I know I'm out of the fight, but I'd almost say grease the ground under the cultist. You can only crawl 5ft a round, and if they can't make the reflex save they can't stand in the grease. But I don't know if it would be better or worse in the long run compared to making the ogre hit the dirt again.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Hideous laughter lasts 1 round per level, so he can't act until round 9, although I take your point. Anyway I'm going to hold off until Percival has posted his actions for the previous rounds, since that may change the situation :)

Percival Lawson |

Round 6
Percival moves up behind Lucanor, taps him on the shoulder and pours a vial of healing down his throat.
CLW, 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
[ooc]Round 7 and 8
Percival gets into position and lobs two bombs at the standing ogre zombie.
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13 1d6 + 5 ⇒ (5) + 5 = 10
Still using Precise Bombs

Silas Hawkwinter |

I'm really hoping those hit :) I think they would be both aided by inspire which doesnt look like it was included. 2 dex + 1bab +1point blank (4squares) +1 inspire

Lucanor |

Lucanor would likely have died, or wished he had, if not for Percival..."I'll see to Micheal... and hope I can actually hit this ugly thing at the same time" and he tosses a holy water vial at his attacker's face.
Round 7, Five step towards Micheal to avoid AOO and flinging holy water.. bonus from judgement and bard song inc
to hit: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
holy water dmg if hits: 2d4 + 1 ⇒ (3, 3) + 1 = 7

GM Niles |

Round 7 recap

Zombies prone zombie attacks Hecktor and misses upright ogre zombie attacks Lucanor and hits for 12 damage.
Cirthana and Payday, Lady Cirthana in a mighty swing cleaves a shadow in two, but not before it weakens Payday again! Payday goes full defensive once again, trying to dodge the shadow's cold touch.
Lucanor in an earlier post you stated that Lucanor was drawing the sword and engaging, then in this one you said 5' step and throwing holy water. You cannot take a move action and a 5' step. Gonna rule that your throwing the water, it hits.
Guys, please post your intended actions and 1 or two "if statements" giving me some options in case things change. Gared, Michael and Silas have been doing it pretty well.

GM Niles |

Round 8

Silas post some actions, gonna pretend you held

Cirthana and Payday Cirthana kills the remaining shadow.
Percival I ignored your healing, because you posted it for round 6, Lucanor took a hit round 7.
Battle Map

GM Niles |

Sorry, you told me to reconsider, so I thought changing it was okay. My mistake.
Lucanor's holy water burns the creature badly, but it retaliates and hammers him down hard and blood flows from the inquisitor's form.
You are correct. My mistake on the miscommunication! Gonna rerule that the Ogre hit Hecktor instead for 12. Hecktor is at 3/22 HP.

Lucanor |

Lucanor winces on Hecktor's behalf, seeing that he's inadvertantly rendered his ally as the only target. He'd hoped to get to that damned cultist, but priorities have changed. Instead he weaves behind Hecktor and prays to his goddess, "Forgive my selfish nature, Iomedae." Adding, "Hang in there, Hecktor."
Round 8: Cast CLW on Hecktor 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3

Silas Hawkwinter |

Silas shouts enthusiastically to the cultist, "Here boy! Here boy! Catch!" and mimes throwing something to him...
Free action: Inspire 8/10 rounds used
Standard action: Silas casts Grease DC 15 reflex. I'll aim to put most of it being him so those fighting are on firm footing.

Hecktor |

Hecktor's panting abit after that heavy maul from the ogre zombie. Nonetheless he remains standing.
"Enough of this! You in the dress, better make your last prayer to whatever deity you worship, because you are going to meet it right now!"
In a fluent pace commonly seen with trained forces, Hecktor moves to said cultist.
Standard (rolls include inspire):
Power ATTACK: 1d20 + 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (10) + 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 = 17
Damage: 2d4 + 6 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (2, 3) + 6 + 1 + 3 = 15
I do hope he's down.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Use a hero point, make it a dead cert ;)

GM Niles |

Round 8
Gared destroys the prone ogre zombie.
Silas greases the Cultist Ref: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Michael disabled but stable
Lucanor heals Hecktor for 3 hecktor is 6/22
Hecktor hit the upright OZ and cleaves it in half.
Percival Gonna take Percival's posted action of a bomb toss and use that roll
Cirthana and Payday Cirthana kills the remaining shadow.
The Cultist burns!
Combat over for now, there doesn't seem to be any undead in eyesight. Cirthana is praying over Payday who looks pale and wounded. Michael is on the ground, unconscious but stabilized.

Silas Hawkwinter |

Phew!

Lucanor |

Out of healing, Lucanor moves towards Micheal's body and glances over him.
Taking ten on healing to confirm what we already know. "It's a miracle he's still alive. Lady Cirthana, apologies for a less than stellar performance on my part, but if you've any healing left in you after seeing to that fellow, Micheal here seems stable but he's hanging by a thread."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14

GM Niles |

Cirthana escorts Payday over to the group. She smiles grimly at Lucanor's pronouncement.
I'm afraid I exhausted myself on the last of the shadows, it seems only Iomedae's will kept us from falling. I can move these two into the nearby building, the rest of you should see to the Sheriff. I saw shadows get inside!

Lucanor |

Luncanor raises a brow at the mention of two more shadows left to fight. I'm near dead. Heck ain't far behind and he's our heavy hitter. Michael is lucky to be alive. Not sure about the others, but we ain't in top shape. What do I remember about shadows?
Knowledge Religion: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15+3 to know weaknesses
He rises to his feet, "I'll do what I can." He's clearly intending to go to the sheriff's aid, "Pray for me, if you would while I'm in there." the last to the priestess.

Lucanor |

"Folks, things you might want to know about shadows if you don't already... we're talking about flying sneaky undead bits of darkness what hide really well and can leech a man's strength from him with every painful caress. Being part of the darkness, they see in it plenty easy. So...should be an interesting conflict." He heads towards the sheriff's office.

Gared the Ranger |

Gared leans heavily on his greataxe, obviously exerted from the running battle and the evil channelling of the spellcaster. Although he bears no physical wounds but he looks very tired. He listens to the conversation between Cirthana and Lucanor and sighs heavily. He swings his greataxe back up over his shoulder and into its sheath. After doing so, he pulls his shield down over his left arm and pulls the magical handaxe from his belt.
"Well, no one lives forever," he says grimly, "We have to go and aid the Sheriff."

Hecktor |

Hecktor is trying to shake his muscles loose. The fight had taken a toll, they were abit cramped, but it'll get better.
"Lucanor, are you able to cast a light, so to illuminate the sheriff's office? Maybe the shadows will be much clearer to see. The less shadow, the better we can fight them."

Silas Hawkwinter |

Silas uses the wand to renew his own light, and to cast one on Hecktor's scythe, "Seems right for hunting shadows!"
Although mostly unharmed, Silas is bone weary. He fixes his smile in a rictus grin and mutters, "No rest for the wicked, well let's be about it! Has anyone got any holy water left?"
Silas has used at least 4 charges, possibly more if others wanted light earlier. He's got 2 rounds of inspire left and is down to cantrips.

Lucanor |

"Light I can do," Lucanor lights a single coin and puts it in his left hand. His sword is in his right.
When he gets to the sheriff's office, he opens the door and flings the coin into the room

GM Niles |

As the party rounds the corner you see a scene of carnage....
Zombies are blasted apart, the remains of a few villagers look partially eaten. There are bones from a skeleton lying on the ground.
Sharvaros Vade is leaning heavily against a post panting. He doesn't say anything to the party as they pass, just nods in approval and recognition of a job well done. His son is holding Eior Ramel's head in his lap, the poor deputy took a skeleton's claw to the throat and bled out. Colbrin Jabbs is nowhere to be seen, Kimi and Kitana Eavewalker are also not in view.
Savram Vade is crying softly and muttering The wand, the wand...
The entrance to the jail lies ahead, it is lit with sputtering torchlight and the door is partially open, but it is dark inside.

GM Niles |

Gonna allow people to respond before I take Lucanor up on his offer to go inside the jail first!

Silas Hawkwinter |

Looks like some folks could do with any healing have left before going into combat again. I'm not sure if we have anything left however....
Niles is there any evidence of anything other than the two shadows getting inside?
Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16

GM Niles |

You guys are such pessimists...maybe there is an artifact inside the jail that will cast Heal on all of you!
Silas, you cannot see much inside the door of the jail. It's pretty dark in there. Also, Cirthana saw some shadows get inside....she didn't say two.
Words of wisdom for shadows, disrupt undead works, bombs work, magic weapons work, aid another if you can't kill one, help your buddy get the kill

Percival Lawson |

I think I still have a CLW extract in me...
Any triumph in Percival is quickly stamped out by the bloody tableau; he takes a step towards the villages, eyes scanning for wounded before he controls his first impulse and steps back with the group. "Event first, then consequences... forward."
Percival will be second in

Hecktor |

[quote Niles]Also, Cirthana saw some shadows get inside....she didn't say two.
Cut us some slack, that sounds too ominous in our current state. :)
Hecktor will go after Percival, carefully pointing his now glowing scythe to shady directions.
What a mess, poor guy.
"Sorry for your friend Gared."

Silas Hawkwinter |

Silas shakes his head upon seeing the fate of Eior Ramel and catches Savram's eye, "This wasn't your fault. He died in the line of duty, the gods will honour him."
Silas then walks over to the threshold of the jail and wonders, What am I getting into now?! Running seems sensible, going on is surely madness... Outwardly Silas looks unconcerned and pauses momentarily before humming his magic finding tune on a whim and entering.
Silas casts detect magic to see if anything inside has an aura, and enters the gloomy jail.

Gared the Ranger |

Gared looks on with a grim countenance at the devastation wrought and then feels a sudden punch to the stomach when he realises that neither Kimi or her mother are there. I have failed them, he thinks to himself, I shall not fail the others.
"Has anyone seen the Eavewalkers?" he asks quietly, his tone flat. Before anyone can answer, he turns to face the jail. There is an audible groan as his fist tightens around the haft of the magical handaxe they found in the monastery.
"First," he intones darkly, "We finish the undead. Then, we bury our own dead. And finally, I'll find those responsible for this attack." A few moments pass before he says anything else.
"And then I'll kill them."
I foresee an alignment shift to CG for Gared in the future and for the next level he's definitely going Urban Barbarian.

Lucanor |

Silas shakes his head upon seeing the fate of Eior Ramel and catches Savram's eye, "This wasn't your fault. He died in the line of duty, the gods will honour him."
Lucanor nods in silent agreement. He'd like to do more for the boy, to say more for him, but there's not enough time.

GM Niles |

Shadows: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Percival: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12
Silas: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
Gared: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Lucanor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Hecktor: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The party enters the jail and the light from Lucanor's thrown coin illuminates a grisly battlefield. The Sheriff and his two deputies definitely made their presence known among the undead and cultists alike. No less than two bodies dressed in robes and displaying Urgothoan holy symbols lie crumpled along with several skeletons and zombies. The two deputies lie on the floor, their broken bodies giving no doubt that they died violently. Two shadows stand over Sheriff Baleson, he is fallen and unmoving.
Round 1

Hecktor

Silas Hawkwinter |

I knew this was a bad idea, I don't think I can even so much as tickle these! Well there *is* that wand, I think I heard the command word, but I mislike the feel of the thing, there'd be consequences...
Silas takes a sidelong glance at Gared, notices the pent up fury in the way he's holding that new axe. I can't kill them, but maybe he can!
Aid another on Gared, and uh staying the heck away from those shadows... :)

Hecktor |

Hecktor quickly says to the rest in a hushed tone:
"Guys, something quickly. If i should take a nap, since i too am not in great shape, my vial of holy water is in the front pocket of my belt, take it if you really need it at that point.
That said....with the situation as it is, let's hope the sheriff isn't getting back up on their side of the law.
No offense meant Gared, we all hope for the best."

GM Niles |

Round 1
Lucanor casts bless on the party! +1 to hit

Silas aid another on Gared
Percival

Turn 1
Correct the calc if im wrong..
Applies to either shadow, whichever is left by Hecktor's turn.
Move to a shadow.
Standard: Attack.
Swing scythe: 1d20 + 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (11) + 2 + 4 + 1 + 1 - 1 = 18
Dmg: 2d4 + 6 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (1, 1) + 6 + 1 - 1 = 8
Attack roll's 2nd +1 is bless.

GM Niles |

Lucanor would have told you, non magical weapons are useless vs. incorporeal creatures. Redo your actions.

Gared the Ranger |

Gared's visage turns into a rictus of rage and he roars defiance at the shadows, as he raises his handaxe and swings it back-handed at the nearest shadow.
Attack (+1 handaxe, +5 from aid another and bless): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Damage (+1 handaxe, +1 bless): 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9

I thought you guys had Holy Water...
Percival post round 1 and 2 actions, everyone else round 2

Hecktor |

Well, yes, but seems better as a last resort. I'd rather lob it at a dangerous zombie than at the shadow in front of me at this point.
"Gared, 't seems to be working. Keep at it."
Trying to encourage the guy here..
Turn 2:
Continue to aid Gared.
