Lady Koralyn Nightstar |

Thanks for the info Dark Sun. Now that you state it I do recall that. And it will change what I do.
Arcana: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
Seeing that most of the melee combatants are dealt with Koralyn calls out a warning about the spell the priestess cast. That is a spirit guardians spell. Fiendish spirits will attack all who approach her. She then moves forward to be close enough to cast Hideous Laughter on the priestess. Wisdom save DC 14 or be effected.

Kierdan |

Hey everyone, sorry to post so late, but work ran a little long. I also had to look up a few rules about spellcasting, drawing weapons and attacks of opportunity.
Religion: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Desecrators! Kierdan shouts as he draws his mace. So angered is he at the site of some evil priestess making a mockery of a good village temple that he loses his focus and fails to connect.
Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6

DM Under a Dark Sun |

Dragomir swings around the pillar, heaving his greatsword around in a whistling arc that cleaves through one of the dirty-robed acolytes, spattering blood across the temple walls. A second monk manages to throw himself clear of the deadly blade, his agility betraying a certain degree of martial training.
The monk's reflexes are no match for Rolen's arrow, however, which sinks deep into the man's left arm, pinning his bicep to his ribs. Before the monk can utter a cry of pain, he and the fellow next to him fall unconscious to the ground, overcome by Alistair's sleep spell.
Incensed, Kierdan lashes out at the cultist who attacked him, but fails to connect with his mace.
In the same instant, Koralyn casts a spell upon the priestess, attempting to incapacitate her. But a wild light shines in the woman's eyes as she brushes aside the spell and rushes forward, brandishing a glowing staff.
As she approaches, the ghostly serpents surrounding her lash out at Eldramin, Alistair and Dragomir. The warlock is able to fend off the magic somewhat, but the wizard and warrior do not fare as well. Blackened wounds appear on their skin wherever the spirit snakes strike. Eldramin takes 8 necrotic damage, Alistair and Dragomir each take 16 points of damage.I believe that puts Alistair unconscious.
The priestess follows up by bringing her unholy staff down on Dragomir's head, the blow rattling his brains. Another 13 damage to Dragomir, reduced to 10 by his Armor Mastery feat.
The remaining monk slashes at Kierdan with his glowing sickle, but the sun-priest's anger serves him well, and he batters the blows away with his shield.
~~~~~0~0~0~~~~~
You're up! Eldramin can act twice, since he delayed.
Priestess Wisdom save vs. hideous laughter: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20
Eldramin Wisdom save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Alistair Wisdom save: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Dragomir Wisdom save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8
Spirit guardians necrotic damage: 3d8 ⇒ (4, 5, 7) = 16
Priestess shillelagh plus divine eminence vs. Dragomir: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 161d10 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Monk: 2 sickle attacks vs. Kierdan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 121d8 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 61d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d8 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Dragomir Vuk |
Shit!, Dragomir screams as the spirit guardians strike, and then is left reeling as the quarterstaff lands a vicious blow. He attacks the priestess, seeking to end her.
Power Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 for 2d6 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 + 4 = 13.
Re-roll the 1 1d6 ⇒ 2
Thats 14pts of damage. Burn the witch! :D. Hoping this disrupts her spell otherwise I am screwed
He uses his bonus action for his 2nd Wind 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
Rolen Philandril |
Round 2, Readied Action, Advantage? From Hide, Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Rolen attacks the Priestess engaged with Dragomir.
LB Att: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
LB Adv Att?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
LB Dam: 1d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (7) + 4 + (5, 3) = 19
Rolen will then use his cunning action to hide again after sniping at the enemy.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Eldramin Tarkanan |
last round
As the cultists drop into slumber, Eldramin moves back (just NW of Koralyn's current map position) and summons forth a spectral blade to aid him.
Melee spell atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12 vs boss lady
force: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
this round
Eldramin moves further away and continues his magical onslaught. (just W of Rolen's current map position)
Melee spell atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (15) + 6 = 21
force: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
range spell atk: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
force: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 and push back 10ft on hit
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
Please move me up from my move last turn. My thought was to move only far enough to be within the 30' range of that spell.
Concerned for friends Koralyn tries her spell again. Hideous Laughter on the priestess. Wisdom save DC 14 or be effected.
Kierdan |
Sorry for the late post. My internet (Comcast) was down when I returned home from work.
Recovering from his wild swing, Kierdon refocuses and attacks the cultist again.
Attack with Mace: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Mace Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Dragomir under assault by ghostly snakes and the evil princess. He tries to send forth the blessings of Pelor to his friend as he holds off the cultist that cut him.
Cast Healing Word on Dragomir. I just realized that this spell has a casting time of "1 bonus action" and only requires a verbal component. Healing includes +3 bonus from "Disciple of Life" domain ability.
Healing Word: 1d4 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 4 + 3 = 9
DM Under a Dark Sun |
Blood streaming into his eyes, Dragomir glares at the priestess and lashes out with a murderous blow. The priestess manages to get her staff in the way, blunting the force, but the blade still lands with a wet thud, butchering her left arm. She screams, but the sound is cut off abruptly as Rolen's arrow buries itself in her throat, the dark fletching quivering against her chin. She falls dead as the ghostly serpents fade into tatters.
Seeing her fall, Eldramin and Koralyn redirect their spells toward the remaining monk, who is struck by the warlock's spiritual weapon but shakes off Koralyn's enchantment.
Kierdan calls down Pelor's blessing on Dragomir, then cracks the monk over the head with his mace. The cultist spits out a bloody piece of tongue before lashing out with his sickle, but his blows prove no more accurate than before.
You hear the howling of hungry wolves echoing from the courtyard.
You're up!
Monk Wisdom save vs. hideous laughter: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Monk: 2 sickle attacks vs. Kierdan: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 71d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 41d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 61d8 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
Would prefer not to use that spell on a monk. The goal was to make the priestess loose concentration and thus loose the spell. Can I at least change that casting to Magic Missile? Likely would have just attacked after the priestess went down as Koralyn was hoping not to kill.
Rolen Philandril |
Round 3, Advantage? From Hide, Sneak Att, Cunning Action
Rolen attacks the cultist engaged with Dragomir.
LB Att: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (19) + 6 = 25
LB Adv Att?: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
LB Dam: 1d8 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (2, 5) = 17
Rolen will then use his cunning action to hide again after sniping at the enemy.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
We'll just say you stopped the casting and saved the spell slot. My intent is not to penalize you or waste an action, but I don't want to get bogged down retconning actions, or having folks wait to see the effect of others' actions. One round per 24 hours is my goal when in combat.
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
Sure. Thanks. That spell the priestess had up was wicked and I was trying to end it. But you and your nat 20 will saves had other ideas. :) Can I assume the doors to outside are currently closed? If not disregard this as Koralyn moves to close the doors.
Wanting to end this fight Koralyn moves forward drawing her sword and wings at the monk.
Longsword: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 171d8 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6 Enough. She says. You are beaten already. Surrender.
Kierdan |
Kierdan, shield and mace ready, waits to see the cultist's response to Koralyn before he presses his attack.
I'd like to delay and see what the mondk does, if he is knocked out or surrenders, Kierdan will start to move to Alistair to help him out. If the monk keeps fighting, I will attack him with my mace.
DM Under a Dark Sun |
Rolen's aim again proves deadly, as the monk menacing Kierdan falls with an arrow sprouting from his shoulder blades.
With no other foes still standing -- two are asleep, one of those wounded -- Kierdan turns his attention to Alistair, whose pulse is weak and uneven.
Roused by the howling of the wolves, Koralyn and Eldramin rush to the south entrance, each of them heaving shut one of the stout oak doors. Eldramin drops the bar into the brackets just in time, as the wolves slaver and scratch at the wood from the other side.
For a moment, at least, you can breathe deeply and take stock of your next move.
The two monks who still live will remain asleep for several more rounds. Alistair is 1-1 on death saves, I believe. Other than the wolves outside, you hear no other indication of enemies nearby.
Each of you receives 400 XP for the encounter.
A quick search of the monks turns up nothing of value, other than their sickles. The priestess, however, had a bone scroll case tucked into her belt -- inside is a priestly scroll of detect magic. Around her neck is thin gold necklace, holding a small gold amulet carved into the shape of a serpent with tiny chips of ruby for eyes. It looks like it might fetch as much as 200 gp, based on the craftmanship. As you search the monks, you see that several had a similar serpent figure tattooed on their chests.
Kierdan |
While Koralyn and Eldramin rush to secure the doors, Kierdan moves to assist Alistair.
Seeing Alistair's serious condition, Kierdan rushes to his side and begins to intently pray over his wounded form. The priest calls upon Pelor to shine his merciful, healing light on the magic user.
cast cure wounds using a second level spell slot and adding +3 for Disciple of Light
Cure Wounds: 2d8 + 4 + 3 ⇒ (6, 3) + 4 + 3 = 16
Dragomir Vuk |
Dragomir closes the door the priests or cultists entered from so as to avoid other surprises.
That was a tough one... when will the wizard recover? We need to move quickly before there are reinforcements if we are to take the initiative, he rasps, his own wounds from the mystical serpents paining him.
Rolen Philandril |
Alister: You have nothing written down for Gear - do you have any healing potions on you?
Rolen comes out from hiding and approaches the fallen enemies and begins to rifle their pockets.
Does anyone have any healing we can pour down his gullet? We should probably tie these two up, or do away with them.
He then stands and makes his way to the door from which the monks arrived, and places his ear to it.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
For those of you who landed blows that took these NPCs out you need to choose if you killed them or not. In the one home game I played with 5e we had to state that we were not killing the enemy when it happened or it was assumed to be killing blows.
After securing the door to the best of her ability Koralyn moves to tie up the sleeping monks. We could try to question these two, but I expect if they are mind controlled or whatever it is that got them, they will not be cooperative .
Rolen Philandril |
That is not applicable to my attacks. You cannot do non-lethal damage with ranged attacks, and a few of mine were the killing blow. Plus, I am an assassin, and I shoot to kill. ;-)
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
As a merc I don't pull blows either without good reason
Was the mayor explaining that these people are likely not acting of their own free will and to try to spare them if possible not good reason? Please let me know if you killed them or not and I will react in character.
Dragomir Vuk |
I killed one and wounded another and yep, they be dead - I'm not a sociopath just a pragmatist. Does he look like he enjoyed experience? No... he doesn't look much more than pained at the moment
Rolen Philandril |
Rolen's countance and demeanor is rather matter of fact about the scenario. Sort of like, this is what I do, unless you are on my side.
Alistair Orm |
Alistair awakes to the talk of keeping people alive or killing them.
"If it all the same to you, I would like to be kept alive, thank you. And thank you Kierdan for your assistance. I feel almost like normal!"
If anyone else is injured, Alistair will use his "Healer" feat on them to fix them up!
Also added equipment..not too sure why I did not have it on my profile...
Kierdan |
When Alistair opens his eyes, Kierdan says, It is good to see you again my friend.
He smiles and pats Alistair on the shoulder. Now, if you will excuse me, I must attend to the locals and see if any can be saved.
At that, Kierdan moves quickly from priestess to each of the three unconscious monks, touching each individual's forehead and saying a brief prayer before moving on to the next.
Kierdan moves from priestess to each of the monks, casting the cantrip "Spare the Dying" on as many cultists as possible.
Kierdan |
Listen, friends, I see we almost all hurt. How much time do you think we have? If I can have ten minutes to spend in meditation and prayer, I will implore the Sun Father to shine his healing radiance on us all. But I will need ten minutes and I will need you all to come closer.
If it looks like Kierdan can have 10 minutes to pray and the party agrees, He will cast "Prayer of Healing" on the group. Up to six people, within 30' of Kierdan will receive the following healing after the 10 minute casting time is complete:
prayer of Healing: 2d8 + 4 + 4 ⇒ (5, 3) + 4 + 4 = 16
DM Under a Dark Sun |
With Rolen's arrow in her throat, the priestess is beyond saving, as is the man Dragomir split with his greatsword. But a swift prayer is enough to stabilize the two other monks, although neither is likely to regain consciousness soon.
Once all of the monks are restrained, you have a chance to look around. The sanctuary remains quiet -- the wolves have gone silent, or left -- and only the door to the west is open. You can see chairs and a long table, set with simple bowls and cups, and you can faintly smell smoke from a coal fire, baking bread and other food.
Kierdan |
Dark Sun, do I get ten minutes to get the Prayer of Healing off? If I do, everyone in the party who is hurt will get 16 hp back.
Lady Koralyn Nightstar |
I'd rather not wait 10 minutes here until we know more. I do have a 1 hour buff running that I do not want to loose. If we wait maybe we could look around/search during that 10 minutes?
As the combat concludes Koralyn moves to secure the wounded enemies and only then realizes some are dead. Turning on Dragomir she accuses You killed them! There was no need! They are likely only farmers being used as tools of some true enemy. Why? The mayor clearly stated that these poor people are controlled and asked we spare them if we can. You have taken lives when it was not necessary, buying us only the enmity of the mayor and other good people of this town. Are you some kind of monster?!? Her eyes flash in anger and her hand moves to her sword.
Rolen Philandril |
Can we argue about the death of those attacking us another time? This door leads into a dining hall and more than likely a kitchen. Should we continue our exploration through the door the enemy came, or is a better choice behind the altar to the innards of the temple?
Rolen walks to the door behind the altar and listens intently and he slowly turns the handle to see if it is locked.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
