Well we can always run it so that there's a 24 hour warning. You must post within a day, or someone will act for PC/ PC delays.
This requires some severity on the part of the GM to enforce. And can be waived if fore-warned.

Again, I think its because our miss rate was so high. Theoretically, if it weren't for the broken glass all over the kitchen and the Pugwampi's unluck ability I could easily kill 1 Pugwampi every round. Alik could kill one Gorrilla every round even easier than me, and the others would probably kill things too. Combat would probably be over in 3 rounds or less.
The reason this took longer is because its all circumstantial. I still say the next one will go quicker.
One thing that I think might help is if you post who is up next at the end of the round and/or having a combat summary. (it's stupid) but I find I get confused because I have to filter through the round end post to figure out whats going on a lot of the time. For example, I killed a pugwampi in this post and didn't realize it for days after it happened because my reading comprehension is terrible.

Those circumstances are certainly why the combat took 7 rounds. Some future encounters might take more, some might take less. My problem is that I feel we could have moved through those rounds more quickly than we did. Even if a combat only lasts 3 rounds like you said, it would take 9 days to get through it at the pace this one took.
As for the combat summary, I can do that. I admit that I do like making combat kind of narrative, though it seems to make some details easier to miss. I will also make it more clear who is next to act. I did not realize it was a problem, but thinking back, it has definitely been a cause for some confusion.

Awesome! I bet this will make a huge difference.

I will admit something that possibly contributed to any delay I caused in this. Since combat did seem to be going so slowly...I wasn't as diligent in checking for updates in this thread as I should have been. I wasn't really looking until I saw 4-5 'New' posts which would trigger a 'Hey, Alik might be up' type thought.
If everyone agrees to be more on top of posting, I will commit to this as well. I am sure this will make a huge difference in the time taken.

I agree with Doug a combat summary could help to clear up confusion, you can still do your narrative the same way just add a quick spoiler with a summary.
Also I noticed you've been bolding who has just acted in the initiative spoiler, it might help to bold who's up next instead. For whatever reason sometimes when I look at it my brain tells me I'm not bolded it's not my turn.

The combat summary is good and bolding whoever is next would help a great deal. I get confused easily so even when it was my turn I wasn't sure it was my turn because I had to remind myself that it was who just went that was bolded.
I try to check every post to few posts but that doesn't always happen but I do try.

How does this sound to you all for future encounters?
If a PC's action is needed to continue or finish the round, but the player has not posted within 24 hours, then that PC's actions may be arbitrated by the other players.
My hope is to be able to resolve each round within a period of two days. Of course, I would understand if any of you feel that this might be unfair.
Ruika Grumnash |
Yeah, that sounds very fair. And I'd be happy for Ruika to be arbitrated as such (especially since others might find more tactically sound decisions).
We are still going with the bolding system for next people who are up? And with their names in Bold, rather than those who've just gone?
Mahorfeus |
I will probably leave the bolding out entirely. Initiative will be posted at the beginning of each of my posts. Towards the end of each one, I will just specifically call on whoever is to act next. For example:
Alik, Corneilious, and Ruika are up.
I figure that will toss any confusion out the window.

I haven't found your maps confusing, the problem I have is that at my work there seems to be a totally random chance that I'll be able to see the map at all. So I sometimes have to go off an older map, or just not actually specify coordinates. Room labels will help though that way even if I can't get the map to work I can at least say what room I'm trying to get to.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for getting into the habit of neglecting this game. The part you're all in is almost purely exploratory, and I have not exactly helped progress any by being so slow to update. It makes me feel like I was pushing a double standard with the whole speeding up combat thing, which is not exactly fair. Especially since I have no excuses, with it being summer and all.
This campaign has honestly been a very gratifying learning experience for me, and I do hope to keep the ball rolling.
Mahorfeus |
Well, it pains me to say it, but I think you guys might have seen this coming - I'm going to have end the game here.
With my next semester of college coming up, I think the work it takes to GM would just be too much for me. Even during the summer, the time of the year when I have the most free time, I've managed to let the game slack as is. (In the middle of combat, no less!)
With that said, I'd like to thank everyone for participating.
Ruika Grumnash |
Sorry to hear you calling it, but I understand. GM is very time-consuming and college is of course more important.
I have thoroughly enjoyed playing Ruika, so much so I might use her for another game, your GM'ing was brilliant and you provided excellent maps.
Of course, this allows us to concentrate our efforts on other areas and have fun with other games. For we Mafiosa will have lots more fun games together.
And also I must thank everyone else for participating too, the mixture of characters was so much fun.
