The group has just finished off the search team of lamias and giants. Celegon noted the lamias knew the team was in the building. He mentioned this to everyone else and recommended the team move locations for the evening. Everyone agreed.
Where to? (player map on roll20 is set to the map of the city.

Celegon points down the street to the west. "It took them a few hours to locate us last time, so if we don't stay in one place for too long we should be good." After a moment of thought, he adds, "Also, does anyone have any spells that would protect us from scrying? We may be able to blind them from being able to locate us."

Ironperenti |

It is midafternoon and already the shadow of the surrounding mountains lays over the western half of the city. All is quiet and still in this part of the city yet, you get the feeling you are being watched. Along with Celegon’s question about scrying everyone renews a search of their belongings fir something to hide them, but nothing is found. It will be shadow dark soon, and night sooner than you would like.

![]() |

With no one having any particular way to deal with scrying, Celegon and Glimwick both cast Detect Magic and being looking around for a magical sensor in their proximity and get ready to dispel it once it is found. Celegon calls out, "Until we can keep him from scrying on us, let's head back out of the city so we can surprise him." However, if they are able to find the scrying sensor, he intends to head on toward the upper parts of the city.

Ironperenti |

Under the cover of invisibility, everyone travels back out of the city. As you exit the city you travel to the pass that leads out of the valley. Do you serup camp in the (where the city is), in the pass, or do you go through the pass? The more detail the better.

![]() |

Celegon turns back to Glimwick, "Think you can teleport us back to the room we stayed with the wheel? It seems to be mostly uninhabited unless they are looking for us." Glimwick replies confidently, "I can do that without much trouble at all."
"Good. Let's rest out here just off the trail where it won't be as easy for them to find us without them having to search a bit. Then we can teleport back to where we were."
Celegon recommends that as the plan of action unless anyone else offers otherwise. He and Glimwick take turns focusing on Detect Magic to see if any magic sensors appear that would indicate scrying until they get a ways off the path.

Ironperenti |

I am going to move forward with a 24 hour time limit. In that instance I will make you take an appropriate action in combat or assume silence is consent with the rest of the group.
The group moves off the trail up next to the wall of the pass. They search a bit for an area where they are blocked from view by fallen rocks. When they are relatively secure in their surroundings they draw straws for first watch. It goes to Athos. He takes the first hour, Celegon the second, then Padraig takes the rest of the night (ring of sustenance, needs only 2 hours of sleep).
A couple hours into Padraig's watch, he hears something coming into the pass. Eight hill giants come stomping along the trail. Every other one with a torch. Padraig waits patiently and listens intently. Although the giants attempt to whisper, it floats across the pass like a low rumble.
"Kahina said they was over there. One says pointing in the direction in which the group was sleeping. "Let's sneak up on 'em an' squash 'em." He says making a squashing movement with his hands.
"I think we should all throw rocks over there and squish them first." said another.
"You're just scared of the dark, Gronk. We go look and smash if we find them." said a third, slightly larger brute.
They are one hundred fifty feet away over rough terrain. Padraig is 15 feet away from the party in a vantage point where he could see the path without being seen.
Movement is 15 feet of movement to cover 5 feet due to difficulty of terrain. No initiative until you are discovered.

Ironperenti |

They motion in the general direction of where the group is sleeping. I took Celegon’s post to mean you would rest outside the city. Then after rest you would teleport back so as to not waste time and additional spells crossing the city. If I can nterpreted that wrong, please let me know.

padraig throws a small stone athos to wake him, when he looks i point to the giants below and make a gesture to show my intent of circling around to flank the group. then another gesture to wake the others and into the darkness I move becoming one with the blackness. with the speed only a well trained monk could possess i move around without the sound even a mouse would make I quickly find myself behind them. Making the gesture I invoke the power of my Gi and grow to the size of one of the brutes and quickly take down the last in line with a sweep, before he can even utter a word of surprise my fist knocks the misshapened teeth down his throat, then swiftly stomp the remaining sense out of him with my heel. as the world grows dark and he looses concesness I ready myself for the giants inevitable attack.
Having been awoken from his light sleep the witcher quickly readys himself and looks for the nearest target, seeing one within range he lets losse with a pillar of fire that encompasses the first few giants burning them with a holy light and rightous flames. the chaos that follows both attacks set the dim giants up for complete failure.

Celegon grabs his bow and stands up, mentally marking where the giants are from the fiery burst.
Glimwick quickly hops up, wiping the sleep from his eyes, and follows the Witcher’s example and drops a fireball in the same spot he did. (Using remaining 3rd level spell slot that was unused yesterday.)

Sleeping in Armor: A character who sleeps in medium or heavy armor is automatically fatigued the next day. He takes a –2 penalty on Str and Dex and can’t charge or run. Sleeping in light armor does not cause fatigue.

Situation: Padraig has just thrown a pebble to wake Athos, given his hand signals and sprinted off into the darkness. It is going to take him five rounds to reach the location indicated on the map and then his attack. I assume the other actions do not go down until Padraig's attack as everyone waits to see what he does.
By the time Padraig makes his attack the giants have begun to move off the path (movement on the path is at full speed) and pick their way through the rough terrain headed toward the camp. Athos has made his way opposite of where Padraig was going.
I prefer you actually make your own rolls but I can do it for you if you like. The format, using square brackets [] vice curly brackets {} is {dice=Perception}1d20 + 3{/dice}
Padraig's attack starts the surprise round. Let me know what prep you did for your five rounds, Athos was traveling.

![]() |

Athos, is that the correct position for you, opposite side of where Padraig was going? What actions will everyone take during the five rounds it takes Padraig to get in position and attack?

Ironperenti |

Padraig steps out of the dark and drops the nearest giant to the ground. Almost simultaneously, Athos steps out of the dark and skewers a giant on the opposite side of the group [53 pts of dmg]. The witcher follows up with a flame strike that hits the lead two giants [39 pts of dmg, both fail]. Immediately following this, Glimwick drops a fireball affecting the front four giants [#2 makes his save].

Celegon quickly begins shouting encouragement and retelling stories of adventurers felling giants.

He then fires his bow into the crowd of giants, targeting the nearest one first, sending the arrows splitting into the next one if the first falls.

Aram during the prep rounds casted Angelic Aspect (he already used the greater version) and Righteous Vigor. For the surprise round he moved toward the fight. Since he now has a fly speed of 30' he will do a full move toward the fight.
None of the giants make their save and another goes down in flames (literally).
The giant stabbed by Athos is not intimidated but this is merely because he is dead.
next up Padraig

One of the giants moves south and ducks while rubbing his eyes, another just rubs his eyes to clear them. A third rushes Padraig and swings away

The two who are down attempt to struggle to their feet (Padraig gets attacks of opportunity). I show a hit due to your increased size.

Athos strikes the giant on the ground for 51. The giant howls in pain and nearly breaks into tears. Aram flies over the rocks and slashes the crouching giant for 18. This enables his righteous vigor (+1 to hit, +4 temp HP).
Suddenly Athos is struck by what feel like invisible biting blades (18+17+13+25+30) and then a final rending with the weapons as the attack subsides (16 = 120 total). His blood goes spraying everywhere and even the giants are afraid.
the blue token marks the location the attacks came from. Next up, Padraig and the giants.

Ironperenti |

The giant hit by Glimwick expires quietly. Padraig trips the giant to his left and knocks out a few teeth when he kicks it. The hill giant kneeling near Aram stands up and swings at him and misses. Both giants near Padraig attempt to stand (AOO on each from Padraig).
