Character Background:
Barundar originally hails from the dwarven stronghold of Janderhoff, one of the few strongholds constructed during the Quest for the Sky that has not since fallen to orcish conquest. As such, the city has a rich and storied history for the dwarves...but unfortunately (to his eyes) not every dwarf is as interested in that history as Barundar Hammerfist.

Since he was but a lad, even while he was training in the art of physical combat, Barundar has been fascinated by the history of the dwarves. This was almost certainly due, in large part, to the stories that his father told the impressionable youth of Azaghâl Flintbreaker, a distant, larger-than-life ancestor well-known for his use of the dorn dergar, or chain-flail, in combat. According to the stories, Azaghâl was particularly adept at using the reach of the weapon to fell giantfolk, such that it was said the giants came to fear the name Flintbreaker. These stories inspired Barundar to pursue his ancestor's legend with abandon, and though he did learn his race's typical stonecraft and knowledge of things beneath the surface, he also steeped himself in the history of the dwarven people. When he was of age, and when he had displayed a reasonable skill with the weapon, Barundar's father presented him with his own dorn dergar. Having one that he could truly call his own only inflamed his passion for the weapon's history even more and he longed to learn more about the history of his people, particularly his storied ancestor. Not just legend, though, but the truth of the dwarf that time had likely caused to fade.

Eventually, though, what he perceived as disinterest among his kinsmen began to wear on him, and though he still shared their love of stone and rock, it was no longer enough for him to stay in Janderhoff with the books that were there about his ancestry; he wanted to talk to someone who knew it. Really and truly knew it. And that was when he remembered a name very rarely spoken amongst his clan, the name of a great-aunt that had left some years before because her interest in the magical arts drove a rift between she and her family: Agrit Staginsdar. He spent some time surreptitiously researching what had happened to his relative, making subtle inquiries, until he finally learned that she had settled in the border town of Trunau, in the Hold of Belkzen.

Though it was a distance away, Barundar also knew that speaking to her might also be his greatest chance to learn more of his heritage and the legacy left by the Flintbreaker blood that flowed in his veins. So with little more ado than an announcement that he was going on a pilgrimage, Barundar left Janderhoff to head for Trunau, hoping to discover more about the history of the noble Flintbreaker blood that flowed through his veins.
