Okay, First and most obvious question. What world are we living in, and where in the world are we living?
Onto less obvious questions.
Is slavery legal wherever we are? Are we slaves?
Are we all human because that is all there is around here, or is it because this militia/organization is just racist?
Are there other humanoids (monstrous or otherwise) commonly known to be native to the region?
In there any information about this militia/organization commonly available, or had none of us ever heard of this group before they came to buy us from out parents?

LegitGM |

Thanks for the questions.
We are living in a homebrew world, but for sake of simplicity, I like to say they are just... oversees from Golarion (so we can use Golarian Gods)
Slavery is legal, however, the King sees his actions justified because he payed several thousand gold pieces per head. He also sees you as more... servants... than slaves.
You are all human because the King hired humans, and yes, the ARA is pretty racist.
There is a substantial half-elf, half-orc, elf, halfling, and dwarf population in the region, however, the King likes to have his own kind do his work and the other kinds do their work.
Relatively little is known about the ARA because the King likes to keep it secret. It's up to all of you to figure out what needs to be... figured out.

My character has dwarfism. It would be nice if there was some mechanical effect such as size or something. Whether it ends up as an advantage or disadvantage I don't really care. I'd just love to see the flavor reflected in the mechanics as well as the role-play. I went looking through drawbacks but did not spot anything :(
Like Shirota I'm very curious about the world. I picked Lamashtu as her deity but for all I know there is no such deity in this world. If that ends up being the case I will be scrambling to rewrite some of the characters background.

Zathan Jax |

Yeah go Small.
Lamashtu is fine.
Here is the bonuses as opposed to Medium:
+1 size bonus to AC
a +1 size bonus on attack rolls
a –1 penalty to their CMB and CMD
and a +4 size bonus on Stealth checks.
Don't forget base speed 20ft.

Zathan Jax |

Oh, and if there's something specific you want us to do with our stats in out tag lines, let us know.

Base Speed 20ft. isn't part of the Small size template. Gnomes and Halflings and such actually get a -1 RP adjustment for being Slow. Meanwhile Goblins have a 30 ft. Base Speed and paid no extra RP for it.

Shirota Ikari |

Forgive me for being "that guy" LegitGM, but I am very curious how you plan to adjudicate the fact that Shogunto and I are both basically Summoners, but he has access to a significantly better spell-list than I do as a result of being an Original Summoner (so much so that PFS banned the Original Summoner after the Unchained Summoner came out).
In my home games I usually ban the Original Summoner and Original Rogue in favor of their Unchained Versions. With the exception that I allow players to use the Original Summoner's Eidolon rules if they are taking an Archetype or using an unusual Base Form (like Avian) which is incompatible with the Unchained Summoner's Eidolon rules (such as the Wild Caller from Heroes of the Wild).

Thank you very much for accommodating my request. It really adds to the flavor.
Note: I actually wouldn't mind the speed reduction, even though it would reduce the value of my character since I expect a human with dwarfism would be slower. You could always make it up with a trait or something if the balance is important. But, make no mistake, I'm thrilled with the small template and you don't have to do anything else to make me happy. I got my mechanical effect :)

I'm currently inventing my guy's weird family religion.
An empiricist with his own wacky religion? I think you win the award for most ironic character in the game.

What the heck is a tagline?
@Shirota that is a very hard question. I have looked at the opinions of people more experienced in this field than I, and they seem to all agree that the APG Summoner has some pretty op spells and the Unchained Summoner needs more evolution points.
There are several ways I can see around this, so I will allow you to either:
gain a bonus trait
OR
calculate bonus spells as if your charisma was one tier higher (so instead of a bonus to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, it would become a bonus to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th)
OR
gain 2 additional evolution points at first level.
I retain the right to call that deal off, should it break the game.

@Remish
The people know the ARA exists, although they don't know much of what happens at it.
The kingdom is the Iron Lands, not currently at war (yet). There is a sizeable drow land north of the Iron Lands, and duergar are rumored to be living to the east. And of course, Orcs inhabit the mountains far south (past the equator, which the Iron Lands covers. The Capitol, which you are near right now, is just north of the equator.)
The climate is warm and temperate. The land is known for its rolling hills and dense forests (one of which happens to be just to your back...)
@Runt I think I will say no to the speed reduction, but feel free to take the Small modifiers.
@Sarah
the King prohibits all religions that do not threaten to dethrone him. Great old what (religions, people, heroes?)
@Silas go wild.

Runt PbP |

A tagline is what appears under your name on a thread. for example my extremely wordy tagline says
Female C/N Human Inquisitor(Monster Tactician)/1 | HP: 10/10 | AC Norm/Tch/FF 12/12/10 | CMB/CMD: +1/12 | F/R/W: +3/+1/+5 | Init: +1 | Speed 30 ft | Diplomacy +4, Intimidate +5, Knowledge Religion +5, Perception +7, Sense Motive +8, Stealth +9, Survival +7 | Active Conditions: None
It gives, at a glance, the most important information about the charactrer.
To make a tagline fill in the Race, Classes/Levels, and Gender in your profile. They all run together and produce a single line (tagline) so there is no real reason to put race in Race, or Gender in Gender, etc.
My template is
RACE: | skill1 +XYZ, skill2 +XYZ
CLASS/LEVELS: | Active Conditions: None
GENDER: gender alignment race (racesubtype) class (Archetype)/level | HP:XYZ/XYZ | AC Norm/Tch/FF: XYZ/XYZ/XYZ | CMB/CMD: +XYZ/XYZ | F/R/W: +xx/+xx/+xx | Init: +XYZ | Speed 30 ft
Its a REAL bear to keep up to date in combat or when you are higher level and have buffs going all the time, but its very helpful to the GM to be able to see the character's AC and other major stats at a glance.

Note: There is some limitations to length. Not everything will fit.

Shirota Ikari |

That sounds like a reasonable offer to balance us. The extra Evolution Points are far and away the best option for Shirota. Maybe even a little too much so, since that would give my Eidolon the same number of Evolution Points at 1st level as Shogunto's Eidolon (which didn't gain any of the benefits of having a subtype that mine did). However to be fair my Eidolon didn't start with any free Natural Attacks or of Weapon Proficiencies, and cannot take most of the Natural Attack Evolutions (she's limited Slam, Wing Buffet, and Hooves).
So as to avoid the potential for breaking the game, I plan to take the Evolution Points, but I will invest them flavorfully instead of efficiently. I really wanted Hiriko (my Eidolon) to have Proficiency with Simple Weapons, but would not have been able to afford to until at least 3rd level. Now I can give that Evolution to her now, and invest other abilities as we gain experience.
I will update my sheet accordingly in the morning, once you've had a chance to reply/comment.

I have one more question of relevance for Summoners (although it is far more relevant to me than Shogunto) which I would like your adjudication on LegitGM.
Normally summoned creatures appear with whatever equipment they possess in their bestiary entry. For example, my Summoned Vegepygmies have longspears. Similarly that equipment disappears with them when they are defeated. Most importantly, even if my Vegepygmy's longspear is sundered, it reappears with a new one next time. This is because a Summoned Creature is a echo, or copy of the original (I'll get more into that below)
However Eidolons are in an awkward position. They are technically summoned beings, but the rules as written are silent as to whether you can give equipment to an Eidolon while it is summoned, and have that equipment appear and disappear with them (I.E. give them true ownership of said items). Having to reequip my Eidolon each time I summon it is a minor inconvenience (unless I'm summoning it during combat with Summon Eidolon). However having her equipment just drop to the floor (and potentially be stolen) would be a major inconvenience.
High-Level Summoners have some exploitive shenanigans they can use to circumvent this problem. Such as Calling the eidolon instead of Summoning them, and giving them the equipment before sending them back; or visiting them via Plane Shift and giving them the equipment... Most of those shenanigans center around exploitive "wish-factory" tactics. Such as giving your eidolon a stack of consumables. Then every time you summon them, they have a fresh stack of ephemeral consumables copied off the originals which you can consume without having to replace. Personally, I'm not interested in the "wish-factory" tactics at the moment, I'm just explaining the principle.
I just want to be able to mark certain items as belonging to my eidolon (via Arcane Mark for example), and have them appear and disappear when she does. So as to not be exploitive, said marked items should reappear in the same condition they disappeared. Such that if my Eidolon's sword is sundered before she disappears, when she reappears her sword is still broken (likewise consumables are still consumed, arrows still lost/broken, etc.).

I think the "eidolons are summoned as they were when they were last dismissed" approach works best, both for playability and for preventing game-breaking cheese like what you mentioned. The fact that they retain HP/damage from dismissal to re-summoning supports it.
An alternate approach would be to say that any gear reverts to the summoner (which works because the summoner and eidolon share slots). You then have to decide whether those items return to the eidolon magically upon re-summoning or must the transferred manually.

Shirota Ikari |

Thanks, I think those are all the class-related questions I have. I'll update Hiriko's evolutions momentarily (and note they are the result of a house rule).

Shirota Ikari |

...and I thought of one more. This one is relevant to almost every spellcaster.
How do you feel about the Spell Research rules from the Downtime section of Ultimate Campaign, and more specifically their ability to allow spontaneous spellcaster's to exceed their usual number of spells known?

Karthal Thirntar |

I don't plan on it in the near future, but what would you rule about multiclassing for 1-2 levels into Master of many styles monk since I'm an unchained monk?

Shirota Ikari |

I have one more question for you about my Summoner that just came up in another thread (See Here)
I wasn't very familiar with Summoner's until I made this character, so I was unaware of the fact that we normally select four additional Class Skills for our Eidolons, and didn't do so for my own. Given the information contained in the linked Post, should my Fey Caller select 4 additional Class Skills for his Eidolon? I won't be changing the skills she invested in this level either way, but it would option up certain options for her in the future that I had not considered.

LegitGM |

I have added the draft of the battle map onto my tagline (it happens to appear first).
I would like everyone to add themselves to the map, using a letter taken from their name. Then add yourself in the Pawn Key. If no letters applicable to you are available, PM me.
People that are here to watch should be on the bleachers, while the Unit Leader Wannabes should be gathered in the sandpit.
Also, be sure to check the gameplay thread for a coming gameplay post.

Runt PbP |

Add Runt (Using U).
May I make a suggestion? Typically in the PbP forums we use our character icons to represent our characters. I put Runt's icon on the map in the lower right corner as an example. Would that be preferable?

Cantriped |

Here is a quick example I pumped out using Dungeon Painter and set up as a Google Doc Presentation. Let me know if it is working.
{Quick Battlemap}
EDIT: I've populated it with everybody I could easily download an icon for, I didn't have icons for your NPCs Legit, so I used yours. you can pretty easily download icons from Paizo, import them into the doc, and resize them though.

Also, why does Zathan have an animal companion?
Although with a -1 in Handle Animal he's going to have a tough time getting it to do anything. Animal Companions still have to be handled like any other Animal, although many GM's either forget about that, or choose to waive this restriction.

This is my first time playing a character with an animal companion, but my understanding is that when an animal companion has been taught a trick, it doesn't require a handle animal check to make it perform that trick. Handle animal checks can be used to teach the animal companion tricks, but there are also tricks that are provided through class features and level progression that don't require checks to learn.

All tricks require handle animal.
Dc 10 if known
Dc 25 if not
Even droids need to make handle animal checks to train a new trick. Don't know of any ability that gets around that.
Remember that you get +4 On your check for your animal companion.
Since skills do not fail on mat 1 once you have +9 or more you do not need to roll for trained tricks

Zathan Jax |

Huh. So I really should have put a skill point into that. Would the GM mind if I reallocate one now?

I have company arriving late this evening that will demand much of my attention for the next several days. So most likely I will be limited to no more than one post a day over the weekend, instead of the four or five I can normally manage.

when do we plan on starting combat? I have a irl 5e session that i will be at most of the day, and then a party the next day, so i wont be able to post much then.
