Khalbar Bloodsong |

Khalbar looks to Kyra the Hammer for direction. "Goblins come in two forces. Stay here at cathedral or go meet them at bridge? You tell, Khalbar go kill goblins and leaders."
He sharpens his axe on his whetstone while he awaits instruction.

Kyra Arkona |

Earlier
While Kyra was fairly certain the Flibble could be relied on for warning the town, it wasn't a risk that she was willing to take. He'd spent so much time playing tricks, and it was hard to tell how much he could be trusted. She looks at the others following behind her, noticing that they weren't moving as quickly as she wanted them to. At least with Pick, it was understandable, and since she could tell he was really trying, she tried not to be annoyed. The truth, she knew, was that they were tired. So much of their energy had been completely wasted on this trip, and now... She swallows a lump in her throat. The only one who looks like he can keep up is Khalbar. Kyra slows, waiting for the others to catch up, before telling them the change of plans. "This isn't going to work. Look, get back as quickly as you can. Khablar, you're with me, we're going ahead."
Later
As their feet thud down the town's streets, Kyra takes a brief moment to be pleased. Seeing everyone running around getting prepared - it looks as though the gnome had come through after all. She and Khalbar slow as they approach the cathedral, and he moves off to talk to some of the men. Kyra glances up, seeing Flibble on his bird, perched up on the cathedral, overseeing the preparations. Their eyes lock for a moment, after which he smiles, seeming both proud and confident. All at once, fury overwhelms Kyra. Rage that she hadn't been there. Jealousy that his damned fool bird gave him such maneuverability. "What do you want, a raise? Get back to work!" she shouts up at him, seething. It looks like she's about to say more when Khalbar walks up, filling her in on the approaching armies.
Perception: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
When Khalbar asks her where they should be, she doesn't answer. The guards clamor around her, seeming more than a little overwhelmed. Flibble gives direction from on high. Khalbar waits. And Kyra quickly scans the east, searching for something, anything, but she can't be sure how large the army is, or when it may arrive. The only thing she can count on is that they'll have to work quickly. Turning back to Khalbar, she smiled tersely and set her jaw. "We're going to the front lines. And we may well die there."
Turning to the groups of men rushing around, Kyra tries multiple times to get their attention, before finally putting her fingers into her mouth and letting out a loud whistle.
Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (19) + 8 = 27
"We haven't much time, so I'll make this brief." Kyra begins. "There are two armies approaching, looking to burn down your home, to steal your supplies, to kill your families." As she speaks, her eyes quickly move between each soldier, pausing just long enough to make them feel noticed and acknowledged. "That's not going to happen. You've been training, and training well, all for this moment. Protect each other. Remember what you're fighting for."
Kyra turns to Khalbar, gives a slight nod, and begins walking, with the silent determination of someone who knows they're betting all or nothing on a game that's stacked entirely against them.

Khalbar Bloodsong |

Khalbar follows the monk with a light of grim determination in his eyes. "I already lost my family without a chance to fight for them. I am not going to lose this place too. It may not be my home, but it is worth fighting and dying for. The Shoanti will sing a song of our great victory or defeat this day, but it will be worthy of a song in any event."

![]() |

The goblins took longer to get to the city than he expected, but still Flibble felt quite exhausted after running around trying to organise everything. The arrival of Kyra and Khalbar heartened him, however despite his last minute misgivings about the disposition of forces. When he saw thw Goblin hordes approaching the North wall and tanner's bridge, He almost ordered the Southern reserve to support them; but he realised that not all the Goblins had been committed and until they were, he couldn't order them around.
Hearing Kyra barking at the soldiers in her familiar tone made him relax,
"Tha's the way, lass. Gie them a rollickin, an' they'll ferget their fear." He muttered to himself.
Finally, he deemed that the time had come for the opening salvo. The goblins in the Forest, they're the best target. he thought to himself. Calling forth the magic in his blood, he felt the very plants of the earth respond to trip and ensnare the advancing Goblins, making them easy targets for the guardsmen's arrows.
Flibble will cast entangle just North of the wall by the boneyard, centring on a point 40' North of the wall. I assume that it is within the 520' range from the cathedral, else he will fly out to a point that is. DC 16 save or be entangled for all within, or who enter that zone, for 3 minutes

Pick |

A'letta, Rhanloi, Pick
Pick is a very tired little 'dwarf' by the time they reach the city, sweating under his thick muffling cloaks and gasping for air. Only the fear of failure (and punishment) has kept his stubby legs moving after the others.
"Ghhnnnn," he gurgles when he finally runs into A'letta and Rhanloi, the other two having stopped when they reach the city.
He takes a moment to stand there panting, gloved hands on his knees, then stares at the sea of noisy goblins that face them. It is many goblins. Many, many, many. Pick wheezes.
Once he has some bit of his breath back, he tugs hesitantly on Spear-woman's sleeve.
"Pick... not fight... like this. Open ground. Many. Light. Bad. Pick fights... dark. Unseen. Pick can move, unseen. Or Pick get... big. But easy to see, then. Easy to... hit, too."
It's a lot of words for him, even broken up by panting gasps as he tries to get air back. He wishes they all knew silent-speech. It's much quicker with silent-speech. But Ran-loy would not yet know his meaning.
"We... pull goblins? Into trees? Fight narrow?"
(You're technically included in his discussion too, Rhanloi, but Pick considers Spear-woman much more important. She healed him, after all.)
If Pick's usual distinct method of communication is not clear, Pick is hoping to use the cover of the trees to hide in for their team, stay back and stick with ranged-- hoping to either pick off a few goblins in the heat of battle, or to draw them back into the woods. He's pretty aware that wading out to face the chief, the bugbear, and 52 goblins in open combat would be suicide for the three of them.

Rhanloi Ehlyss |

"I am not made for melee, either! I am all for choosing our targets and removing them securely! So we start at the back with the chief, and hopefully take him out before the bugbear and most of the others notice - then we can just keep taking out the last goblin..." Rhanloi says, trying to use some of the hand gestures Pick has taught him so far.
If A'letta agrees, Rhanloi will cast his magic missiles at the goblin king, while remaining hidden in the trees, causing 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5 points of damage!

The spear-woman nods, weaves protective magic over Pick and then lines up her offensive magicks with Rhanloi. Dread spirits are sent to haunt the goblin chief and hopefully with their leader shaking in his boots, the other goblins won't feel too enthusiastic about attacking.
Shield of Faith on Pick = 3 minutes +2 Deflection bonus to AC.
Doom on Warchief Ripnugget = DC16 Will save OR suffer -2 on attack, damage rolls, saves and checks for 3 minutes. Fear/mind-affecting. 130 feet range.

Pick |

Pick tenses at the defensive magic settling over him. He stares from behind the trees at the distant masses of enemies, and swallows.
Maybe they will all three die. Four counting the properly-quiet woman.
He could flee right now, he thinks. Go unseen. Take Spear-Woman's protection with him. It is how he survived the last overwhelming battle. Left the others of the People, and crawled away... a coward's action and a traitor's, but he had lived. In a sense, he has been running ever since: running from the People, from his own failure.
There is no outrunning death, though. If this is the place where he will pay for his weakness, he must accept that.
They have a... plan. Kind of. Stick to the trees, hide as best they can, draw a few foes at a time to them... hopefully. The drow-cousin lifts his hands to cast his first magic. Pick swallows.
"Pick not run," he says to Spear-Woman, drow-cousin, and quiet-woman. Maybe they won't get the full impact of what a big deal that is, but it's a promise he's making to himself, anyway.
With his weapon drawn, Pick licks his lips and waits.
Ran-loy's spell zigs a bolt of energy towards the leader, and Pick waits, crouched in the brush, still breathing hard and feeling his muscles weak and trembling.

Flibble takes off of the Cathedral atop his roc, beginning to fly about the town. Calling upon the magic in his blood, he floods the area beyond Sandpoint's northern walls with grasping, thorned and thick vines.
On the other side of the wall, hidden in the forest, A'letta and Rhanloi unleash their magical assault on the Warchief. A pair of magical missiles strike him in the back and then his mind is filled with visions of doom. Turning his gecko in both rage and fear, he sees his attackers protruding from the forest. He's already given the order to attack, so it's too late to turn his hordes against the party, but he still manages to garner a small group of goblins, his personal guard, and screams a charge against them. The Chief atop his gecko, his three guards, and two standard goblins are charging the outside group. They get within charging distance this round.
Following his orders, the goblin hordes charge the northern walls of Sandpoint. Bruthazmus stands back, draws his bow, and pulls back a powerful shot, smiling sadistically before he looses it. The arrow hits the guardsman in the chest, but fails to pierce his armor and clatters to the ground harmlessly. In front of him, many of the goblins are caught in the webbing of vines that Flibidnick has created, but many of them begin to climb the wall. Above, the guardsmen have crossbows at the ready and are taking shots at the goblins, striking the climbing goblins with large bolts. Three of the goblins fall, dead.
Shalelu draws back on her bow and takes three quick shots at the goblins, targeting the chieftain's guardsmen. "I'm leaving the chief all for you. Aren't you glad?" she says, but her illusion of mirth is gone now that she's entered combat with her favored enemy. Her first arrow strikes one of the goblins in the armor, but her second pierces it through the shoulder just above the heart, and her third strikes a second guardsman directly in the eye. The arrow protrudes from the back of the guard's head, and it continues running for several seconds before it realizes that it's dead and falls.

Nualia sounds the call for the charge, and her goblin allies, along with her demonic hounds, begin the charge on the town. The demon hounds lead the charge, moving significantly faster than her goblin horde, and will arrive several seconds before the goblins do, but the goblins move quickly and will arrive soon.
Behind the defenses, Ilsoari indicates Kyra and weaves a spell, forming translucent armor over her body. "Be protected, goblinslayer." he says. He casts mage armor on Kyra. +4 armor bonus for 4 hours.
At the same time, the elven cleric lays a hand on Khalbar's shoulder, murmuring, "Gozreh's grace and resilience upon you, sir." She casts aid on Khalbar. +1 to attack, saves vs. fear, and Temporary Hit points: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10.

Pick |

"Hsst. Pull back into trees. Make goblins come in trees to fight," Pick whispers, and urges the others back into the cover. Quiet-woman shoots well, though. He nods approvingly at her.
He also pushes his goggles up his forehead, now that he's in the shelter of the trees from the searing sunlight.
Pick is using this round to pull back further and hide-- hoping that the trees will break up the ability of the goblins and the lizard mount to easily charge them, while also granting them the cover he seeks. He hopes to be hidden, a little bit closer to the enemy than Rhanloi, Shalelu, and A'letta, so that as the enemy pursues them into the woods, he will burst out of hiding and strike at the first foe to pass him. It doesn't sound like that will happen on this turn, due to the distances involved.
Oh, and he's pushing up his goggles so he's not taking concealment penalties, as the trees hopefully drop the light from 'bright' to 'normal'.

Rhanloi will wait and target as many opponents as possible within the 15' cone area of effect. The king is a priority, but he would rather take out as many opponents as possible than any single one...

Kyra Arkona |

Jesus damn Khalbar. Well done.
AC is now 19 for the next 4 hours. Aces.
Kyra stands her ground as Khalbar charges in. Power radiates from him and his battlecry is enough to get her blood pumping, but she holds her ground. He passes more than a dozen goblins who are too wrapped up in their war-charge to notice him and cuts deeply into the Varisian knight. Khalbar's axe crushes the man's ribcage and slices into the organs that the bones used to protect, killing the man nearly instantly. A gurgle and a single spurt of blood escape from his mouth and he dies.
Grimacing in disgust at the display of gore and blood that Khalbar's just provided for her, the dark-skinned woman waves a hand, speaks an arcane gesture, and vanishes from sight.
Her eyes flash and her hair begins to billow with the wind as Nualia calls upon some profane power. She points at Khalbar's deadly weapon and mutters some magic phrase and a wave of rings travels through the air at his weapon, threatening to break it apart.

Savah's well-crafted armor and good reflexes protect her, but Ven Vinder's bulk and clumsiness do him no favors as the hound rips into his flesh.
The first yeth hound, the one that Kyra struck, attempts to strike back at her, and would have succeeded if not for Ilsoari's spell. The hound's teeth rebound on a translucent wall of force just before touching her skin.

A'letta and Rhanloi dig in, A'letta with her spear and Rhanloi with his spell. They prepare for the goblins' charge.
Above, in the city, Flibble coats himself in armor made of force, readying for an attack.
Seeing their opponents are ready for them, the goblins charge, screaming a battle-cry (that's basically jibberish). The king's two remaining guards ready their horsechoppers as they run and the goblins smile sadistically while waving about dogslicers. Clucking in victory, Pick emerges from hiding and strikes down one of the charging goblins. One of the king's commandoes notices and breaks off to attack Pick.

The other commando, the remaining goblin, and the king attack A'letta. The king is first and rides past the oracle, swinging at her with his sword. She reacts first, though, and cripples his gecko mount with a well-aimed spear blow.

King vs. A'letta, charge (AC 22): 1d20 + 10 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 2 = 17
The king rides right past her, swinging, but his shortsword blow is deflected by her defensive stance. The other two goblins have no better luck, and their swings are just as ineffective.
The goblins surge against the wall again, a few of them managing to get rather high in their climbing efforts. The vines continue to entangle many of them, though.
Bruthazmus raises his bow once again, nocks another huge arrow, and lets fly at one of the guards.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14

Pick |

(For the record, Pick loses a point of damage per attack due to fatigue, as well as a point to attack, although I think you got the attack penalty factored in.)
Pick bares his teeth at the goblin in front of him in a soft hiss, and swings his pick again to try and bring the commando down to join the common goblin on the floor.
Pick attack vs the commando that just charged him: 1d20 + 5 - 1 ⇒ (8) + 5 - 1 = 12
Damage: 1d6 + 3 - 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 - 1 = 8
Sneak Damage if ever applicable: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 6) = 12
I'm operating under the idea that Pick will try and get flank when he can do so without provoking an attack of opportunity. I will roll Pick's attacks as if I do not have flanking (so no +2 bonus), so i leave it in your hands to decide if Pick's attacks get the +2. I will roll my normal damage and my sneak attack damage separately, and you can apply the sneak attack damage if the situation qualified.
At the next level, the situations where Pick can get sneak attack open up substantially, but this should work for now. Does that work for you, or would you prefer something else?

Khalbar Bloodsong |

Is it possible for Khalbar to engage Nualia at this point or is she surrounded by others? Make this attack on her if possible, on the caster if she appears second, and on a yeth hound third, depending on how the battlefield is set up in your mind.
Khalbar growls in triumph after killing the armored knight in one fell blow, seething with anger he targets the leader of the warparty, the evil aasimar. Leaping to engage her, he swings his bloody axe in a large arc bringing it down with all his might on her disfigured frame.

Pick continues his mortal combat with the goblins, but fails to persuade the second goblin to join his compatriot in death. I guess that's what you get when you have 8 Charisma.
Shalelu, on the other hand, proves quite adept at convincing people to die. She runs to a point away from the goblins and lets out a single shot at the standard goblin engaged with A'letta. The arrow goes right through the goblin at the neck and out the other side, sending the creature's eyes rolling back into its head and its body to the ground.
Sandpoint's walltop defenders push their crossbows out over the wall, firing down into the crowd of entangled and climbing goblins. The goblins aren't exactly as adept at dodging heavy bolts whilst wrapped in shrubbery and whilst climbing, and so five of them fall.
Without the City of Sandpoint, East
Heroes: Khalbar (53/43)
Enemies: Orik (DEAD), Nualia (37/59)
Khalbar roars and runs to engage Nualia, one of the last opponents outside of Sandpoint (now that the majority of the goblins have charged across the bridge to the other side). Raising his axe, he brings it down on her shoulder in a display of gore and blood. The aasimar woman grins at him through the pain. "You really have no idea of the wrath that Mother is going to call on you." she says, before she raises her falchion in response and slashes through his torso.
Khalbar takes 13 damage.

Enemies: Yeth Hound 1 (7/30), Yeth Hound 2 (25/30), Yeth Hound 3 (30/30), Lyrie (24/24)
Kyra unleashes a world of pain on the hound in front of her, striking it in the neck with one precise blow. It coughs as Kyra feels blood vessels rupturing underneath her fists, and her second swing hits only empty air as the creature's head ducks.
The guardsmen, still without of melee combat, raise their crossbows and fire once more at the goblins. Their accuracy is not so good, as they're thrown off and unnerved by the presence of the goblins so close, and two goblins fall to the heavy bolts. As one, the men drop their crossbows and draw swords.
Ameiko circles around the hound in combat with Savah, drawing her fine mithril rapier as she goes. While moving, she opens her mouth and begins to sing a hauntingly beautiful song in a foreign language. Ameiko activates inspire courage. All within the Central Quarter gain the +1 benefits.
As Ameiko circles, Savah draws a shortsword and hacks at the hound before her, but when while flanking and inspired, she fails to strike the agile and demonic creature.
Ven has better luck, drawing a club, he manages to give the creature in front of him an impressively solid whack.
Hannah, engaged by several goblins, skewers one with a fine rapier in an impressive display of elegance.
Ilsoari backs away from the goblins, cautiously, but only a few feet. Then he raises his hands and lets a wave of flame wash over a half-dozen of the things.
There is a soft pitter-patter on the bridge, and then some disturbing of the dirt around the battlefield, but nothing is seen as Lyrie runs through the battle.
The yeth hounds rip mercilessly into their opponents..or at least, they try. Savah is too well-protected for her opponent to really do anything effective to her, and Kyra is still protected by the conjurative that Ilsoari placed on her. Ven, however, is still quite unlucky as his hound-opponent rips into his leg and pulls him to the ground. The shopkeeper yells in pain.

Flibble flies overhead, swooping low over Bruthazmus to deliver a paralyzing douse of goop from a tanglefoot bag. Fortunately for Bruthazmus, he finds himself able to dance around enough to keep his feet glued to the ground.
A'letta presses her assault on the goblin warriors, stabbing one deeply with her spear. The goblin staggers back but keeps its resolve nontheless.
Rhanloi backs up and away from the battle, coating himself in the translucent protection of mage armor.
Infuriated at his entangled position, Bruthazmus draws back on his bow, swiveling, and fires a heavy shot at Flibble, who is quickly trying to fly away. However, the shot rebounds off of an invisible wall of force around Flibble.
Meanwhile, the the goblins finally swarm up and over the wall, gaining a few dozen footholds on the wall. Their dogslicers are drawn quickly, and a pair of guards, haplessly not wielding proper melee weapons, are slashed up mercilessly and thrown down the wall.
The goblin king is too stunned to fight, but his remaining guards engage Pick and A'letta in combat. A'letta is too well-defended, and with a preternatural sense of what the guard will do, to be struck. Pick, however, isn't so lucky as the commando's halberd tears into his flesh.

Shalelu murmurs, "Okay, no more Ms. Nice Elf." when she sees the goblins engage in melee combat with her allies. Swiftly nocking three arrows and letting them fly at Ripnugget, only the first succeeds at penetrating the goblin's surprisingly nice armor, although it's a heartbreakingly accurate shot, hitting the goblin chieftain in the chest and causing the mounted fighter to drop from his saddle and onto the ground, still stunned.
Meanwhile, Pick growls at his opponent before twisting out of the commando's grasp and maneuvering to the prone and injured chieftain. He brings his pick down on the helpless opponent and hits the stunned chieftain in a vulnerable spot while he still can.

Soft footsteps and a barely-unseen force are all that can be detected in this area...
Except for the raging battle at the gate and northern wall, that is! The guards atop the wall and the guards atop the Cathedral team up and take down the goblins with hardly a trace of cowardice. Twelve goblins fall from atop the wall, surely to be soon replaced by more from below.

Kyra continues her mortal combat against the first yeth hound in front of her, but is somewhat clumsy with her initial efforts. Her first blow, an attempted low kick, ends up looking like a tantrum-fueled stomp on the ground, while the second ends up being a fairly powerful punch to the hound in the face. The hound wavers shakily, but stays standing.
The forces of Sandpoint, the eight remaining guards, draw swords and engage in melee combat with the goblin horde. Emboldened by Ameiko's song and given courage by the desperation of their situation, they manage to slay eight goblins.
Prone on the ground, Ven angrily swings for the hound in front of him, but his awkward position awards him nothing as he fails to injure the beast.
Savah and Ameiko, both flanking a third hound, each manage to strike at and injure the strange creature. For some reason, Ameiko's mithril rapier manages to harm the creature more than any other weapon has been seen to, but the creature remains quite healthy.
Hannah Velerin, reduced to melee combat with several goblins, attempts to skewer one and fails quite miserably at it.
Ilsoari calls on further fire magics while backing up a few more feet, and throws a searing ray of fire at the yeth hound that menaces Ven. However, the chaos of the battle and his shaky old limbs throw his aim off and the ray merely singes a nearby building.
The yeth hounds are merciless in their power. The one in front of Ven reaches down with powerful jaws and rips at his flesh, sending the shopkeeper into unconsciousness.
The one flanked by Ameiko and Savah snarls and delivers a shockingly powerful bite on Savah's torso, its teeth finally ripping through her fine armor. The creature rips and tears, and the weaponsmith falls into unconsciousness.
The third yeth hound, in combat with Kyra, finally gets a bite in through the protective magics that Ilsoari weaved over her, and rips greedily into her meat. She manages to keep her feet below herself, but takes 12 damage.
