It sounds like it's an issue for several people. In lieu of that, I'm going to wait until tonight to move things forward, so Almar gets a chance to post. I apologize for the hold-up, but I know its frustrating to be gearing up for a combat and then not getting to act. It still seems unstable, so it might be best to wait until tonight regardless just to make sure we're not continually banging up against technical issues in the midst of the encounter.
DM Hamied |
No worries, Almar. It's hard to post some days...especially when the website is being difficult.
Now back to our regularly scheduled encounter! A note: Ameiko will join the fight shortly. I neglected to roll her initiative, but I've got a good place in the order for her to join in, since she was a step behind Setomi.
Perception - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Hrojnir:
Perception - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
Sigard:
Perception - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Almar's gun thunders, and his shot grazes Bjorn's arm. The Ulfen whips to the side, reacting to the sting. At that moment, a tremendous crash sounds from three hundred paces away.
Hrognir howls with fury as he leaps down from his horse. Reaching behind with one hand, he jerks the greataxe loose from where the leather straps hold it to his back. His milk-white eyes seem to pierce you even before he wades into the midst of your group. Hrognir ends his movement in N11. Technically, this provokes an attack of opportunity from Almar, but I think his only drawn weapon is his pistol, so I'm not sure he can take it.
Sigard pulls on his horse's reins and uncoils a leather whip with one flick of his wrist. The horse canters forward, and its rider flicks his wrist yet again.
Disarm Combat Maneuver - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (17) + 10 = 27
The whip cracks across Almar's fingers and knocks the pistol from his hand. It lands near the gunslinger's boot with a thud. Sigard (atop his horse) ends his movement in N,O,7,8. Almar has been disarmed, and his weapon lies in his square, at his feet. It will take a move action retrieve it, and such an action will provoke an attack of opportunity from Hrognir.

DM Hamied |
Setomi's blade cuts into the hide worn by the fierce Ulfen warrior, but it fails to strike his flesh.
Your foe barely seems to notice your attack; he stares at Raziel Holhiem as the priest makes his invocation.
At that moment, Ameiko steps out from the door of the Tattered Scarf, her rapier drawn and her voice carrying the beginnings of a Varisian ballad. Everbody gets a +1 competence bonus to attack and damage rolls (the morale bonus vs. fear effects will not stack with Raziel's).
Elsewhere, Sorin pushes up through the broken debris, trying to free himself from the collapsed building. You're making progress, but it will take a few more successful Strength checks in the ensuing rounds to escape.
Bjorn leaps from his horse, and drawing a short sword, runs up to Lisabett. He ends his movement in M10.

Lisabett Erikkson |
Lisabett casts Produce Flame, provoking an attack of opportunity from the threatening Bjorn.
Pre-emptive Combat Casting Check to complete spell, casting defensively vs DC 17? if uninjured 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 18
"You will not underestimate me!"
Lisabett Perception Check 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (11) + 7 = 18
What manner of assault is this? Was I wrong?
DM Hamied |
Hrognir seems to ignore the opening presented by Lisabett. He apparently obeys orders better than some wild men.
Bjorn is unwilling to ignore the threat of her magic, however.
Attack - 1d20 + 7 - 4 ⇒ (10) + 7 - 4 = 13
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 points of nonlethal damage
Lisabett, does the armor bonus on your character sheet assume Mage Armor, or are you wearing hide?
DM Hamied |
DM Hamied |
Almar, your firing from that square will still provoke an attack of opportunity from Hrognir.
As Almar steadies his hand, Hrognir's swift axe comes across the gunslinger's chest.
Attack of Opportunity (Power Attack) - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
If it hits, it deals 1d12 + 12 ⇒ (7) + 12 = 19 points of damage.
As ferocious a man as he is, Hrognir winces at the impact of Almar's shot. It only gives him momentary pause, however. He takes a quick stride and puts his axe back to work.
Attack vs. Almar (Cleave) - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (10) + 8 = 18
If it hits, it deals 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 points of damage.
Another blow strikes Almar. The force of the swing brings the axe head into Raziel.
Attack vs. Raziel (Cleave) - 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
If it hits, it deals 1d12 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 points of damage.
Holy crap...Cleave and Power Attack...
Almar is at 0 HP, and is Disabled.
Sigard's horse turns in a circle as it steps closer. He employs his whip against Almar's second gun.
Disarm Combat Maneuver - 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (15) + 10 = 25
Almar's pistol falls from his hand.

Setomi

Ameiko
Sorin
Bjorn
Lisabett
Setomi is up next.
Setomi |
Ok...I am not sure, but from where Setomi now stands, is she flanking Hrognir?? If she is , then she gets sneak attack damage, and if not, she will move (5' step) to N11 and flank with Raziel, which I think allows her to still do an all-out-attack. If this is wrong, just tell me and I will readjust her action.
Seeing Almar go down from the barbarian's axe, Setomi sweeps her wakizashi's in a graceful arc, striking the northman in two blindly fast strikes.
Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 26
Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 17
Comfirm Critical: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 24
Damage-Critical: 1d6 + 3 + 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (6) + 3 + (1, 1) = 18
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 3
Flicking her wrist, Setomi clears her blades of the northman's blood, spraying a fine red mist over his companion. Her eyes flashing with anger as she stands over the prone body of her team mate.
DM Hamied |
Almar is still standing, but he's not threatening, so you cannot flank with him from M12. I'd thought you couldn't move through an opponent's corner, but I looked it up, and you sure can...so let's have Setomi 5-Foot Step N11 as you've dictated.
I think you might be cheating yourself out of another point of damage on your critical (+2 enhancement, +1 strength, +1 inspire courage), so I'll figure it as 20 damage. What about the damage on the second attack? It definitely hits.
Setomi |
The second attack only does a 1d6, as it is from my off-hand weapon, which is only a MW wakizashi, which did 3 points of damage...it is under the "damage-critical" line. I had meant to say that if he did not fall, I can use 1 point of Ki and get a 3rd attack (swift action). I also was wondering, if such a 3rd attack could be used against Bjorn?? Thanks for reminding me about the inspire courage...I added it to the hit, but forgot the damage...kinda miffed that my sneak attack resulted in two 'ones'!! lol
Setomi |
Ahh..I see... and I believe that it only applies once, as per page 184 of PFRPG core rules. So if he did not fall, may Setomi use her swift action and 1 ki to make another attack? or is it too late?
Attack-if allowed; 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 + 1 + 2 = 26
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 2d6 ⇒ (4) + 3 + (6, 2) = 15
I believe I would still get sneak attack on the second attack, as he is still flanked, I think
DM Hamied |
Rough luck on the first two sneak attack rolls, but I suppose the critical offsets that. Your third attack drops Hrognir (and then some).
You cannot tell whether the feral warrior howls in joy or in pain as Setomi eviscerates him, but you are sure that he is dead. His hot entrails have spilled into the dusty street. Bjron and Sigard stare in disbelief. The latter speaks for the first time.
Ameiko continues her ballad, and, not missing a beat, she steps forward and presses a hand to the wounded Almar.
Cure Light Wounds - 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Bjorn attempts a slash at Setomi.
Attack - 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 points of damage.
His hand is unsteady, and his eyes betray his strike; Setomi easily avoids the Ulfen's attack. As he shifts his position (5-Foot Step into N10), he barks an order to his remaining companion.
Almar
Hrognir
Sigard
Setomi
Raziel
Ameiko
Sorin
Bjorn
Lisabett
I moved past Sorin for now, as his action isn't immediately relevant to the combat. I will need to see actions from both Sorin and Lisabett before I end the round.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Lisabett takes a five foot step back from Bjorn to M2 and unleashes her Storm Burst on the arrogant pig.
Lisabett Ranged Touch Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 if she hits, Bjorn will take 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 non-lethal damage and takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls for 1 round.
I think at this point it is safe to say that this dice roller hates Lisabett for combat...
Almar Ashfield |
Almar should be at 11 hp now
"Damn... this time I went really near Phrasma's black door! Let's se if I can deliver some payback!"
Almar uses a move action to retrive his pepperbox and shoots Bjorn in the face
Attack Roll (ranged touch):1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 8 - 4 = 23
Damage roll:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
DM Hamied |
The dice have been very unkind to Lisabett throughout the game. Hopefully we see that change at some point...
Almar, you face an additional -4 penalty. I notice you've already subtracted 4 from your total, but as you're firing into melee and into cover, the penalty unfortunately stacks. The good news is that you still very much hit!
Almar's shot hammers into the Ulfen man's helmet. Blood drips out over Bjorn's left eye. The look on his face is of resignation; he knows he will die this day.
So too does Sigard, it seems, for even as the horn he holds to his lips issues a mighty blast, he turns his steed and runs north, from whence the trio came.

Setomi is up next.
Almar Ashfield |
Even heavily wounded Almar realizes the caravan needs all possible information about the road haead, and knowing the strength of these reavers might very well be vital:"Surrender! You are outnumbered and your yellow bellied friend took the chance to run away and leave you here to die alone, no need for that if you throw your weapons down now. You fought well, there's no shame in this defeat against superior numbers"
Setomi |
Setomi again whips her swords towards the enemy, leaving twin cuts across the barbarian's body
Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 24
Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 4 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 3 + 1 = 10
Damage: 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Uses 1 ki for extra attack
As her second sword completes its slashing attack, Setomi strikes out with the first again, scoring a third strike against her enemy.
Attack-Melee: 1d20 + 5 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 5 + 1 + 1 = 23
Damage: 1d6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 3 + 1 = 6
DM Hamied |
Setomi's first two slashes spray the blood of her adversary into the dirt. Her third separates his head from his body; it rolls on the ground and comes to a rest staring at Lisabett.
A dozen riders break from the distant tree line at the sound of the horn and begin charging towards the town. They fly across the wide open ground, swords and axes gleaming in the sunlight. Galduria's arrows fly to meet them. You hear shouts in a familiar voice. Sandru.
Several of the mercenaries fall to the archers' fire. Sigard reaches his fellows, untouched by arrows, and rides past them, continuing north. Those riders that remain steer their horses around and follow. Moments later, it seems that all of the Ulfen mercenaries have fled or been killed.
All but Andres, Espen, and Ulrick, who come thundering out from the inn, weapons drawn. Mother Koya ambles out immediately after them, her eyes wide as she looks upon the bloody carnage in the street.
Ameiko's song ends. She stares at Setomi, her longtime friend, with a mixture of affection and fear.
Elsewhere, Sorin Nicusor's arm breaks through broken wood and thatch. The young woman, who minutes ago had nocked an arrow and aimed it at the paladin, desperately works to pull the debris off of her hero. When he is free, she embraces him tightly, weeping upon his bruised chest.
Thus ends initiative.
DM Hamied |
Almar, Lisabett, Raziel, and Setomi
Hrognir has no money whatsoever on his person. He wears hide armor, made less effective by your bladework. His only other possession seems to be his greataxe.
Bjorn's horse is still present, but Hrognir's has fled.
"You've ripped them to shreds so quickly, we did not even make it out the door before they were dead." Espen says, eyeing Setomi.
Sorin
"Thank you!" the woman manages between sobs. "I'd be dead if you hadn't...Desna's Stars! We need to get you to a healer!"
Lisabett Erikkson |
Lisabett hawks phlegm into her throat and spits in Bjorn's face. Her entire body is still covered in frost, as she has yet to release the power she was holding in reserve for this combat.
"He rape women," she slurs in her heavily accented trading tongue, reaches down and picks him up. "I leave bones to crows," she grumbles as she begins dragging him away.
Setomi |
Setomi is startled by the conflict between the two men and Lisabett. She tries to hurry after the Northwoman, turning to the two men and shaking her head sadly. "You do not understand what you say. I am sorry for you!"
She quickly catches up to Lisabett, saying nothing, but following her as she walks "north".
Lisabett Erikkson |
Lisabett walks for a time, frost sloughing off her in the summer heat, but quickly replaced by more caking over her flesh. She stops finally, to check for track, and recognizes that Setomi is following her. unless Setomi is retroactively making stealth checks?
Lisabett Survival (Track) 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18
"If he is desperate enough to risk horses for little gain, he would have sent at least one scout to surveil the raiding party. I seek Mistress Shalelu. Return to the others."
Setomi |
Setomi stops and looks at the angry young woman.
"So you would treat me like they treat you! Simply dismiss me as unnecessary!! The leader had a map that could lead us to this man you search for. This man you fear. Instead of treating me poorly, perhaps you might think of me as an ally!"
With that she spins on her heel, and stalks back to the others in town.
DM Hamied |
Almar and Raziel
Espen lets out a noise that can only be described as the meeting of a grumble and a laugh. "I've seen Bjorn looking better, that's sure."
Andres leans over the other warrior. "This one has the look of a Kalva man. And yet his axe was dedicated to the Captain. What can this mean?"
Mother Koya's hand comes to rest on Raziel's shoulder. "Bring two shovels, Raziel." Her soft voice conveys a deep sadness. "I will bear one myself."
Lisabett and Setomi
Just as Setomi turns from Lisabett, she notices Ameiko running up behind. She stops ten paces away and stares at her childhood friend, seemingly ignoring Lisabett.
At that moment, Sandru rounds the corner of a nearby building. Shalelu Andosana is but a few feet behind him, longbow in hand. "Lisabett! Setomi! Ameiko!" the Varisian shouts. "Are you harmed?"
