Zeroks quickly draws his bow and fires an arrow on the thing attacking Kag.
They probably get partial cover.

Because of the darkness, Voleryn's spell does not hit either of the creatures, instead burying itself in one of the pods they exited. Zeroks, however, proves himself a capable archer, his arrow finding a new home between the creature's milky-white eyes. And it falls hard, clearly lifeless.

Reishi's face reddens seeing Kag take a hit to the ribs. Emitting a low growl he slashes at the creature in front of him.

"Coulda played it easy, but no. Fine. You wanna play it hard, we'll play it hard." mutters Kag to himself. Turning to the one attacking Reishi, Kag swings his hammer in an overhead strike, attempting to brain it.

The second creature takes Reishi's rapier thrust in the gut. As it keels over, grabbing at its stomach, Kag's overhand swing crushes its exposed skull. Both creatures die, never having made a sound in this dark room.

Reishi quietly utters a prayer for the foul creatures, "May your souls be guided to a realm of peace.", then nods to Kag and adds, "Nice swing! Let me see that scratch yah got. Bet I can take the edge off it." Reishi touches Kag's shoulder and ethereal green vines spread across Kag's side along with a sensation of the immense healing power of nature. The wound glows for a second and then closes up partially. Kag receives 5 hit points back.

"Good question Vol. Wish we knew more. Hopefully we find clear answers are in the next room we search. I'm curious to know more about the Ultari. Whatever those creatures are, eyes without pupils are freaky. And Zerok's, nice shot with the bow!"

Zeroks |

Zeroks does a cocky bow to Voleryn and then Reishi.
"Why, thank you. I'll get to work on the next door."
Zeroks checks for traps, and then opens the next door.

Round: 2
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Before you arrive at the last door, Andretta gives out a small scream as two more of the creatures emerge from that room. Something about this pair seems more battle-hardened and they seem to be expecting you and are just as creepily silent. A light overhead flickers very quickly for a couple of moments before staying on steadily for now. A third creature says from the doorway, in the common tongue, and a raspy, dispassionate voice, “Prisoners return to their cells or suffer pain.”

WIS (insight): 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (18) + 0 = 18
Zeroks frowns as he notices the creatures somehow communicating silently. He wasn't sure what that meant exactly--but anytime someone is plotting you have to assume they are plotting against you.
"Sorry. I'm too pretty for prison."
And he ends his sentence with a shot from his bow.

Reishi calls upon the power of nature, his goddess, and his abiding love of freedom and casts Heroism on Kag. "You made a grave error kidnapping and holding people against their will; especially us! Many died in those horrid pods suffocating in fluid. Surrender or be crushed."
Kag, you get 3 temporary hit points per round until the spell ends. They are the first to go if you take damage. Any unused disappear at the end of the spell. And you are immune to being frightened.

Kag Stonecleaver |

Nice. Duly noted.
"You put me in a keg. ME!"
Kag roars in their general direction and surges foward, Hammer A'swingin', trying to get to the one who speaks common.

Round: 3
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Zeroks' arrow and Voleryn's spell slam into one of the silent creatures simultaneously, definitely injuring it. Kag's angry follow-up strike fells it. The other creatures do not react at all to that, though Voleryn's question is answered in a dispassionate voice. “The jagladine masters abducted you for testing. An anomaly was discovered. After determining your point of origin you serve no further use and will undergo sterilization. Comply and we will spare you needless suffering.”
And with that, the two creatures hat are still standing attack Kag in a coordinated effort. The silent one uses its claws for two strikes that tear into the dwarf while the one that speaks slashes with a battleaxe. That blow sends Kag crashing to the floor unconscious. The two creatures step over the dwarf's body and move towards the group.
Andretta steps back as the light overhead flickers again and goes out. She chants for a brief moment and light flares from the dagger that was returned to her.

Kag Stonecleaver |

Keep in mind that while raging I take half damage from bludgeoning, slashing, and piercing damage, so from the last volley I took 8, and 3 of that went to temps.

Good catch, I did forget about that. Still learning, as I said. Your go.

The next few seconds are chaotic and messy with spells and attacks going awry until Kag manages to connect with a solid blow to the silent one. Almost immediately, it turns blue and falls over as Andretta casts the same spell as Voleryn, and it strikes the creature in the chest. As Kag pulls back his hammer, there is an audible cracking sound. Only one creature remains, and it shows no sign of giving up.

In the end, Zeroks has his way. The zvarrr's strike fells the creature. It drops its axe as it falls unconscious and is at your mercy.

Reishi pulls out some rope and says, "Let's find out some more about the jagladine abductors. Maybe we should sterilize him while he's out? Just kidding. Kag, you ok? Nice work everyone! We may just survive this insanity yet." Reishi then begins to tie the creature up.

Kag Stonecleaver |

Still enraged, Kag turns on one of the pods that held these creatures and begins smashing it. After about a minute, however, he calms down and turns to the group.
"Now I'm ok." Kag says in answer to Reishi's question.

![]() |

Tying up the unconscious creature is easily accomplished. After a few moments, it regains consciousness.

Zeroks |

While, Kag is unleashing his rage on the pod, Zeroks taps the creature on his face with the flat of his dagger.
"Wakey, wakey."
When he has its full attention, he says, "Now, we have woken up to a very confusing set of circumstances. And, as you might imagine, we have some questions. You, potentially, have answers. That gives you value to us. And this is a very good thing for you. It means we have an incentive to keep you alive. And, personally, I'm the kind of a guy who prefers that everyone gets to walk away from a deal happy."
"You see, while, I don't know these fine upstanding folk very well, I like to think that I'm a pretty good judge of character. Meaning, I know dangerous people when I see them. And, guess what--they're very dangerous. Just like me."
"And I'm betting that they're enough like me that when someone tries to kill them, they don't even take it personally. Things go bad. It happens. And this is another point in your favor."
Zeroks then pointedly looks at the dead creatures around him.
"You're just all kinds of lucky today, aren't you?" Zerok says while smiling.
"So how about you just tell us what we want to know, and you get a chance to think about a different line of work? What do you say? Better than slowly bleeding to death from your hamstring, right?"

In the same monotone voice as earlier, the creature responds, "The instructions are to sterilize you. If you cease your futile resistance, the end shall be quick. If not, the instructions may change." There is no indication that the creature cares about its own life.

Enjoying the roleplay, by the way.

Reishi heals Kag for 5 more hit points when Kag's finished destroying the pod. "You took the brunt of those attacks Kag. Thank you for holding steadfast." Looking to the creepy restrained creature he says, "What is the jagladine empire? Why does your ship appear to be malfunctioning? I'd recommend you answer fast and true."

![]() |

"The jagladine masters abducted you for testing for assimilation. But you have been weighed and measured, and you have been found wanting. It has been decided that sterilization is the correct course of action, especially after the meteor hit the prison." As if on cue, the facility shudders from several impacts and the lights flicker several times.

Zeroks |

"Okay, last question. And, remember, much depends on your answer. How do we get out of here?"

Kag Stonecleaver |

"You first." offers Kag before he smashes his hammer down into the floor next to it's head, then looks around to take stock of the other's reactions.
It's important to know where people stand on these things early. Saves heartache later. Kag thinks to himself.

Zeroks |

"Yeah, you could have at least waited til I got out of the way," Zeroks says while sputtering and spitting away a piece of skull that hit his lips.
He rips off a piece of the man's tunic and wiped away some of the excess blood that got on his face.
"Alright, I'm a little short on ideas. If there's a way out of here, I haven't noticed it. So I'm open to suggestions. Anybody?"
