Alazandaru Viorec |
Alazandaru rears up from his hiding spot, a dagger in each hand. Smiling wickedly, he hurls a dagger from his right hand at the unsuspecting Goblin beneath him. He swiftly draws another from his belt to replace it.
Attack roll-
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24 VS FF AC (crit threat)
1d4 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (4) = 8
Confirmation roll-
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 VS FF AC (crit confirm?)
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Not going to snipe so anyone with LOS on me can now see me.
Almar Ashfield |
hearing the increasing louder chittering noise Almar comes out of the hut he was in and sees Lisbett fighting a goblin, he sheates his
[i]Damn! They are on her already! I can't risk hitting her I'll need to settle this up close![/b]
Almar sheats his pistol (move action) and pulls out his rapier moving to E8 (free action as part of movement).
Raziel Holhiem |
Round 1, Init 5
Raziel is alarmed that the party has spread out so far.
"Don't get seperated! he yells, hoping that Sorin won't move farther away.
After Alazandaru drops one of the goblins and Almar moves up, he relaxes a bit. Stepping forward, he points at the other goblin on the ground and allows Sarenrae's power of flame leap out at the goblin.
Move to G9.
Use Fire Bolt on goblin at D11.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Missed!
DM Hamied |
Almar tucks his pistol into his holster and vaults from the walkway onto the soggy ground.
Raziel looses a bolt of fire at one of the goblins, but it sails wide of its mark and sizzles in the mud. The goblin turns to look after it, fascinated.
That's Round 1. Let Round 2 begin!
Round 2
Sorin
Goblins (7-12)
Lisabett
Goblins (1-6)
Alazandaru
Almar
Raziel
Sorin is up first.
DM Hamied |

The moment Sorin closes the door, the goblins shriek in panic.
Goblins 7, 8, 9 and 10 run around the closed hut frantically, tossing the lit rocket back and forth among themselves.
A moment later, you hear a high-pitched whistle, followed by a loud POP.
Reflex Saves:
Goblin 7 - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Goblin 8 - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Goblin 9 - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Goblin 10 - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Lisabett is up.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Feeling pressured, Lisabett does the only thing that she can do in this situation, she slashes at the goblin directly in front of her with her spear and likely completely eviscerates it as she begins singing a fierce epic in Skald.
Lisabett Spear Attack 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 for 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9 damage.
DM Hamied |
Usually, a 5-foot step negates the issue, but it's a little harder on the cramped walkway. You're moving to D10 then?
Goblin 1 attacks Lisabett (AoO) - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 3 damage.
The goblin rakes his short sword across Lisabett's leg as she repositions herself, squealing in triumph for a moment before she puts her spear through his stomach.
Goblin 1 is dead.
Goblin 2 is dead.
Goblin 3 chases after the fiery bolt that missed her and drops prone, investigating the smoky trail issuing up from the mud.
Goblin 4 levels her red cylinder at Lisabett. (Full-Round Action)
Goblin 5 holds the torch to the back of the cylinder. Sparks shoot out all over him, and he squawks in dismay.
Goblin 6 runs to B11 and opens the door. She yips in surprise at the sight of Alazandaru.
Alazandaru is up next.
Alazandaru Viorec |
Boo... Alazandaru says softly, stepping swiftly to intercept the Goblin. His right hand dagger is intercepted and parried by the Goblin's short sword, but it is merely a feint. His left hand dagger slashes across the Goblin's abdomen.
5 foot to B10, full attack.
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Almar Ashfield |
Hearing the commotion and seeing Lisbet gut one of the critters, Almar charges the goblin who's aiming his firework towards her
I'm assuming to have a clear path towards it and having LoS, from the map it seems that way, if not just assume Almar reaches the goblin and attacks it normally (no +2 bonus to Attack Rolls)
Charge attack:1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
OK... I officially HATE this dice roller... in my last 7 rolls my best roll was an 11 and the others were ALL below ten!!!
DM Hamied |
The goblin aiming the firework is Goblin 4, who stands in F16, so I am assuming that Almar is planning to end his movement in F15.
The brown squares represent the raised walkway (5 feet up), and though there is an easily accessible ladder, it prevents the charge. Almar can reach Goblin 4 (in F16) with a move-move, but he won't be able to attack.
Yeah, the dice roller has not been kind to Almar or Raziel, it seems.
DM Hamied |
I should have specified in my post that Goblin 3 (she's the one that's studying the mud where Raziel's bolt hit) ended in C11. I probably also could have said that Goblins 4 and 5 (the two with the rocket) remained in F16 and F17 on their turns. My apologies for any confusion.
Also, I didn't really narrate it because I really dug the flavor AK put on it; Alazandaru's knife attack against Goblin 6 was successful, but it did not kill her (she's badly wounded).
Raziel is up next.
Raziel Holhiem |
Round 2, Init 5
Raziel edges over closer to Lisabett on the walkway above.
'Almar's going to be in trouble soon,' he thinks, as he aims another fire bolt at the goblin he shot at last time. 'And where has Sorin gotten off to?'
Raziel takes a 5' step to F9.
Fire 2nd firebolt at goblin at C11.
Ranged touch attack: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2
DM Hamied |
London! You guys get to go to such awesome places! Have a great time. As per your request, I will run Almar in your stead.
Raziel's fire bolt catches the goblin in the rear end. She squeals in pain.
Right on time with the ranged touch attack, even with the goblin's bonus for being prone. Anyway, that concludes Round 2. Let's begin Round 3.
Chief Rendwattle Gutwad - 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Round 3
Gutwad
Sorin
Goblins (7-12)
Lisabett
Goblins (1-6)
Alazandaru
Almar
Raziel
The door in O17 flies open. Due to positioning, only Almar sees what emerges
Another goblin, somewhat bulkier than the others and adorned in feathers, moves backwards through the open door, seemingly dragging something.
Sorin is up next.
DM Hamied |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Sorin opens the door to find three of the goblins lying on the floor, badly burned. The fourth cowers in the corner, whimpering. Tiny tongues of flame begin to spring from the places where the wood smolders.
Goblin 7 - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Goblin 7 stands up and attempts to tumble through Sorin's legs and off the walkway to K9. Because he is trying to move at full speed, he is not successful, and Sorin gets an Attack of Opportunity.
Goblin 8 is dead.
Goblin 9 is dead.
Goblin 10 is dead.
Goblins 11 runs out of the southeastern hut and moves to N16.
Goblins 12 runs out of the southeastern hut and moves to P16.
You hear a goblin voice, booming deeper and louder than the high pitched yapping of the others. Goblins 11 and 12 chirp and bark in response to it.
Lisabett is up next.
DM Hamied |
Goblin 1 is dead.
Goblin 2 is dead.
Goblin 3 stands up and puts her hands on her smoking rump. She runs towards the broken gate and ends her movement in E6.
Goblin 4 fires the red cylinder in Lisabett's direction. This provokes an Attack of Opportunity from Almar.
Almar (AoO) - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 points of damage.
Goblin 4 (Attack vs. F10) - 1d20 - 8 ⇒ (4) - 8 = -4
The rocket veers left and smashes into the side of the western hut (D13) with a high-pitched screech and a loud POP.
Goblin 5 moves back around the southwestern hut and comes around to Almar's other side, ending in D15.
Goblin 6 stabs at Alazandaru with her short sword.
Attack - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 3 points of damage.
Alazandaru is up next.
Alazandaru Viorec |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Alazandaru felt a little sorry for the desperate Goblin fighting him- she was completely outmatched and she seemed to know it, almost dropping her sword in her futile slash, which the agile young warrior simpled hopped over. Alazandaru was not comfortable with slaying a woman and besides, he justified to himself, the group would need someone to interrogate. Then again, he was not one to let his guard down even against an outmatched opponent... His decision made, Alazandaru waited for an opening, spun on his heel and attempted to stab the Goblin just below the shoulder.
Single attack.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
I'm sorry. I'll try and get you patched up before you bleed out.
DM Hamied |
Alazandaru's knife scrapes bone. The goblin grabs at her shoulder and doubles over in pain, falling forward in a slump. The goblin would normally be dead at 0 HP, but I'll allow you to attempt to stabilize her with a Heal check.
Taking Almar's action (since he won't be able to post for a few days).
Almar attacks Goblin 4 with his rapier - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4 points of damage.
The goblin ducks under Almar's thrust. Almar takes a 5-foot step backwards into F14.
There is still an AoO available to Sorin if he'd like to take it. Raziel is up next.
Sorin Nicusor |
While this sorry creature seems of little threat now, the danger of these explosive weapons is all too clear. He now wonders at the terror those in the caravan must have felt when being attacked by these strange weapons.
AoO 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Damage 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
DM Hamied |
It's been 24 hours since Raziel's turn came up, so I'm going to go ahead and move on with initiative (and in this case, end the round). Raziel is considered to be delaying until he can post again, at which point, he will take a new place in the initiative order. I know weekends are slow, but I'd like to keep things moving.
It might be a good time to recap how I handle initiative. If a player doesn't post within 24 hours of their turn, I will consider them to be taking the delay action. If 48 hours go by, I will take over the character's actions until 1) they are able to post again, or 2) the combat ends. I don't like to take choice out of the hands of players (unless they specifically request it, as Almar did), but at some point, a combat tuned for five characters can get really dangerous if one or more members are inactive.
I hope this doesn't sound heavy-handed, and I want it clear that I'm not targeting Raziel. Sometimes its difficult to find the opportunity to post, especially on weekends. I just want to keep things moving for the rest of the players.
In any case, that's the end of Round 3.
Round 4
Gutwad
Sorin
Goblins (7-12)
Lisabett
Goblins (1-6)
Alazandaru
Almar
Raziel (?)
Chief Gutwad, with the help of Goblins 11 and 12, tosses a large chest into the mud. It lands in O15. Gutwad then moves to I16, drawing his bow as he does so.
Sorin is up next.
DM Hamied |
DM Hamied |
Lisabett's ray lands near the feet of the goblin, but it fails to strike the creature.
Goblin 1 is dead.
Goblin 2 is dead.
Goblin 3 runs straight ahead, out into the swamp.
Goblin 4 steps forward, pulling out her sword. She slashes at Almar - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 3 points of damage.
Goblin 5 steps forward, drawing his sword. He slashes at Almar - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 1 points of damage.
Goblin 6 is incapacitated and dying.
Alazandaru is up next.
Alazandaru Viorec |
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 1 = 20 Heal (DC15)
Performing enough first aid to keep the fallen female alive for now, Alazandaru moves to B14 and attempts to keep himself concealed from the two Goblins on the walkway by using the hut as cover.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 14 Stealth
DM Hamied |
No problem, Raziel. We'll put you before Almar in the initiative order from now on.
Almar pushes aside the goblins' blades with his rapier. Finding an opening, he presses the attack. - 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 points of damage.
His blade finds home in the goblin's right eye. His foe falls silently. Almar steps back to F13.
That concludes Round 4.
Round 5:
Gutwad
Sorin
Goblins (7-12)
Lisabett
Goblins (1-6)
Alazandaru
Raziel
Almar
Chief Gutwad, a slight larger goblin adorned in scraggly feathers, moves to F19. He fires his bow at Almar. 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
If it hits, it deals 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 points of damage.
The arrow sinks into Almar's shoulder.
Sorin is up next.
DM Hamied |
I'll put the Climb DC at 10.
The +12 is not a typo, at least not on my part. I've taken Chief Gutwad's stats right out of the AP, and it lists him at +9 to hit with his masterwork composite longbow. +4 of that is from his 18 Dex, +3 is from his BAB, +1 is from the masterwork bow...I can't figure out where the other +1 is coming in, however, and I'm likely to drop it down to +8 and consider it a misprint. Even with that change, the arrow still strikes Almar's AC of 17.
The extra +3 comes from Point-Blank Shot and Favored Enemy: Human (also from the AP).
Chief Gutwad is a nasty opponent, but he has his limitations.
Sorin Nicusor |
Sorin moves to J15 as his first move and attempts to climb up to J16 but cannot get a solid grip.
Climb check 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (4) - 1 = 3
In fact, Sorin falls prone in J15 unless he can claim the -5 DC bonus for having perpendicular surfaces from the hut. Either way his move is done.
DM Hamied |
The walkway is raised on posts, so there isn't really a perpendicular surface to brace yourself on. That said, you're not even a full five feet up when you fall; if everybody is able to run off the walkway with no penalty, I won't have you fall prone for failing to pull yourself up on to it.
Goblin 7 is dead.
Goblin 8 is dead.
Goblin 9 is dead.
Goblin 10 is dead.
Goblin 11 barks something and moves to F18.
Goblin 12 moves through the already open doors of the central, northern hut and ends in H10. He swings his short sword at Raziel. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 2 = 17
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 4 points of damage.
Lisabett is up next.
Lisabett Erikkson |
Alright, let's try something new and see if Lisabett will be effective in this combat at all!
Lisabett casts Minute Meteors targeting the goblin at H10 and if it does not pass a Reflex Saving Throw DC 14, it takes 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5 points of fire damage.
After casting, Lisabett will move to position F12 with the intent of assisting Alamar should he fall.
DM Hamied |
Goblin 12: Reflex Save - 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Goblin 1 is dead.
Goblin 2 is dead.
Goblin 3 has fled.
Goblin 4 is dead.
Goblin 5 barks something and moves the long way around the southwestern hut to C19, running right by where Alazandaru hides. He will provoke an AoO from Alazandaru. I have debated whether or not to grant sneak attack (the AoO isn't technically provoked until the goblin leaves B15, due to the cover from the corner in C15) because Alazandaru would be not have cover (and thus, not be able to remain hidden). In the end, though, the goblin is distracted (failed Perception check) while moving, so I will grant sneak attack to the AoO.
Goblin 6 is incapacitated and dying.
Alazandaru is up next, both with an AoO and his regular turn.
Alazandaru Viorec |
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 VS FF AC
Alazandaru is as surprised to see the Goblin as the Goblin is to see him, and his hasty slash to cut down the creature is easily evaded. He tries the same tactic as before, moving slowly to E15 while maintaining cover using the hut to remain hidden.
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10 Stealth
If an AOO occurs like last time-
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
1d4 + 2 + 1d8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (3) = 7
Raziel Holhiem |
Round 3
Raziel sees Almar solidly hit by the chief's arrow. With Lisabett rushing up, he sees no good way for himself to quickly get to Almar's aid, and so makes his decision.
While fending off the goblin attacking him, Raziel presents his holy symbol in his free hand and channels the power of Sarenrae through himself, trying to keep her gift from reaching the nearby fallen goblins.
I am going to use a healing channel. I see it does not provoke an AoO, so the goblin on me will not get one.
It will reach everyone in our party. I will exclude goblins 5 and 6 (if it brings back other goblins, too bad, we need healing more).
1d6 ⇒ 5
AC 16 (still not using buckler), HP 10/10 (after healing channel)
3/5 Channels left.
DM Hamied |
AK, the second AoO you rolled is preemptive, right (in case another goblin runs by you)?
Almar sheathes his rapier and draws his pistol, moving to I16.
That will end Round 5.
Round 6:
Gutwad
Sorin
Goblins (7-12)
Lisabett
Goblins (1-6)
Alazandaru
Raziel
Almar
Gutwad bellows with laughter as he draws his bow again, but he does not fire. Instead, he taunts Almar in broken Common. "We thought they the dead men, but they not the dead men. But they be the dead men soon!". Demoralize Attempt - 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Almar is not fazed by the goblin's words.
Afterwards, Gutwad will move to D19.
Sorin is up next.
DM Hamied |
Goblin 7 is dead.
Goblin 8 is dead.
Goblin 9 is dead.
Goblin 10 is dead.
Goblin 11 pulls out a red cylinder and levels it at Sorin while taking a 5-Foot Step backwards to F19.
Goblin 12 attacks Raziel again with his short sword. 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
If it hits, it deals 1d4 ⇒ 3 points of damage.
Lisabett is up next.
