Kast, Simon head down in the cauldron. Walls of stone surround them as it goes lower and lower, sinking through into a large squarish chamber.

squarish chamber:
The shaft drops down into a large, mostly square chamber. A doorway opens in one wall, while two other walls have been broken through from the outside. Cramped, narrow tunnels beckon from beyond the breached walls. it is just how Edgrin and the children described it, save for two kobold guards that wait below, riding large, white, toad-like creatures.

Two spears fly quickly through the air while the two are still 10 feet up in the air.

As the spear punctures him, Simon yells loudly, the celestial words embodying the voice of the heavens.

Stepping to the edge of the cauldron, Simon speaks words of magic and extends his hands towards the new threat. A torrent of flame washes forth, burning the sneaky perpetrators and their white toad stallions.

Kast takes an early spear hit to the shoulder, it's pointy end finding a way through his armor. Grunting, Kast repositions his shield to avoid further strikes as he 5' steps closer to bring the Iron Quill to bear as well as defend Simon.

Kast strikes at the most burnt looking kobold, seeking both to damage and push back.

Kast looks at Simon and tries to translate for the rest of the party.

Kast and Simon face off against the Kobold guards. Simon burning hands at the guard on his side of the cauldron, while Kast uses the Quill to push the other off the back of his mount.

The frightened toad rushes the descending cauldron, stopping at the last second. One of the pustules on it's head bursts, flinging slime at Kast.

Round 2, Init 14, elevator is level with lower room's floor.

The pushed Kobold dusts himself up and draws a spear, aiming again at the armored foe (Kast), while the other tries again for the burbling one. The second kobold's "toad" rears up from the fire damage, trying to throw his rider.

Simon takes another spear to the chest, blood now running freely down his torso. With a burning fury, he opens his jaws wide, the glow of fire from his belly clear for a moment before a torrent of flame spews forth from his gullet.

Then he leaps from the cauldron, the air shimmering about his slight form as an aura of heat springs forth burning his assailants.

(if only the kobold or toad remains, then Simon will use his touch of flame to slap them with a fiery hand, since there is no save vs. the touch of flame it does Not set them on fire though it's a fire ability)

the kobolds and toads that are burning take 1 point of fire damage at the start of their turns for 1d4 rounds, unless they take action to put out the fire.

Othoe watches as smoke writhes from the pit below. Once the cauldron is emptied (might move my initiative lower), he helps to raise it. He holds the children back, and pushes the other party members forward.

"I'll stay here with the children in case something comes at us from the rear - go help Kast and Simon!"

Kast, beginning to become a better, more perfect warrior, swings at the kobold1 when it gives him the opening by hurling the spear from such short range.

Oops...Power Attack is now -2/+4. Correcting.

On his turn, Kast steps out (moved on map), and strikes at the kobold1 again (unless it's down, then hitting the toad).

Chrystosm, not expecting to be pushed by Othoe, falls head-first into the cauldron and plummets down to the lower level, just managing to right himself in time to scramble out when he hits the floor.

For those above in round two, you hear/smell the following:
The sounds and smoke of some altercation from below.

Simon, Kast:
Simon breathes fire on the kobold and his mount blocking his way, roasting the poor kobold where he sits. The toad makes an odd "slllrrrrk" sort of noise and runs off, the kobold body bouncing along with him.

Kast takes an opportunistic swing at the kobold near him, but misses. He tries again, hitting this time and dropping the kobold as well. His mount flees as well.

With Kast and Simon free of the cauldron, the others are able to pull it back up to come down.

The weight of the cauldron on the lines suddenly goes slack. Kibbo cautiously offers, "can lift it now, Oh Great Ones."

and thus ends initiative.

It takes two trips and at least several minutes, but the rest of the group is able to safely join Simon and Kast below.


Dorial kicks the kobold's corpse as she steps out of the cauldron, "This little guy did all that to you two?"

Kast pulls out the small spear from his side, incredulously looking at Simon, and barely hearing Dorial's question.

"Simon. Simon! What was that?! The fire! Where did that come from?!" Kast looks for the evil cauldron of all evils amongst Simon's possessions, thinking to see it glowing red with demonic fire.

Kast barely lowers the Quill as he looks at Simon. Still keeping his watch on Simon, Kast looks to answer Dorial's question.

"No, there were more...they fled...they fled *HIM*," Kast says, indicating the FireMouth.


Dorial looks over Simon from a distance.

"Why would they flee Simon?"

Simon clutches his pack fiercely, resisting any attempts to lay hands on Caulin, his voice cracking, either from the emotion or the fire that just passed through his throat. "We showed those nasty kobolds our burning fury, as they deserved for stealing children!" A look of anger, strangely contrasted with a haunted, timid expression plays across Simon's face. "I, um, I've always had the fire in me, it was always in my dreams even as a young boy, but these last months it's grown, expanded, intensified, and I..." Simon pauses, his eyes glazing for a moment, "and We can control it now!" The timid look vanishes from his face, replaced by a leering grin. "Those kobolds will pay for what they've done, let us not waste time, the alarm will be raised and there's a child to save!"


Knowing all too well of the dreams, Dorial nods. "Let's be quick then. Chances are that they'll all be on guard now."

As the party departs, Simon prays for divine healing for himself, then offers the same to Kast, "Are your wounds deep, do you need healing my friend?"

Kast gives Simon another concerned look, worried that old Simon had returned. Still that he had single-handedly driven off the chaotically-minded, thuggy, and hooliganish band of roving kobolds was nothing not to be appreciated.

Maybe he finds his perfection in letting his inner fires burn away his impurities.

Kast limps after Simon, trying to take the lead down the passage (renewing Light, as necessary).

Of course, how much fuel will he have to feed his fire until it begins to gnaw on his foundations...if it hasn't already?

Once down, Chrystosm struggles out of the cauldron, eyeing the charred remains of the kobolds nervously.

He grins weakly at Simon, trotting along behind the others as they advance.

Map

Slick trails mark the passing of the "toad-like" creatures. The path heads out the door to the north. Edgrin is able to use it to draw a rough map of the area up ahead, having collected information through his own personal experience or by using his superb "people" skills.

He points out that he thinks the last remaining child that he knows about it is probably being held near the hatchery (area 26), where they were before escaping.

Simon smiles weakly back at his companions and gently pushes the sharp end of the iron quill away from his chest, "Um, Kast, maybe keep that thing pointed towards the kobolds." strange, Dorial turns into another creature and Kast doesn't bat an eye, but We burp a little fire and it's like 'ohhh, Simon's CRaZy', I wonder what it is he sees in Us?

LOL@Simon. Of course, in Kast's defense, the Cauldron did try to EAT Kast. Dorial has yet to try to eat him. Yet.

Kast will poke his head and light into 21 to make sure there are no more albino frogs & kobolds therein.

As a side note, I would prefer if all you all would help me keeping the action moving and maintaining an active interest in the environment. Kast posted yesterday about exploring the room right next to us...and, after a full day, no one else has any interest or care about the room at all?! It's been 24 hours...and nothing. As Kast moves forward, Simon tugs at his sleeve, "Wait, Edgrin says he was this direction." Simon points down the tunnnel to the north, "That seems the quickest route."

Edgrin said the last child was at 26, so 24 to 25 to 26 and we expect to pass through the 'hatchery', probably 25 where the little tunnels branch off?

Heading north, the way gets very tight, very quickly, forcing the companions to go single file.

Nimeon and Othoe only:
ridges open up approximately 8 feet above the tunnel floor. Small creatures move along the thin walkways, waiting until the main mass of the group has passed before attacking.

Seeing his friends attacked, the rage rises again in Simon and his familiar burbling speech erupts, but like the fire it bursts with a fury unknown before.

"Death to you, child thieves!"
A terrible eruption of noise smashes the dark spaces from where the chains lashed.

Simon's heat aura goes off, but he doesn't go in the surprise round, so I don't think he can be angry yet. We'll use it next round, though.

Simon's roars at the attackers, the room shaking with the sound and fury or retribution. The first two kobolds shake it off, but the next two find themselves completely stunned by the attack.
