"I'll be ready in a few minutes. Just let me get my gear." Rhavenna says heading back towards the longhouse.

As Rhavenna departed is around the time Tidus returned clad in his former gladiator gear, though not wearing the helm, and Faldirk gives the man a hearty clap. Tidus's armor shielded his right shoulder with several plates that overlapped like metal scales down the length of his arm ending in a metal plate backing his hand. Though the plates were numerous and it appeared very flexible as he moved his arms normally. His chest was covered by a broken in studded leather suit of armor that was engraved with the symbols of a mighty stag on the chest, its face looking forward towards whoever would attack Faldirk, Its horns were intricately carved and appeared large and sharpened for battle. His leggings were a reinforced armored kilt, which left his legs open for quicker movements.

He had a pair of swords strapped to his sides on a rough looking leather belt, a single shortsword and a longbow made of a dark wood across his back. "All too familiar..." He balls his right hand into a fist, curling the arm as the plates expand to allow him to flex while maintaining their protective value. He looks to the Elder when he notices the old man looking at him. "I thought my weapons would have been destroyed... How?"

The Elder nods to Rhavenna and then gives an even broader smile when he sees Tidus. "The how or why doesn't matter. That armor is a sight for my old eye though and I hope ya don't hold back anymore eh?" Tidus nods hesitantly at the Elder's words before the Elder slaps his padded hands together. "Good! Once she returns we will set off."

The Elder nods as Wallace speaks. "You are always prepared eh? Well this'll be interesting at least. Those harpy b+$@%es should stay off us for now..."

Once everyone was ready to depart The Elder didn't even say goodbye to his people at first. Not before a young maiden came before him, despite the looks from her elders as she embraced their former Elder, obviously upset with his departure. Before long several more joined her, as well as children who gave their heartfelt goodbyes, the eldest though remained stoic and separate from their former Elder.

Long after your departure the sounds of a lonesome horn called out mournfully across the mountains. It sounded several times in a rhythm that caused the notes to play off one another. The sound was enough to make the Elder pause momentarily before muttering. "Young Fools..."

For those without endure elements roll three fortitude saves.

The Elder, despite the storm that swept in around you from all sides, led the way. He had made sure each of you were tied off to one another and his end being knotted around himself. With the help and guidance of Livain they avoided the worst of the hazards along the way to the shrine.

From what you could all tell you were moving upwards along the mountai still, the storms strength rose considerably once you left the cover of the trees and made flying nearly impossible save for the strongest of fliers...

It felt like an eternity out in the open. The wind blew sno into every loose opening in one's clothing and armor, sapped the heat from the tightest cloaks. It was as if the wind was some life sapping spectre, the snow rushed by in massive sheets of white that made seeing nearly impossible. Had it not been for the Elder's forward motion and Livains guidance the group would have easily and irrevocably lost in the fury of the storm.

After what felt like an age the wind and snow die down some, as you raise your heads you see what you had stumbled upon...

A large clearing, shielded by several trees that tenaciously resisted the howling winds and appeared to be as old as the trees that surrounded Stonehedge. They were tall mountain ash, whose branches were thick with snow and yet still helped to deflect the worst of the storm. They were up against what could only be the side of the mountain itself, forming a small clearing with a path that led down and around the mountainside itself...

In the heart of the clearing appeared to be a long abandoned camp, with a circle of rocks piled high near snow covered logs and split firewood...

it looks like excellent armor Tidus, though I hope it defends against this blizzard. I have no more magic to blunt the blizzards bite. The priest comments as he looks the finely made armor over.

"In the presence of my allies martial prowess I find sharpening my Wit a better plan then chasing their wake."

"Heh, is this it? Wallace asks as he looks to the defending grove of trees and looking for something definable to assure the holy natural of the place.

Female Centaur Ranger (Skirmisher/Divine tracker) 4

As they get ready to leave, Rhavenna returns fully geared and equipped, her eyes widening at the sight of Tidus in his full gladiator gear.

Damn!

As the group trudge through the snow and wind, she is grateful for Wallace's spell allowing her to ignore the worst of the cold. As they reach the protected space, a feeling of powerful natural forces washes over her, leaving no doubt in her mind of a supernatural presence.

Slowly she moves forward.

"Aye Wallace, it protects me adequately from the weather." He nodded to Wallace's prior to their departure.

Tidus appeared untouched by the storms biting wind. He took the rear position in the line and when you all stumbled into the grove he looked around suspiciously. His overlarge helm shielding obscured his vision which made it more difficult for him to see the entire grove clearly. He fell in behind Rhavenna, slowly following her into the grove and untying his rope lead.

At Wallaces comment the Elder nodded, pulling back the fur hood of his cloak as he spoke. "Aye, tis the place. A cave lies down the path though I know nought whats inside. Old Deadeye is a simple sort. I will work on getting us a fire."

Moving into the clearing felt like a weight was lifted, for amid the old mountain ashes lay a much calmer area. The wind passed through but not with the intensity of the storm, it was still cold and snow swirled and snow devils danced ahead and around the group. Some reaching seven feet tall but most being barely two feet tall and inconsistent. Often spinning apart before gaining much strength.

This place was far from peaceful but it was better then trying to withstand the fury of the storm which raged now overhead. The winding path that led downward and appeared to narrow into a narrow ledge appear far from inviting. The craggy path was strewn with debris and overgrown with bushes that bore thick roots that ran wild across it which would make reaching the supposed cave difficult for Rhavenna.

The Elder untied the rope about his waist before he moved to the pile of wood and kicked it over, breaking apart the snow and ice that had built up upon it before tossing the logs into the circle of rocks before going about breaking off kindling to coax a small flame. "Leave the rope here or use it, but don't lose it." He grunted as he tore bits and pieces off a log with his gauntleted hands, a simple task that he seemed quite apt at performing.

Tidus moves up alongside Rhavenna before lifting the massive visor on his helm to be able to see more clearly. His head looked to be in the throat of a metal monster then a helmet as he looked around at the clear grove, slicing a mischievous snow devil with his hand which caused it to quickly disperse as it passed him by.

"At least we can take shelter in the cave eh?" Seeing the rough path he grimaced. "Eventually."

Female Centaur Ranger (Skirmisher/Divine tracker) 4

She couldn't fully explain why but Tidus' presence beside her was somewhat....comforting. Focusing as she she moves, watching closely as she places her hooves, the treacherous ground and tangle of gnarled roots presenting a substantial risk of injury for her, her natural agility forcibly put to the test.

"If I can make it down there without killing myself." Rhavenna mutters, carefully picking her way down the overgrown craggy passage.

Male Male Human Evangelist cleric 4 HP 40/44 AC:17/13/14 F+7/R+4/W+9 Init+3 Perception+13

Wallace glances around the clearing waiting for something ominous to occur, the human sighing as he sets about gathering the rope from their journey here. The human brushing off the snowdrift Tim had begun to resemble in the journey here.
"I suppose I am just not a follower of Deadeye then, though it does make me wonder what on earth that soothsayer did or said that might anger Deadeye to this degree. Well if that creature was truly his proxy that is."
The human sits down and sets about helping Faldirk get the fire going, removing his outer gloves to gain dexterity for the task.
"Do tell me if you find anything interesting in there." Wallace asks as he turns his head to Rhavenna and Tidus before returning to the fire.

Rhavenna takes the lead picking her way through the rough path, her equine legs snagging on bushes that entangled themselves in her hair as she made her way around the bend. The bend lined a narrow path that sat above a yawning void, a sheer cliffside that descended into the blizzards furious winds. As she rounded the bend the protection of the grove was no longer afforded to her and the going got much, much tougher...

During a particularly fierce gust of winds she stumbles, losing her footing for a moment. As her hoof slammed down as she stumbled she suddenly feels several loose rocks give way under her weight. She was sliding on the iced up edge towards the sheer cliff's edge, just before she plunged over she somehow caught herself. Tidus, who had been standing behind looked powerless to stop her fall but appeared like he was moving to do so.

Seeing she had regained her balance he let go of the breath he had held in his chest. "I'll go first for now. If there is any more loose stones I will knock them aside."

Each step was slower then before as Tidus moved ahead, he used his blades to tap the stones and even found some loose stones as you moved forward...

Around the Bend Rhavenna, Tidus & ??? (Mai & Livain possibly unless you choose to stay at camp):

Finally reaching the cave you notice that the cave entrance is scarred and defaced by what could have only been done with claws. So many overlapping strikes make it difficult to tell what clawed the stone cave face. Bones litter the entrance as well making it looked cluttered, filthy and unwelcoming.

Male Male Human Evangelist cleric 4 HP 40/44 AC:17/13/14 F+7/R+4/W+9 Init+3 Perception+13

Wallace watches his companion with a cautious eye and sighs with relief as she catches herself before passing around the bend.
"So, I take that what we seek is over there? Or do you think we shall have more success gaining the Huntsmans attentions around a fire?"

*sigh* Don't suppose knowledge history or perform oratory would give me something relating to the huntsman? I need to remember to drop a point in the other Knowledge skills next time I level. My learny touch only works on things I can touch. So once I can find Deadeyes shrine I'll touch it to learn something.

K-Religion basic would give you some insight at least the most commonly known things about Erastil. I am unsure if Mai or Livain have any skill in those Knowledge checks without checking their sheets.

"Aye its here, just spread out. There is another road that leads past this place, the mountains are littered with paths that eventually pass by here. Though I have never ventured into that cave, the oracle had once..." He splits more kindling apart as you both are talking. "Beings are strange, never no what will catch their favor. Especially old Deadeye, so ancient its hard to fathom what one like that thinks."

"Do you think this is where the bear lived" Rhavenna asks, her hands unconsciously reaching behind her back for her swords.

Basic K: check: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16

Wallace rapidly shifts his anytool into a wood cutting tool and a dark thought seems to pass his face.
" That Oracle, you are talking about the one who started all this and died right? Would that not mean entering the cave other there is a terrible idea?"
Wallace takes another log and begins rendering it into useable wood as he continues to speak.
"Most deitys have common joining factors for when they respond though. I'd expect that a roaring fire would be a good place to start with Old deadeye."

Around the bend:

The wind was whipping past those standing outside the cave and Tidus looked into the dark entrance, listening to Rhavenna speak before responding. "Perhaps..."

1d20 ⇒ 7

He frowns as he brushes the built up snow aside. "... hard to tell, no tracks are visible and the claw marks are so overlapped its unlikely I could discern a single creatures markings from them."

The Elder regards "I don't know, I've never been inside the cave. However it could be a bad idea and it could not. The Oracle wasn't able to get a word out as I understood it and curse me for being out hunting when this madness ensued. Even Njul was powerless to stop those who sent her away, which the same got themselves killed fighting the bear alongside those not involved. Those few were much wiser and it was a pity to lose them."

With the kindling stacked, the Elder draws out a flint and striker and begins scattering sparks over the starter wood...

Survival: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (14) + 17 = 31

... after a few well placed strikes the flame started to come to life. "One roaring fire soon to be coming up." And not a moment too soon as the daylight was already beginning to fade, darkening the storm and making the grove appear far more isolated as the snow swirled outside and above the circle of trees.

Female Centaur Ranger (Skirmisher/Divine tracker) 4

Around the bend:
"So....I guess we go in now?" she says hesitantly. "At least it looks like it's been a bit since something came this way."

Rhavenna:

Rhavenna could tell that the stone was deeply scarred but by what it was hard to determine. The skulls at the entrance appeared to be humanoid in shape and all appeared to be from the same race which was either Human or Half-Elf.

Beyond the entrance, which is just tall enough for you to walk through with bending slightly downward. Appears to lead into a much larger cave area within and what appeared to be tunnels or alcoves jutting off from the larger area in several directions that lined the cave. You note that more bones appear strewn about inside the cave along with several medium sized bundles of some unknown material but there was no sign of any creatures.

Around the Bend:

He nods to Rhavenna before drawing the twin blades on his belt. He kept his voice low as he looked into the cave alongside her. "I can lead or follow you in, I'm not so keen in the dark." He follows whatever direction Rhavenna gives him obediently and with both his blades at the ready to protect himself.

Around the Bend:
Drawing her own swords from behind her back, Rhavenna moves forward, taking the lead headed into the larger cave. "I'll go first then. I can see fine in the dark up to about 60 ft out." the ranger says keeping her own voice low as well. "But keep close."

'Keep close? Why the hell would you say that? Like you need to tell a gladiator to be careful...stupid.' she finds herself thinking before she refocuses.

Around the Bend:

Tidus nods and his helmet slides shut with a slap of metal before his calm voice reaches your ears. "Right."He takes up a position behind you and follows you in as you duck your way inside the cave.

The cave was large enough for you to stand at your full height but not for anything too long or tall weapon wise due to the stalactites and stalagmites that dotted the floor in spots and the closed in walls. Ahead of you see a bundle of what appear to be twigs and feathers in one of the alcoves that dot the cave walls. Though behind the bundle ahead of you is a symbol, clawed into the walls...

There are a couple more of these fairly large bundles in between the nearby stalagmites. You hear Tidus shift behind you, his feet dragging lightly on the stone and the sound of his blades shifting. A cursory glance reveals he is now back to rear with you. Watching the rear and protecting you as best he can in the dark.

A loud sound, like rushing water fills your ears making it hard to hear movement easily as you near the backside of the cave. The air is much warmer and moist as well adding an almost sticky humidity to mix with the smell of mold or rot. It was hard to tell with the bones scattered around your hooves. So many that it was impossible not to crunch them underhoof or boot as Tidus also had trouble avoiding them...

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22

1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (18) + 7 = 25
1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

It isn't until you nearly reach the center of the cave that Tidus hisses loudly in warning. Your ears barely catch the sound of the loud shifting, like birds wings. Its then the bundle right in front of you uncurls to reveal its humanoid form.

You recognize these creatures instantly, their feminine form and large taloned feet are the same as those that were found dead outside the ruins. They are rising to their feet and their elongated fingers were a dead give away. Harpies and there was three of them and two of you. The harpies hiss at the presence of intruders and the one directly ahead rises to its feet in an instant while the other two are still prone...

Wallace aids Faldirk best as he can before nodding in appreciation at the beginnings of the fire.
"Well I suppose we wait until our allies return. Though on that topic I had hoped to pick your brain on the topic of Ioboria Elder Grenalf. Njul spoke in concern of the heritage Rhavenna carried. Now as I have spoken with her and my allies repeatedly about Iobaria and gotten no response to say she is hiding something. The idea that she would conceal something dangerous specifically to her allies like that from us is abberant. All the time I've knwon her she'd been a forthright and honest person. So would you be so kind as to inform me a bit to the state of Ioboria and what sort of abyssal dung shaft myself and my allies are about to leap into? I know for certain that we don't know enough to survive right now. Not that we won't try."

Now seems an excellent time to shake Faldirk down for information on the Centaurs and the political state of Iobaria. Nothing important going on in that spoiler over there at all.
Produces popcorn. Yep. Nothing at all.

"Ya blades are far tougher then ya give yourself credit. As for Iobaria..." The fire was hungrily licking up the tinder now and the Elder was adding logs to it. "It's a cursed land, bloody and disease creeps in every corner... The creatures there are more aggressive than anywhere else in the world. A mercenary company should survive far longer than those who travel in small groups if poorly armed."

As the fire begins to admit light above the ring of stones the Elders face appeared almost etched out of stone as he thought long and hard about what he should say. "It has been a long time since I have been home, though my home is long since turned to ruin. Iobaria is strife between the struggles of those who wish to rule, be left in peace and destroy all those that are of Ulfen decent. The would-be lords play at games of war while the people suffer and when they finally anger the centaurs enough the hooved ones come down and sweep aside villages in mad vengence."

"What do you know of the Dvezda eh? And who hired ya company?"

The harpies rise to their feet fully as the one in front of Rhavenna begins cackling in a cawing manner. Openly mocking her as it draws a longsword free from its belt. "Piss on Deadeye. The Wind King rules dis place horseflesh and we are hungry!" Its caw is joined by its companions who have drawn swords as well. It finishes by casting some sort of spell that surrounds it in pale blue light that shifts back and forth around its form.

A few moments later its Cawing is answered by shrill cries from deeper in the cave. Tidus gives a grunt in annoyance as he prepares for battle!

The sound of running water and the howling wind drown out the noise within the cave, leaving the pair to fight the three harpies and the unknown number that lay further in on their own...

Wallace nods and cracks his neck while brushing swiftly melting snow from his hood. "I appreciate that compliment, we do try our best regardless of how the world has sought to grind us down lately. While your knowledge might be slightly out of date it is much better than the utter lack of it we have right now. As to the Dvezda I know nothing. I don't doubt we are under contract from one of the lords but Hawk has been surprisingly tight lipped about who our patron actually is. However they paid a foreign mercenary company up front."
The human says as he glowers into the fire
"I can say that summoning help in that manner makes me highly concerned for our lives. I know a trap when I see one and this entire situation stinks of it. We encountered a contingent of Hobgoblins recently, much as I gilded the story for the sake of the party I find the event concerning. Hobgoblins fought and died to the last man without breaking ranks, they were researching something vile in that place. Never mind that they had a Dragon broken to heel with them. Dresskel was mighty, but just like the bear we fought much of the groundwork for its failure had already been laid."
With that the human hums in thought.
"If you've ever heard of a place called Lenusya it would be good to know where it is. We've unfinished business with old history in that place."

Does Wallace know who we are supposed to be working for? I know we had some flavor posts at the start that give a good indicator to precisely who but far as I(the player) know that knowledge has not been shared with the party.

EDIT Amusing timing.

Wallace notices that Faldirk was now rolling an odd looking stone between his fingers. The Elder smirks as the light continues to grow in the small clearing, the howling wind disrupted b the mighty Mountain ash that gave the clearing an ominous appearance. Finally the Elder spoke, his tones low and eerie. "Do you all like campfire stories? Well I have a great one to share."

Its then that Wallaces eye rise behind the Elders back, the Elder was spreading his hands wide. Several pairs of red spots shined in the dark and they appeared to be moving ever so slowly. The Elder's blade seemed to leap into his hand as he drew it in one swift motion. "Fear the singing in the mountains, for not all songs come from maidens fair. Nor bawdy lads with great flair. Nay, sometimes they come from creatures. With wings and claws whose breath is wretched. Whos slink so as to not be seen in the dark and who are all AROUND US!" He spins to roar at the eyes behind him in the trees. "Come you winged whores! You'll find we are not see easy to hunt!"

I can't update the map as I am at work But Tidus is above (Behind) the wounded one and the other two are flanking your rear at the moment.

Tidus's blade blurred and slashed the Harpy across the back of her neck, toppling her head to the floor before its body crumpled. He spun his free blade expertly and advanced on one of the ones flanking Rhavenna. Tmbling past as he did so...

The flanked harpy tries to lash out at Tidus with its blade but swings so poorly that the blade slips from its clawed hands due to the moisture in the air.

The one still flankiung Rhavenna suffers a similar failure, its blad clattering by the corpse of its fallen companion as it haphazardly lashed out at her with its clawed talons. However both of them were sliding on the stone floor and failed to do little more than weakly claw at you both.

The sound of the caws and scrambling of claws is becoming more clear...

The red eyes bob and weave in the trees and a few try to reach out with their sultry and captivating voices. Something that neither armor or your current magic can protect against. However as they start the amassed ones near the Elders give a shriek of fury as he hurls the stone in his hand at them!

Well i won't disappoint you!" He grips his larg blade in two hands and advanced towards them...

Wallaces voice enrages the others that were singing as the abruptly stop and Livain's arrow struck one of the singing harpies which shrieked in pain...

Working on the map, Harpies are standing by the trees minus the ones on the Elders side of the fire. The elders foes are prone in a pile of snow. The ones on your side are forty feet away hanging on the edges of the grove of trees, the Elders are about 50-60ft away.

Each of you have 1 opponent each and the elder is dealing with four of them atm.

She whispers a word as soft as a breath and releases an arrow quickly soon to be followed by another; both of which lodge deep into the harpy she'd already damaged.

Edit: guess the staggered part is unecessary...

Wallace moves Tim closer to the fire and begins a new song as the harpies gathered to fight him and his allies.
"Weep now for you will not be given the chance when out weapons reach you. The path you have opened with this action leads only to death."

Swapping to Inspire courage. hopefully Tim is next to me. With the distance/storm penalty to hearing wallace being dropped (class ability that makes him easier to hear) there might be a chance Rhavenna and Tidus can hear me as well.

Those who are within 30ft of me get a +2hit/Dam. Those outside of that get a +1. (Banner/Inspire courage)
