I will be running a Curse of the Crimson Throne PbP here on the Paizo boards. Here is the following criteria and pertinent information.

Sourcebooks

  • Rise of the Runelords AP, Curse of the Crimson Throne AP, both Player's Guides
  • The System Reference Document and Open Game Content from Unearthed Arcana, as presented on d20srd.org

Classes & Races
Any class or standard PC race from the source material above (this includes psionics). Non-standard races will need prior approval. The variant character classes, specialist wizard variants and class feature variants are available.

Non-standard Rules
The following optional rules from Unearthed Arcana will be used.

If crafting becomes part of the game, the Craft Points system will be used.

Characters
Reputation and Contacts will be a part of the game. Using Character Backgrounds is also encouraged.

  • Ability scores will be determined by rolling 4d6, rerolling ones, and drop the lowest die. Assign scores where you like.
  • Choose two traits.
  • Edit: Max starting gold, unless you opt to use Character Backgrounds, in which case it's half of maximum.

Mechanic Stuffs
Please use DM Tools or Invisible Castle for dice rolls. I will also allow rolls done in the chatroom.

Combat will be handled in the chatroom. Thanks for this recommend, Takasi!

Death, Dying and Nonlethal Damage

  • A character becomes unconscious when their nonlethal damage exceeds double their Constitution score and fails a Fortitude save equal to DC 10 + Con score. (Ex. A character with a Con of 8 is knocked out with 16 points of nonlethal damage.)
  • A character is dead when their negative hit points reach their negative Constitution score. (Ex. A character with a Con of 8 is dead at -8 hp. A character with a Con of 20 is dead at -20 hp.)

Party
Choose the character that you want to play - this is your character, not mine. I'll have plenty to run. As there is currently a lot of people who would like to play, the final group will consist of FOUR characters, with TWO alternates. Final group will be determined by a roll-off.

If you are interested, please post your interest here in this thread, along with a link to your character. I will accept entries until I receive my physical copy of the first part of Curse of the Crimson Throne, at which time I will roll for the final party.

So, I need at least six people willing to work with my campaign setup. The following people have expressed interest: NSpicer, Mothman, Kruelaid, ManPig, Alex Martin, Stunty_the_Dwarf, TerraNova, Quandary, Eric Zylstra, Oliver von Spreckelsen, Sean Minister of KtSP, and Tarren Dei.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add a couple of things! My bad!

I'll be an alternate, since I'm in James' Planescape shenanigans and am busy with school. Granted, lots of people have said they want to play already, so I am more than willing to be a spectator this time. :P

Consider this a reaffirmation of my interest. I'll whip up a 1st level PC of some sort or another in the next few days and post it.

Sign me up as an alternate too. I'd love to play but I'm pretty busy.

Liberty's Edge

Hi Lilith, I would certainly like to join the fun. What are your expectation regarding post frequency, is it a problem being 8 hours apart?

Yeah! I will be part of this game. Whether as a player, alternate, or lurker is yet to be determined. :)

EDIT: How soon do you want to see the character sheets? That is, before of after the final selection? I'm going to start work on my character ASAP hoping that he will land is someones game eventually. Unfortunately ASAP for me might mean a couple of weeks before it's completely ready.

The Exchange

I would like to play in your game, Lilith.

Edit: however I do not think me and the chatroom will get on. As a technophobe I shall leave this form of combat to others.

All the best

Cheers

I would like to play to but I have to much going on.

Good Luck with the game.

Liberty's Edge

Lilith, would love to be in a game run by your illustrious self ... but looking at my pbp schedule I'm already risking being over-booked as it is. I'll stand aside in favour of some of those with less fingers in less pies.

Good luck!

Post as much as you can without stepping on other people's toes.

The sooner the better, but that will have no bearing on the final roll-off.

woo-hoo! I'll get cracking and keep my fingers crossed.

Hello French Wolf. Please don't let the chatroom be a stumbling block. I logged into the chatroom for the first time (in any chatroom) this week. I found it to be very easy to use and very welcoming. It is easier to use than the message boards here at Paizo IMHO. I was a little intimidated at the thought of logging on there but I am glad I did.

My two cents.

Dark Archive

Hey, Lilith, put me down as among the interested. Paladin, ok with you?

Sovereign Court

I'm in... I'll work out a character tonight.
I'll take the arcanist.

Liberty's Edge

I'm in three....but it would've been cool, cept I couldn't read ROTRL so I wanna read Crimson Throne...;I wanna know when you do combat in the chatroom though, because I wanna watch and see how it works out.

Radavel wrote:

Paladin is fine. Don't forget about the paladin variants. :)

I'm interested. I have an Elvish Diviner that's been sitting on the shelf since 3.0 I'd love to stat up again. The first time I made the character I was aiming for Alienist, but she'll work just fine as a plain Diviner.

Lilith, if I make the cut, would you mind if I also ran a CotCT game on the side? I wouldn't want to know too much.

Since I started the original thread trying to find a GM for a game, I'm definitely putting together a character for your consideration.

Respectfully hopeful,

This looks like fun, Lilith.

But between my time zone and playing with my daughter, scheduling old me to get into the chatroom for combat, alas, will be a problem.

Guess I won't have to cut off my left nut after all.

Stunty, that's acceptable. :) (It was 4d6, reroll ones, and drop the lowest, right?)

I didn't include it in my intro above, but:

Please include a short paragraph with your character's story up to this point, and why they seek a life of adventure.

Ross, feel free to run any game you'd like on the side. I won't accuse you of cheating on me. :P

Sovereign Court

Actually, I missed the reroll 1s part, but I'm good with these. ;-)

Holy Cow! For once, Invisible Castle is nice to me. I'm sure the Harrow Deck will equalize this unexpected bout of good fortune...

In the meantime, here are the stats:
STR 16, DEX 11, CON 17, INT 16, WIS 14, CHA 12

...though I'll likely arrange them in a different order than they appear here, depending on which type of character I design. Since you're open to variant classes from Unearthed Arcana, I'm pondering a Fighter (Thug) variant...an enforcer who grew up on the mean streets of Korvosa...part-fighter and part-rogue, basically, without the need for multiclassing.

More later, once I've worked out skills, feats, and background for you...

--Neil

Couldn't save the rolls in invisible castle but I'm sure they are acceptable. Only did some work on the back story so far.

Are we using bonus feats from RotRL player's guide or background traits from CotCT player's guide? If so, she will take 'love lost' ... an homeless waif she had been trying to help was found dead in the streets of Korvosa. The broken chain of the holy symbol given to her by Abodah still clutched in her hand.

Have a great game guys! This looks well organized and likely to be a heck of a good game. (Naturally if Liz is running it)

Dark Archive

I used the format 4d6.takehighest(3).minroll(2) and got the following stats for Raphael, STR 14, DEX 10, CON 12, INT 10, WIS 14, CHA 17

This is me so far. Spells still need done, and I haven't done the math on my gear or encumbrance.

I'll start working on a character...anyone already considering a ranger variant or possibly sorceror?

A couple of questions for clarifications:

-The traits as part of characters - our choice or choosen at random?

-Same query for use of character backgrounds - pick a section then roll randomly or whatever we choose instead.

-Chatroom system is something entirely new to me as means of combat. I understand that you log-in, but how does it work - all of us combat in real-time?

Forgive my ignorance with obvious questions.

While waiting for the CotCT Player's Guide, and maybe the Guide to Korvosa, anyone have any suggestions on source materials for background? I have some ideas percoloating, but don't know if it will make sense within the storyline.

Thanks again for opportunity, Lilth.

Alex Martin wrote:

Your choice.

Alex Martin wrote:

Your choice or roll.

Real time combat, there's a dice roller in the chat room.

The Player's Guide is available for a free PDF download right now. Otherwise, the Rise of the Runelords Player's Guide and any of the supporting articles in Pathfinder.

I have a rough character idea in mind. Guardsman Gevtodt Bereskan, Korvosan Guard, South Shore Garrison would be a fighter with Harrowed and Big Game Hunter Feats and either the Widowed or Missing Son/Daughter Trait. His father is a renowned (and often quoted) captain of the Korvosan Guard.

Stats:
(4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=18,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=9,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=13,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=10,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=15,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=14)

WooHoo! I can’t remember the last time I had an ability score with an unmodified 18.

I like to have a well-balanced party. If I make the cut and we are strong on melee and weak on some other class I will reshape him and rework his background as needed. I still have lots of work to do but it’s a start.

Silver Crusade

I'm still interested; I'll think about character concepts over the weekend. Back to Valentining....

Sovereign Court RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32

I'm also still interested, but right now sitting in front of a desk, and not really supposed to even visit the paizo boards, but rather do what i am paid to do. I'll get back to you ASAP though.

The only problem I might have is doing combat realtime in the chatroom. My schedule is incredibly erratic (just ask my PbP players).

If it's a problem, I don't mind stepping aside.

Just in case:

4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=14,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=17,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=12,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=11,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=12,
4d6.takeHighest(3).minroll(2)=15

Liberty's Edge

Great, please put my name in the drawing bag with the others :-)
Keeping fingers crossed!!

Thanks for the responses. Didn't know that last part about the guide...but then it might have helped if I checked my downloads file.

I should have explained. I have a baby son and so my time is small but often. The chatroom requires a certain level of responsibility that I cannot promise.

Me being a technophobe is something I can work on, so I will be bobbing on the chatroom to check out this game as and when.

Thanks Manpig

I hereby confirm my willingness to participate. (but I will be able to have a look at it during the next week, after I finish up Jadras, my Gnome Artificer for Ithuriels Eberron PbP)

I'd love to give it a shot, though I admit to have never played a PbP before...

Sovereign Court Contributor

Lilz, Count me in. I'm working on my character as I have time.

You can choose from either source. If a connection to Lamm is not chosen, then one will be worked in to the story.

Liberty's Edge

I wish you the best of luck Liz with your Pbp. I would have loved to joined but I am neck deep in Pbp right now and throw in "life" and I don't have anymore time. I will stop by and see how it is going. HAVE FUN!!!

I think I'm finished. I changed a few things around, took a background, and did the math.
I should be good to go, if, of course, I make the cut.

I still need to work out equipment, and I'd like to tighten up my background a bit, but the meat of the character is here.

EDIT: Liz, if I make the cut, one thing I want my character to have is a bag of marbles. I want her to use it as a sap, and use the marbles as sling bullets, but I'd also like to me able to dump them underfoot against an opponent. How do you feel about this idea?

Works for me!

I think that's an awesome idea/character concept - could have an effect similar to a grease spell.

Alas, I would love to throw my hat in the (already crowded) ring for this Pbp, but I think upcoming time constraints at work might prevent me from doing so. I'd like to lurk on this Pbp though.

Mercitine Latarisprone's parents, Alcri and Jistune are moderately wealthy and decadent merchants in Midland. Mercitine has many legitimate siblings, but she grew a special connection to her bastard sister Claress. Both striking an uncanny resemblance to their recently departed grandmother, the two would play together during her father's visits with Claress's mother. As Mercitine grew older her father grew bored with Claress's mother, and the two saw each other rarely. One day Mercitine discovered a letter from Claress's mother; it claimed Claress had been kidnapped. Alcri refused to help his mistress and bastard daughter so Mercitine joined the Korvosan Guard and vowed to find her sister.

Seeing her skills in negotiation and knowing her parents notoriety, the Korvosan Guard assigned Mercitine the task of interviewing and hiring mercenaries for special tasks in defense of the city. Mercitine frequently volunteers to actively recruit adventurers in the seediest parts of town, and during these assignments she is always on the lookout for information that may lead her to her sister.

I'm also very interested in putting up my bid for the campaign.
I'll work out the full character sheet over the coming couple of days, but I have the basic concept ready.
Matteo "Matt" Pierce is a scoundrel, a ladies man, a rascal, a con man and a troublemaker extraordinaire... but he does it all with a smile and a wink. Despite his antics he still possesses a sense of honour and justice, never hurting innocents (although few of those exist in Korvosa) or the downtrodden (plenty of those, though).
A happy-go-lucky demeanor, a biting tongue and wit as sharp as his rapier are the true characteristics which define Matteo Pierce.

Human (Varisian) male rogueish character (might be either rogue or bard), might multiclass with levels in cleric (Cayden Cailean) - but I'll have to read up on Spell Points before deciding that.
For some comparisons, think a bit of Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), from the Shanghai Noon and Knights movies, a dash of Jack Sparrow's swagger, just a hint of 007's suave charm and a sprinkling of Malcolm Reynolds' (Firefly) underlying honour and brash attitude.
