Drael drives his enchanted straight through the face of the last remaining undead foe as it clings to his throat. The corpse bursts in an explosion of dust, bone shards, and rags, its form laid to rest - perhaps, finally. The suli irritably shakes off the clawed skeletal hand of the thing as he turns to survey his party.

    COMBAT END!

A few moments later, a plaintive cry comes from the darkened end of the passage where the team descended down the well. A split-second later, the pink-haired kineticist runs towards the group, all smiles.

Rab-rab, you are no longer panicked; you've got control of yourself once more.

The numbing silence takes after the shock of violence. Little remains of the undead forms within their individual piles of ruin, nor is there anything of interest in any further burial niches.

Despite this, the team resumes inching forward, checking each crypt and reacting to any unexplained sound with weapons and spells ready. Ahead, the western crypt passage ends in an elaborate stone door bearing a life-sized symbol of Sarenrae, except that where the symbol’s head should be, a blackened scorch mark mars the portal. The door stands very slightly ajar.

    What next?

Drael reaches out to the door, trying to scrub away the ash where Sarenrae's head used to be. He drops his arm to the side almost immediately in the realisation that the head has been destroyed. As his team forms up behind him with a sense of dread, the suli pushes open the stone door...

The chamber beyond stands in stark contrast to the craftsmanship of worked stone of the rest of the crypt. Here looms a vast cavern. The air is damp, cold, and moist, writhing roots hanging down from the ceiling twenty feet above. Puddles of reeking fluid dot the floor, and at the far end of the chamber, a jagged upthrust lance of stone rises from the ground to form a steeply-sloped platform.

Standing upon the upthrust stone shelf is a familiar form - a towering muscular man wielding an immense axe — Kardswann, the Mouth of the Carrion King.

    GM rolls: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (2) + 8 = 101d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

As you enter the room, the Carrion King chuckles - a dry, inhuman, croaking rasp that sounds nothing like Kardswann.

"Many years have I languished in this foul place, trapped here by the wards placed by your Pactmasters. Endless decades have I endured the whispering spirits of the wholesome dead, cursing my captors, hating the world I could no longer corrupt. When the Templar came eight weeks past, he walked through the walls, curse him. The red-men’s seal remained intact. But you, you have broken the seal, and my long captivity is finally at an end."

"But before I go, I will kill you one by one until the last of you willingly allows himself to be my slave. Which one of you, I wonder, shall that be?”

I'll allow you all an opportunity for some BBEG dialogue here. Also, you may each roll your initiative for this upcoming combat - but no other actions.

"You are an affront to the Dawnstar. You defaced a city worshipping her name and turned her faithfuls against the world they strive to better. That alone is reason enough for us to take you down."
    A short pause.
"... But I'm after something a bit more personal as well. Know this, Kardswann, or whoever you may be: every arrow I shoot at you, I do in name of Uzma Mahdi al Kalid!"

    Magic Bludgeoning Damage: 2d6 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3) + 5 = 12

I have to take a burn to do that, which sucks, and I know Drael's in the way. I don't like taking burn. But otherwise I can't get in a shot at all and I don't want to go into the room.

    Will Save: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 SUCCESS! Dazzled only.

The creature called Kardswann growls as the burst of positive energy sears its forms again. With a pop, Rab-rab's blast of concussive wind smacks Kardswann across the face.

    Min:
This creature is a glomeray daemon — a larger form of this planar creature with potent spell-like abilities than normal. You can ask two questions about resistances, weaknesses, immunities, special attacks, or spell-like abilities, Min.

    ROUND 3!

    Initiative Order:
  • Razif CONFUSED
  • Drael CONFUSED
  • Xulthos DAZZLED
  • Layaali CONFUSED
  • Rab-rab
  • Min
  • Drael Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 73 Deal damage to self
    Drael damage to self: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5 pts of damage, Drael!

The suli swoons in confusion, his face screwing up in rage. Suddenly, he smashes the flat of his great axe into his face, bloodying his nose!

Razif Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 10 You may act NORMALLY. Awaiting Razif's actions!

    Razif:
You can choose to plug your ears from the droning noise this round, getting to make the Will save again at a bonus. If you succeed, then you won't be affected again. Alternately, you could choose to act otherwise.

    Male NG Keleshite Ranger (Flamewarden) 5 | HP: 42/42| AC: 17(13 Tch, 15 Fl) | CMB: +5, CMD: 18 | F: +6, R: +7, W: +2; | Init: +3 | Perc: +7, | Speed 30ft | No current conditions | Ammo: 41 arrows

Razif plugs his ears, trying to resist the noise. "Get out of my head, Kardswann!"

    Razif Will Save, Bonus: 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 + 2 = 22 SUCCESS!

The ranger shakes his mind free of the droning buzz.

"Xulthos will make you PAY for that, little one!" the form calling itself Kardswann growls. Kardswann then vanishes, replaced by an immense insect-like fiend with huge claws, a multi-eyed face with slavering mandibles, and a long serpentine tail tipped with chitinous blades. Its wings are nearly transparent, and it moves with an almost hypnotic grace, its wings droning and light reflecting off his carapace in a dazzling display.

Xulthos' exoskeleton reflects light in a dazzling display, making it hard to watch for long. Opponents suffer a 10% miss chance to all attacks made against it and take a
–1 penalty on attack rolls while looking at the daemon. Please include this in your future attacks against Xulthos.

    (Slide 6 for a reference)

Xulthos then flies slowly down from its perch towards where Min cowers behind a stalagmite, lashing out at the sorcerer with its mandibles as it reaches its position.

    Melee Attack, Bite, Dazzled, Cover: 1d20 + 15 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 15 - 1 = 172d6 + 6 ⇒ (1, 3) + 6 = 10 MISS!

The bite snaps inches in front of Min's face as he swiftly ducks behind the stalagmite.

Layaali Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 24 Layaali, you may act normally.

    Layaali:
You can choose to plug your ears from the droning noise this round, getting to make the Will save again at a bonus. If you succeed, then you won't be affected again. Alternately, you could choose to act otherwise.

Layaali, Min, and Rab-rab may act!

    Male Gnome Sorcerer 5 | HP: 21/21 | AC 17 (T11, FF 14) (+2 dodge AC in desert) | CMB: +3 CMD: 15 | F:+3* R:+5* W:+8* | Init +2 | Perc +2, SM +0, Social +3 | Speed 20 ft. | Spells: 1st: 6/7, 2nd: 0/5 | MH: 1/1, O/C: 1/1, Pr: 1/1, US: 1/1 | Elemental Ray: 5/6 | Active Conditions: Mage Armor, Barkskin

Min wants to know its weaknesses and immunities.

Min takes a five-foot step back and tries really hard to cast his defensive spell defensively -- that looks like it would have hurt!

    Defensive Casting (DC 17; 1st level spell): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18

"Shields up! Defences prepared! Bad stuff, be GONE!" A cool blue aura emanates from Min, protecting him from evil!

Min casts protection from evil on himself. I already updated my stat line to the new numbers (assuming Xulthos evil).

    Female Gnome Kineticist 5 | HP: 25/42 | AC 16 (T14, FF 13) (Physical Ranged Attacks have 20% to miss her) | CMB: +1 CMD: 14 | F:+7* R:+7* W:+1* (+1 w/ animal close) | Init +3 | Perc +2, SM +0, Social +1 Speed 20 ft. | Burn: 0/6 | DL: 1/1, GS: 1/1, Pr: 1/1, SwA: 1/1 | CW: 1/1, CLW: 1/1, KD: 1/1, St: 1/1 | Eternal Hope: 1/1 | Active Conditions: Air Shroud (always), Enveloping Winds (always)

Rab-rab fires another blast of wind at the bug-monster, right through Drael's legs!

    Ranged Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 7 + 1 = 23 (This doesn't include cover from Drael)
    Magic B Damage: 2d6 + 5 + 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 5 + 1 = 8

    Female Aasimar Oracle of Vildeis 5 | HP: 36/44 | AC 12 (T 10, FF 12) | CMB: +1 CMD: 11 | F:3* R:+1* W:+5* | SR 10 | Init +1 | Perc +7, SM +7, Bluff +4, Diplomacy +14 | Speed 30 ft. | Spells: 1st: 0/7, 2nd: 0/5 | Channel Energy: 0/7, Empyreal Focus 1/1 | Active Conditions : life link (all but Drael)

Seeing Min in danger, Layaali puts her own needs aside, takes a quick five-foot step to the side, and casts out her arms, "Stay away from him!"

A burst of brilliant radiance surrounds the bug. Burst of radiance. Aiming it so it hits the bug and misses her friends.

    He's blinded for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds. If he succeeds at a DC 16 Reflex save he's dazzled instead. Also, he takes 4d4 ⇒ (4, 4, 2, 1) = 11 damage.

Layaali shakes her head, freeing her mind from her bewildered confusion for a brief moment.

    GM roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 SUCCESS!

Xulthos growls again at the holy energy scouring his form, but manages to avert his multiple eyes from the most intense part of the flash. Rab-rab sends a blast of air hurtling past the daemon, her eyesight somewhat dulled by the glare. The villain snarls at the appearance of the ward against evil surrounding the diminutive sorcerer.

    ROUND 4!

    Initiative Order:

  • Razif
  • Drael CONFUSED
  • Xulthos DAZZLED
  • Layaali CONFUSED
  • Rab-rab

Razif takes a shot at Xulthos before moving back behind the pillar, building up distance between himself and the confused Drael and Layaali.

    Attack: 1d20 + 7 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 1 + 1 - 1 = 11
    Damage: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 1 = 4

Razif's arrow plinks into the column (stalagmite)? Drael blinks in confusion. He then grunts, blinks again, and looks about slowly.

Drael Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 99 Attack nearest creature. 4 people equidistant from the suli, but only Xulthos is in an unobstructed spot, so I'll be kind.

The bloodrager growls and lashes out at Xulthos!

Drael, you may attack Xulthos (but nothing else)! Don't forget about the 10% miss chance.
