The bandits retaliate for minimum damage but can't seem to do much. The one Liath flees after nearly getting disemboweled in one shot. Several are now incapacitated but the bandits real plan unfolds in the back. The 6 men Rael saw pounce on the unsuspecting guards in the back, nearly killing one of them with a brutal backstab.

What was I thinking making the combat this big?

Also, Stalkid. The bandit is on a ledge 10ft high. I will let you get to him for a flank if you roll a climb DC 10 and I'll wave the AoO this time as he is engaged with your Roc.[/ooc]

As the coward shirks at the first whiff of steel and flees, she simply shrugs. She would much prefer to run him down and teach him the price of defying Bahamut's will, but there are too many other targets.

She is not deaf to the growing cries of action at the rear, but the enemy is everywhere. The best way to help them is to kill everyone at the front and work the way back.

The large bird seems to hold it's own, and the ranger plies his bow with skill, but the dinosaur may soon be overwhelmed against heavy odds...unless he gets help.

Jorn steps over to get a better shot at one of the bandits on the ledge, his sling still spinning through the air. However, the druid's lack of training with the weapon shows when he lets go, the bullet missing wildly. He curses under his breath while pulling another bullet from his belt pouch and reloading his weapon.

In the meantime, oblivious to Liath's assistance, Tyr continues his attack. He bites at the bandit once more, his sharp teeth glinting like daggers.

I think there was supposed to be a concentration check for Tiasar but I am allowing some leeway for this fight until we get to a more manageable one. Good to see everyone doing so well...sorry Juskar.

Though Jorn is falling short this combat, his ferocious pet is more than making up for it. And many bandits are out of the fight thinks to Tiasar and Barbara. And it seems they are infecting the guards as they fair far better. Even one of the guards near the back, though surprised, manages to thwack a rogue across the face and drop him to the gravel road. The two nearby guards seem oblivious to what is going on right behind them and continue to load and fire bolts.

"Is NOBODY going to help those men?" she thinks, seeing the others engage the closest enemies. "What if someone dies? What happens to their families... to their kids?".

The thought strikes too close to home for Barbie to ignore it. Her little frightened heart fluttering wildly, she finds herself sprinting down the road towards the rear of the convoy.

Double movement - 40 feet from K21 to K29.

Stalkid stares at the guards failing just as miserably as himself to get up the walls. Reassured that it isn't just him doing so poorly he picks himself up and tries again.

Climb(DC 10): 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1

He seems to still be unable to find a handhold, and scrabbles helplessly along the wall. He breaths a sigh of defeat, useless.

Tael on the other hand is fighting the bandit valiantly, dodging arrow and blade both. She unleases another furious assault against the bandit.

Talon 1: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
1d4 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Talon 2: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Bite: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Damage(Bite): 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5

She slashes across his face, and as the bandit reels back in pain she clamps savagely onto his arm.

Combat Over

F@ck this," one of the rogues in the back says before reaching into the last wagon, grabbing a chest and taking off while his associates fight a losing battle. He gets to the end of the road and disappears over the horizon of the hill. And like lemmings, those that can, follow. All the bandits do their best to disengage, fleeing in multiple directions. 4 of them remain knocked out however, including the one that appeared to be the leader.

Without the threat of enemies and with a leg up, some of the guards climb the walls to make sure the cost is clear. The ones near the bandits knocked out by Barb's spell are tied up quickly to prevent escape. Others move the logs out of the way and others still just sit down and try and tend to wounds.

"Ba, need a better crossbow," Thorum comments. "Now stand still so I can shoot ye," he says to the last remaining conscious bandit, trapped in a copious of vines.

"I give up ya crazy bastard, now stop point'n it at me," the target says, waving his hands in a defensive manor.

Jorn sighs as he stuffs the sling back into his belt, before whistling for Tyr. The tyrannosaur pup plods over to the dwarf, nuzzling his oversize head into his master's side. "Yeah, ya did good, boy," he says to the reptile, patting it on the back.

The druid then starts checking with the other caravan members, trying to get an idea of how many people were injured, and if anything was stolen.

Thank the gods. He leans heavily against the wagon, wincing against the pain from the bolt in his shoulder. Blasted crossbows.

Liath stares at the fleeing forms of the bandits and sighs heavily. Nuts. She was just getting ready to rally a counter-charge against the rear, too. Well, one could only pray that there was more evil in the world deserving of her righteous fury.

She walks among the guards, checking on how they are, and asking after any wounded. If any require it, she'll rush to the aid of any dying and Stabilize them.

She passes Jusker leaning heavily against a wagon, wincing at the pain in his shoulder.

"Hold still," she says, crushing him tightly against her breatplate while she pulls the bolt from him, seemingly unfazed by his cries of pain.
Then her hand glows brightly and she places it against the wound. "Freundlich," she says as the healing power flows into him, repairing the torn flesh.

Dudes, I can't tell if you're hurt if your character sheet doesn't reflect it.

The Exchange

Tiasar relaxes as the fight winds down to a halt...then his adrenaline stops and the pain comes. "Oh great Nethys it hurts..."

Tael jumps down from the ledge, landing next to Stalkid and chirping softly. Stalkid gives the wall a solid kick before fishing out a scrap of dried meat and tossing it at the large bird. She catches it with a satisfied snap of her beak before turning her head and staring at Stalkid's arm.

"Oh. Yeah..." Stalkid mutters, gingerly touching the streak of blood and wincing slightly. He fishes out a small, bright green leaf from his bag and holds it tight against his arm, muttering "Saol Bri". When he releases his grip the leaf is a dull brown/grey color and it disintegrates as the air touches it.

He looks up to Tael, "You're good." He pats her on the neck, and walks towards the carts.

"Are they gone?"He asks, no one in particular.

When the rush of adrenaline subsides, Barbie finds herself shaking like a leaf. Around her, people seem all too busy to notice: she's unharmed after all, isn't she, and there are others to take care of! So she climbs up on the closest wagon and hides inside, holding her knees to her chest, rocking back and forth, sobbing in silence.

Liath patrols around the caravan, listening for any wounded calling for aid. As she passes one wagon, she hears the unmistakable sound of someone sobbing. Pausing, she leans her weapon against the wagon, and climbs inside, sitting next to the young arcanist. She puts a protective arm around her, and, wordlessly reaches into the small of her back and brings out her hip flask of rum. After taking a fortifying sip she holds it out for the girl.

Barbie relaxes a bit under the warpriestess' strong arm, wipes the tears from her cheeks and sips tentatively from the flask, turning a little smile and a grateful look at Liath.

Then her eyes suddenly widen and she starts to cough vigorously as the spirit sets her unaccustomed throat on fire.

"Tha - *cough* - thank you Milady, *cough cough* , that's enough I think *COUGH* , Gods that's strong!"

He straightens as the healing magic washes over him. "Thanks, love." He slings his bow back across his back and starts walking around the caravan. "Did we lose anyone?"

After a few minutes, the road is clear and five men are bound and gagged before the general group. Thorum stands before them, arms crossed and thoughtful look on his face. Well, thoughtful for a dwarf, angry to anyone else. He leans over to Jorn "What do ye think we should do with em? If this is one o the groups harassin Bastion they'll likely hang for their crimes. Might as well kill em here and now."

Jorn runs a hand through his beard. "I don't doubt it," he replies. "That said, we was pretty close t' th' city proper, weren't we? Wouldn't hurt us much t' just take 'em there. The folk o' Bastion could take care of 'em." The druid seems reluctant to kill the men, even though they had attempted to kill everyone in the caravan. With minimal injury and loss on their part, however, Jorn seems to have chosen to be a little lenient.

The Exchange

Tiasar gingerly reaches into his spell component pouch, then pulls out a minuscule vial with a single red drop of liquid in it. He pours it on his wound with a gasp, then says "Malsvir irisvir." Tiasar's flesh seems to come alive as it knits itself shut.

Infernal healing.

Anyone else want to weigh in or is dragging them back okay?

The Exchange

Tiasar is a little shellshocked to chip in.

Yea, dragging them back is fine with me.

Ditto. Barbie could not stand any more violence right now.

"Ba. Maybe someone at Bastion can get some info out of them," he says turning away from the bandits. "Tie em up and let em walk the rest o the way. No," he says with a grin. "I think I'll give me houses some rest. Tie em to the front wagon." He yells the order and several men eagerly jump to work. They are yoked to the front wagon like a horse team and Thorum whips them into action. "Tried ta stop us eh. Now yer gonna get us the rest o the way there." And indeed they do with Thorum's ever cracking whip.

The rest of the day you are on the road and nothing else molests you. For the past day the forest has been growing thicker and thicker until you can't see very far through the boughs. When you finally break free of the forest you are nearly in the city itself. The walls loom before you, gloomy in their disrepair. You can't even see the castle. Once the wards within the mountain range beyond failed, trade stopped completely and Bastion fell quickly. It was a few years ago but now it seems a shadow of its former self. The walls are overgrown with vegetation, the trees encroach too close to the wall, and some of the crenellation has broken loose.

More to come later.
