Ok, cool. Sounds like we're all of pretty similar minds on this.
Cinnamon - want to cast Daze on the tengu, so he doesn't call out? That will give us a little more time to take him out, if it works.

Cinnamon Oskrev |

Yeah, that's literally my only ranged attack (gotta love first level), so I was definitely thinking about it.
DM Lucendar: If I Daze someone during the surprise round do they then lose their actions during the next round? Or does it waste the spell in a round where they couldn't act anyway?

Gyllan Dow |

@Eudo - yeah, I thought of that too - bombs good, noisy not so good, given our current situation. I'm sure you'll get to throw them soon enough.
@Cinnamon - I figured you were thinking about using Daze. It just seems like just the right tool for the job - if it works. Was about to write that I would think it would affect the tengu's action in the round after the surprise round, but Lucendar got there first.
So - Daze him, Eudo drinks his grow-juice, and Gyllan waits? Then next round we all move and attack him while he's dazed? And if he makes his Will save, we attack next round anyway?

Oh I forgot to mention a house-rule that I use in my Savage Tide PbP and has been working quite well. Since the party does not have a true cleric (oracle does not count), all healing outside of combat (when the fight is over), be it from potions, spells, class abilities, magic items, etc. is maximized (no rolling). In battle, all healing, as normal, is rolled for. That opens Jun's role to something more than just the healer. Also helps get rid of those 15 minute adventuring days from 3.5 when the party had to rest because they ran out of healing.

And while we're asking about the map - is there any significance to the white lines, like the one Gyllan is about to cross? I'm guessing they're some mapping artifact, but I'd hate to find out they're brightly-illuminated lines of ranger-slaying, and I failed to heed them.

I'm on an impromptu roadtrip. I may be able to check in the next few nights, or I may not be available again until Tuesday evening. Please run Cinnamon as appropriate.

Lucendar - what tool do you use for mapping? I'm thinking of pulling some old gaming friends into a PbP, and I haven't run one before. I think it will go more smoothly if I have maps, and yours seem simple and clear (well, except for the bed platforms).

Just wanted to let everyone know that this weekend I will be leaving to go here for work. I will be gone 2-3 weeks, and my internet connection will be very spotty indeed, and I’ll be on a very different time zone as well.
I will post when I’m able, but if I’m holding things up, feel free to bot me as needed.

Jun, I've been discussing die-roll changing abilities with another player in another of my PbPs and while great for RL games, they don't translate well into PbP. I think it slows down the game. Example: I roll a possible crit against a player, I confirm it, do damage and move on. Other players then go on their turn, reacting to my post. Then you go and say re-roll die as an immediate action and now I have to redo post and players who reacted to initial post have to redo actions and it gets messy. Other option would be to roll critical, stop, alert you and see if you want to use the ability, but that slows the posting to a standstill. Thus, I would appreciate if you selected another archetype, if possible, to avoid these types of abilities. I know I said it was okay at the beginning but seeing it play out, I just think it's just messy in PbP. I hope I haven't ruined the concept of your character and feel free to make any backward changes in the process. Thanks for understanding.

Jun Korter |

Its OK I understand. I was using it as a way to prevent damage and having to use healing all the time. The only way to streamline it over pbp is to have you just assume I'll use it the first time possible (like when Luc just got hit I would have) or with every crit, etc.
I don't have to get rid of the archetype, I just won't choose the revelation. I'll think about how to adjust what I can do.

Gyllan Dow |

That's too bad - I really liked the possibility of Jun's misfortune undoing whatever bad hand fate had dealt us. But I understand why it doesn't work as well mechanically.
Either way, let's go kill some tengu.

Have a good trip, Gyl!
Thanks! Didn't see this message until Tokyo, where I'm waiting for my next flight, after being up for over 20 hours now.

Cinn - just wanted to add another vote in favor of your bluffing approach with Bones, and general approach of RP-heavy play that involves a lot of bluffing. It makes it really fun and unpredictable, and the bluff mechanic doesn't get used to much effect most of the time, so this has been fun to see. I'm happy to play along, though Gyl is not nearly so good at it as Cinnamon.

Gyllan Dow |

Jun - did you ever pick a replacement feat for your Extra Revelation - Misfortune? I didn't see it on your sheet. You could pick Selective Channeling for that, as I'm sure you know. Or you could keep it but change the revelation to Life Link, which would be useful in situations like the one we're in now.
I understand your plan was to use Misfortune and avoid some of the healing need, and I get that it would be really cool to run the character that way. I wonder if there's a way to make it work. Maybe you could just set up how it runs a little differently? Like just have a rule when you'll use it? "Any attack that hits a party member will get Misfortune applied" or "Any attack that brings a party member to below half hp...or below 5 hp...or something"
Anyway - just ponderin'

Gang - I did a little updating to the treasure spreadsheet, and linked to it on my stats line above. Now I'm ready to enter the heaps of magic and gems that Viktor and Tessa were carrying.
I assumed everyone was okay with Gyllan keeping the MW greatsword, but we can discuss that if anyone objects.

Hello all - just wanted to let you know that I will be away Sunday through Wednesday, and in all likelihood without computer access the entire time. So I'll be jumping back in Thursday of next week - feel free to bot me as needed.
Hope we can get a few posts in before then!
