Anapa and Narku suddenly move to intercept the gnoll's charge on Sarala, but neither of them are able to reach her on time. Regardless, she is left unharmed, and the gnolls find themselves suddenly faced by the party's warriors.

Round Two (Part 1)

With his judgment active, Thurrios charges toward Sarala's attacker, swinging his blade. Suddenly surrounded by its enemies, the gnoll is caught off-guard - Tempest cuts deeply into its arm.

As the gnoll recoils in pain, Anapa follows up Thurrios' attack with a swing of his nodachi.

Round Two (Part 2)

The gnoll facing Sarala never had a chance. With two deft swings of her blade, the monk leaves two massive gashes on the gnoll's body. With blood spewing from its wounds, it collapses to the ground.

Julius moves forward and hurls his javelin at the lone approaching gnoll. However, the spear zips right over the gnoll's head, sticking into the dirt behind it.

Before Marossa and Narku can act, a large creature suddenly bursts out of the ruined gatehouse, nearly barreling into the nearby gnoll. The gnoll manages to stumble out of the way just in time to avoid being run over.

With a huff the beast reorients itself, turning to face the ongoing melee. The creature appears to be a boar the size of a horse, standing seven feet tall at the shoulder. Above its large, tusked mouth is a single tiny red eye, crusted with filth. The other is evidently missing, a pink horizontal scar in its place. Dozens of flies swarm around the flank of the boar, and its graying fur appears to be covered with numerous tribal patterns, painted on in white.

The ferocious boar looks at your group and lets out a loud call, sending flecks of spittle and bloody meat out. It then starts to paw the ground, readying for a charge.

Marossa's eyes widen at the sight of the terrible beast, but she continues her performance in spite of it.

Thurrios, Anapa, Sarala, Julius, Old Bonegrinder, Marossa, >Narku, Gnolls

More to come; still have to add on Narku's action.

Round Two (Part 3)

With a bellow Narku charges the lone gnoll, falchion raised high. Using the momentum he drives his blade right through the gnoll's leather armor, cutting into its flesh and drawing a spurt of blood. When the half-orc pulls his blade back out his opponent limply drops to the ground.

Much like the victims of the last battle, the final gnoll looks on with terror as his comrades are slaughtered. Taking a step back, it turns to the massive boar, barking something at it frantically before turning tail and fleeing from the battle. Unless stopped, the gnoll is currently withdrawing from combat.

Gnoll:
"Kill them all! Grind their bones to their dust!"

It is unclear whether the beast even understood the gnoll's words. Regardless, its single red eye beholds you all with a hateful gaze.

I will switch my Judgement to give me +1 to AC.

Thurrios runs to I28, going down row I, hopefully the creature doesn't have 10' reach and I can avoid an AOO.

The way to I28 is obstructed by the wall of the gatehouse; I21 is as far as you could get.

Yeah, nothing at I22. Was there another way for me to pursue the retreating gnoll?

Hm. That's very odd. Can you see the different colored squares on your end?

As for chasing the gnoll, running down column J would be the fastest way (though that would provoke). Otherwise you'll just have to take move actions to go around the boar.

Then J it is, I'll take the AOO. I can see the off color squares.

Round Three (Part 1)

After switching to a defensive judgment, Thurrios breaks out into a full run, chasing after the escaping gnoll. He attempts to run past the large boar, but its eye follows the ifrit as he approaches. As he comes into range, the boar abruptly sweeps its large head to the side.

Attack of Opportunity: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (1, 3) + 9 = 13

Old Bonegrinder's left tusk catches Thurrios' flank, digging deep into his back as he runs. Despite the heavy wound the inquisitor is able to pull away, continuing his pursuit. Thurrios takes 13 points of damage.

Anapa chooses to chase after the gnoll as well, hustling to move around the boar's other side. Anapa technically can't "run" in game terms, since one has to do so in a straight line.

Seeing the hurt that Bonegrinder managed to put on Thurrios, Sarala rethinks standing next to that thing.

Sarala moves to J14

"Julius, this may be an appropriate target to make go to sleep," suggests Sarala, flinging a Shuriken at the scary thing.

Shuriken!: 1d20 + 5 - 10 ⇒ (20) + 5 - 10 = 15
Shuriken damage: 1d2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 1 = 7

Crit potential: 1d20 + 5 - 10 ⇒ (3) + 5 - 10 = -2
Crit damage: 1d2 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 1 = 6

Edit: miscalculated, ranged increments give -2 not -1 like I was wrongly thinking. Natural 20 should still do the trick though.

Round Three (Part 2)

"That would require getting close to it. And ah, having the right spell prepared," Julius replies, watching the threatening boar nervously. Eyeballing Julius' sheet, I'm not quite sure how he cast color spray on Felliped. Also, I hate borrowing character voices. :P

Sarala retrieves one of the many shuriken from her collection and flings it at the boar. The shot is a long one, but the spinning blade's trajectory stays true. It strikes Old Bonegrinder right between the eyes, digging into flesh and bone.

The arcanist follows suit, firing a magic missile from the tip of his wand. The bolt of force speeds through the air and hits the boar right on the snout. Old Bonegrinder rears back on its hind legs, letting out a bellow of pain, a cross between a pig's squeal and lion's roar.

Magic Missile: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

Unfortunately, the combined attacks only stoke the boar's indelible ire. Glowering hatefully at Sarala, the boar scrapes the ground with its hoof before abruptly launching itself into a full charge at the Vanaran. He lowers his head, readying his tusks for the terrifying attack.

Charge: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 + 2 = 16
Damage: 2d6 + 9 ⇒ (3, 2) + 9 = 14

That's a miss, but I'll leave it open here in case Narku wants to intercept before his turn; I'll update the map either way accordingly. Marossa will just continue her performance.

Round Three (Part 3)

Old Bonegrinder kicks up a large cloud of dust as he tramples the dirt on his way toward Sarala. Despite the boar's charge, the monk holds her ground until the very last moment. Just when it seems like the beast's tusks will gore her, she dodges out of the way. The boar swings its head up at empty air and stumbles.

Seeing a new target worthy of his attention, Narku issues his challenge. His words fall on deaf ears but he moves toward the beast regardless, swinging his blade at its flank. His falchion penetrates its thick hide, cutting into solid muscle. The wound is deep, but the boar merely roars out angrily.

The final gnoll is at first fearful when it notices that Thurrios is following it, but seeing that he is separated from the rest of his group, and grievously wounded by Old Bonegrinder at that, it skids to a halt. Seeing an opportunity to strike, it turns around and moves to meet the running Thurrios, thrusting its spear out at him.

Spear Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10

Despite the gnoll's cowardly tactic however, Thurrios' armor merely deflects the feeble attack, much to the creature's horror.

Of course. :/

The gnoll pulls away from the group, just barely ducking under Narku's swing. Thurrios' swing lands, but it is not until Anapa nearly bifurcates the coward that it hits the ground dead.

"Well, shoot. That didn't give me enough time to do a flying roundhouse kick on that gnoll's face," says Sarala, sheathing her blade and putting her hands on her hips.

She jabs at the boar with a toe to make sure it's properly dead.

Seeing that it probably really is dead, Sarala says, "I don't think we can transport this thing back to the caravan as much as I'm sure they'd like the pork. I'm stronger than I look, but this thing is gigantic!"

He wipes his qeapon clean as he speaks

"Just because i can, does not mean i enjoy it. A life, no matter how evil or vile, that i take is a life that could have changed"

He closes his eyes and offers up a prayer for the now departed soul

Julius chuckles and shakes his head.

"This obsession with butchering every animal we come across is most interesting. Here I thought a sense of purpose and reclamation is what drives our merry band to these heroic deeds. Yet it appears to be merely our stomachs which instead lead our actions."

"Well, I disagreed with slaughtering the goat 'cause the goat was going to be my buddy, but this guy already got killed," says Sarala to Julius on the subject of the boar. "It doesn't really matter to me anyway, 'cause I'm a vegetarian and all. Well, not religiously. Or well, yes, it's religious, but I can eat it in survival situations and stuff. But this doesn't really qualify. Still, the caravan people would probably appreciate a feast."
