Ive got two girls of my own but are a little bit older (14 and 16). Lots of fun. :)
Do your kids do any RPing? I like the idea of playing some D&D with my kid(s) some day.
Game question: how far away are we from Roland and how high is the cavern ceiling?
Since Roland was sneaking up ahead, I decided to keep the distance between Roland and the group "off stage" and ambiguous, and summed it up by requiring one full round of movement to reach the battlefield/tactical map. Your last post would technically have been for your Round 1 action. Would you like to leave it as is, or would you like to double move first?
Here is a brief description of the room:
The chamber was fairly wide but the ceiling never got higher than about eight-to-ten feet. It was well lit by multiple azers with head and shoulders aflame and by the large snake-like salamander with dancing fires along its spiked spine that ran the length of its body. The light revealed several large roughly-circular patches on the floor of what appeared to be gray ash that rippled ever so slightly as if they were liquid.
The salamander creature was hard at work, pounding away at a large anvil while the azers milled around in close proximity, possibly observing the smithing. A hot orange glow peaked out from behind a rock wall near the anvil, indicative of the presence of magma.

Actually they did when they were younger. Now pen and paper RPGs are not cool so I switched over to co-op games in a PS4. I always try to find activities to include them. There are some good RPGs out there but not too many 'couch co-op'.

Yes, let's use std action to cast fly hex and use the move action to 'fly over there'.
Please let me know how far away I am when it's my turn to act.

I actually switched over from video games to pen and paper pretty late because my imagination is on par with any video game. But I do find myself trying to add technology to it.
My favorite couch co-op games:
Diablo
Borderlands
Rocket League
Castle Crashers
Super Smash Bros (not really co-op but fun with friends)
RPG's are hard to find since most are shooters and so is 3 or more players or same system. There are a number of co-op that are two player only or can't play on the same system (Looking at you Halo, my fav dark souls is this way too).

We enjoyed Diablo.
Now we're having a great time with Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition for PS4.
Couch co-op (2 people only), party system, turn-by-turn combat. What's not to like? :)

I thought you were looking for 3 people or more since you have 2 daughters.

Congratulations to you and your wife. I hope everything everything goes well.
I'm going to get caught back up today and a response in. After that, I'll be working to get in a response every day this week. If there is not enough in the gameplay thread, I'll at least pop in here and say hello.
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
Just letting you know I was by, I'll check back in again tomorrow.

thank you Crys.
I'm about 5 minutes from getting up the bad guys' post if you're still around. Sorry for me being so late today.
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
It would seem I am. I've got a post up and it's a doozy.
Catcher |
Well, f#+& it.
Glad I went against my initial idea. I was going to rush forward (using the ring power) and cast dragon's breath on the azers, but decided to play the buffer as I've always done and support the party with haste.
God's. That would have been so embarrassing.
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, I wound up passing out slightly after getting home from dinner with that family. I'll have a post up before the end of the night.

What sort of roll do we need to make to learn/know about the resistances of these creatures?
Gamemaster Zedth |
Note: Next time I'll work on putting all of extra crit damage into one roll.
No need for that. You can roll your damage however you prefer at the time. All at once or broken up is fine with me.
What sort of roll do we need to make to learn/know about the resistances of these creatures?
That's fair. The standard "knowledge" rolls will reveal this type of information; in this case it would be Knowledge Planes.
Crys did roll but I didn't provide much new information other than stating the salamander is large and advanced, and then citing the flavor text provided before. I should have given a bit of functional info as well. I usually do just that in my spoilers, so I apologize for the oversight this time around.
Please assume that with or without a roll, you as mid-level adventurers are seasoned enough to know that these fire-creatures are immune to fire damage and likely vulnerable to cold damage.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Quick reminder to please post a 'ooc' line in your posts stating any noteworthy conditions, buffs, debuffs, and most importantly your modified AC (from spells, effects, defensive actions, etc).

Happy holidays. Hopefully you all had a good weekend.
Gamemaster Zedth |
I hope you all had a decent holiday or at least got a day or two off work. I had Monday off in addition to the weekend and it is late at night for me at the moment, so I'm just checking in. I'm having a hard time settling down due to a doctor appointment tomorrow with the Mrs. If I don't have a combat post up in the next hour or so, please look for an update tomorrow (Tuesday) sometime in the late morning/early afternoon, Pacific standard time.

Nice curse Chiro!
I'm going to rule that your curse is successful. Instead of vulnerable to fire I think we can compromise with susceptible to fire.
Is that okay with you? It feels a bit cheeky to make a fire creature actually vulnerable (+50% damage) to its core element.

That's perfectly fine. The RP element of 'Oh s&$+, this burns' is there which is what I wanted. :)
@Catcher: you're welcome. I had the image of a gator dragging its prey under water and drowning them rather than outright killing them, which would have been bad for Catcher. :)
Gamemaster Zedth |
FWIW - dragging Catcher under the ash is exactly what it was planning on doing! Nice save, Chiro! Nice gaseous escape, Catcher!
Roland, just Roland |
Guys, on Friday I'm gonna be moving, so I might have no internet access for a few days. If that's the case please just wait a little longer, they will fix it. Eventually.
Catcher |
I've just finished upgrading my computer, and it's been very tiring. I'll post tomorrow morning.
Sorry for the delay.
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
I'll have a post up in a bit. I was at work a bit later tonight.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Chiming in to say hello -
We've had baby concerns that came up and I've not had enough time to post today. Watch for it tomorrow; I'll try to have up a post before lunchtime (west coast time).
Gromff Hammerhand |
Not surprising. No one wants to make the call. We've been like this on most decisions.
Gamemaster Zedth |
With that, the dwarf used his innate flying to lower himself to the cavern floor and help the others as required.
Have any of you read the original Dragonlance novels by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman? Chiro's action here reminded me of a scene early on the first Dragonlace book "Dragons of Autumn Twilight" where two of the main characters, twins named Raistlin and Caramon, are about to descend a rope from a tree-top inn. The stronger brother (Caramon) offers to carry his sickly mage brother (Raistlin), but the mage scoffs at the notion and simply jumps down and uses feather fall to slow his descent.
Love it!

I have read those books back in high school in the 80's and loved them. :)
Although this scene did not remind me of that though.
Game on!
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
My apologies for the delay, this year has been pretty ridiculous already. I'll have a post up today.
Gamemaster Zedth |
Was it just me or were the boards down almost all weekend?? It seemed like every time I tried the webpage it wouldn't load up.
I got a new computer over the weekend... it has a b&&$~in new video card so I can run the best games with the best graphics... I was busy gaming all weekend!
Gromff Hammerhand |
I noticed spotty connections too all weekend and people have commented on it in other games.
Crystallius Mor’drathal |
It was down for a good amount of time. I'm going to get a post up in a bit.
Gamemaster Zedth |
It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to close this game.
Stresses at work, responsibilities at home (in particular as to-be father) have put a damper on my free time, and the spotty posting lately has sapped my interest and energy in maintaining steady daily GMing.
To my three old friends - Roland, Catcher, and Gromff... it's been a good run. I've learned from you and you've made this a fun experience. To my two new friends - Crys and Chiro...I'm sorry we didn't have more time to get to know one another.
I think you're all awesome. I hope someday when I'm more free and have time to return with any gusto that we can game again on these boards.

Sorry to see this close.
Thanks for the opportunity to play.
Good luck in whatever the future holds for you all (hopefully some gaming).
Game on!
Roland, just Roland |
And then I came back after moving and reestablishing my wi-fi to see this ending? Damn it guys, common!
I've not read those novels, but I'm about to start reading a lot these days, so maybe that's in line, who knows.
Well, my new house looks definitely not ready, since it's a freaking mess all around, but at least we're out of the rent, and we have more space for our four cats and dog. Anyway, with this game ending I'm not sure if I'm gonna continue in any other games around the boards, so in case you need me just send me an e-mail at wmx7@hotmail.com
Thanks for the great experience so far, and maybe we should start making up decisions more, as Gromff suggested, but.... Anyway, if you change your mind please send word. Take care guys!
