Journey to the East - Jade Regent (Inactive)

Game Master Severed Ronin

When a decades-old secret is exposed, an unassuming local tavern-owner and a close friend of the PCs discovers her birthright is to rule one of the ancient Dragon Empires of Tian Xia—the empire of Minkai. Yet the current ruler of this empire, the mysterious and increasingly cruel Jade Regent, has no intention of giving up his hold over the throne. In order to save Minkai from a would-be tyrant, the PCs must not only escort their friend from Varisia to Tian Xia, braving the frozen horrors of the Crown of the World, but must aid her in gaining the trust and support of a nation on the edge of anarchy.

Long benches in various states of disrepair and several battered and filthy wooden tables stand between stone pillars in this room. About fifteen feet ahead on the left is a door exiting the room and on the far right side of the room is another one as well. The air here stinks of reptiles and it's clear to you why. Several bipedal reptilians mill about the room, chattering in their own language. When the doors open, they turn surprised and snarl, baring sharp teeth and claws. A few brandish hefty-looking clubs.

Round 1____________Init 8

About to stept forward, Sir Gavin looks at Gyorgy with surprise.
"You wish to deal with them at the choke point? Very well. If it becomes too hot, withdraw and I will take your place."

Sir Gavin readies a 'trade places' maneuver.

Upon sight of the troglodytes, Corvus freezes and lets her mind take over, wondering what the best strategy to defeat these monsters could be. Kelda answers her thoughts as the Ulfen woman steps forward, moving past the group to attack the nearest troglodyte on her right which promptly falls under the weight of her blade. Mukluk bangs his pick against his buckler in as menacing a manner as possible and touches Gyorgy with a spell of surging strength. Treygan, content on letting his allies share the limelight this time around, stands in preparation should any enemies breach the doorway or flank around behind them. As his allies break into action, Jean looses a dagger that pierces the heart of one troglodyte and appears to do significant damage to him despite the fact that the trog remains standing, though barely. Jean moves up to this one and readies for his next assault. As Jean moves, Gyorgy steps into his spot, his muscles flexing and expanding with Mukluk's powerful spell surging through his body. He readies his spear to do it's worst and as the troglodytes begin their retaliation, Gyorgy manages to fell two of them. While the last one to continue fighting remains Jean's, he provides cover for three others to escape beyond the door Jean had stepped near. Leaving the door wide open as they make their escape, you can easily see down the short corridor they are trying to escape down. Nothing in the corridor jumps out at you.

After everyone else gives chase, Corvus remains put, her brain cells working overtime. Kelda steps forward, using the opportunity presented by Jean impaling the last trog to step forward and fell the troglodyte once and for all. The three fleeing troglodytes continue to flee save for one who turns to fend off the adventuring assailants.

Mukluk steps forward and aims down the sights with his wand, preparing for an opening. Treygan, ever the watchful captain, keeps his eyes on his allies, as if a chief watching over his tribe. Jean assists Kelda by impaling the remaining troglodyte with his rapier.

Stepping forward with his own spear, Gyorgy spears the one troglodyte turning to fend them off with the strength of Desna guiding his arm. Sir Gavin and the rest of the party rushes forward to catch the remaining trogs. The two leftover troglodytes turn to face their attackers.

Corvus, again having overanalyzed the situation and miscalculating, rushes forward in an attempt to hit the troglodyte, but misses wide as the troglodyte takes a quick jaunt backwards, having expected an attack.

Kelda takes a step forward, but does not move as Mukluk and Treygan move forward, the dwarf sending a spell of strength through Treygan's veins. "No reason to allow ourselves to be funneled into danger. I think your allies can handle themselves fine." She says to Treygan and Mukluk.

Jean's movement, blocked by the troglodyte, is not deterred, rushing forward and vaulting off the left wall, spiraling himself behind the troglodyte in a fantastical flip only capable by the truly dexterous. Unfortunately, with Jean being the only target fool enough to get near him, the troglodyte attacks, slamming his club into Jean as the pirate flies overhead. Jean manages to recover himself with little to no ease and graces the trog's back with the tip of his rapier, dealing a small bit of damage to the reptile.

Gyorgy taking advantage of the beast's lapse of attentiveness attacks again and spears the beast again, dealing a much more mortal blow to the beast. The beast stumbles but does not fall until Sir Gavin enters the fray to unleash the final assault, sending the reptile into it's death throes.

From ahead you hear a door slam, Jean able to glance back and see the door the escapees entered through (the one closest to you, Jean). A moment's reprieve allows Jean to gauge that there are more reptilian creatures behind the door though not many and that they only have a few seconds before back-up comes through the door.

We'll remain in initiative for this. Jean can tell that you have one round before any more enemies come through the door. He can audibly hear them preparing for battle.

Should anyone sneak up on them, the flank is aptly defended. Meanwhile, Gyorgy attacks from range with his spear, managing to skewer the lead trog decently enough, but failing to bring it down as well. Kelda withdraws a dagger from her waistband and tosses it at the troglodyte, but kisses, impaling the one behind it instead, only adding to the troglodytes anger. Round 5, Init 12

Mukluk looks at the big mother and laugh.

"You come to clean up this stinking mess? You should bring a big mop too...your boys tend to bleed."

Mukluk will stow his pick and draw his wand.

Round 5_______Init 8.3
Sir Gavin remains in position and attacks if the enemy comes in reach.
longsword attack: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14 for a possible 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 slashing and magic damage.

If my previous effort(?) was my AoO, I'm due an attack...

Her enthusiasm tempered by her swing and miss, Corvus is less sure she's getting the hang of her new blade so focuses on making contact, although this is against her natural style - which is to allow the attack to flow - but figures that she'll get to grips with her new sword sooner or later. And with huge brutes standing in front of her, sooner seems the better bet.

1d20 + 6 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 6 + 4 = 241d6 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8

The large brutish troglodyte smiles at Sir Gavin's comment then takes note of Corvus slicing her blade through the rigid scales of his brethren and stops cold, finally realizing the amount of viscera Mukluk mentioned surrounding them. He drops his morningstar and cries out, "I was just doing what the bird wanted! Spare me and I'll tell you whatever you want to know!" He pleads, kicking his morningstar towards the party as a sign of good faith.

György narrows his eyes, wary of being tricked by the troglodyte and asks, "Why don't you start by telling us of this bird whose orders you were working with."

"Yeah, what about these birds? What do they look like? Where are they?" Mukluk says while belting his pick and beginning to loot the fallen.

"They walk on legs like us and do not fly. Only his winged woman flies but she's not been seen since he stole her voice. Kikonu is his name. We came here to this castle and settled it's ruins but he came and took is. His magicks are too powerful for us. He would certainly kill you all lest you leave this place." he responds. At Mukluk's questions, he expands his answer. "He resides above on the castles main floor. He's usually in the throne room with his underlings. He tries to perform acts of entertainment but his art is lost to us."
