Male Dwarf Avenger 9

Quillan's eyes look mournful for a moment as Rusty mispronounces his name, obviously over something more meaningful than a simple slip of the tongue, but he shrugs it off.

Initiative 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11

Amenephus init (no +2 bonus as not within 10 squares of Dorvin) 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 5 = 22

Thanks to Quillan, you get a moment's warning before the ground beneath you explodes with ravenous, white predators.

A glacial drake, demented with hunger erupts from the snowdrift sending blasts of chilling air ripping through the company before diving into the snow and vanishing from sight once more. Utterly unprepared for the attack, two of the bodyguards sustain bloodying wounds before anyone can do anything sensible to help.

Stealth 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (16) + 14 = 30. Perception 30 to see where it is (minor action)

Riftshard Dive (Ref); close burst three and the drake may burrow its speed as a free action. Emerging at L10/11 and M10/11 (large creature).
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 - v B2
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (11) + 11 = 22 - v Quillan
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 - v Nayce
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20 - v B3
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (8) + 11 = 19 - v Dorvin
1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 - v Rusty

Hits everyone. 4d8 + 5 ⇒ (4, 3, 1, 7) + 5 = 20. hp damage to B2, B3, Quillan, Nayce, Dorvin and Rusty

The situation does not improve as what you first took for particularly rough patches of snow prove to be very much alive. Writhing swarms of flesh seeking larva break cover and head to towards the only meal they've seen in weeks, leaching the heat from your bodies as they do so. The third bodyguard screams as he feels heat draining away from him and the larva start to devour him where he stands.

Rimeworm larva are a swarm. They have an aura 1. They get a melee basic attack against any creature starting its turn in the aura. Any creature entering the aura or starting its turn there gains vulnerable 5 cold (se)

L1 v Isari (AC) - 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 - Miss

L2 v B3 (AC) - 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (20) + 13 = 33 - Crit on hapless B3

From the snowdrifts, pellets of frozen spittle fly towards Nayce, hoping to distract the half-elf. Hunger makes it misjudge the attack.

Nayce?

Male Half-elf Assassin 14 / Obsidian Stalker

Nayce eyes the Rimeworm and determines it shall be slain in short order.

1 shroud on the rimeworm.

At his invocation, shadowy tendrils begin to tear at the rimeworm.

Nightmare Shades on the Rimeworm. 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 vs Will. 2d8 + 11 ⇒ (3, 4) + 11 = 18 psychic damage on a hit and it grants combat advantage to me until the end of my next turn and until the end of my next turn, I gain a power bonus to damage rolls against the target equal to my Charisma modifier.

Move to M11 (if I can).

"Arghh, we're being eaten alive!"

Free : Have all damage dealt by my flaming greatsword be fire damage.

Standard : Reaping Strike on L2

Attack: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (4) + 15 = 19

If my attack hits, Nayce can also have an additional 3 points of healing

"Come on, lads! Let's show these wee bas'urds what we're made of!" Dorvin yells as he brings his axe to bear.

Extreme apologies for the delay in moving you on. Classes and so forth. Am now properly back and able to concentrate on making your lives unpleasant :)

Nayce turns his assassin's eye on the spittle thrower and hurls nightmare tendrils at the beast.

Small jaws gnaw at Rusty as the dragonborn tries to slash his way free of the massed larvae. Distracted by his prancing, the larvae miss, but pain only allows Rusty to make a minimal impact on the swarm.
free attack from L2 at start of turn
Attack 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (2) + 13 = 15 - miss

Stuck in a similar position, Isari also suffers more biting attacks as the larvae sink vicious teeth into him. He retaliates in kind, slicing his blade deftly into them. The swarm parts, but can't avoid the blow.

Male Dwarf Warlord 10

You're flanking with me Rusty, so you need to add +2 to your attack roll.

It's not immediately obvious, as it isn't on the map yet, due to my posting late.

Male Dwarf Avenger 9

"I know ye're hungry beasts, but ye will not find yer meal here. Let me convince ye to leave," says Quillan in calm tones.

Quillan makes a silent prayer to his deity as he closes in on the beast. As he does so, his axe head begins to sparkle and crack with electricity before he attempts to cleave the worm with a mighty overhead swing.

Minor Action: Oath of Enmity on Rimeworm.
Move Action: Jump off wagon and move to N8.
Standard Action: Sparking Wounds vs. Rimeworm w/ OoE.

  • 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (12) + 13 = 25 vs. AC
  • 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27 vs. AC
  • 1d12 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 damage and at the end of the Rimeworm's next turn, each enemy adjacent to it takes 5 fire/lightning damage. If no enemies are adjacent, the Rimeworm takes the damage.

  • Nayce may use my Divine Guidance to reroll his next attack against the Rimeworm if it comes out as too low.

  • Quillan's challenge brings the Rimeworm around to face him, the creature roaring defiance as lightning sparks around it, driving deep gouges into its flesh.

The bodyguards, realising that they have no chance in this company, attempt to flee. B1 makes it to the gates and starts frantically trying to close them.

B2 heads towards the gates and runs straight into the glacial drake which bites him from below the ground before erupting in a flurry or gore and ice. Barely upright, the man staggers past, dodging clear of the larvae.
    Attack 1d20 + 20 ⇒ (17) + 20 = 37
    Damage 3d6 + 5 ⇒ (3, 1, 1) + 5 = 10.

B3 screams as the larvae attack again and subsides in a bloody heap.
    Attack 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
    Damage 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11

The newly appeared drake has a certain feral intelligence and breathes hard, kicking up the snow into a swirling, blinding zone.

Breath of Frostknives (Ref) (close blast 4). Creates zone of cold which blocks LOS until end next turn. Enemies who end their turn in the zone take 1d8 damage. Any ongoing fire damage ends immediately in the zone.
    1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 - Nayce
    1d20 + 11 ⇒ (15) + 11 = 26 - Rusty

    1d20 + 11 ⇒ (14) + 11 = 25 - B3
    Damage 3d8 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4, 6) + 5 = 18
18hp damage to Nayce, Rusty and Dorvin. B3 dead to hp loss.

The larvae writhe joyfully as fresh meat lands among them and converge on the body of the former bodyguard, ignoring the living in favour of feasting.

No attacks this turn. L1 moves past Isari, granting him an OA.

The rimeworm cannot ignore Quillan, and lunges at the dwarf, half crazed with the need to join its young in their feasting.
    Attack 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35

IMPORTANT STUFF FOR YOU ALL TO KNOW ABOUT DORVIN

    Bravura Presence
When an ally who can see you spends an action point to take an extra action and uses the action to make an attack, the ally can choose to take advantage of this feature before the attack roll. If the ally chooses to do so and the attack hits, the ally can either make a basic attack or take a move action after the attack as a free action. If the attack misses, the ally grants combat advantage to all enemies until the end of his or her next turn..

Thanks for the heal, much needed!

Nayce eyes the rimeworm and hexes it so that his attack will have greater effect. He steps through the shadows and reappears beside the rimeworm, plunging his sword into the beast as shadows emenate from it, confounding the vile creature. Then Nayce conjures shadows around his area, obscuring his position.

2 more shrouds on the rimeworm thanks to the Killer's Insight feat for a total of 3. Shadow Step to O9.

Army of the Night power on the rimeworm, using all 3 shrouds. 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (18) + 16 = 34 vs Will (includes combat advantage). On a hit, 1d8 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18 damage plus 3d6 ⇒ (2, 6, 6) = 14 for the shrouds. On a hit, until the end of your next turn, the target makes a melee basic attack as an opportunity action against any enemy that ends its turn adjacent to the target with a +5 power bonus to attack rolls.

Sheltering Dark on my position. The burst creates a zone (close burst 2) that lasts until the end of your next turn. You have concealment while you are within the zone. When you leave the zone, you become invisible until the end of your turn. (You don't need to track the zone on the map if you don't want, since it only impacts me. Basically I just have concealment at this point.)

Nayce leaps through time and space and bloodies the Rimeworm. Writhing away from the multiple shadows surrounding it, the creature screams in agony as the blows strike home.

The larvae writhe at Dorvin's feet as they feast on the fallen bodyguard, but are too distracted to find an opening in his armour.
