Do we have a name, yet? I thought BTVK might work, but if you say it as a word fast...
bt-vk. nah...

GM Goblin King |
Efesti all the way.
Anyways can I take Pihrana Strike? It's like power attack but for light weapons only. Looks like fun.
Rolling for Hit points: 1d8
Sure. You qualify. Nice roll, too.
I usually roll crap. 1d8 ⇒ 2 See?

Velag Wordeater |

Right, so, picked up 2-weapon as my feat, learned ear-splitting scream and disrupt undead, and took the standard action to load my variable teamwork feat slot with Precise Strike (yay for solo tactics!).
Now I just need to teach badbait to stand next to monsters for me. :)
Learned some social skills, the rest of the knowledge skills that are class, and of course, increased perception and stealth.
Other than the coin, I should be good for L3.
OH, wait, forgot to lose my buckler. Fixing that now.

GM Goblin King |
d6=4, d8=5, d10=6, or you can roll, if you feel lucky. If you took "average" at last level, you should have gotten 6.

GM Goblin King |
* succubus not human...
Klepy ~ you forgot +1 size bonus to hit, so yes +10Edit: Sorry if that was bad form. But I've been enjoying reading of the heroic goblins. :)
I forgot, too. MY bad!
I really like the humorous aspect. So many campaigns are like: "Wouldst thou care to dine with the queen, m'lord? T'would advance thine holdings in Hogsfordipswitchworchestertrentonstratford-uponavonshire."
Nothing wrong with that, but these guys are SO not that...

GM Goblin King |
Treasure!
One of the best things in the game, if not THE best. How do goblins get level-appropriate treasure? Not living in cities, and not being particularly magical, goblins with PC levels of treasure would be unheard of in an internally-consistent human-centric game world.
My thoughts are that being under-looted is unfair to players, but we're not in Abasalom. Goblin economies aren't like human ones.
It may take a few levels before you can actually trade for magic items, but it has to happen eventually. I'm not the sort of GM who would keep a character from getting what he really wants. Be patient, goblins, and trust that your WBL will be right in time.
It's a lot of work to keep track of wealth, and I don't want to do it. If you're way behind in what you should have treasure-wise, let me know in this thread, and I'll work to rectify the situation in a fair (and hopefully fun) way.

Velag Wordeater |

And we adopted a Licktoad goblin....
"Hey! You takeses one of us tribe! Give back, or me judge you, nasty-nasty!"
I assume that we wouldn't come upon coin very often, but realistically, if we get powerful enough, we can probably find a way to trade for ourselves (eliminating the middle man) -- maybe a hat of disguise or just finding or intimidating a merchant (or dealing with the Orcs over in the Hold, I can't imagine they'd be above trading with goblins) -- but that's down the road, as you say.
At the same time, we're greedy goblin types, and not all treasure is stuff we eat -- I'm fine with abstracting away what we've actually got of value (until such time as we have use for it), so long as we're cool with Bucko and Velag "counting" the coin (as in the IC thread) -- so we always appear to be giving a generous amount to the tribe while keeping the lion's share for ourselves -- and therefore gaining benefit from our trickery, we don't really need to see numbers until it's happy-trade-time later.
I would say we're a little behind the curve for level 3, but I don't tend to complain about these things, and really, the difference between a 305gp masterwork shortsword and a 2305gp +1 is pretty trivial. (
In fact, that's one of my problems with the 3.x systems, but that's not important right now).
The only reason I was focusing on the coin now was the earlier ability to trade monies for things.

Bucko Rackingclaw |

Treasure!
Then tracking treasure......
Not sure how tracking treasure will work, I have been tracking what I take/use but not the party loot (do we have party loot?)
The discussion of party monies would make certain we spent all the money to throw a party in true goblin style.
If we bury a chest of coins, would we ever be able to find it?
I think the problem is "tracking" treasure!
as seen in the exchange...shiny me take....hey get back here...

GM Goblin King |
One thing I did many years ago in a short game was "abstract loot." It was assumed that treasure was incidental to encounters, and when you leveled, you had X amount to work with and a place to buy/trade, particularly if you were high level and knew where to teleport to and who to see. Some groups like to RP the haggling and such, but I've always preferred the fighting part to describing how my character is dressed.
Granted, it takes away from the story part of gaining treasure, but everyone got what they really wanted, and it made a lot less work for me. Our DM even adopted it for our regular game, and we were ok with it. Other groups might not like that at all.
We're in the goblins' world, though, and they're naughty by nature. It goes against the grain to think they'd NOT scrap over the smallest treasure and argue the silliest points. Perhaps if they were literate and knew something about the world, they'd know how competent they really are, but it's more fun for me to watch them act like little terrors.
They've got real personalities now, and I don't think magic items will change their outlook very much. I mean, how many small-sized magical earthbreakers are out there? Does Tark care about that? I think he's just happy to bash things, as long as he's got a way to do it.
When they need magic items to defeat certain monsters, they'll find them, one way or another. It's not fair if they don't. They just might not be aware of it, or at least not have a sense of the market values as printed in the books. If it works, it works. If not, they'll find another way.
I imagine that Bucko and Velag can intuit what's needed to kill a vampire by talking to other creatures and discovering things by accident, rather than poring over tomes. Writtins iz bad!
Any thoughts you may have on the topic are appreciated.

Velag Wordeater |

Two solutions to the magic weapon thing that I've seen are:
- allowing someone with craft (weapon) to re-hilt a weapon, turning a medium-sized dirk into a small shortsword, or a medium-waraxe into a small greataxe, etc.
- having some magic items be powered by things anchored to them (rings or wraps on the hilt, haft, etc.) -- so that that object could be transfered from the nasty elfie's curve blade and put on Tark's breaker to smash things.
And you're right -- they would understand magic is power, but they'll care much more about what things do (and, in the case of Velag and Bucko, who can see auras, the strength of them) than what something's actually worth. (For instance I can't imagine any goblin [who can't detect magic, anyway] would trade a +1 flaming weapon for a +2 shocking one -- fire is good and we're goblins.)
I suppose, too, with the Licktoads being famous craftsgoblins, we could probably come up with masterwork stuff and maybe even get the smiths to reforge stuff for us -- so we could turn medium-sized mithril armor into multiple suits of small, for instance.... I mean, we're probably used to it to some extent from the scavenger-nature of goblinhood. :)
"Me know all about crafties. Me eat dwarf once."

I think that goblin magic should include some wonderful things...
weapon blanches, cold iron, silver, adamantium
vermin repellent
troll styptic
smelling salts
beast scent
beast lure
blade guard
harpy musk

Excellent suggestions, both of you.
I remember some 3.X splat that had some rules for herbal stuff and alternate spell components, but I never got them. It would be awesome for Bucko to have some knowledge (healing? herbalist?) he can use for just this sort of thing. It follows that a witch would know a lot of folklore for making things to repel/attract various monsters, slow poisons, etc.
If you've got that sort of material, it would be fun to have him collecting plants and animal glands and such to make things that would give you some plusses now and then for some of your challenges. Imagine the acid resistance you could get from a properly-dried black dragon's bladder...
That would make for some fun RP. I wish I had the books, but I don't. If you guys want to incorporate some of that, please do.

Velag Wordeater |

Velag is updated to Inquisitor 4 (yay, level 2 spells and 2nd judgement per day) -- in so doing, I noted that the sheet that was posted for Inq 3 was off in a few places (skills, especially). Took the 5 hp since that's what I rolled last time anyway -- favoured class into HP as usual.
I took See Invisible and Flames of the Faithful as my spells.
Attribute boost went to Wis.

Velag Wordeater |

a) Since Velag has ranks in Heal (and it's Wis-based), I'll want to grab a healer's kit at the next possible opportunity -- are we going to see the other goblin camp before we face the baddies?
b) For that matter, can Bucko *make* such a thing from herbs, etc? (or can I, even)?
c) Also, I haven't been taking my off-hand attack when I move more than 5' (or take a different move action) -- I just wanted to confirm that's what we're supposed to be doing.

a) You'll get a chance to stock up on things pretty soon.
b) I would think so. He could make heal checks or something to find useful healing herbs. If you want to find it, there's stuff in the srd, I think. Maybe some ranks in herbalist would make that easier. Goblins, lacking the stuff "civilized" races have, would probably be good at that.
c) TWF lets you attack with 2 weapons, regardless. As long as you take your -2 on each, you can draw both as part of your move, and attack with both as your standard action. It's not a full attack, so you don't have to worry about moving more than 5'. I didn't notice, or I'd have told you.
Once you hit 8th level and have 2 BAB attacks, you get 2 at -2, then a 3rd at -5. With the Improved TWF feat, you'd get 4 attacks; 2 at -2, then 2 at -5 (or is it -7? I forgot).

GM Goblin King |
I just want to thank the players for making this game so fun. It's been a nice diversion for me during a difficult time, and the antics of the little green psychos have helped me a lot.
I see this as a comedy-driven action-oriented sorta thing, and for me it's uncharted water. There is an overarching plot of sorts, but it's way in the background. If we get to high level, it'll be the 10th season of Firefly; something we all deserve, if the world were just a slightly nicer place.
No, I don't like men in a sexual way (not that there's anything wrong with that!). That is all.

Velag Wordeater |

Glad you're enjoing yourself -- I'm enjoying it, too -- and, to be fair, I went from 7 PbPs to 1 over the last 2 weeks -- so I'm quite pleased that something's holding on.

GM Goblin King |
Well, then. The class is incredibly strong and versatile, and Velag is way above average. The only divine caster in a magic-weak party.

Shanosuke |

I like being awesome. Sorry if I am annoying you with my awesomeness. I really look forward to have a level 5 character for the first time. So far this is my favorite PBP and one of the most consistent I am apart of. I am grateful for such clever and fun companions and an awesome DM who doesn't mind my awesomeness :)

Kor - Orc Scrollkeeper |

I've also been greatly enjoying this campaign, as much for the DM'ing as well as the interaction with the other players. I think for a PBP, 4 players makes for the best group!
Especially after taking the glory-hungry, Order of the Cockatrice as a cavalier, I thought that Tark would certainly have met his demise by now. Thanks to a some very lucky rolling, Tark has actually made it to 4th level. Obviously since he has lived so long, I must not be playing him as brash and bold as he should be :)

Bucko Rackingclaw |

Certainly I am enjoying all the great antics.....
I think the plans have been executed to perfection.
Tark charge, Haaruuu, bash!
Klepy sneak, stab! Take shinies!
Velag judge, stab!
Bucko casts and kills!

GM Goblin King |
From GoG:
The Licktoads of Brinestump Marsh are excellent
swimmers who spend much of their free time
searching the marsh for little white toads that,
if swallowed or slobbered over, provoke
intense visions and dreams.
I think Toady is such a toad. Don't you?

GM Goblin King |
** spoiler omitted **
Tark:
Personally, I'd try to raise his AC, but that can wait. More strength = more HARUUUUU! LOL

Tark Bashflat |

I was torn on whether to raise AC or get a magic weapon. At this level we will start to encounter creatures with damage resistance, so I thought a magic weapon would be beneficial. Also, since I "have to" get the strength belt, the remaining amount only allows me to increase AC by +1. So I guess Tark is a believer of "the best defence, is a strong offence" :)
I'll just spend the extra money towards more charges on the wand. (50 charges.) That would leave only 110gp unspent.
The next feat Tark and Fangz will both be taking will be Toughness :)
I also just realized, that I have been forgetting to take the +1 bonus for attacking creatures on foot, while mounted. Hopefully with all these bonuses, missing should be a thing of the past.

GM Goblin King |
Tark:

Bucko Rackingclaw |

I think Bucko needs a picture book telling him how to make achemical stuff, then I will spend the ranks in the craft, alchemical to boost us up!
thunderstones
healer kit
troll styptic
weapon blanches
silver sheen
Also I really need this spell to keep Klepy out of the water.....
Returning Weapon
School conjuration (teleportation); Level bard 2, cleric 2, inquisitor 1, magus 1, ranger 1, sorcerer/wizard 2, witch 2
CASTINGCasting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S
EFFECTRange close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Target one weapon that can be thrown
Duration 1 minute/level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless, object); Spell Resistance yes (harmless, object)
DESCRIPTIONFor the duration of the spell, the target weapon acts as if it had the returning weapon special ability.
This spell can be used as the prerequisite for the returning weapon special ability.
Returning Weapon, Communal
Level bard 3, cleric 3, inquisitor 2, magus 2, ranger 2, sorcerer/wizard 3, witch 3
Target creatures touched
This spell functions like returning weapon, except you divide the duration in 1-minute intervals among the weapons touched.
And this one since he probably won't stay out of the water...
Air Bubble
School conjuration; Level cleric 1, druid 1, ranger 1, sorcerer/wizard 1, witch 1
CASTINGCasting Time 1 standard action
Components S, M/DF (a small bladder filled with air)
EFFECTRange touch
Target one creature or one object no larger than a Large two-handed weapon
Duration 1 minute/level
Saving Throw Will negates (harmless); Spell Resistance yes (harmless)
DESCRIPTIONAir bubble creates a small pocket of breathable air that surrounds the touched creature’s head or the touched object. The air bubble allows the creature touched to breathe underwater or in similar airless environments, or protects the object touched from water damage. A firearm within an air bubble can be loaded—assuming the black powder comes from a powder horn, a cartridge, or some other airtight protective device—and fired. When shooting such a firearm underwater, the shot still takes the standard –2 penalty on attack rolls for every 5 feet of water the bullet passes through, in addition to normal penalties due to range. If a firearm within the air bubble explodes, the explosion occurs normally.
Or I could learn from new lizzard friends....
...though those tails look tasty! :)

GM Goblin King |
All of this and more can be yours. Bring your characters up to 6000 gps' worth of stuff, which you can all get within a week courtesy of the Lizard King. Standard rules about trading in items for 1/2 value, etc.
You had 2 +1 swords and a +1 bow, as well as some gems and coins, and it all comes to 6000 apiece total value in gear and treasure, after you sell anything you don't want for 1/2.
Go nuts!
Bucko:

GM Goblin King |
Klepy's eyes only:
You're in a dark hallway, maybe underground, in a place you've never been before. You know your companions are somewhere behind you, and it's your duty to scout ahead. There are hallways and doors leading everywhere.
You know you've let your friends down in the past, but you won't this time. This is your element. Sneaksies and peeksies! If anyone can get through things not meant to be gotten through in this place, it's you.
You come upon a very ornate door, big and heavy, which looks as though it hasn't been opened in centuries. You're curious, looking at the ornate and difficult lock. You give it a tentative tug, and look up to see some kind of strange sign. Pain surges through you, then all goes black.

GM Goblin King |
Bucko's dream:
Bucko remembers this:
Your witch abilities allow you to navigate swamps with ease, but your companions and mounts struggle. To succeed at what's ahead, they'll need a way to move more easily.
You're sitting around a campfire with your companions in a place you've never seen before. It's in the Mushfens, from its appearance, but you don't feel comfortable. You see Velag tearing up some books, as he is wont to do. You get the feeling that if you could decipher the books, or maybe just one certain book, somehow, you'd learn what you need to know.
Velag tosses more pages in the fire. It feels like a mistake. You got those books as part of a search for information. Perhaps they hold some clues that you seek, or magic you could use.

GM Goblin King |
Velag's vivid vision:
You're standing on a high mountain, looking down on a cloud-misted world, where mountain peaks poke up out of the clouds like islands from the sea. Looking to the west, you see, off in the distance, between more mountains, an actual sea, with the sunset glistening off of it.
You're wearing fine magical armor and weapons, and you fairly surge with magical power you've never known as you look around you.
You hear a voice on the wind, dry and susurrant, yet familiar. “This is home,” it says, and you somehow feel sure it is, though you also feel that you've paid a heavy price to make it so.
You've never been on any mountain in your life.

GM Goblin King |
Tark's character is overpowered, and won't get a vision.
Tark:
You're in a battle the likes of which you've never experienced. You know that you and your chums are fighting for your lives against a huge beast that defies description. Thick fog surrounds you, and as you try to see where to swing your weapon, the very earth beneath you turns to soup, and you start to sink.
As you struggle to find some footing, you hear the screams of your fellow goblins, their bones being noisily crunched by gigantic jaws. Fearful, you prepare for any attack, then find yourself painfully crushed by a massive weight that lands on top of you. You can't breathe, and as you're about to pass out, a huge, snake-like tentacle wraps itself around you, and your wild swings seem to do it little harm.
The last thing you see (barely) is a huge maw filled with sharp teeth. You feel the painful crunch as it chews you up and swallows you. You hear a voice, strangely familiar, yet one you don't recognize right now; “...could have planned that better, he he...”

GM Goblin King |
I'd like some easy-to-navigate character info, when you have the time. Here's an example of what I mean. KenderKin's seen her before!
All the spoilers and stuff are a pain to type, but once you've got your format set up, it's easy to add loot and level up, etc., and we can look up info quickly.

GM Goblin King |
On closer examination, Tark notices that his new earthbreaker has a familiar mark on the finely-crafted pommel. It's a Licktoad weapon, though the lizardfolk can't say where it came from. They've had it for years, unable to trade it with any small folk or other goblins, who generally prefer dogslicers and horsechoppers.

Velag Wordeater |

- Mithral Shirt (replacing old armour)
- Replaced one shortsword with a +1
- Grabbed a scroll of Whispering Wind
I'll try to rework the character sheet to the new format soon.
