What is the status of the man that Orslaw and I were trying to protect?

DM / GM / The man behind the curtain

@Bessie: Good question. the hornet facing Orslaw is nearly down and looks horribly ragged but the other wasp has just gotten a good grasp on the young man and has his feet about a foot off the ground.

You go! Bessie shouts as she mutters a curse under her breath and stops.

After cursing her life choices, Bessie will prepare for her next action... attempt to "tackle" the man the wasp is trying to carry and hopefully break the grapple - not sure how you want to adjudicate that action... bull rush, grapple, aid another, fly check????

Bessie tries to hold onto the man and dig in her heels as she lets out a string of curses and is drug across the ground by the giant wasp-hornet-bee thingy.

DM / GM / The man behind the curtain

Guillaume steps back to get a clear shot of the hornet menacing him. He hits it with another blast. The thing looks worse for ware but like a pit bull, it's now only seeing red. The hornet retaliates and strikes Guillaume with its stinger. He feels a nasty burning pain where it pierced him.

Vlad manages to avoid getting tagged by the giant insect. Meanwhile, over with Orslaw and Bessie, the victim being carried away is not so lucky. The hornet thinking it is the man resisting, stings him. The poor fellow collapses and ceases struggling.

@bessie: Orslaw missed so you are still grappling, more like holding.

Guillaume shatters his target into pieces. Then he notices someone in the crows nest waving a mallet at three hornets who have taken an interest in his position. Most everyone else seems to be nearing safety other than the man Orslaw and Bessie are trying to save.

DM / GM / The man behind the curtain

The hornet finally decides the extra weight is not worth it and flies up and away leaving the wounded man convulsing from the poison behind. With all of the other hornets flying away Orslaw, at least, notices the man trapped in the crows nest. Bessie is a bit distracted with the dying man.

Nasifi's attack drops the hornet nearest her and then Guillaume finishes off his. The last remaining hornet out of a limited understanding of self preservation flies off to join the now withdrawing swarm.

The fates are not kind. As the hornet flies off you notice a ship pulling up to the docks. There is only supposed to be a single ship at dock at any one time to ensure the anonymity of vessels that are refit. Is this a strange accident or a pirate hunter?

It is a Chellish vessel flying no colors. A skiff pulls up alongside the dock and a group of armed men crawl onto the dock. Shortly afterward they form a semi-circle and look about anxiously. Bessie recognizes one of the men in the defensive line as Free Captain Merrill Pegsworthy.

Upon seeing the men depart the ship, he relaxes a bit since they are not dressed in the traditional livery of the Chellish navy.

"Captain, we may be in a bit of a pickle with them seeing our ship durin' squibbin'. My vote is we take them out 'afore they have a chance to spread the news of the Perilous Pearl's previous name. Your orders?" Orslaw draws steel, but waits anxiously for Guillaume.

Male Tiefling Bloodrager 4 (Primalist, Steelblood)

After a long moment watching the other ship, Guillaume shakes his head. "Put up your steel, sailor. Let's remain beneath the waves for now, find out what we're getting ourselves into before we commit to combat. What do we know of this Free Captain Pegsworthy?"

Knowledge(Local): 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21 To know anything about Pegsworthy specifically, of Free Captains generally.

DM / GM / The man behind the curtain

The Free Captains are merely the pirate captains of the shackles. They are a constant thorn in the side of those who attempt to sail through and in particular to Cheliax. Free Captain Pegsworthy commands three vessels; the Bonaventure, the Drale, and the Hound. It is rumored he was once in the Andoran military and he wears (you can see) an Andoran officer's jacket. He has a reputation for being honorable and keeping his word while being down right nasty in a fight. The fact that he and Harrigan are on the outs is no secret.

Seeing Guillaume's calm demeanor and then Orslaw sheathing his sword, Pegsworthy relaxes a little. Then Rickety steps out beside Guillaume.

"There was no flags, Rickety," the free captain calls out. Everyone remembers the flags that went up when they first pulled into the mouth of the river to come up to the dock. "Are we good?" Pegsworthy asks and Rickety looks at Guillaume. "Mind if we hear him out, Captain?"
