Giant_DM |
Cabe moves but his blow hits the orc's leather armor.
The two non-dazed orc's attack Falric and Morti, respectively:
Attack on Falric: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23...misses the agile halfling
Attack on Morti: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14...hit the unbalanced dwarf after the charge, dealing a vicious blow to the dwarf's mid-section!
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
-2 hps and -10 hps respectively!
Morti's orc snickers as he coughs up blood, "If I die, I am taking you with me filthy midget!"
Meanwhile in the burning house, Barundar and the woman hoist the beam together. "Please hold the beam while I pull Sara out and careful not burn her or yourself!" Barundar struggles against the weight. Need Str check this round.
Party is up!
Morti Hearthstone |
greataxe power attack: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 4 + 1 = 19
damage: 1d12 + 7 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 7 + 1 = 19
gotta imagine that drops him -- also remembered my racial bonus to attack and trait bonus to damage this time!
"In yer dreams," replies Morti as the orc falls, before attempting to maneuver into flanking position with Falric.
Barundar Hammerfist |
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Barundar struggles against the weight of the beam, shouting a dwarven curse as he strains to keep it high enough to get Sara out from under it!
Hopefully that's enough...
Falric Dawnstriker |
Falric strikes with his scimitar again at the grievously wounded orc in front of him!
I was also forgetting +1 hit bonus from campaign trait.
Attack: 1d20 + 7 - 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 7 - 4 + 1 = 21
Damage: 1d4 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7
AC: 27
Giant_DM |
With a flank from Morti, Falric does extra 1d6 ⇒ 6 damage so he he shoves his scimitar into the orc's ribcage, just like his mentor taught him, killing the orc!
Morti decapitates his orc.
Elise, the sole orc standing cannot be Dazed again.
Barundar fails to hold the beam and it falls to the ground, burning him for 1d4 ⇒ 1 fire damage. The human woman curses at Barundar and together they lift the beam up again and again, she asks Barundar to hold it.Barundar can roll another Str check next round.
Elisen and Cabe, then the fresh orc.
Giant_DM |
Cabe's blow again misses the mark, just barely.
The lone orc looks worried but tries to take out the most wounded of his attackers: Morti. He swings his greataxe on the inquisitor, landing almost a perfect blow on his chest, cutting through flesh and bone! Morti's scream of pain is cut short, as he drops unconscious to the floor, as his blood spurts outs from the grievous wound.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
Damage: 1d12 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Morti at -4/26 hps.
Party is up and Barundar needs to make a Str check.
Falric Dawnstriker |
Falric looks in horror as his ally is dropped by the powerful orc! He tries to avenge his fallen friend, but he forgets his fundamentals and unleashes a wild strike that misses.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 8 - 4 = 6...miss!
Barundar Hammerfist |
Geez, that's gonna be tough with only a +3 bonus to strength. Even if someone could help me do it I'd still need a 15 to make it...which brings to mind a question. If I went and helped the others with the last half-orc, could we get back her in time to get her out by tag-teaming the beam with a bunch of aid-another rolls?
Giant_DM |
Sounds very meta...you have no idea where your friends are or that they are involved in combat. Second if you leave, you will need to make new Fort saves when you come back in. Sara looks very badly injured and she is closer to death each round. You have no ranks in Heal so you have no idea how bad she is other than the open bleeding gash on the side of her head. Cabe, similarly you have no idea what Barundar is doing and you may want to concentrate on saving the inquisitor who was just dropped. But play as you want. Need your actions please.
Barundar Hammerfist |
My mistake then; I didn't realize they were separate from me. I assumed we were all in the same building, not separated from each other and outside visual range. I wouldn't have even suggested it otherwise.
Barundar Hammerfist |
Crap on a cracker, I forgot to roll in the last post. Sorry! Here it is. Apologies if it slowed us down.
Barundar draws in a deep breath, setting his feet on the ground as he braces against the timber he is trying to move. "Ye stupid bloody log, by Torag's beard, MOOOVVEEE!!!" he screams, putting as much strength as he can muster into it!
Strength Check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (19) + 3 = 22
Giant_DM |
Cabe steps back 5' and stabilizes Morti.
Meanwhile in a rare Herculean effort, Barundar, his muscles strained to the maximum, accomplishes the impossible and lifts the beam long enough for the woman to pull the unconscious Sara Morninghawk out to safety. Bar then tosses the beam to the side and next round you can carry her out of the burning house.
Round 3:
The remaining orc gets bashed in the face by Elisen, so he tries to put his greataxe in her chest but thankfully her magical armor deflects the blow enough for her to avoid any damage.
1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14...miss!
Party is up!
Elisen Renard |
Eli was surprised how much she was enjoying the up close battle. She swung her heavy staff once more.
Attack 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Barundar Hammerfist |
Barundar lifts the unconscious woman from the ground and carries her out of the house as quick as he can, a part of him surprised that there is still strength enough in his arms to actually do so.
Falric Dawnstriker |
Falric moves to flank with Elly, "What are you doing, girl? This thing just dropped Morti. Stay away!" He stabs at the orc.
Attack: 1d20 + 8 - 4 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 4 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (1) = 7
Giant_DM |
Falric's blade cuts through the orc's belly wounding him severely, but the enemy still stands. However, he is distracted enough that he wishes to bring his greataxe down the on the halfling's head instead of Elly's.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (2) + 5 = 7...miss!
Meanwhile, Cabe drags the prone and unconscious Morti away from the orc.
Party is up again.
Falric Dawnstriker |
Falric easily dodges the orc's weak blow. "This is what for you all did to Morti!" The halfling goes on the offensive and tries to disembowel the orc!
Attack: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18
Damage: 1d4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (3) = 9
AC: 21
Elisen Renard |
Eli takes a 5' step and flanks with Falric. "I'm trying to keep him from killing you, darn it," she grunted as she swung her staff.
Attack 1d20 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 2 = 9
Damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Giant_DM |
Falric indeed guts the orc and it collapses to the ground. Barundar exits the burning building soot-covered with Sara in his arms and puts her gently down on the street. Cabe rushes over and channels energy healing Morti and Sara: 2d6 ⇒ (4, 4) = 8
Both Sara and Morti regain consciousness. Sara whispers "Agrit, my love what happened?" The human woman cradles Sara's head on her lap and says through tears "I thought I lost you Sara! A boulder struck our home setting it on fire and then the beam fell on you. Thought you were dead...and you would have if not for this brave and strong dwarf! Bless you sir for saving the love of my life."
The two women look appreciatively at Barundar.
Falric Dawnstriker |
Eli takes a 5' step and flanks with Falric. "I'm trying to keep him from killing you, darn it," she grunted as she swung her staff.
"Bah, those orcs could not lay a hand on me. Poor Morti in the other hand...how you doing buddy?"
Barundar Hammerfist |
Alarmed at seeing Morti's state, Barundar quickly makes sure Sara. "Er...dinnae mention it! Only glad I cuild hulp. Morti! Brother, are ye alright? I know this isnae tha best time, but we jus' got Sara away from a burnin' hoose! Ye think ye cuild hae a peek at 'er?"
Giant_DM |
Agrit speaks, "Thank you for saving my lover's life. I can't thank you enough. As a token of my appreciation, I give you this." She removes her gold necklace set with beautiful white agates and moonstones. She gives Barundar a kiss on the cheek. "Please save the town." She wraps the now conscious Sara's arm around her neck and they start to hobble toward the gate and assuming you mention it, the clerics' tent. Morti is conscious at 3 hps.
On the orcs, you find 3 sets of studded leather and 3 greataxes.
Elisen Renard |
"There's a group of healers just a bit back. Take Sara back that way and you'll be there in no time. We do have to leave you, though. There's more orcs to slay, right, boys?"
Falric Dawnstriker |
"Aye, let's get back to work. Ladies, be safe." Falric detects magic on the orc corpses and then moves to the well and detects magic there as well.
Morti Hearthstone |
Sitting up on the ground and looking up at Barundar, Morti makes a disgusted noise. "Ahm apparently careless, but alive despi' it. If I meet my end a' th' hands of a common orc, do me a favor an' don' tell me family."
The dwarf picks himself up and casts a quick heal on himself. cure light wounds: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Ugun, half-orc witch |
A wild-eyed half-orc hefted a large axe and slammed into the head of a fallen orc. The head splattered like a ripe pumpkin and the half-orc wiped blood from his arms and looked about what other enemy was about.
Before the companions turned their weapons on him, Agrit quickly stepped up, ”No, he’s… with us. This is Ugur, long-time resident here.”
Ugur stopped a second, his chest heaving, as he took in the companions. A sleek, black ferret crawled from his tunic and wrapped around his neck. Ugur whispered to it, ”It’s OK, Luz. We’ll make it through. They won’t get you.” The ferret chirped back to the half-orc.
He looked at the dwarf who seemed to be in charge, ”Where are you going?” He gripped the shaft of his greataxe until his knuckles turned white. ”I can kill orcs!”
Agrit chastised, ”We all can kill Ugur; you know you’re more valuable than that. You can heal.”
Ugur turned an angry eye to the Agrit, his oversized tusks prominent on his face. He lowered his weapon and his countenance softened, ”Yes, I can heal. Here let me see to Sara.”
One of the scarifications on his shoulder quivered and the half-orc winced as if in pain. He laid his hand on Sara and her wounds healed; Ugur’s face became calm but his eyes still held their wild look. ”Let’s go kill orcs?”
Giant_DM |
Cabe looks in shock, as the two women depart. "Sara is in love...with another woman?? I never had a chance with her...I am such a fool!" He converts his spells to healing energy and heals Morti to full hit points, interrupting the inquisitor before he uses his own magic. "Save your spells...you're going to need them." After he is done, he looks at the party. "My reason for saving this town...just walked away with another..woman. I can't do this. I am sorry. Good luck." No amount of persuasion or intimidation will change the humiliated cleric's mind and he walks away ashamed and dejected. Hope that felt natural...BT had roleplayed up his undying love for Sara up to now.
Falric detects no magic on the orcs' corpses. Near the well, the inquisitive halfling does find a macabre scene:
Bodies of all kinds—orcs and humans, men and women, children and the elderly—lie scattered across the cobblestones where they fell. Veins of watery blood crawl from the base of the well in the center of the square, spreading from the limp body of a slain Trunauan guard draped over the side of the well.
Near the guard's body, Falric finds the following: a longsword, a heavy steel shield, 10 crossbow bolts, a healer’s kit with all 10 uses remaining, 50 feet of hemp rope, broken scale mail—a long gash runs down the side where the soldier was fatally wounded. A potion lies in the bloody mud at the base of the well near the dead guard's hand. It radiates magic.
As you look north from the well, you see shadows of orcs at a distance storming through and investigating several homes to the NE (most likely looting). To the NW, Falric hears yells and shouts coming from inside The Killin' Ground, Trunau's most popular tavern. To where do you head?
Morti Hearthstone |
which way / how far to the other beacons? Are these events to the north en route/in the way?
Morti Hearthstone |
"poor lad - hope 'e maintains enough sense t' keep from gettin' kilt tonight." Morti says, trying to stretch out some of the lingering soreness from his wounds as Cabe departs. "I s'pose th' rest of us'd best get on wi' it, though." he sighs, looking towards the tavern.
Falric Dawnstriker |
"That is rough Cabe, take care." With a grin on his face, Falric says to himself loud enough for his fellow dwarves to hear, "It's a shocker that the dwarves vote to save the tavern! Alright, let's go save the beer!"
Barundar Hammerfist |
Barundar doesn't respond as Cabe leaves the group, simply watching as the man departs, though the look in his eyes makes clear enough that he's not happy about it. "Well, are we off ta th' Killin' Ground?" he asks, readying his dorn dergar.
Giant_DM |
Sorry for delay....hope everyone had Happy Turkey day! And yes, the Tavern as well the houses being looted are all in the direction you need to go.
Falric leads the party into the Killin' Ground, which given the circumstances, is now very aptly named. The corpses of about 8 patrons lie bloodied on the floor. Mugs of ale are spilled over and mixed with blood and chairs and tables are splintered or turned over. Behind the bar stands a confident half-orc dressed in a chain shirt, wielding a greataxe, whose blade is dripping with blood. Near him stands a 6' Viking-looking human wielding a longspear. Behind the half-orc down a corridor you can see two more human Viking warriors shouting insults and slamming their shoulder into a door in an effort to break it down, without success. You someone scream from behind the door, "Go away, I'll pay you whatever you need. Just leave me alone please! HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!"
The half-orc and the Viking warrior smile at the party, "Ya walked into the wrong bar, comrades!" They move to attack!
Initiative:
Rishka the Half-orc: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Viking Thugs: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7
Barundar: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Elisen: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Falric: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22
Morti: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Ugun: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Falric is up!
Falric Dawnstriker |
Falric looks at the half-orc and smiles, "I'm going to wipe that smug look off your face!" With scimitar in hand, he heads straight toward the half-orc, before the Viking warrior can react, flips onto the bar, lands gracefully, and then fighting defensively, stabs the half-orc in the chest!
Acrobatics check to leap onto the bar: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (12) + 11 = 23
Attack roll vs. FF AC: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (12) + 8 - 4 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 5 + (3) = 9
AC: 27
Giant_DM |
The wily halfling reacts a second faster than Rishka, and shows off his tumbling skills and his accuracy by stabbing and drawing blood! Rishka is incensed and he brings down his beautifully crafted greataxe on the nimble halfling, a blow that would have struck anyone else, but that only manages to mar the bar counter, as he misses by a mile.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16...miss!
Rishka - 9 hps.
Elisen, Barundar, and Morti are up!
Ugun, half-orc witch |
before party burst in
Being barricaded inside the room gave Ugun more time to think. More time to brood. A name came coming back to his head, fueling his anger. Twisted Nail. Twisted Nail. Twisted Nail.
He turned to Rabus, "This my chance to kill them all or die trying."
The half-orc pulled out his wand and coaxed it to cover himself in overlaying plates of green lizard skin. He knew the magic wouldn't last very long but he needed protection if he was going to go out there and chop off orc heads.
He spoke to the black ferret that had wrapped itself on its neck, "Don't you worry, Luz. we'll get out of here alive. Covered in enemy blood maybe but alive."
Ugun tried to convince Rabus to open up the door to no avail. The bartender seemed shocked into inaction. It was then that he heard people come in and Rabus call for help...

I hope the above is OK. Now waiting on initiative...
