@DM So do you just want us all to make a series of rolls to tell us what we find at the museum or something? Im simply looking for something of value that would be worth 5-10 times more than the amount of flash cash we put together. I don't have Appraise but I'll pay to take a tour or something, perhaps use Diplomacy of the guide or something if I need to.

How to handle this. If a Perception check would come into play, I'll roll for all of you to save time. Same for Initiative if a combat comes into play. For any other skills, tell me when you're using what. Or you can give me a list of skills to roll for you if you plan on not being able to post a lot.

That's actually a pretty good plan Ransaq, but are there any other suggestions?

As you reach the city's Artifact Museum, you see a massive stone structure. Five stories tall and divided into three wings: West, Central, and East. Together they measure between three and four hundered feet across. Each wing is 125ft deep. An extension out from the center of the Western Wing serves as an admission chamber. That would be the most obvious entrance. However, there are also several emergency exits. They have no handles on the outside, but a clever person could possibly use them as entrances.

How do you want to handle maps? I'm a fan of just putting maps on roll20.net to be honest. Then, you guys can move your pieces as you want. Are there any other suggestions on that front?

I've seen people use Roll20, but it's often inconvenient for players (myself included). The method I've seen most successful is using Google Drive and allowing global editing so players can move their tokens.


Let's head into discussion to continue this. I may need some help in getting maps up that way. I've played using Google Drive, but have never GMed with it.


I think there may have been a miscommunication on my part. You guys are outside the museum. You can go through the main entrance in admissions or try to get in through a side door.

The map thing was just to prepare for later.

Adalric keeps a separation from the others as they approach the museum entrance. As they enter (by whatever method chosen), he continues walking for a block or so. After a few minutes of window shopping, he enters the museum alone via the main entrance. He'll then proceed to wander around by himself until he's seen everything - ignoring the others if they notice him.

Here are any relevant skill mods. I'll take 20 whenever possible but will make every attempt to be discreet and unobtrusive.

@DM I'm just looking for something that I think would fetch 5,000-10,000gp on the black market. Feel free to make my rolls for me, also taking 10 or 20 whenever possible. I've no problem with charming everyone that works there to avoid suspicion if i need to flat out ask what somethings worth. Once I find an appropriate item I'll exit the museum.

Mary dusts himself off and takes a moment to spit-shine his jewelry, trying to class up a bit before entering the museum.

"We should keep our eyes peeled for pieces that seem to be under weak security, or are being displayed near side doors and whatnot'. I'd wager those are prime targets.."

Marian plans to let Saq (or whoever) scope out the shiny bit, while he looks out for potentially shady characters, and shmoozes up the museum staff.


Andy will drift way and hang well back from the group.

The museum is big enough to hold the large crowd that has gathered here the day before the festival begins. The ceilings are 15ft high here as opposed to the 10ft in the main museum. You guess the extra height is to incorporate massive paintings of various heroes that helped "acquire" the pieces within the building. Strangely though, you notice the security isn't all that visible. In your entire tour, you only notice one man in leather armor watching the crowds.

Dimitrious and Ransaq: You spend the five gold apiece to take the tour, paying extra attention to the more valuable pieces in particularly open areas.

In the center of a room dedicated to a defunct cult, you see a mask that could be worth in the range you are looking for.

Captain Andoran: By watching the crowd, you see a woman with white hair and blue eyes in the tour, acting strangely. She is looking at the exhibits, but her eyes shift as if she is examining the surroundings. She catches your staring eye out of the corner of hers and tries to disappear into the crowd. If you follow her, you manage to keep her in your sights, even when the alarm begins to sound.

Marian: Sense Motive: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
You also notice the woman scoping the museum security. However, you lose track of her in the crowd and only keep in pursuit by watching for Andy.

Azrin: You successfully blend in with the crowds and use people to hide your way to the side door. However, just before opening, you notice the door is marked the seal of the museum. When you open it, an alarm sounds throughout the museum.

Adalric: You arrive at the museum late and notice an alarm going off. Guards are gathering people just outside the museum and performing searches on random guests. Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

Azrin doesnt get a chance to rethink his decision about opening the door once he sees the seal? This is my first pbp, but it seems like in such a game you'd get a chance to rethink something if new info's gained befor the act, but after you posted it. It seemed like he made that decision assuming it was a public exit before he got to the door.

Ransaq nods at Dimitrious, "Aye.", and walks over to the mask, reading any information they have on it. If no info is available I'll simply ask an employee what the mask is, noting the name of it.

Hearing the alarm, Adalric will refrain from entering the museum and inconspicuously watch the entrance from across the street until the commotion dies down.


Y'know. I was going over it in my head, debating whether or not to wait on a response for that. He didn't notice anything strange about the door other than a logo on it. If I hadn't mentioned that, he would've just walked through it. It's my first time DMing a PBP game, so I have some ironing out to do in my style.

The mask is a work of art depicting bird god, Garuda of Sky. It's worth approximately 8,500gp, you think.

Captain Andoran: You continue to follow the woman through the museum. She is crisscrossing her path, trying to lose you, but her efforts are unsuccessful. She eventually heads back to the admission lobby and tries to lose you outside.

Marian: You catch sight of the woman you and the captain are following again. You also notice she is finally beginning to head to the entrance where the large crowd is.

Ransaq: You notice the Captain's strange behavior, walking around the museum in circles. Finally, you figure out that he's watching an odd looking woman roam around the building. When the alarm sounds, she ends up going towards the main entrance.

Dimitrious: You don't notice anything unusual.

Ransaq works his way within 40 feet of the woman and manifests compelling voice (psionic suggestion) while hollering at her, "Hey miss, wait up a second."

I misspoke before, the save for this power is actually Will 17. I'll also attempt to manifest this without a display (concentration DC 17) Concentration: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (4) + 10 = 14

EDIT* I forgot I can suppress the display of any power I manifest by expending my psionic focus(It counts as 15 on the die which is automatically a success). This is what I would've liked to done if you will let me retract that roll, since its automatic and unlimited. If not, then the power simply emits a low pitched hum that can be heard within 15ft. Let me know either way cuz I'll have to use a move action at some point to refocus if I used it. The only difference is that it won't emit the hum and I'm trying not to cause a scene.

I'm wondering if she's from a competing group who's also caught wind of the heist. Perhapse she's got some useful info even if she isn't a culprit.

I put up Initiative for a chase scene. If I'm convinced of an inevitable fight, I'll put up a battle map. I figured out how I'm going to do that.

If you've all ready given a course of action, you can change it. If you don't change, you can keep any die rolls you made. Ransaq you can do your psionic focus thing.

She turns around, caught off guard by the concern and Ransaq's psionic power. However, if nothing is presented to her as something she lost, she'll book it full out. Either way, the rest of the party has been able to catch up to the woman now.


Andy smiles and reaches out/moves closer to offer the woman the 'something' that she's dropped.

If she presses to leave after I've charmed her I'll let her go, perhaps the others will be able to tail her. If she doesn't realize I'm with the people chasing her and she allows me to "help", I'll see if I can get anything playing double agent.

I manifested Suggestion at the start, but then Charm. Did my Charm work? If it didn't work and I know, I'll try again. If I need to try again I'll manifest without a display, concentration DC 16 Concentration: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12. If my original Charm did succeed I'll instead fest Conceal Thoughts, again with no display, concentration DC 15 Concentration: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (13) + 10 = 23.

Ransaq attempts to manifest a power without notice, then says to her "I noticed you being eyed inside. I cant help but wonder why they would harass you. Did you get yourself into some trouble or something?"

EDIT* Apparently, assuming a Charm is in effect, if she would not typically give a friend the answers to these questions then she gets an opposed Cha check? Cha: 1d20 ⇒ 14. My sense motive is pretty bad as well so hopefully this works.
