as confident about the third, but it looks fine as far as he can tell.

Uruelleth examines each of the ship’s sails and the ship’s ballistae. Unlike Talivar, Uruelleth is confident that all three of the ship’s sails are well-made and should hold up. That said, given the speed of a hurricane’s winds, quick hands may be needed to lower the sails lest they tear from the force.

He isn’t able to decipher the mechanisms of most of the ballistae, but there is at least one that he’s fairly certain is operational and tied down properly.

Going to hold off on pushing us forward till tomorrow to give everyone a chance to post.

It is when he notices Kilarra glances nervously that Vorya grows worried. If something was bothering that woman....

Through repeated uses of speak with dead spells, I was able to ascertain a general description of Lidellia’s killer. The assassin was an elf. One of our own. It wasn’t enough for the assassins to murder one of us. They had to corrupt one of our own as well. I’ve instructed my remaining advisors and guards to keep an eye out for any elf acting suspiciously. My worst fear is that one of those in my inner circle could be complicit with the Red Mantis. If so, I will personally see to it that they are executed for their treason.

From the journal of Queen Telandia Edasseril of Kyonin
Dated the 29th of Abadius, 4710 AR

-----

Don’t worry, Vorya, I have no plans to drown you. The storm, however, might have other plans. : )

The Captain raises an eyebrow at Talivar’s use of nautical terms. “Then I trust you will keep an eye on it during the storm. We don’t exactly have the means to replace it at the moment.”

Talivar is fairly confident he’ll be able to fix the sail in question should the need arise.

-----

The storm continues to approach. A few minutes pass and the gentle sea breeze turns into a brisk breeze. A few more minutes pass and rain begins to slowly fall. Five minutes later, rain is mercilessly pounding the ship and the wind begins to howl.

Lest you think you are in the worst of it, Makori walks over and shouts over the storm, “This isn’t even the storm, properly speaking. This is just the calm before the storm. It’s going to get much worse before it gets better.”

True to Makori’s words, the storm continues to worsen. Just as it seems it can’t possibly get worse, lightning begins to strike around the ship. The waves also grow large enough that they begin splashing water on deck. The vessel rocks back and forth as the winds continue to batter it.

Then the worst comes.

First Mate Driara runs on deck and shouts, “The ship’s taking on water below deck. I’m redirecting most of the crew to help plug the leak,” the elf pauses to look up at Jimell, “That means you too. We need you below.”

The unofficial second mate scurries down the mainmast. As he does a lightning bolt lightens the background. Jimell nearly slips from the sudden flash, but his years of military training keep him steady and he makes it the rest of the way down.

Driara glances over at you and says, “Someone has to stay above deck to monitor the storm and let us know if it gets worse. And to mind the rigging. We can’t all be below deck. I trust you, the Captain, and Makori can handle that.”

Without another word the First and Second Mates descend the stairs leading below deck.

For a moment, it appears your role in surviving the storm will be minimal. Then another lightning bolt flashes out of the sky and you are all momentarily blinded.

3d8 ⇒ (4, 8, 6) = 18

When your vision returns, you see Captain Fineas prone on the ship’s deck. The wind of the storm is just about to blow him overboard, but Makori grabs him firmly by the arms before he gets to the edge of the deck.

There are several holes in the Captain’s clothes where the lightning bolt burned through. He appears to be unconscious and badly injured.

Before any of you can respond, a loud sound is audible over the storm’s winds. It almost sounds like wind itself, but there is something too organized and too intelligent about it for it to merely be caused by a gust of wind.

DC 15 Linguistics:
Though you don’t know exactly what is being said, you can tell that the sound is actually several sounds which make up words in an unknown language. It seems to be a cry or command of some sort.

Makori looks over at you. Her normally expressionless face looks worried. “There are… voices… in the air. Something is coming. Multiple somethings, I fear. I’ll get the Captain indoors and see that he is tended to. It’ll be up to you to deal with whatever’s coming. Let’s see if your rulers chose well.”

The navigator begins dragging the Captain into his quarters. Though the sounds or voices on the wind appear close, they are not nearly close enough to discern their exact source or location. You have but a moment to prepare for whatever is to come.

Feel free to view both spoilers. You’ll definitely want to view the second one.

Talia, Talivar, and Uruelleth can act. Map is open for viewing.

Mechanics:
You may want to refresh your memory of the combat protocol by reviewing it from my opening discussion thread post.

For this particular encounter, there are other factors in play that you should keep in mind when considering your actions.

First of all (and I likely won’t say this in the future, so consider this fair warning), you don’t have to do what NPCs suggest. Hopefully you all know that, but I want to make sure that’s clear for this adventure.

Second, for this encounter, the winds, rain, and lightning are major issues. You can remain standing in the same square on your turn without any issues. If you want to move at normal speed, you’ll need to make a DC 12 Acrobatics check to avoid falling prone. You can move at half-speed by making a DC 5 Acrobatics check or else fall prone as well. You’ll want to make the check, if necessary, at the start of each of your in-combat posts.

Third, there will be significant penalties to perception checks and checks related to sight and sound for as long as the storm continues. I’ll add in the relevant penalties to your rolls as needed. If I include a spoilered skill check, you can assume I already included any applicable penalties.

Fourth, I’ll include Knowledge checks when they become relevant. Right now, the ‘somethings’ in question are too far away for you to even see.

Questions? Please feel free to ask them!

What about casting? It is a storm after all. Anything I should know about?

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

Good question. We'll say you require a DC 10 concentration check to cast a spell if you take another action on your turn. Alternately, you can forgo another action on your turn to just cast a spell in which case you can do so without a check. Knowledge rolls, etc. don't count as an action, nor do free actions or 5 ft steps. So essentially you can take a full round to cast a spell for free otherwise you'll need to make the DC 10 check. If the casting time is 1 round (or greater), you'll need to make the concentration check.

O.k and last question, but who is piloting the boat (sorry if I'm missing something obvious). Most of the crew are below deck, so are we captaining it? Do we need to make any checks regarding this?

Kilarra helps secure the stuff on and below deck while the storm begins to worsen. When just us, Makori and the Captain are left on deck Kilarra looks around.

"Well that's sh*t sailing! What the hell!"

As the lightning strikes the captain and Makori disappears belowdecks with him Kilarra scowls. "Really?! Yeah, I'll just sail a ship! Don't worry about it!" She growls. "Jacka**es!"

"Where do I need to be?" Kilarra yells at Talivar, knowing he's the only one who knows how to sail.

At the sound of the weird wind, and Talia's ominous pronouncement Kilarra shouts. "Never mind! I'll kill stuff!"

GM can you confirm which sail is the one Talivar thought was dubious? I used the word spinnaker which is usually at the front but that was just improvisation :)

Maps | Info | Loot | Talia's Journal

Talia: The ship doesn't have to be actively steered, but you can certainly try to, if you want to try to keep the ship on course. It would require a Profession (sailor) or Knowledge (geography) check.

Uruelleth: There will only be enough crew members around to man one ballistae due to most of them trying to help with the leak below.

Talivar: For the sake of continuity (and since I never specified before), we'll go ahead and say it is indeed the foremast that is questionable.

Buffeted about by the wind and the rain, Talivar wasn't keen to move from his current position, but it had to be done! The spinnaker could easily rip which would spell disaster.

Shouting to be heard over the wind, he cried, "Follow me if you can, we may need to loosen or even cut that jackstay!" This would hopefully cause the sail to collapse rather than tear. Getting it back up would be difficult, but dealing with a torn sail would be impossible.

Time will tell if moving is a good idea. I don't want him to have line of sight issues, but equally I suspect he may need to do something drastic to save that sail.

Uruelleth is able to concentrate well enough to enhance his defenses against whatever is to come.
Talivar deftly maneuvers over toward the foremast. Despite the buffeting rain and wind, he’s able to stay firmly on his feet.

The voices on the wind become more distinct and it is clear that they are drawing closer. It’s still nearly impossible to see anything through the storm.

DC 20 Perception:
You see three distinct shapes in the midst of the storm. They are cloud-like and have dark hollows reminiscent of eyes and a mouth. They appear to be about 20 ft. off the starboard side of the ship and in range of most conventional ranged weapons.

If you make the above check, you can also attempt the knowledge checks below. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait till after the creatures’ next turn, to attempt the checks below.

DC 10 Knowledge (planes):
These are air elementals. Two are medium air elementals and one is a large air elemental.

DC 15 Knowledge (planes):
Air elementals prefer to attack from the air and have perfect flying capabilities. They are also capable of moving long distances in a matter of seconds. A large air elemental has DR 5/-. Air elementals have the standard elemental traits.

DC 20 Knowledge (planes):
Airborne creatures take a -1 penalty to attack and damage rolls against an air elemental. Air elementals can transform themselves into whirlwinds. See the Whirlwind universal monster rule.

Everyone can act. Bottom of round 1 and top of round 2.
Talia, feel free to detail your round 1 actions in addition to your round 2 actions in your next post.

Apologies for not mentioning this before, but due to the storm, there’s also a -4 penalty to all ranged attacks. It’s only -2 if you’re within 10 ft. There’s no penalty for attacks within 5 ft. Vorya, that means your glaive will take a -2 penalty to attacks if you use it normally.

Talivar was about to climb the ladder to the forecastle when the call went out, Elementals! He froze and searched his view blurred by the howling winds and driving rain. Yes there, three sets of harsh eyes within insubstantial bodies off the starboard bow!

A wave of irritation swept Talivar, it seemed these elemental beings threatend them all. All he had to do was reach and that vast reservoir of utter cold was there! His fingers flashed to frost as before he had time to think this through a cataract of freezing water spurted out to strike at the largest one! Some of the icy spray splattered a smaller elemental too;

Kilarra draws her sawtooth sabre and maneuvers next to the the starboard side of the ship. She readies to study one of the air elementals as soon as she sees it.
Vorya moves next to Kilarra, his glaive at the ready.
Talia shares a wealth of information with the others about the air elementals. To be clear, it’s one large and two medium air elementals.
Uruelleth orders the ballista crew to fire a bolt should an air elemental come into view. It normally takes 2 full rounds to load a ballista, but since you had last round and a full team helping you, I’ll say it only takes 1 full round to load it. Thus, you had a bolt ready to fire in time.
Talivar drenches the largest elemental in ice. It lets out a dreadful howl as its airy body slows from the cold. Talivar’s spell continues on to one of the smaller air elementals and deals a decent blow to it. I believe you are technically supposed to roll for the damage on each subsequent target you hit. We’ll just use your first two die rolls this time around so 3+3+2. Also, I believe the entangling effect should occur after the spell’s initial effect is over, so I’m not penalizing their reflex saves. Their AC for the ballista hit is definitely being penalized, though.
Large Air Elemental Reflex Save: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (7) + 13 = 20 Saves, 8 damage.
Red Air Elemental Reflex Save: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22 Saves, 4 damage.

With Talivar’s entanglement, the ballista crew is able to find their mark and the large bolt collides with the biggest elemental.

The air elementals cry out as they approach the ship. While a couple appear to move slower than normal, they are still more fleet-footed than any of you.

The Large Air Elemental howls in Talivar’s direction and approaches the sorcerer. Even with its reduced speed, it’s able to overtake Talivar’s position. As it does, it begins spinning rapidly, despite the entanglement. The Elemental has taken the form Talia warned about: that of a whirlwind. Talivar, you’ll need to roll for 2 reflex saves.

Also, as per Whirlwind rules, the Air elemental is actually only on the ground in Talivar's square.

Vorya, you can take an attack of opportunity on the Red or Blue elemental, if you would like to. You don’t have combat reflexes, so only one or the other.

Red Air Elemental materializes from the storm and nears Vorya before attempting to pound the man into the ship’s deck. Red Air Elemental Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (15) + 9 = 24Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5

Blue Air Elemental appears from out of the storm and nears Kilarra before trying to pound the woman into the ship’s deck. Blue Air Elemental Attack: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (6) + 9 = 15

Before any of you have a chance to catch your breath, you all hear a horrendous sound that is somewhere between a cracking and a ripping. The ship’s foremast is being pounded by the storm’s winds and the sail appears to be in the earliest stages of tearing.

If you get to one of the four squares surrounding the foremast, you can attempt to avert catastrophe. Assuming Talivar can explain how the rigging works, you can attempt a DC 12 Strength check or DC 15 Acrobatics check to lower the foremast’s sail.

Kilarra lets out a grunt as the air elemental pounds into her, then spits a gob of blood on the ship's deck. She swings her blades at the elemental that struck her, slashing with one blade and then the other.

Attacking the blue elemental with her first attack. If it's still alive she aims the second attack at it as well, otherwise she attacks the red elemental with her second attack.

Attack 1: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 6 + 1 = 23 Includes studied target.
Damage 1: 1d8 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 3 + 1 = 12 Includes studied target.

Attack 2: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 1 = 24 Includes studied target.
Damage 2: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 + 1 = 6 Includes studied target.

After attacking Kilarra takes a five-foot step diagonally backwards, away from the blue elemental. Didn't roll for the DC 5 acrobatics check, cause she can't fail it.

While concerned about the state of the mast, Talia knows she is utterly unable to correctly fix the sail. Therefore she chants to herself, keeping her Evil Eye active, before casting Misfortune on the large ELemental.

Buffeted the storm Talivar barely manages to claw his way back down onto the main deck, slipping more than walking down the short ladder. Edging away from the larger elemental he fumbles for his belt pouch where he had many vials of urea. Upending the pungent contents into his palm. Aided by the sympathetic resonance of this potent liquid, he forced open a dimensional rent into the vast planar boreal sea, sending a powerful spray of super cold water right into it's center of mass! A fine misting of snow fell from the arc and was promptly swept away by the storm.

Move action: knight's move up to the corner of the middle deck.
Standard action: cast burning arc.

Acrobatics to move at half speed: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Concentration to cast a spell in a storm: 1d20 + 4 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 4 + 5 = 24
Cold burning arc to large elemental: 5d6 + 5 ⇒ (2, 4, 2, 2, 5) + 5 = 20 NB Urea adds 1 caster level which I forgot earlier. Save DC = Reflex DC 18. 2/4 level 2 spells cast. 1/40 urea doses used.

Kilarra:
I was just looking over some of your bonuses. I wasn’t able to see why your damage bonus was 3 for your primary attack. Also, with two-weapon fighting, it looks like your attack bonus should be +5 (+7 if attacking with just one weapon) before the studied target bonus. Did I miss a bonus?

GM Roll:

Kilarra lets out a grunt as the air elemental pounds into her, then spits a gob of blood on the ship's deck. She swings her blades at the elemental that struck her, slashing with one blade and then the other. Both of her blows strike the blue air elemental and it vanishes from the material plane.
Vorya ducks another blow from the elemental, happy to not get smacked this time. The older man takes another step around, still using Kilarra as a shield of sorts. Seeing that Kilarra has dispatched the blue air elemental, Vorya lashes out at the red air elemental instead and hits it.
Talia chants to herself, keeping her Evil Eye active, before casting Misfortune on the large elemental. Both of her hexes linger on the elemental. Large Elemental Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Uruelleth stands strong initially against the buffeting winds, but the gale force draws him up into the spinning vortex. He screams defiantly as he swings his falchion at the surrounding elemental. His blow strikes true, but the elemental continues to swirl.

GMZek:
Lets see... My bab is +4, my strength is 16 (14 base, +2 from my belt of giant strength), which makes a +7, plus it's masterwork, which makes +8 for normal attack or +6 for two weapon fighting, then the +1 from studied target. My current modifier is +7 two weapon fighting. I assume you missed that my strength is 16. My damage bonus is +3 main hand cause I have 16 strength.

Kilarra nimbly steps further towards the back of the boat, easily keeping her footing on the rocking deck with the intent of flanking with Vorya, as he requested. Suddenly her eyes widen, and she sees the massive tornado monster knocking Talivar around, and spinning Urrueleth like a children's top.

"Fu**!" she curses, words lost to the storm. "Behind you!" she yells at Vorya.

She stands her ground against the angry, little spinning wind monster, attacking it with both blades.

Kilarra:
Yep, definitely didn't add in the strength bonus from your belt. Thank you for updating that in your stats just now. The 14 before threw me off. Thanks again!

GM, I made my first save against the damage, so I should just be down 12 hp.

Helpless to resist being moved around by the whirlwind, Uruelleth could still swing his sword. He keeps attacking, putting everything behind his swings.
