Proclamation the Seventh: The odor and flavor of mint is an abomination to the refined palate. Be not the cretin! Mint use in candies, drinks, and all manner of confections is hereby proscribed.

Proclamation the Eighth: All nonnative ships' captains must remain on board their ships and are barred from setting foot on land within Kintargo's city limits - their crew and agents are free to come and go, but their actions are the direct responsibility of their captains, and any crew caught breaking Kintargan law shall have its punishment visited upon the crew members as well as their captain. Any captain caught setting foot in Kintargo is to be punished by squassation.

I hate to be a buzzkill, especially for a bon vivant such as Abelard, but Hedwick amended the creation guidelines to require the variant point buy in a later post. Does a pie remain that lacks an Asmodean's finger firmly inserted within?

Ha - the problem with posting a concept before reading the entire thread, dutifully illustrated!

Just as well I haven't got the crunch done yet...

I had spent the past two days crunching numbers trying to figure out which one to go with XD

Well this makes things easier, back to writing!

I have read through the first book of this AP and have GM'd about half of it. Would you be comfortable with a player who has already read the first book?

MechaPoet, I'd assume you know well enough to differentiate player/character information. I'm not worried about it, and it's only the first book, so that's fine.

Silver Crusade RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 32

Great! Here are the character questions for the application!

Sadie Hurrison, Dwarven dock worker!

Five things I should know about your character currently:
-Sadie is scrappy and determined, and doesn’t back down from a challenge easily - even one where the odds seem stacked against her.
-She is a dock worker at various places around Yolubilis Harbor. She values hard, honest work and expects it from others.
-Although she is a dwarf, she is most at home by the water. Spending a lot of time working outdoors, she looks weatherbeaten but hearty.
-Sadie puts nearly as much effort into her work as she does her relaxing - drinking, joking, boasting, arguing, and rough housing. Unfortunately, since the Thrashing Badger burned down, she doesn’t have a good place to get out her rowdiness and has turned her anger toward the newly arrived Barzilai Thrune.
-She is a proud Kintargan, the first of her generation born in Kintargo. She takes pride in her city and is quick to brag about it or defend it, given the chance.

Four people:
-Mery Weir: A human dock worker with long red hair, she is a former sailor with a coarsely jovial attitude. She is Sadie’s favorite drinking buddy and girlfriend of several years.
-Fraggi Hurrison: A dwarven would-be opera star with an inflated ego. He is Sadie’s insufferable twin brother, although she doesn’t like to admit it to most people.
-Hildra Hurrison: Sadie’s mother, an old sailor who fell in love with the city of Kintargo. A single mother of now-adult twins, she spends long jaunts at sea but always comes home to her children.
-Michiko: A tengu who hangs around the docks. She often approaches Sadie looking for a job there, but is a known thief who no one will hire unless they’re desperate. Sadie is friendly toward her, and pities her some, but is also wary to get involved with someone with a bad reputation.

Three memories:
-Years ago, Sadie got into a drunken argument with a sailor that turned into a bar fight. When the sailor, Mery Weir, turned up at the docks with some flowers by way of apology, Sadie was smitten and has been ever since.
- The first time Sadie ran into trouble with the law as a rambunctious youth for too openly expressing blasphemous and rebellious ideas, she was shocked. After a steep fine and threats of imprisonment, Sadie realized that Kintargo was not as free of Cheliax’s influence as she imagined and hoped.
-When Sadie was old enough, the first time her mother took her out on a sailing voyage as a deckhand was as exciting as it was terrifying. It was only a quick jaunt along the coast and back, but it instilled in her an admiration for sailing and the sea. More than that, though, it made her realize how glad she was to be home in Kintargo afterwards, and to never take her home for granted.

Two goals:
-Sadie recently decided she wants to save up enough money to open her own tavern. With the Thrashing Badger burned to the ground, Yolubilis Harbor (not to mention Sadie herself) is in need of a new tavern where the sailors and other rowdy folk can relax and let loose.
-Although she hasn’t said anything yet, Sadie wants to propose to Mery. She loves the woman, of course, but it also worried about the former sailor’s citizenship in a country as bureaucratic as Cheliax, especially with Thrune cracking down recently.

One thing that gets your character out of bed in the morning:
-Sadie wants to do right by her hometown (including especially her mother, Mery, and even her brother), and to preserve its relative freedom against the worst and most oppressive parts of Cheliax’s rule.

As far as class is concerned, I'm considering a few different options. I'm thinking either a gunslinger (crossbow maven), or a kineticist. If I went with a kineticist, I think I would go for a standard hydrokineticist or pyrokineticist, or a kinetic knight of some kind. I'm open to suggestions on those.

@GM: I'm finishing up my submission, but I was going to take Child of Kintargo for my bard and wanted to ask if a masterwork musical instrument would be an appropriate item to go with that?

That's fine by me, just sell me on it in your background. ;)

Did you happen to see my post from last week, Hedrick? I realized that, while it had a question left, it didn't really sound like a question, haha. So, for clarity's sake: May I plan my character around using the performers' accoutrements panoply?

So question. For my concept I'm running with a Green arrow style Ranger. A vigilante style (not Vigilante class). To be able to have an array of trick arrows I went with the Rich Parents trait. Are you okay with that?

Greetings all! I'm currently putting together a Gnomish cleric of Brigh for your consideration. I'll post him once I've finished both the crunch and fluff. Have a great day!

It's your inheritance, you can spend it how you please. :) That's fine by me.

Five Things:
Prankster, eccentric, deceptive. I may dip him into heavens oracle for the colour spray trick. He's lived in Kintargo all his life and embraced the artisan culture more readily than his relatively-stoic parents...at least, stoic for gnomes.

Four people:
His parents are very disappointed in his choice of profession. He hasn't even told them that he has developed his magical abilities.
Mim - his tattoo instructor and mentor.
Milan Jyn - his elderly landlady
Tippen Littlefingers - a halfling street cad and pick pocket who used to room with him

Three memories:
The day the tattoos started to move (Sivanah's call).
The day his parents kicked him out for wanting to pursue tattoo art.
A massacre by a group of Hellknights against a group of his artist friends, suspected Shelynites.

Two goals:
Earn his parents' respect so he can go home.
Help to make Kintargo safer for those on the outskirts of society.

One thing that gets him out of bed in the morning:
Learning more of Sivanah's ways and exploring the world of illusions. Every illusion he creates is a new way of seeing the world and a new experience. He never wants to suffer the Bleaching again.

These are the completed or mostly completed submissions that I've seen, in case people are looking to fill gaps, etc.

NO divine eh? Damn, I have never played an Oracle before, might be a good idea to switch up

@GM- I have an inquisitor in the works for this game. Is tommorow too late to submit an application?

Tomorrow is fine. I'll be wrapping up and picking on around June 1.

I'll be posting my Gnomish cleric tomorrow. Got the crunch worked out, now for the most important bit: the fluff :)

Sorry it's taking so long >_<

Will hopefully have everything up today or tomorrow (don't have to work :3)

This is TheSilverDreamer's submission. I'm going to come right out and admit that Tandus is a love letter to Noah Antwiler's Bard character 'Tandem the Spoony'. Except that I forgot that Tandem wasn't actually a great swordsman. Progression plan: pick up a masterwork buckler at first opportunity, take feats like fencing grace, improved critical, shield focus, extend & quicken spell, and focus on pumping charisma to be party face and be able to buff with spells and performances that affect the whole party, like Haste and Inspire Courage.

Solicitor here. This is Guerr, a Gnomish Spark of Brigh, who happens to be in way over his head in what's about to go down in Kintargo.

Background:
-Five things I should know about your character currently.

-A talented, albeit quirky, weapon designer. Innovation first, functionality second; the rules of engineering be damned! Now, where’s that flux capacitator?! His newest project revolves around a modified crossbow that can shoot alchemical payloads.
-Guerr’s state of mind is best described as ‘ordered chaos’, where today’s whims are somehow slotted into the daily routine. Somehow.
-Modular is another word to describe this little ball of flux. His leather jacket has been impregnated with magic sensitive oils so that a simply prestidigitation can alter its colors on a whim. The one thing that rarely changes about his looks is the permanent inclusion of brass rimmed goggles. While being tall for a gnome at 3”8, Guerr insists on sturdy work boots with heels.
-Currently overtaken by frustration because his ‘art’ is getting dismissive reviews at a symposium of worshippers of Shelyn, Brigh, Irori and other artsy divine types. Tools of destruction surely can be art! Said meeting, a mix between a seminar and art exhibition with workshops, is the reason Guerr is in Kintargo.
-Single, never been married before, a stranger to this thing called dating: Guerr is rather introvert for a Gnome. While he happily blurts out whatever he’s thinking when it is about work, he tends to bite his tongue when it comes to other people. Or, perhaps, they don’t interest him as much as the sciences do.

-Four people in his life.
-Auriell Whispers. Unanswered love. A lithe purple-haired girl (by Gnomish standards) with a smile (according to Guerr) that can melt a Gnome’s heart. A permanent resident of Brastlewark, she shines like a candle in the night whenever Guerr finds himself lying in bed and thinking about life.
-Mechaneer Terryl. Rival. A gifted clockwork engineer with a knack for the arcane. Whereas Guerr is chaos, Terryl is order. Calm and serene, Terryl is ever aware of his surroundings and knows how to sell his inventions. If the quality ain’t enough, his winning smile sure can seal the deal. Where the conflict between the two stems from is their radical different approach to the use of technology. Guerr insists that the soldier needs the best weapons whereas Terryl believes that he can create better soldiers, who then are the weapons. It doesn’t help that Auriell smiles at Terryl the way she does…
-Brother Sanos, a devotee of Abadar. Friend. The relationship between the two is born in business, but early signs of friendship are starting to show. Sanos, a young inductee into the church of Abadar, is trying to impress his elders by acquiring new and unique items to add to the God’s repository and who better than to supply him with such items than a Spark of Brigh! Although quite orderly, the young Sanos often finds himself caught up in Guerr’s explosive enthusiasm. Certainly his youth is to blame for that.
-Jelilah Blossoms, a halfling lass whose life revolves around wine and the sweet honey that is poetry. A question mark. As a fledgling muse, she’s still a relative nobody in the Society of Shelyn. A recent addition to Guerr’s social circle, they met at the symposium by chance. What binds them is their chaotic nature and the struggle to tame it for the sake of their work. The gnome so far hasn’t noticed her affectionate smile and the twinkling in her eyes, but has committed himself to spending more time with her. Surely being friends with a Kintargo native will turn out to be a boon during these uncertain times?

-Three of their most prominent memories - specific moments that changed them, impacted them, or stick with them to this day.
-Being shot down by the critics at the Haphazard Symposium of the Divinely Inclined. Pouring all your passion and craftsmanship into a single project only to have the jury, consisting of a snobby-nosed gentle-elf who calls himself a high priest of Shelyn and a wiry lore master of Irori, denounce it rocked the gnome’s world. The Irorite’s words, that in these uncertain times where we ought to get together, we should abstain from violence in all its many forms, gained applause from the gathered crowd while Guerr had but one desire: to toss a wrench into his face. If anything, the harsh criticism has only further intensified his obsession with science.
-Receiving the letter of acceptance to Brastlewark’s lauded (by gnomes all over Golarian) university of applied sciences and arts. It was then that his road to becoming a master craftsman and recognized scholar started. It was then when Brigh first revealed herself to him. Her divine spark kindled within the gnome and its luminosity has been growing ever since.
-The death of his songbird Ykra, a loud-mouthed diva who couldn’t stop singing whenever the gnome put his tools to use in the family’s workshop. Perhaps she was but a temporary guide, sent by Brigh to get him on the right path. Perhaps she was nature’s way of showing him that true beauty already exists and it is up to the craftsman to make the world a place where that beauty can prosper.

-Two goals - these are specific, action-oriented goals with a purpose.
-Born and raised in Brastlewark, the horrors of Cheliax are known to Guerr. One such horrors is the smile of a cute lithe gnome that goes by the name of Auriell. It is one of the few things that makes Guerr’s inner ticking go tocking. Guerr refuses to return home to Brastlewark without having at least one story and or feat to impress her with. Greatness beckons and Guerr is ready to rumble. Hear me roar![/b]
-Repair the reputation of Brigh after the horrible display at the symposium. A stunning invention. The scientific discovery of the year. Proof that the Shelynite and Irorite were dead wrong. Whatever will get the once-ticking now-tocking to become yet-again-ticking-certainly-not-tocking! Well, whatever? No, the gnome wouldn’t sign a pact with the devil. Cheliax has taught him that much.[/b]

-One thing that gets your character out of bed in the morning.
-What is a searing enigma? A question that truly burns. Night or day, it is there, shining bright. Dreams are illuminated by it. There is no escape. The question that truly causes Guerr’s serene ticking to go tock is the harnessing of science into a tool that can be used to not just alter reality, but make it better. Obsessed by perfection, the gnome wakes up every single day with the impulse to do better. If that manages to get him worldwide acclaim, we’ll call it a happy coincidence. The ego is just another tool in the craftsman’s toolbox. According to Guerr.

I got the crunch down, but I've yet to type it all out on his profile page.

Liberty's Edge

Pathfinder Rulebook Subscriber

Very Interested. It's been a while since I've played a PBP and I'm exited to give it another shot! I particularly like the setting and your focus on character backstory.

I generally like to play Religiously minded characters, so the premise of infighting in this AP has me exited. Question for you DM, after reading the players guide it seems there are 3 main contentious religions in the city, Shelyn, Serenrae, and Calistria. What religion plays the biggest role in the development of the story? I would want to be from the religion as a solid hook to drive the story forward.

If you want influential, there's a lot of plot regarding Asmodeus and Milani. The others are major players in the city, but their influence on story is essentially dependent upon how much you guys want to get into their inner workings. Sarenrae, Shelyn, Abadar, and Calistria all have a fair amount of presence.

Got a character (Micheal) that didn't make it into the last Hell's Rebels. I'll try here. Need to rebuild to match the requirements here. He's going to be an Aerokineticist (Overwhelming Soul). I happened by luck to see that it's now 15 point buy with +1 point buy/level as we move along. Any other changes I missed?

Backstory should answer most of the questions but I'll expand on those here.

Five things I should know about your character currently:

- Micheal is back in Kintargo after the traveling troupes most recent journey. They have been away long enough that none of them know that the Opera House has been taken over and thus are in for a rude awakening.
-Micheal has a dancers body as it is one his favored types of performance, mainly for how close it allows he and Serena to be. He is lithe and strong of figure and has handsome features. His face is extremely animated, a necessity of being mute, and he keeps his hair and beard well kept.
-Mute. Did I say that? Rather important as it is the source of his past difficulties but current passion for music and sound and self expression. He keeps a chalk board to talk to people, can sign if they know the language, and Serena understands him implicitly. Might take the teamwork feat Bonded Mind for this. Had ideas to either include the NPC or pick a PC to be his Serena. A bard preferably, or at least someone with a good singing voice.
-Micheal's only aspiration was to just be understood when he was a child. Music was opened the door and now he wants to take that to greatest possible level. He continues to write songs and choreograph dances that tell stories and elicit emotions in others. Because of its influence, the Opera House and Shensen are very important and he will not take kindly to what Thrune has done. Especially now that he's discovered a strange power that may help.
-Now that he has found people that understand and care for him, Micheal is an extremely happy and charismatic individual, despite his in ability to speak. He uses body language and facial expressions to give his written word the emotional emphasis he wants to convey. He mimes sometimes too. So he is very mobile. When not involved in using his whole body to express himself, he is usually pensive, playing notes on his guitar which is almost always on him. Silence is his greatest fear.

Four people in his life:

-Serena obviously. His lover, partner, passion, rival and friend. Understands him without words. She's his age but is nearly on par with her mentor Shensen in singing, dancing and acting. She is decent with a sword too through mock fights on stage.
-Shensen. Original inspiration for doing music and current idol. Her level skill is his goal.
-Markos. I hit only the important points and people in his backstory so a lot where left out. Markos taught him the guitar and, for that, he is eternally grateful. Its his favorite instrument by far.
-The troupe. This might be cheating but the travelling troupe as a whole, all its people are very important in his life currently.

Three of their most prominent memories - specific moments that changed them, impacted them, or stick with them to this day:

These are all in the backstory so I'll be brief.
-His first viewing of a performance held by the Opera House's traveling troupe. It was when he met his idol, his future love, and future passion in music.
-His first performance. Okay this one isn't in there but I decided to roll up the big ones together. That left an opening. He's been performing music for the travelling troupe for a while so of course he has been on stage to play for them. To actual see the emotions on the audience's faces, and to know he did that, was moving experience.
-When he discovered a strange power to cause waves of force with his music. I am essentially fluffing the kinetic blast as a powerful riff from his guitar. Also the same day he realized he was in love.

Two goals - these are specific, action-oriented goals with a purpose:

-Protect Serena. Top of the list now.
-Continue learning ways to communicate and improve those he knows now.

One thing that gets your character out of bed in the morning:

-Any and all sound from the world. Birds chirping, people talking, wind blowing. Sound gets him up. Silence would be a nightmare.

Expressing interest, and I'll try to put together a character by the deadline. I'll probably aim at divine since that seems the least populated category.

Submitting Onorix Jhaltero, Child of Kintargo and Sanctified Slayer Inquisitor of Kelinahat . Here is a more accurate image of Onorix

Five things about Onorix

Spoiler:
1. He is the youngest child of Baron Canton Jhaltero, having only one other elder sister who is missing and presumed dead. Therefore, unless his sister shows up again, he is the de facto heir of house Jhaltero.

2. He is a worshiper of the emyral lord Kelinahat, a demigoddess of spies, intrigue, and stealth. The worship of her runs in the Jhaltero family for generations, although it was abandoned during the Thrune ascendency to the Throne of Cheliax for political reasons. To his knowledge, Kelinahat is not one of the officially banned or suppressed deities in the country, but he has great doubts that his religious views would be looked upon favorably by the powers that be if his faith was discovered. As such, he keeps it a secret.

3. Onorix is content to lurk in the shadow of another's reputation (until recently, that person has always been his older sister, and to a lesser extent his parents), and typically doesn't pay too much mind to how other people view him unless it directly effects his line of work. However, he cares deeply about how the person he "shadows" views him. Their thoughts and opinions of his conduct and behavior are given extraordinary weight in whatever action he takes, especially if they are a family member (up until recently, the two have been synonymous).

He doesn't prefer to be the leader, and doesn't think he'd be the most qualified to do so (although he would certainly say he is not the least qualified person for the task by any means). He is more comfortable being an advisor, confidant, faithful companion, and loyal ally (and, in this campaign, spymaster role of the rebellion).

4. Onorix likes things to go smoothly - for everything and everyone to be in their proper place. Until recently, his throughts on House Thrune and the Asmodeasns were never glowing, but he would be the type of person to always remark that they got the metaphorical trains running on time. That said, he has never been a fan of the cruelty or ruthlessness they ruled with to, essentially viewing it as unnecessary and overall reducing how "smoothly things went". He wants peace and for those around him to be treated fairly, even if they have no personal connection to him, and is unable to quell his conscience when he watches others suffer unfairly.

5. He would best described as reserved and thoughtful, humble and level headed, and passive and reactionary. While likely not the smartest man in any given situation, he very well might be the least foolish. It serves him best to be the last one who speaks in a discussion, the better to listen and think about what everyone else has said. He's a good listener... and he's got the patience to listen until he knows just how to react to what someone else says. This isn't to say he can't go out and take the initiative to "listen" to what others have to say when they would rather not have him listen, of course. In fact, he's very good at that.

Related to this, he's got the habit of lurking in dark areas of rooms, simply listening to what others say. Knowledge is a useful tool.

(Bonus Round!) 6. His hobby is coin collecting- he goes out of his way to acquire coins minted in other countries or during previous eras. He even has a silver coin from ancient Azlant, which is the prize of his collection. (Note: I don't plan for this to give him any monetary value by selling the coins, it's just a hobby and part of his character).

Four people in his life

Spoiler:

(Alignments and classes are included in case you want them as characters in the game. For Rusina and Tullus, it's possible both of them are dead- I'll leave it up to you if you want that to be the case).

- Rusina Jhaltero: She is Onorix's elder and only sibling, along with his closest friend and confident- whatever secrets the two held from the rest of the world, they shared with each other. As she is the heir to house Jhaltero (barring recent events), Onorix has been content to grow up on the shadow of his sister's prestige, never resenting her for the glory (and the accompanying responsibility that came with it) that she received solely by the position of her birth.

Rusina, along with her husband Tullus, have been missing since the Victoroca mansion burned down, much to Onorix's chargrin. He's been looking for them ever since.

(I'm thinking she's a NG cleric of Kelinahat, probably with the Darkness (Night) and Knowledge domains).

- Tullus Victocora Onorix has known Tullus since childhood- but the two of them got off to a rocky start. The youngest child of the Victocora family, Tullus was always a competitive child. While the same can't be said about Onorix, Tullus made it his mission to outpreform the young Onorix in everything he attempted. For his part, Onorix was content to offer Tullus advice on how to go about the goal, knowing there was nothing he could do to infuriate him more.

As the two grew older, the petty rivalry was put behind them, and the two became fast friends. Despite their very different personalities, temperaments, and interests, the two get along fairly well. Onorix was the best man at Tullus's wedding to his sister, Rusina, which was held in Songbird Hall. While the match was a political move by Onorix's father, it was rather fortunate that the wedded couple had been interested in each other since the two were old enough to seriously consider such things.

The night of their wedding coinsided with the night the Victocora mansion burning down, and Tullus has been missing along with his wife, Rusina, ever since. His efforts to try and locate the two of them have all been in vain, at least for now.

(NG, possibly a cavalier or a fighter of some sort)

- Baron Canton Jhaltero: Onorix's relationship with his father is... complicated. Onorix is not a born rebel, and is definitely one to silently suffer discomfort rather than to risk his station and lot in life by acting against authority. But his current circumstances have pushed Onorix to his wits end.

Baron Canton divorced his wife when Onorix was young, and sent her way. In retrospect, Onorix doesn't hold it against his father as much as he used to- the woman was, he knows now, incredibly manipulative and cruel. Nevertheless, there is still a part of him that resents his father essentially depriving him of a mother in his life (which he realizes might be part of the reason he grew so close to Rusina growing up).

His father raised him and his sister well enough, ensuring that both his children were educated and looked out for. While Canton didn't spend as much time with Onorix as he would have liked, the Baron was never a distant father. In all, Onorix didn't have too much to complain about as far as his father went... at least, up until the last few months.

Without consulting either of his children, the Baron told each of them that they were engaged. His sister was lucky- she was going to marry the love of her life, Tullus Victocora. Onorix was significantly less lucky- he was to marry Evana Sarini, the eldest child and heir to house Sarini. Onorix had never liked the woman (irregardless of her feelings for him). One child married to a house that all but openly defied house Thrune, another child married into a house of ardent Thrune supporters: Baron Canton Jhaltero is the type of man who knows how to hedge his bets.

In the aftermath of the Victocora, the Baron has done little with his family's network of informants to try and locate Rusina. Onorix has a good guess as to why- he doesn't wan this own family to be the next victims of arson. As the new heir to the house, Canton has been pushing Onorix to falling into line, to give up on trying to finding his sister, to marry Evana, and to move on with his life.

Onorix doesn't intended to listen to any of this advice.

(Alignment: LN. He'd either be a rogue or just an aristocrat. Keep in mind he's not a Thrune supporter per say, he just wants to keep his head down and firmly in between his shoulders, and he thinks the best way of doing that is to maintain the status quo and play safe. He's an Abadar worshiper. )

- Evana Sarini Evana is the eldest child and heiress to house Sarini, and Onorix's fiancé. Onorix has known Evana since childhood- it's to be expected, considering that she's only one year older than him, and all the noble families of the Green know each other. Evana takes after the rest of her family in most repeats, being an unapologetic Asmodean, diabolist, and supporter of House Thrune. She also happens to be enfatuated with Onorix, and has been for several years now. Beyond that- she does genuinely care about Onorix's wellbeing, and actually tried to console him for the loss of his sister and brother in law (which in all likelihood was the work of Thrune agents).

Onorix's thoughts regarding her are a bit more comped. He doesn't particularly like her- in fact, if anything, he despises her family for supporting the twisted order Kintargo currently languishes under. They are a cruel, vile lot that he wants little to do with, and the fact that he'll be marrying into the family nearly sickens him. That said, he does have some sort of feeling towards Evana. He would call it pity, both because she loves a man who does not love her back, and that she had the misfortune to be born into the Sarini family.

She's a spellcaster, a wizard to be more precise, and well versed in many topics related to the Great Beyond, especially Hell and it's Devils. Onorix has spent some time with her within the past few days trying to get inside the head of diabolists, trying to understand how they think and act. Evana was more than happy to oblige her fiancé with the information. Onorix doesn't expect it to help in finding his sister, but he was out of options at the time.

He is set to be married to her in two and a half months [totally willing to change the time table for this at your discretion, DM] with most of the planning being handeled by the Sarini family. Onorix wants to get out of the commitment, but currently doesn't see a way to do that without fleeing the country entirely, which he's unwilling to do.

(Alignment: LE, with slight LN tendencies that might grow over the course of the campaign. As far as her build, I'm thinking she would be an infernal binder conjuration wizard).

Three Important Memories

Spoiler:

- The day Rusina found the objects that were once part of the family's shrine to Kelinahat, shoved in a box in the basement. That was the day Onorix found faith, he and his sister agreeing to restore the family's tradition of worshiping this deity in secret.

- The night the Victocora mansion burned down, Onorix was awake. He rushed outside of his own manor over to the burning building, fast enough to see someone running away from the scene. He chased after them through the city of Kintargo, but eventually he lost the trail.

- The day he was contacted by someone who claimed to know his sister- that she was with the Silver Ravens (something Rusina had hinted at to her brother, and by extension he already knew), and that he would be able to get involved with the organization by meeting someone at the protest. [See the "meeting a contact" reason for protest in the player's guide].

Two Goals

Spoiler:

1. Making contact with the Silver Ravens (and afterwords, likely [read: certainly, because I do want to have a character who actually cares about the main plot line] joining them). He
knows that his sister and brother in law have some sort of connection to this group. It's the closet thing he has to a lead on Rusina's whereabouts, so he hopes becoming involved with the group will actually help him find the two of them. Or at the very least, what happened to them.

If joining a group that wants to rebel against this rotten government is the only price he has to find his family members, he'll pay it happily. With any luck his missing family will actually be a part of the movement themselves....

[As discussed above, my reason for being at the protest is going to be the "meeting a contact" option. This ties into why he wants to make contact in the first place. ]

2. Onorix is currently looking for information that can be used to blackmail either his father (Baron Canton Jhaltero) or Countess Urora Sarini (Evana's mother). The purpose of this would be to persuade one of them from withdrawing from the offer of marriage. Of the two, he would prefer to blackmail Countess Sarini, mainly because she's a terrible person and deserves whatever comes to her in his eyes. Beyond that, he doesn't want to completely trash his relationship with his own father.

Of course, his ultimate goal is to break the marriage contract, so he's more than willing to use other means of achieving this goal.

(Bonus Round!) 3. He wants to find out who it was that burnt down the Victoroca manor in order to personally confront them. This will be all the more true if it turns out that his brother in law and sister died in the fire (something that's currently unknown to him, but Onorix refuses to consider the possibility that they are dead for now).

As for what he'll do when he confronts whoever it is... he really isn't sure about that. Part of him wants to slit the man's throat, another part makes him just to ask the person why they did it then let them go.

He'll make that decision when the time comes.

What Motivates Him

Spoiler:

- For everything to go back to the way it was before Thrune came to Kintargo. For now, he simply thinks this means to get his sister and brother in law back. He's soon going to realize that that to truely accomplish this goal, he's going to have to kick Thrune out of Kintargo all together.

@GM- As for his stats, I put together a character sheet on Mythweavers, as I'm familiar with how they work. You can view it here. Is this sufficient, or do you want a stat block for this site? This is my first time making a character for play by post on this website.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

• Five things I should know about your character currently. This is not about their aspirations, nor about their past. I want to know what they can do, who they are, personality, appearance, reason for being in Kintargo, etc.

Spoiler:
- Arani runs around the city in the guise of The Black Thorn, a veiled, hooded budding urban legend, out to help those in Kingtaro unable to help or protect themselves.
- Despite all of her complaining she genuinely loves the city, and it is this love in part that drives her nightly, and occasionally daily patrols.
- She rarely gives her last name to anyone, partially to protect her parents, despite her estranged status, and partially because of her borderline disownment.
- Follower of Milani. Boredom with her life and encountering a copy of The Light of Hope, opened her eyes to the way of the Everbloom, and the desire to battle the growing oppression in the city of her birth.
- Darkly beautiful, Arani possesses a strong and slightly stern presence, her silky dark hair cut at medium length, usually worn loose, her almost flawless complexion marred only by a scar that extends from the inner corner of her right eye, running across her cheek to the edge of her jawline. Rather than detract from her beauty, it adds a rakish quality to her, especially when she smiles. Tall and athletic, she is clearly in considerable physical condition, while maintaining feminine curves.

• Four people in their lives. These could be friends, parents, lovers, enemies, rivals - let your imagination go wild.

Spoiler:
- Lord Jacoby Thorindal. Minor Lord whose holdings include a minor manor on The Greens. Arani’s father. Currently not on speaking terms due to her deliberate sabotage of a marriage arrangement that would have notably elevated their status. Narrow minded and extremely traditional.
- Lady Rhiannon Thorindal. Minor Lady. Arani’s mother. Estranged but they secretly communicate, and Arani visits when she knows her father is out or away from home. She understands that her daughter could not betray herself to marry a man, despite what it would mean for their family, and quietly supports her decision to be true to herself.
- Rolento Adar. Thorindal family Man at Arms. Responsible for teaching Arani the bow and how to fight. Semi-retired, and grooming his eldest son to take over. Former soldier. Walks with a limp from an arrow to the knee.
- Kirrin Riverleaf. Arani saved this Halfling from certain arrest and probable death by hiding him and the pair of slaves he was helping to escape from the guard. A member of the Bellflower network, he is her contact should she need to help someone escape the city.

• Three of their most prominent memories - specific moments that changed them, impacted them, or stick with them to this day.

Spoiler:
- The day she first realized the typical noble life wouldn’t work for her. At the age of 12 she saw a baker beating a street urchin who he caught trying to steal bread. Without a second’s hesitation she jumped out, racing across the street and hurled the book she was reading at him, breaking the baker’s hand. Her parents had to pay the man for his loss of income due to being unable to bake.
- The day she saw Rolento take a goose out of the air with an arrow to the eye. It was also the day she made him promise to teach her archery.
- The day she snuck out of a stuffy ball where she and other noble girls were essentially being parades for the noble sons of importance, and found herself entranced by the new stable girl, despite the fact that she was up to her knees in filth at the time.

• Two goals - these are specific, action-oriented goals with a purpose. "I want to become the King of Ustalav" is not a goal. "I want to become the King of Ustalav so I have the power to save my crappy fishing village from the terrible undead that seem to run rampant in this damn country" is a goal.

Spoiler:
- Make contact with the Silver Ravens, rumored to still exist somewhere underground in the city. Things in the city are getting worst, and they are needed now more than ever.
- Become the thing that the city’s predators fear most, and decent citizens look to for hope. Hunt those that would prey on the weak, abuse unjust law and make the city’s citizens suffer.

• One thing that gets your character out of bed in the morning. This is different from a long-term goal. This is a purpose, or a motivator, or a short-term ambition, and it can change as time goes on. "I wake up every morning determined to be better than I was yesterday" is an ambition/purpose. "I get out of bed so I can prove my dad wrong" is a purpose. Tell me what makes you tick.

Spoiler:
- My life is my own. It will not be controlled or dictated by others. Everyone deserves this freedom, and I will fight to defend the rights of others to it.

HedwickTheWorldly wrote:
If you want influential, there's a lot of plot regarding Asmodeus and Milani. The others are major players in the city, but their influence on story is essentially dependent upon how much you guys want to get into their inner workings. Sarenrae, Shelyn, Abadar, and Calistria all have a fair amount of presence.

I considered Milani, but Desna fit much better with a DEX-based character, and I have read that Desna is one of the "persecuted" religions in Cheliax, even though they tend to be more rural.

Anyway, looking forward to the results!

Just read about the Angelfire Apostle and want to play a blasty, avenging cleric of Sarenrae for this adventure now, but I'm sticking with this guy. Playing too many clerics right now anyways...

Hmm... Realized I have been lurking and haven't really been posting... Hmm...

Liberty's Edge

GM, working on a cleric of Milani. Would a changeling be okay? I like how the thematics would work out: while she'd be rebelling against Thrune, she would also be rebelling against her hag genetics. And if okay, I would also like to ask if the Noble Scion feat would be okay, for a Thrune-supporting house, because that would make her also rebel against her family, thus completing the Rule of Three: rebelling against her city, her biological mother, and her adoptive family.

This character is ready for submission. Please meet Parai Sarini, hagspawn that was switched as a baby into one of Kintargo's noble families. She has subsequently rebelled against the Sarini family and the Asmodeus church, and has turned into a cleric of Milani.

If the answer to the question in the previous post (whether a changeling would be allowed) is negative, then please ignore this post. I just felt inspired to do this character up right now, so only read it if a changeling is okay. Otherwise ignore my submission. :)

The alias has the statblock/sheet, and the spoiler below has the answers to the required questions.

Background:

Five things you should know about Parai currently:

1) She is on the run from her noble family, and is currently living in the streets with no place to stay. She can't turn to any of her old contacts, because her family is powerful and they could no doubt obtain her whereabouts from anyone she contacted. With no shelter, she is wet and cold and hates the weather in Kintargo more than she had ever realized before.

2) She is trying to muddle her way through a change of faith. She abandoned her old faith of Asmodeus and is now making baby step overtures toward the faith of Milani. She has not yet obtained a holy symbol of Milani and is thus unable to channel energy or cast spells with focus components until she obtains one, which may be non-trivial considering the Thrune crackdown. She prays every day to Milani for guidance and receives a small amount of spells in return.

3) Her change of faith also necessitated an alignment shift from LN to CN, so right now, she is questioning the most basic facts of life. She has turned her back on her family and on her faith, so her entire moral code and ethical worldview is in flux. As a result, she's in a very vulnerable place emotionally, and is desperately searching for authority figures and safety/security.

4) All she's managed to bring along with her is an old ceremonial chainmail in which she used to participate in Asmodean rituals. It has Asmodeus' symbols all over it, which makes her mortified. She is seriously considering selling it to get money for food and shelter. But on the other hand she's worried that she might have to leave the city for the wilderness to flee her family, and she would need the armor for protection in the wild.

5) As she's going deeper and deeper into the gutter and having to perform vile things to survive, her hag instincts are surfacing more every day, bringing out dark impulses that make her want to hurt things, hurt people...even kill.

Four people in Parai's life:

* I am leaving these unnamed because I don't know how much canon has established about the populace of Kintargo. For example whether the members of Parai's family and noble house are named in canon material. Also, hoping that we could connect the dots and make these people be characters that appear in the AP.

1) Currently the most important person in Parai's life is a Milanite woman (a cleric, a paladin, or perhaps just a very persuasive lay person) who was there for her when Parai started having doubts about the faith of Asmodeus. Parai learned about Milani's faith and tenets from this woman, and their discussions found fertile ground in Parai, who is now taking her halting steps into the faith of Milani -- but unguided, as the Milanite woman has disappeared, perhaps a victim of Barzillai Thrune's purges? This person could perhaps eventually become a cohort at level 7+.

2) The importance of Parai's family cannot be understated. Though they are not her biological family (an evil hag took the Sarinis' biological child and replaced her with Parai -- even to date the Sarinis are still unaware of the switch), Parai has spent her entire life with them, learning their moral code, their ways of doing things. Right now, she wants to get away from them, but they are not going to let her go that easily. The Sarinis are likely to play a role in Parai's life for some time to come.

3) Parai was betrothed to be married before she ran away. Part of why she ran away was because she didn't want to be married to the man. It could be interesting if her abandoned fiance turned out to be an important NPC down the line in the AP, either an ally or an enemy. Either way it could make for awkward interaction.

4) Parai's biological mother -- a hag -- is still out there somewhere, and the two of them have never met or had any sort of confrontation since Parai was a baby. While none of the Sarinis know about the hag, the hag most certainly does know which family she placed her baby in.

Three of Parai's most prominent memories

1) The time she first read about changelings and how they often have pale skin, dark hair and mismatching eyes. Realizing that all of that applied to her was a powerful moment, and ever since then she's never been absolutely sure that she belonged with her family. Since then, she's kept looking at family paintings, watching her relatives when they sleep, looking for features that she could recognize as her own. She was thirteen when this happened.

2) The time she had her first sexual encounter, with an older noblewoman of Kintargo. Parai was told that she was pretty, that she was beautiful, desirable. She knew that it was just talk to get her in bed, but it felt so good to hear it, after years of wondering if she was a freak, if she was going to turn into a horrible hag, an ugly, awful monster. That terror has always been with her -- when is she going to turn into a hag? Today? Tomorrow? Living in such fear every day, is it any wonder that she latched on to the precious memory of being told that she was beautiful and loved, even though she knew it wasn't really true? That night is one of her most cherished memories.

3) The time her rebellion began. When her family and her church insisted that she go through with her marriage and become subservient to her husband as an inferior, as an accessory. How her parents, siblings and priests insisted that things simply just were done this way and there was no way out of it. How much she felt like a slave. That time is a dark memory, and she holds on to it, especially now that she is sleeping in the gutter. The dark memory of marital slavery is how she reminds herself of what awaits her if she went back. She is never going to forget how humiliated and objectified she felt. And she is never going to go back. She'd rather die.

Two goals

1) Parai wants to find the woman who taught her about Milani. She wants to repay her for her kindness, to make sure she is okay in this turbulent time, and to learn more from her.

2) Parai wants to find out if she is really a Sarini, or if she is a changeling. Any information that she could gather regarding changelings, their nature and their origins would be eagerly, almost desperately, gobbled up. She wants to -- needs to -- have peace of mind regarding whether she's a monster or not. Right now, she does not know, and that is the worst sort of fear.

One thing that gets Parai out of bed in the morning

1) Cold and hunger and fear. Right now, Parai has no shelter and no security, and no option to just stay in bed. She's working on survival at a very basic level right now.

@Onorix, Parai Sarini: Unless there's been an extension, it sounds like the deadline was Friday, so you are probably too late. Arani Thorindal: that might apply to you too if submissions needed to be complete by then, though you were on the thread before the deadline.

You're probably fine. Hedwick's a pretty chill dude. I'm not the GM, so I certainly don't have a say obviously, but he doesn't seem the type to say no if he hasn't picked anyone yet. Besides, more submissions is only better for him, right? More options to hopefully land a better group.

Liberty's Edge

I've been fully embedded at PaizCon the last few days, so have made no progress on my character... but the submission will come in hopefully tomorrow.

(I did, however, say "Praise Milani!" in front of Queen Abrogail Thrune herself!)

If I'm too late, that's okay. Just throwing my hat in in case I'm not.

Nobody is too late. Whew, there are a ton of great choices, though!

I'll be driving home today from the Con (about 8 hours) so I'll be sorting and looking through submissions tomorrow and Wednesday, and picking by Friday, possibly Thursday. I'll say the HARD DEADLINE for 100% completed submissions is TOMORROW (TUESDAY, MAY 30), at Noon mountain time.

Maybe I'm mistaken, but it sounded to me like the deadline was Friday and then selections would be announced June 1.

I wasn't looking at a calendar when I said Friday, because that's definitely June 2. So I'm closing things on 5/30, which is Tuesday.

!!!

I'll try to have something together today, sorry it's taken so long.

I'm going to retract my submission of Jacomo; just not satisfied with him from a fluff standpoint and can't seem to make him feel right. Apologies for the late withdrawal, and good luck to all those who remain!

Made the changes. Should be good. Micheal

1 person marked this as a favorite.

• Five things I should know about your character currently. This is not about their aspirations, nor about their past. I want to know what they can do, who they are, personality, appearance, reason for being in Kintargo, etc.

Spoiler:
1) She prefers to go by her fist name, or Ozzy, when not having donned her helm, but when it is on she answer's to her father's family name.

2) She gets her thuggish good looks and her sad and hungry red eyes from her Father, who hailed from Ustalav. Her mother, being Chelish, didn't help her pale complexion, nor does her constant wearing of armor or nightlife. Already tall and imposing growing up her Gray Maiden training escalated her physique, while rewarding her with numerous scars for her trials.

3) An mercenary Errant of the Scarlet Rose company, she's traveled from Korvosa to Kintargo, drawn by the tales of the Silver Ravens and also the Knights of the Torrent in what she sees as a sisterland to her home, she hopes to put her sword to good use in this devil touched land.

4) Although not all that religious many of her sisters-in-arms drew towards the following of Milani and Shelyn, with herself choosing to follow the former, though she doubts if the path she has chosen away from her sisters would be what her not-quite-Goddess wants.

5) While not a fan of jewelry or extravagant clothing she loves lotions and perfumes to help offset the permanent wounds and constant wear her armor and weapon have on her. Clothing wise she prefers a heavy coat over her armor which she does the best to maintain, the extravagant Maiden fullplate intended more for intimidation than long term mercenary work. Her Gray Maiden cloak she wars more like a scarf.

• Four people in their lives. These could be friends, parents, lovers, enemies, rivals - let your imagination go wild.

Spoiler:
1) Filarina Glantsliem, leader of the Scarlet Rose, she has saved countless women who were subjugated to Queen Ileosa's madness. She fits every idea of what Osveta thinks a Hero is, and is the one who pulled her out of the darkness.

2) Kelles Vel, Filarina's second in-command and lover, like the rest of Scarlet Rose she was pulled out of the madness that was the Gray Maidens, but unlike Filarina the cold and ruthless maiden still clung to her mind, a trait she noticed in Osveta as well, who she did her best to help aid in separating the woman and the maiden.

3) Sabina Merrin, outside of the torture there was the training in how to wear the heavy armor and use weapons and shields and how to fight in a unit alongside her sisters. It was the one bright spot in all the darkness, the open thing that made her and everyone feel like they were accomplishing something. Despite everything that happened, Osveta is at least grateful for Sabina making something of worth come from all of it.

4) Ileosa Arabasti, the mad queen who damned an entire city's worth of people and almost led Korvosa to ruin, above all the lives she shattered none were broken more than those of the Gray Maidens, save the dead. In her bid for power she destroyed the lives and minds of countless young women who had wanted nothing more than to save their city, or who had fallen for the cruelly beautiful queen. Because of her more than anything, is why Osveta has nothing, save the monster that Queen made, or rather, had stirred awake.

• Three of their most prominent memories - specific moments that changed them, impacted them, or stick with them to this day.

Spoiler:
1) As much as it shaped her life Osveta was too young, just a babe, to remember her mother or her murder, leaving her to be raised by her grandparents. Something that will stick with her forever though is the day she saw a combination of grief, happiness, and peace on their faces as the news of the crimelord who killed her mother being slain by vigilantes reached them, instilling in her hope and knowledge that even if the guards and government failed them there were still heroes out there.

2) Her second most prominent memory occurred soon after, all too soon. Even with the catharsis that was brought about by their daughter finally getting justice Osveta's grandparents did not get to enjoy it for long, soon falling prey to the Blood Veil plague sweeping the city in a flood of death. For once truly all alone, Osveta quickly fell for the false hope and empty promises of their mad queen shortly after.

3)While she has come a long way in locking the tortures and other harrowing of her time being trained and indoctrinated into the Gray Maidens away from her waking thoughts and into her nightmares there is still one memory, or rather, realization that still haunts her, more pronounced than any scar on the outside. That it was all for nothing.

All she had endured, all the suffering, had finally molded her into a weapon, one she hoped was worthy of her queen, and when she finally stepped back out into the world, ready to be wielded by her queen, she was gone. She never had a chance to serve in Illeosa's name. All the torture, all the madness, and worse, the acceptance of those two things, day in and day out, in a deranged hope that she was helping her city and queen, everything, was all for nothing.

• Two goals - these are specific, action-oriented goals with a purpose. "I want to become the King of Ustalav" is not a goal. "I want to become the King of Ustalav so I have the power to save my crappy fishing village from the terrible undead that seem to run rampant in this damn country" is a goal.

Spoiler:
1) Osveta wants to learn all she can about those who stood against tyrants, even if the Silver Ravens failed, their stories still leave behind little bits of hope for her others to pick up and cling to.

2) While she doesn't quite have the mind to start a full on rebellion she does notice some similarities, and differences that highlight those similarities, between the mood of Kintargo and her home city, the former being a slow burn rather than the explosion that was Korvosa. While she doesn't think she'll be of much use, she wants to be there when the levee breaks.

Spoiler:
"Every day that I wake up and I'm still me, every day that I still have my face, is another day that I've won. I didn't take my life when I learnt Ileosa had fallen, even after I had been made into a weapon for her. Even as a weapon I will find a use for myself, rather than letting my armor and sword be who I am. I haven't won yet, but I'm beating her, and everyday that I wake up, I'm beating her more and more. I will win."

@Hedwick, sorry it took me so long, and if it's a bit wordy >_<

Going over the character sheet right now to make sure everything else is in order.

Liberty's Edge

Oh crap. I'm transit, will not be able to make it. Can you extend it a day? Based on what you posted before, I thought I'd have time after the post-PaizoCon travel day.

Sure, that'll work - I ended up more swamped than I expected, myself. The drive was brutal.
